Obligatory Valentine’s Day post. I don’t get Valentine’s Day, the whole concept of one day a year where it’s acceptable to tell someone you love them and actually show that you give a shit is lost on me. I’m probably gonna screw this up but whatever. 

I never did relationships. I lived a very simple existence of get some and get gone for years but then there was a get some and you should stick around for as long as you can. Then it went from days without seeing each other to being in bed and holy shit I love you and what you doing this weekend cos I think you should marry me. A beautiful wife and our two little boys in a house that we decorated together having no idea that it we were decorating OUR home. But we didn’t stop there, because why would we? We’ve never done anything conventional so let’s have some fun and have a threesome with my best friend except it wasn’t a threesome and I went from never having a relationship to realising that I had from in my heart for two people.

Keep your cheesy cliches, your rule books for how love is supposed to go. Life is messy and ugly and dangerous and the people that matter, the ones that are worthwhile, they don’t care about that, they’ll be by side every step of the way, regardless of the risks involved.

This is to the two incredible humans I love, the ones that see my utterly exhausted, wearing spit up and bags under my eyes while trying to calm a cry baby who is testing my limits. The humans who know when to call me out on my shit or make it so I can have an uninterrupted shower. The humans that I know are going to be the reason that Colman and Cairán are going to grow up to be incredible. 

To @chaoticdrcolleen and @zivkohen I don’t get this Valentine’s Day bollocks, but I do know that I love you and that I’m thankful for you both.

Happy New Year from the O’Connor-Wayne clan! May 2020 bring you plenty of joy, endless love and countless blessings! 

2019 has been one immense rollercoaster of a year and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I never really understood how a year could change you so drastically but this year proved to me just how much can happen. I still can’t wrap my head around everything. I am beyond blessed and my heart is so full of love. 

I am so in love with my family. My beautiful wife. Our beautiful boys. My wonderful sister who I get to call my best friend. My gorgeous nephew. The surprising woman who is destined to be my sister in-law. I have travelled the world, seen wondrous things but none of them compare to my family. 

I can’t wait to see what 2020 holds in store for us all.

Everyone feels hurt, anger, frustration, fear. All too often we don’t allow ourselves to work through those emotions, instead we stuff them deep down until eventually the pressure is too much. We have the capacity to deal with those emotions, to work through them so that they don’t consume us. People turn their noses up at the idea of therapy but they fail to realise that therapy comes in so many forms. For me, this is my therapy. When I’m boxing, I can channel all of that energy and work through those emotions in a safe environment and in a healthy way and not just because I’ve put the gloves on but because a real trainer will listen to you because your mental wellbeing impacts your physical wellbeing.
