She contemplated her options, the risks and rewards weighing heavily on her. On one hand, showing her feelings might force Gojo to confront the reality of their relationship, potentially leading to a resolution or a shift in their dynamic. On the other hand, it could expose her to severe backlash or even endanger her life if Gojo perceived her actions as a threat.

The decision was fraught with danger, and Y/N found herself standing at a crossroads. She could continue with her manipulative strategies, hoping to navigate the treacherous waters of the jujutsu world while maintaining control. Or she could take a gamble, risking everything by confronting Gojo with her emotional turmoil and hoping for a breakthrough or at least some form of resolution.

The battle on the field continued, but her focus was now on the challenging decisions she faced. As she glanced back at the fighting scene, her mind was made up: whatever course of action she chose, it had to be calculated, decisive, and mindful of the unpredictable nature of those around her.

While I was able to use the holiday Monday at work to catch up on stuff I haven't been able to do in the last six weeks I've been doing my job alone, I spent way more of that time than I wanted to in trying to find a way around Excel breaking my labor saving spreadsheet by refusing to follow its own rules.

I help out my supervisor by turning the reports our phone system generates into a chart of call times she can analyze for coverage purposes. There are two hurdles the way it generates the reports creates. One of them is that the date, beginning time, and ending time, are all in the same cell of its line, and the other is that if there's no active call time in that span, it will more likely than not skip that span.

The easiest way I've come up with to find those times it skipped is to break up the time stamps into separate date, start, and stop cells, and then use conditional formatting to highlight the start times that are different from the end time of the line above. Originally I was using text to columns to do this, but then I decided I wanted to automate that. I set up a spreadsheet that would take the file name of the report and fetch the date and time cell from it, then an array of cells using the MID function to pull out the individual pieces of it.

It worked great! I could just tell it the file to look at and it got the data I needed. And then I'd go to add a line for a skipped time span and all of the formulas would break, because they were referenced based on the line number, and Excel ever so helpfully updates those references when your data moves. But it's okay because if you don't want the reference to be updated, there's a character for that. To keep the same line number, use B$2 instead of B2.

I worked out a fancy formula with INDIRECT, LEFT, and the new to me FORMULATEXT function to automatically assemble a new version of the formula with the crucial absolute reference for each row, since the absolute meant it wouldn't update by line if I just filled down and I was not going into over 300 cells to add one character by hand.

EXCEPT! Marking the reference as absolute only freezes the reference for pasting and directional filling! It turns out it totally ignores the $ if you're shifting and inserting! Excel broke my plans because it doesn't follow its own rules!

After like two hours of beating my head against it and reading a bunch of forum help threads where the answer was "just use INDIRECT" when I was already using INDIRECT, using COUNTIF to count only the cells above that had data in them seemed promising, but it kept giving reference errors as part of the INDIRECT, probably because the COUNTIF syntax needs you to tell it what to look for, and I think the quotation marks around the asterisk weren't playing nicely with the quotation marks of the INDIRECT even though I was using " for the latter and ' for the former. Finally I started looking into other COUNT_____ functions and it turns out that plan old COUNT does exactly what I was looking for. Where "count cells that have data" with COUNTIF needs you to specify cells containing "*", COUNT just does it. By some miracle, I found the right syntax to have the INDIRECT assemble the COUNT with a range from B1 to (current cell) in only one or two tries, and now I finally have a formula that doesn't care if I add lines which are empty in the column it's looking at.

Now I just need to automate adding the missing rows and filling in the zero values in the column I'm doing this all for, but that seems beyond what I can do with just Excel on its own. Seems like something that would be simple to execute in Python if I export a CSV, and if I could get anything to work in VBasic I could probably do a macro, but I'd prefer not to step it out of Excel and back in, and I don't think our workstations have Python, and if they don't have it, I can't add it...

Some of what they’re doing is also just capping indirect costs. Which, sure, sounds good, sounds efficient. But at universities, that’s tuition for students working on it, plus admin support. For my job, it’s the offices, a lot of admin, the purchase and then postage for shipping me a yubikey so we can have more secure access to a system, and contributing to stuff like ‘having health insurance’ and the other things that attract people to do the actual work.

And I really don’t think I can emphasize enough how important admin is. When we had a big two day on site meeting to hash out a bunch of stuff it was catered. The person setting up details with facilities asked about allergies, so I told her I was allergic to citrus. Y’all. You know how mornings you’ll typically get coffee, hot water, one or two kinds of juice? It was never orange juice. The bowls of whole fruit never included oranges. None of the lunch options had citrus. It wasn’t just I had safe options, it was everything was safe. That’s better than I get at a lot of family dinners.

And, in context of actually doing the work: having sufficient (excellent) admin staff meant that not only was I fully functional for the whole meeting but that I wasn’t sneezing operatically and interrupting everyone else’s ability to work.

My most recent vampire character, specifically created after thinking about the idea of Marceline from Adventure Time with a character design more closely resembling what she would look like as an ordinary human (using her genderbent counterpart, Marshall Lee, as a basis)

she doesn't actually have an official name yet, so I'm calling her Miss Willto as a working name, as a play on Mistletoe

The youngest of the vampires and turned fairly recently. She’s jovial, high-energy and a seductive powerhouse, overwhelming people with intense attraction and awing them with just how cool and strong she is; has a bit of a Harley Quinn vibe, though she’s a bit more low-key than similar characters, and takes a lot of inspiration from Adventure Time’s Marceline; cool, sweet beneath a veneer of badassery, and a lot more sensitive than you’d expect. Her powers of subtle dominance are the strongest of the trio, and she excels at the most indirect powers and the ‘classical vampire’ tricks, but her shapeshifting skills are mostly limited to aesthetic changes and she has more notable limits than the other two, and she is easily compelled by her passions and the traits of those she feeds upon. A brilliant artist and sensitive soul, conveying her love of word games and puzzles through a strange filter that makes everything she says into a riddle.

She has a strange way of speaking, often in dense poetic verse or very odd phrasings that are so dense in metaphor that simply working out what she says can be difficult; she often refers to people not by name but by poetic references (such as calling an ambitious but inept leader ‘the Jester Prince’), making of strange syntax.

People find it very hard to parse what she’s saying. She apparently has a filter in her speech, and everything she says comes out in a strange, almost incomprehensible layer of riddle, metaphor and puzzles even if she is actively trying to be as plainly spoken as possible. She finds this very funny and generally is okay with it, but if things are important enough she will try to drop it to speak as plainly as possible; this usually means she HAS to speak in as few words as possible or it becomes mangled.

She has yet to truly master the compulsions of vampire power, and using more than one physical power at a time particularly stresses her, driving her to extremes of ravenous hunger and violence, and she will easily succumb to mindless fury and revel in predatory violence, and she can easily lose herself to it without thinking about it.

She is very curvy and has a more thick build overall. She is Central African (or an equivalent human group for the setting), with dark brown skin and a heavy metal vibe, rather than punk or goth specifically. She wears her hair in very long, thick locs, and her eyes glow a faint red; she tends to have a faintly manic or high-energy demeanor at most times, almost irrespective of what she's actually feeling as her weird filter might also apply to her expressions and body language.

She has a gleeful, high-energy feel most of the time in the style of Harley Quinn or Adventure Time's Marceline in her earlier appearances; she’s often a gadfly, poking at people for fun and deliberately needling them to see what they do, and this often has the subtle air of a social scientist seeing how people react to particular stimuli.

She MIGHT actually be the largest of the group, towering above even Peist. If this isn’t the case, she is human-sized, of average or even fairly short height. (Her shapeshifting powers allow her to grow larger in any case.) Either way, she's actually the least powerful of the group or at least has less skill in raw power that would make her less functionally powerful than she might look.

Her shapeshifting powers, as noted, are somewhat more limited. She can make herself bigger and smaller, grow claws and enlarge her fangs, alter her proportions and make other alterations that don’t really give her a physical advantage; she is capable of transforming into beasts (most specifically large groups of ravens and cats, and she tends to retain feathers in her hair or long claws after changing) and can even assume monstrous hybrid forms, but she has difficulty maintaining these for long and often can only assume them during the hour of midnight.

She tends to favor more ‘mundane+’ tricks than the others, mostly using powerful weapons and tools instead of raw power, supplementing her tricks with great strength and speed. She can use her power to lift incredibly heavy or cumbersome weapons to use things no mortal could reliably use, combining weapon skill and expanding what she can actually do with them. Some of her favorite tricks are influenced by my favored Bloodborne weapons; she might use a massive hammer with a build-in furnace that produces a massive blast when striking, an enormous piledriver with a huge stake (that has a grappling hook application), and a firearm that is literally just multiple cannons attacked to each other in a minigun-like arrangement.

She is extremely strong and fast. She lacks the sheer durability of Celes, and is relatively fragile though vampires are naturally much more resilient, so this is somewhat relative. Additionally she has a hard time maintaining her strength or speed while exposed to direct sunlight, and can usually only be extremely fast OR extremely strong at a time, requiring a short moment to ‘shift gears’ as she puts it. Much of this is the result of her being inexperienced and having a very hard time dealing with the vampiric condition; tapping into the monster within easily overwhelms her and influences her mind, making it almost impossible to resist the urges that flow from this monstrosity, and trying to do multiple super-body tricks makes that balance really hard to maintain.

She may also have a particular form of super strength derived from giant’s-blood, growing to huge size as she shows more and more power. Though this is particularly stressful on her body and sanity, driving her to extremes of bloodlust and violence for its own sake. While she mostly has fun, the violence of vampire life is starting to wear on her, and she harbors a much more sensitive and romantic side, growing increasingly more frustrated with her role as an apex predator pushing her into the slot of 'dominant super badass' that doesn't really get to be soft or adored.

She loves REALLY big guns and cannons, and often uses her super strength specifically to make use of exceptionally large guns. She has a form of telekinesis that generally manifests as spooky phenomena happening around her, and she can make use of it to make using these big guns more easy by remotely toggling switches and activating complex mechanisms without having to touch them.

She excels at the psychic powers of the vampire, able to read minds and souls with incredible detail and finesse, and this often manifests as really scary, casual insight and knowing things she shouldn’t. She can ‘talk’ to animals and objects as well, and learn things by just touching them. Her senses are incredibly acute, and she even has regular prophetic insight and oracular visions. She can see spirits and ghosts, and interact with them. She can even possess others completely, and telepathically read minds. This does tend to exacerbate her odd speech; the more she looks into the mental world or uses her psychic abilities, the more her strange filter gets worse and the harder time she has conveying any actual meaning, and to her it becomes harder to think in terms of the prosaic and mundane.

Additionally, the minds of those she feeds on have a stronger influence on her. Even for vampires she is good at internalizing the traits and memories of those she feeds, and can treat feeding on others as a power up (and influence her abilities, giving them new applications for a while), but their speaking patterns and mindsets can affect her, or even completely overwhelm her. The thoughts of others she picks up on with her psychic abilities can have a similar effect.
