Well on the positive side, I think I'm over the hump cause I had a fever of 102 this morning and it broke around midday. I was able to see the doctor and got antibiotics today too. Now all I need is more rest.*sigh* I think my body has been fighting a few different viruses cause my symptoms have been all over the place. Plus I've been feeling more tired and weak weeks before now. At least it has been addressed and my body has treatment to fully recover. I hope I can get well enough to DoorDash next week. Dearest Jesus, please heal and help my body recover soon. You know I have responsibilities that are weighting on me, and I wish to be well so I may do them. You know my heart Lord. If you'll indulge my upcoming ramble -

I had some wack ass dream about your story. Though my dream interpreted the way the bugs work as more like a half-zombie infrction kinda vibe where the Mobians eat their victims and instead of blackouts they instead just get massive personality shifts. My brain processed it as me reading your story's later chapters though, so take that how you will.

Not gonna give full details unless you want em', but one plotpoint I wanted to tell you about was Espio being infected and having extreme bloodlust and hunger, yet still had enough control to be somewhat conscious. Vector helps him stay under the radar as much as he can by killing additional witnesses for Espio in hopes to find a way to save him, but it starts getting way out of hand to the point where Vector tells Espio that he can't keep covering for him. In the most recent "outing" Espio killed 100 people, and Vector had to kill triple that just to keep his secret. Fighting and chase sequence ensues.

Oh also Charmy was already long dead lmao. Maybe my dream was trying to give Vector a "this guy is all I have left so I gotta protect him" sort of plotline? Totally OOC if you ask me, but the dream was interesting.

dawg that would give Vector alone a MASSIVE kill count like what 😭

This au is so cool!!! How are all of the survivors coping?

🪭- I did say that I made this to distract myself a bit... this whole thing has been VERY stressful, for all of us.

🧪- I've been trying to remain calm throughout all of this. But it's been incredibly hard. Especially with the pressure of making a cure for this infrction which I have...well, no knowledge on whatsoever.

🖌- It's been awful. I want to go back to my normal life more than anything. Back when we didn't have to hide inside a lab all the time. Back when we didn't have to carry weapons any time we do go out. It's just, awful.

📄- I'm doing... okay? I don't really go out as much as the others, so I haven't really seen as much as what they've seen. I just hope that we'll be able to fix all of this.

🔪- I'd say I'm doing the best I can in a situation where I have to deal with feral zombies basically every day of my life

You walked out of the freezer after 4-5 minutes. It was..quite painful but its better than being cannibalized by a creature double your size. Or getting your skin ripped out by a walking corpse.

You walked around the mall,looking for bandages to stop the bleeding on your arm.

It was a foolish idea to open that cage

Medical equipment and...some pieces of viscera on the ground. From the way it was spilled onto the ground you asssume someone met the faith you would have met if you werent fast enough to escape him.

You looked away from the ground,pushed away the urge to gag because of the smell and the scene.

You walked to one of the drawers,opened it.

Rats.

And even more viscera. Someone. Something stored it here as if like it would need it someday.

You pushed away the pieces and the dead rats to pick up the bandages,was it a good idea to use them? The rats might be diseased. The viscera slightly staining it might cause an infection.

...

You will be fine. If you get out of here you will see a doctor incase of an infrction. You cant risk getting caught because of the scent of the blood. And the trails it left behind because it dripped from the wound onto the floor.

You wiped away the remaining stuff from the roll of bandage and continued to look for stuff

A clean piece of cloth..its suprising its not stained with anything. You're lucky you can clean the wound and patch it up without an issue for now.

You did Just that. Wiped the blood off with the cloth. It did hurt a bit. Caused you to flinch. But the pain was nothing compared to what would happen if they sensed the scent.

You wrapped the bandage around the wound once you were done cleaning it

You took a deep breath

The other drawers were empty. Other than more Dead animals and some body parts. Someone was really storing all of them. For what..?

You pushed the thoughts and question away. It was not the time to think why it was storing all that. You need to get out of this hell hole.

You walked out of the medical room.

You frooze.

Something was in the hallway.

Staring at you.

Your breath caught on your throat.

You stayed still hoping it would leave.

It stared atyou for a while. Taking a few steps forward

It got close enough for you to see what it was..

The walking corpse..with a cloak..

You squinted your eyes to take in the details more clearly.

You wish you didnt.

The cloak. The material it was made out of wasnt silk.

Or cotton.

Or anything like that.

It was skin.

You felt your stomach drop

You pushed back the urge to gag once again

You held your breath

It stared down at you for a while before walking away into another hall..

You did the right thing by staying jn that freezer despite the corpses in there.. it couldnt sense any warmth.

You did the right thing by cleaning and cleaning up the wound.

Perhaps it didnt sense the scent of the blood. Or the smell of the dead rats made it think it was Just some rodents running around the hall..

You continued walking once you were sure you were safe.

Alright so..

Incoming thoughts on Cadou and The Aging Process!

As always nothing too concrete going on here, just some thoughts and ponderations and perhaps a weeee bit of completely making things up whole cloth for my own enjoyment..

So to begin!!

I believe it's fairly proven fact that cadou/megamycete makes you ~functionally~ immortal right? Like obviously you can be Killed if infected but it ain't easy, and you don't really die of old age.

But if we're working with the possibility that like.. Karl was given his Cadou at a younger age but is now Old and Alcina was given her's at 44 but looks.. perhaps a Bit older (save the Largeness ofc) but in relatively the same age range

Then somethin weirds gotta be going on, and it's probably not a frozen-in-time immortality situation

(not to mention Donna and Moreau, who like??? Who knows when they were taken in and how old they were? Personally my head cannon infrction order for them is Moreau, taken as an adult - Donna, as a young adult - Alcina, as an adult - and Karl, as a child.. something to perhaps expand upon another day)

So I posit two ideas that work in tandem;

1) how much it affects your aging process is dependent on your infection stability. We see how Cadou stability affects a person's physical make-up; moreau is extremely unstable, Alcina is more in control but is still clearly struggling in some ways.

Karl and Donna on the otherhand undergo no severe physical changes, or all their changes are internal rather than external, as the Cadou adheres completely to their bodily systems. [also notable here is the difference in alci/sal turning into monsters Vs. how heis does it and the fact that donna Doesn't but that's yet another topic for another day] They are leagues more stable, both near perfect specimens, as Miranfa notes.

So the more stable you are the less Cadou is likely to interfere with your aging process, you do just kinda grow up. But if you're Cadou is unstable things get kinda Fucky. (It's a bit hard to tell with Moreau since he's a fish man and all, which I think is a transformation that happened slowly over time, but in Alcina's case particularly her mutation has a lot to do with cell growth and regeneration, so it kind of makes sense she wouldn't Age as much as someone with a mutation that just Grew New Organs One Time)

2) It slows things down on a sort of plateauing curve.

Definitely something with no/very little Textual evidence that i've mostly just made up to satisfy my need for Answers and Understanding and Making My Headcannons Work but it kinda tracks that the longer the parasite is in your system, the deeper it digs itself in and melds to you, and the Older You Get, the less you will Age because you are being propped up by this nasty self-sustaining mold parasite.

(Basically; everyone becomes Ethan Eventually lol)

So Karl and Donna are both possibly older than they look but are Also physically much older than they were when they were infected with Cadou.. and Alci's already slowed-down aging would get even slower.

And Moreau... is a Fish.. it's hard to tell how old he's supposed to be because of how badly he's been bunked up..

This does leave a Bit of a weird mystery with Mother Miranda, who appears to have aged exactly 0 since she found the megamycete..

i have 2 ideas for this as well;

(could really be either/or/and here, things don't always have to be concrete when we're making things up about source material we didn't initially create..)

But the possibilities i've so far considered;

Is that Miranda, unlike the Lords, was infected with megamycete directly, and not it's parasitic extract Cadou, and so it's possible she has a more complete and all consuming connection to the mold, like Ethan or the bakers had, and that that Does just whole hog halt the aging process (implying that Miranda is also Completely Mold)

Or that she works on the same plateau curve rules and has been aging ever so slowly, but her ability to take on different forms allows her to uphold the illusion of (relative)Youth. (In this idea I like to imagine that the Old Hag is in fact her truest form... And that she uses her eternally younger apperance to bolster religious belief in her, and the persona as the hag to reinforce said beliefs amongst villagers, and keep an eye on everyone, and has done this for a looong time)

And.. yeah!! That's all that really.. I'm kinda endlessly fascinated by thinking about how megamycete/cadou work and how it all seems so weird and magical (and it definitely like... Is) but there are still like.. very real ways to tie it back to core mold/fungal behaviours of like.. growth and consumption and perpetuation/sustainment!! It's cool idk!

(Gotta... resist.... going off.... about re7/8's themeing being about Family and collecting/growing a family... And then centering it... around an Argueably sentient in some ways if you really wanna think about it Mold/fungus.... Ahhh... I don't know enough about literary analysis to talk about this Smartly...)

Firestar, Greystripe, Whitestorm, Leopardstar, Mudfur, Blackclaw. The three riverclaners Carry Misty, Feather, and Primrosepaw on their backs to Firestar, Greystripe, and Whitestorm. They all put the wounded cats on the Thunderclanner's backs. Mudfur speaks to Firestar. "Tigerstar yanked out all of Primrosepaw's claws in her left front paw yesterday for protecting Featherpaw from Twanypaw. They haven't stopped bleeding tell Cinderpelt they'll need herbs for infrction."

The three riverclanners watch as the Thunderclan cats carry off the wounded she cats. Then...Tigerstar finds out. He breaks three of Blackclaws legs, so the tom can never properly be a warrior again, kills Leopardstar and..tells Mudfur exactly what he's going to do with his new queen once she wakes up.
