Ronan Donovan @ronan_donovan is one of my absolute favorite photographers. His photos and documentation of wolves are incredible and the relationships he has developed with specific packs is extraordinary. Big time honor to represent a wolf he formed a certain relationship and trust with in this piece. This project was made possible with a grant from @insidenatgeo and created in collaboration with @amplifierart for @wyss_campaign. The Instagram AR filters to view this artwork, and free downloads of all the art in the series that can be activated with your phone, are available at @amplifierart.

Reposted from @natgeointhefield Photo by Brian Otieno @storitellah / It’s been one year since the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. To commemorate the anniversary, we are sharing photographer’s stories of the pandemic from around the globe.  A volunteer disinfects a public bus in Kibera, Kenya where public transit is essential for nearly all of the residents. Public transport is a lifeline for most Kibera residents who want to move around in and within the city. While we were all being asked to stay at home, some went out of their way to serve and protect their communities. This work was supported by the @insidenatgeo COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists. #KiberaStories (at Kibera, Nairobi Area, Kenya) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMSUy3WAY1C/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Video by @babaktafreshi | The sparkling lights of synchronous fireflies are seen in the Great Smoky Mountains, first in fast-motion (4x) and then in real-time video. This forest floor in Tennessee is mating habitat for the largest colony in the Western Hemisphere. These fireflies blink in sync and then pause for 7-8 seconds. The benefit of syncing is not exactly clear, but they sync only when lots of other lightning bugs are nearby. Firefly populations are in decline worldwide due to pesticides, loss of habitat, and light pollution. The light signals stop in the presence of bright artificial light. @insidenatgeo

A rowdy crest gives an air of eccentricity to golden Polish chickens like this one - do they look regal, or merely unkempt? They don’t hail from Poland but are so named because their raucous topknots resemble the elaborate feathered caps Polish soldiers once wore. Photo taken @soukupfarms. Incredibly fascinated with the indigenous architecture of Ghana. Everything has its use. It keeps you cool during the day and warm at night. There is storage for food, and animals—which I’m still not used to the idea of animals being so “inside” but then I think about how people keep their dogs these days.

And one other thing I like the most is the flat top. If it is really really hot people can sleep on top. These were the days before there were open gutters and stagnant water everywhere so there weren’t as many mosquitoes.

In the darkness you could hear the crying of women, the wailing of infants, and the shouting of men. Some prayed for help. Others wished for death. But still more imagined that there were no Gods left, and that the universe was plunged into eternal darkness. Open Arts Alumni Spotlight: Lars Bergquist (@no_touching_ground) | Lars grew up in Alaska the son of a commercial fishing family, and thus much of his life has been intricately woven into the environment. He started working on his dad’s boat in the late 1980’s and saw first hand the catastrophic effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. This event was deeply influential in his life, informing much of his artwork moving forward and making clear the impact humans can have on the environment.
For this project by Aaron Huey (@argonautphoto), Lars created interpretations of endangered species based on photographs from @NatGeo photographers @prasen.yadav, @ronan_donovan and @amivitale; his images can be activated with augmented reality filters in Instagram to play video footage and sounds from each species in their native habitat. The artwork drives awareness for the Campaign for Nature’s ambitious science-driven goal to protect at least 30 percent of the planet by 2030.
🤳This project was made possible with a grant from @insidenatgeo and created in collaboration with @amplifierart for @wyss_campaign. The Instagram AR filters to view this artwork, and free downloads of all the art in the series that can be activated with your phone, are available at @amplifierart.

Girls wait in line to take a shower at a facility in Kibera, Kenya set up by a local organization trying to combat the spread of coronavirus by helping locals maintain personal hygiene. Most Kibera residents do not have access to indoor plumbing in their homes. Check link on bio to read how Kibera is responding to the coronavirus pandemic. Supported by @insidenatgeo. KATHAKALI. Kathakali means Story-Play. “Katha-Story” and “kali-play”. It was one of the amazing time to see something new we never experienced to see it live. Worthy of each moment. It’s a perfect combination of dance, drama, music and religious theme. An oldest form of classical dance originated more than 500 years ago in Southern state of Kerala. From expression, playing with eyes and the way they express a story through their dance is really incredible. They are generally performed by men wearing headgear, swirled skirt and junk ornaments. The artists through their graceful body movement plays the mythological characters from the Hindu epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana. A traditional drum, known as Chenda is played to accompany by one or two singers. Must watch if you plan to visit there. They also give opportunity to perform along at last. Don’t miss that moment too. 😁 I tried it. I loved it. ♥️ Thankyou for reading and giving your time. 🙏🏻 Share and comment if you loved it. Would love to know if you already experienced it. 📸: #fujifilmxt3 #saurabhtheexplorer #saurabhsetia #fujifilm #kathakali #kerala #dance #art #artist #kathak #indianclassicaldance #india #ongooglemaps #letsguide #knowfurther #insidenatgeo #NGTIndia #lonelyplanet #mylpguide #iamatraveler #bbctravel #LoveTheWorld #cnntravel #passionpassport #passionpassportvideo #dametraveler #forbestravelguide #thediscoverer #tourtheplanet (at Thekkady) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRgkfHqsXye/?utm_medium=tumblr
