Since spring is blooming and summer fast approaching, roaches have returned. I saw one a few nights ago atop an empty cabnet door and a glimpse of another tonight crawling between a drawer.
While i dont mind roaches as a species, theyre not welcome in my home. I'm a clean person, but since I live in an apartment they can be a collective issue. And, as with any bug, they will inevitably find their way inside because theyre so small and can fit through cracks and gaps in walls and doors. So repelling them as much as possible is obligatory.
I usually kill them on sight when i see them, which I've become good at, but every now and then I'll spare them by catch-and-release. I dont enjoy killing the roaches as much as I dont enjoy seeing them inside because, again, I dont hate roaches for what they are, and I respect their important niches in nature. Also, tbh, I dont like the idea of getting roach guts everywhere after I smash them lol. So I looked up a few natural remedies for repelling them, particularly the German cockroach variety that usually intrudes where i live.
This article gives tips on natural and easy methods to repell roaches, including a few natural insecticides like boric acid:
I liked this article for listing various plants that can or could repell roaches:
The article about insecticidal herbs and plants inspires me to finally invest in growing plants in my home. Id rlly like to try my hand at growing plants, especially since I have compost to help out.
Hopefully some of the plants listed in the article are shade-friendly 😭. My unit doesnt get much sunlight for long lol.

FLUORIDE BUG KILLER #insects #bugs #repellant #killer
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons of sugar
4 tablespoons of flour
3 tablespoons of toothpaste
3 tablespoons of water
Method:
1. Prepare the Mixture: In a bowl, combine the sugar, flour, toothpaste, and water. Mix thoroughly until you achieve a smooth consistency.
2. Form Balls: Take small amounts of the mixture and roll them into small balls. These balls will serve as bait for the cockroaches.
3. Strategic Placement: Position the balls in the corners of your home that are frequented by cockroaches. Focus on areas like the kitchen, pantry, and behind appliances.
4. Attract and Eliminate: Cockroaches will be drawn to the sugar in the mixture and will ingest parts of the balls. The toothpaste acts similarly to poison, effectively eliminating the pests.
5. Repeat Regularly: Repeat this process two to three times a week until you no longer spot any cockroaches. Consistency is key to ensuring their complete eradication.

Top 5 Factors To Consider Before Buying A Mosquito Repellent
Tumblr media
Mosquitoes can spread dangerous diseases. Our insect repellent buying suggestions identify which products work best against them. Choosing the right repellent matters: Our top products from Ultima Search provide almost a full day of protection, while other competitive products could even fizzle out in less than an hour. So, arm yourself with a high-performing repellent especially now in the monsoon to ensure that mosquitoes cannot spread potentially harmful and fatal diseases like malaria, dengue, and worse.
To Help You Choose The Right Mosquito Repellent, Here Are Important Factors You Need To Consider:
Kids at home It is vital to consider that DEET-based mosquito repellents might or may not be suitable for infants and children, generally true for children below the age of 5 years. This is because DEET-based mosquito repellents have a high risk of inducing skin rashes and severe irritation. Furthermore, DEET as an ingredient can prove toxic when ingested, and young children may accidentally consume some as they often put their hands in their mouths. Instead, opt for an essential oil-based mosquito repellent. Use a repellant that contains powerful mosquito-repelling essential oils such as Lemon Eucalyptus, Cedarwood oil, Peppermint oil, and Citronella oil to name a few. Keep dengue at bay with a mosquito repellent spray made from natural, plant-based ingredients that are gentle on your skin, smell great, and are safe for your family.
Pets at home DEET is also not considered to be pet-safe, so if you have pets at home you should think twice before using DEET products around them as they can not only cause seizures but also be fatal. On the other hand mosquito repellent made from essential oils and natural ingredients (in small doses) are considered to be pet-safe even if your pet is not too fond of the aroma. Obviously, you cannot use mosquito spray while your pets are in close vicinity, but it won’t harm them if you spray it around your home and then interact with your pets. Engage outdoors with your pets without worrying about mosquito bites.
How long you will be outside Sprays containing 10% DEET last around 6 hours on the skin and 24 hours on the body. The longer something lasts in your body, the increased likelihood of you developing adverse reactions to it down the line. If you are out for a scanty period of time, choose an essential oil-based mosquito repellent, so you won’t have any hazardous chemicals on your skin or fabric and potentially contaminating other things or people you come into contact with. There are some reports suggesting that the amount of DEET absorbed into the body may increase when treated skin is covered with clothing and alcohol or sunscreen is also applied to the skin. Spending an extended time outdoors increases the potential for greater absorption of DEET into your body.
Ingredients in the mosquito repellent you choose DEET, as mentioned earlier, is a synthetic insect-repellent chemical. If you are not keen on exposing your children to this chemical, you might be safer sticking to plant-based insect repellents. These are just as effective as a DEET-based repellent. Mosquito repellents made from essential oils contain ingredients such as Citronellal, Citronellol, and PMD. These are shown to be as effective as DEET in repelling mosquitoes. The best essential oils that have mosquito-repelling properties are Lemon Eucalyptus Oil, Tea Tree Oil, and Himalayan Lavender Oil. It's a good idea to combine 7-8 drops of essential oil with 1.5 tablespoons of witch hazel, then apply the mixture to your exposed skin by spraying.
Type of clothes you wear What do you normally wear outdoors? Waterproof, sweat-wicking, breathable fabrics? Did you know DEET degrades and destroys clothing made from synthetic fibres? You cannot use DEET if you are using clothing made with synthetics, like nylon and waterproof/breathable membranes, or plastics. Even a small amount of DEET dissolves these materials and pretty soon you could end up with clothes that have mysterious holes in them. Essential oil-based mosquito repellents, unlike DEET, are clothing-friendly, making them safe for application on, under, or with any fabric, ensuring you can use them worry-free!
In a Nutshell: The Phase-wise mosquito menace solution program from Ultima Search is known to be an absolutely effective eradicator of mosquitoes. It includes a survey to determine the quantum and species of adults and larvae, the elimination of breeding places, and larvae control through various larvicidal sprays. It also includes eco-friendly spraying coupled with fogging during the late evening or early morning hours coinciding with adult mosquito activity periods. Just one more integral service offered by the leaders in pest control; Ultima Search.

PSA: if you happen to have ground cloves or clove oil lying around mix it into a spray (preferably mist) bottle with a little vinegar and dish soap of your choice and it not only kills the ants and flies that are right there at the time of spraying but gets their friends to fuck off too. I've sprinkled a little bit of baking soap beforehand on particularly large gatherings for extra damage.
THIS IS NOT MIGRAINE FRIENDLY AS THE SMELL LINGERS!!! It is however pet and respiratory friendly
