Did you know? There is an offical Valve themed Peggle game!
I'm serious. This shit is real.

"Peggle Extreme" was developed by PopCap in 2007. There are ten levels, all using Valve's ui and characters. Peggle Extreme includes three Half Life levels, four Team Fortress 2 levels, and three Portal levels.
Orginally, this game could only be obtained by installing the Orange Box on Steam in 2007, but it shortly was made free for all users a couple months later. The best news is, it's STILL free in 2024 for all to play!

This is the win screen if you care.

Voluminous Victorian | Sims 2 Residential Lot Download
This Victorian style home was built based on actual house plans and features 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms as well as large living spaces (because what kind of Victorian home would it be if it didn't have tons of space?!). 🤭 It sits on a 3X3 lot and is mostly unfurnished.
Cost: §118,573

The backyard is smaller, but there's room in the side-yard to add a swing set or other play equipment for the Simlets so they don't get bored...or, leave it as is to encourage some extra creativity and interest in nature by having them look for bugs, or catch butterflies!

And a view of the side-yard looking toward the back of the property:

A note about the driveway and garage: In sticking with the original house plans it made the driveway and garage inaccessible-meaning they are purely decorative. It is possible to place a driveway over top of the pavers with the "moveobjects" cheat, but you'll have to do that each time you load the lot.
Use the garage as a workout room, or pop a woodworking station in there and create classic toys to entertain the neighborhood!

This is a lot I originally built back in 2006 or 2007, and that should have been shared to my Simblr with the group of lots I put up in 2022, but it seems to have been missed! I took this opportunity to re-do the roof and dress the garden beds up a little. If you're one of the folks who snagged the old lot (which was available in my main SFS files folder), please redownload. 😊
Even though the home is mostly unfurnished I did grab a couple shots of the interior.
Kitchen:

Entryway and stairs: Why stairs? This picture shows off the new plain white (NO more ugly bright aqua stripe!!1) Euro stairs and railing default that Rosie shared with me in response to a WCIF! Grab it here if you need it for your game too. I have always liked the shape of these objects but have never been able to use this color of the set because of that glaring bright blue stripe. 🤭 Look for these stairs and railings to feature in a lot more of my builds! Now I just need to find someone who wants to remove the bright blue stripe from all the other items in the white version of the OFB Euro set.
They are open underneath, so I've put a few decorations up to show that feature off. Feel free to change the décor to fit your sim family's style.

1st Floor: Clockwise from bottom right: dining room, 1/2 bathroom, kitchen, garage, bathroom, laundry room, family room, office nook, stairwell, living room.

2nd Floor: 4 bedrooms, and 3 more bathrooms. 🎉

Voluminous Victorian: MF | SFS
All EPs and SPs are required.
I’ve run this home through the Lot Compressor so any random references to sims that aren’t there should be removed. I have also run this lot through the Lot Cleaner to remove any bits of buggy code. This lot comes with a shiny custom thumbnail so it has even more curb appeal in your Lots and Houses bin! 😄
This home has only 2 pieces of CC, which you may already have in your game. These can easily be replaced or omitted if you don’t want them though.
CC List (Included): -Maxis Match Wall Cabinets by CTNutmegger at ModtheSims -LG Dryer & Washer Machine by Fresh-Prince at ModtheSims (If you want a functional version try this set by MustLuvCats instead.)
Default Replacements Shown: -Plain white default of the OFB Euro stairs and fence rail by Rosie (Rosebine at MTS2) -Bay Tree texture default by @tvickiesims
Skybox used in the main images: -"Spectacular Sunset" Skyglobe by iCad Thanks to @simmergetic for the inspo! The pink sky went with this lot and all its pink flowers so nicely.
I ALWAYS recommend using the Sims 2 Pack Clean installer to install lot files.
Want to improve the look of your game, or grab some "Lost & Found" Maxis objects? Check out this post.

A bombshell new report states that the British government is knowingly sending millions of pounds to the terrorist group Hamas.
NGO Monitor obtained a British Consulate-General in Jerusalem (BCGJ) document dated November 2022 with a plan for “UK Humanitarian Support in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”
The document notes distribution of “multi-purpose cash” assistance in Gaza. The document states, “The cash assistance component will be implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development MoSD. … The MoSD in Gaza is affiliated with the de facto authorities and thus UK Aid can be linked directly or indirectly with supporting the de factor [sic] authority (Hamas) in Gaza which is part of a proscribed group.”
“Since taking control of Gaza in 2007, Hamas has employed a number of methods to divert international aid,” NGO Monitor wrote. “By exploiting monies and material intended for humanitarian purposes, the terrorist organization expanded its military infrastructure, paid salaries, and cemented its rule. More disturbingly, this aid diversion was central in Hamas’ preparations for the October 7 massacre, including the construction of tunnels and other military installations, and stockpiling supplies and resources.”
“Hamas has exercised effective control over the MoSD in Gaza for several years. In April 2019, Hamas appointed a politburo member, Ghazi Hamad, to lead the Ministry,” NGO Monitor notes. “As of July 2024, Hamas leader and politburo member, Ghazi Hamad, heads the Gaza branch of the MoSd. … In November 2024, the US Treasury Department designated Hamad, labeling him a “senior Hamas official. … In an October 24, 2023 interview on Lebanese television, Hamad hailed the October 7th massacre.”
“A Hamas-controlled entity was an integral partner in determining how cash assistance provided by the UK government to UNICEF would be distributed in Gaza,” NGO Monitor’s Anne Herzberg explained.
Israeli journalist Amit Segal noted after reading the report that the funding appears to have continued after the Hamas terrorist offensive.
“But maybe London changed its policy after October 7?“ Segal asked rhetorically. “Well, in March 2024, UNICEF wrote that it ‘maintained and strengthened the partnership with the MoSD,’ adding in November that ‘this humanitarian cash transfer program in the Gaza Strip is supported by the European Union, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).’”
“Citing the UN Financial Tracking System, NGO Monitor wrote that ‘in 2024, the UK provided UNICEF with approximately $23.1 million for West Bank and Gaza operations,’” Segal pointed out, adding, “And yet, at the same time that Britain is knowingly sending millions of pounds to Hamas, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is busy condemning Israel for the war in Gaza.”

Description of Nara's filmography.
Keep in mind all of this is FICTIONAL and she's a Kpop OC.
Shattered Reflections
is a 2006 South Korean coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Jeong Jae-eun. The film follows the story of a man (Sol Kyung-gu) that, after 15 years ago of leaving his pregnant girlfriend behind, returns to Jeonju to bond with his teenage daughter (NARA). A movie that reflects parenthood, NARA’s character deals with real and imaginary memories that fill in the gaps and expectations of a man she didn’t know.
Despite the box office failure and the negative reaction of the audience, who deemed the film too “boring”, it was nominated for an awards ceremony recognizing the achievements of Korean independent and low-budget films - the forerunner of the Wildflower Film Awards. They didn’t win anything, but it is a really outstanding memory for Nara.
In the midst of the pandemic, some critics revisited the film and classified it as a “cult ahead of its time”.
Attack on the Pin-Up Boys
is a 2007 Korean high school mystery comedy film, and is the first film produced by SM Pictures, a subsidiary of SM Entertainment. The film stars all members of the boy band Super Junior, with the exception of Kyuhyun who was injured and still recovering from a car accident on 19 April 2007. The story centres around a series of attacks on popular high school students that occurred on the 14th of each month. Some students — Kibum and Donghae — decide to investigate the incidents and find the culprit, while some targeted students, Heechul and Kangin, try to bait the culprit into attacking them so as to raise their popularity.
Nara act as a popular girl both Heechul and Kangin want to ask out.
School 5
is a 2008 South Korean television series starring NARA, Kim Kibum, Park Gyuri, Yuri and Song Joongki . It’s the fifith installment of KBS’s School series wich aired on KBS2 from November 31, 2008 to January 25, 2009. The drama is centered around high school students who not only have to deal with school tasks but will also have to face the problems that come with being a youth; such as first love, friendship, career prospects and bullying. The series has been noted for launching the careers of rookie actors.
Karigurashi no Arietti (Arietty)
is a 2010 Japanese animated fantasy film directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi as his feature film debut as a director, animated by Studio Ghibli. The korean dubbing stars the voice of NARA from Super Junior and tells the story of a young Borrower (Shida) befriending a human boy (Kamiki), while trying to avoid being detected by the other humans.
Rites of Passage
is a korean college mystery-drama series that aired on KBS2 from March 21 to May 24, 2012 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Starring NARA (from Super Junior) and Im Siwan (from ZE:A), the story follows two college students in their first year of University that discovers a cult inside the campus and decide to investigate.
NARA has tried to bring a deeper meaning to the drama saying it’s about growing up because “a teenager will always need all the hope the world can give them, because they have just lost the fantasy of childhood and are preparing for adulthood, it’s an allegory”, but the critics didn’t agree with her view and tought the whole series was just shallow (the audience didn’t like it too).
(i will probably change this aesthetic later)
Sabbatical Serenade
is a korean musical comedy-drama television series that premiered in May 11, 2023, on MBC and ended on August 24, 2023. The series was created, written and directed by NARA and Shindong and stars NARA in the lead role as Yeo-Eun, a burned out lyricist who decided to leave her enterntainment company to take a sabbatical year. However, when ordinary people start singing in line at the market, the protagonist suspects that she may be experiencing serious mental problems.
It was qualified as a R rated series because of the frank portayal of alcoholism, female sexuality and health (such as period and menopause), mental illness, divorce and the entertainment industry. Each episode contains three to five original songs. These are usually sung by Yeo-Eun (NARA) or a character with whom she is having a direct interaction, parodying the musical theater conceit of characters bursting into song at significant moments in the plot.
The show divided critical opinions.
It received some critical acclaim, with critics praising the show’s writing, musical numbers, NARA’s performance and Shindong direction. It nailed every music genre it explored and brought to light a eccentric commentary on human relationships with a highly profane but surprisingly poignant dramedy, not ashamed to talk about these issues. The show received some awards and have 97% on rotten tomatoes.
On the other hand, some said it was overly exagerated and had “no values”. The sex jokes were overbearing and all of it was too progressive, not something MBC needed to have in their schedule. They commented that some things “are taboo becase they need to be” and attacked NARA’s appearences saying she was fat — addressed numerous in the show itself when the character is having depressive thoughts or when her mother says it — and ugly without makeup — semiotic choice made by the actress itself to show how normal people are.
Although NARA, Shindong and the show itself received some hate from knetizen, it trended every week and broke the audience record in MBC. All of Korea was watching, whether to speak well or badly.
A lot of actors were newly debuted from small companies, because she needed people to sing, dance, act and that weren’t super famous — both because of the budget and because of the theme, knowing a lot of them would reject to avoid tarnishing their careers if the show went badly. Yet, people loved some cameos such as Heo Kyung-hwan, Park Narae, Min Kyung Hoo, Lee Dong-gun and Kim Kibum.
Some HONEYs have 30 minute to hour long analysis on why the show is a masterpiece; is a show that knows it can do more than entertain, it can communicate. Brought the mental illness discussion to spotlight and explained NARA’s hiatus in 2016 with the phrase “she had to walk away from the thing she loved because it was tearing her to pieces”. It’s a personal opening to inside her mind, a portrait of a real person.
— some watchers became HONEYs because of the show, completely enamoured by NARA’s range of vocals, rapping, dance, acting, songwriting skills, ideas and courage.
inspiration
Crimson Crescendo
is a 2026 South Korean psychological horror thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook, who co-wrote the script with Chung Chung-hoon. The film follows the story of a dance coach (NARA) of a korean entertainment company that kidnaps a trainee (Kim Shi-Ah) wanting to quit idol life in the verge of debuting. With a claustrophobic composition, the cinematography seeks to discuss kpop industry problems, objectification of women, criminology in South Korea, sexual crimes and maternal issues. Lee Dongwook also appears as NARA’s character husband, with a sadistic-atrocious personality.
It’s a NC-17 rated film and displayed trigger warnings in promotions for scenes of torture and cruelty. It had had multiple guardianship council visits on the set to observe the treatment of the child, who needed to be assisted by a preparation team with child psychologists, intimacy directors and other necessary staff. It didn’t had any violations or irregularities regarding the treatment of actors.
The film received critical acclaim and is considered a classic despite it’s recent release. When in Cannes, one of the judges said “powerful film not because of what it depicts, but because of the depths of the human heart which it strips bare, every action makes a statement and has a purpose” while the Korean media claimed “it isn't for everyone, but it offers a breath of fresh air to anyone gasping on the fumes of too many traditional dramas.” The film's white-knuckle scenes, particularly the training “i want to look” and Dongwook’s character death, also received commendation for their impressive execution.
Sources said that NARA didn't have to audition and was chosen by the director himself after her performance in Sabbatical Serenade, completely fond of her ability to be real. Before the release, some hater-fans debated on why she didn’t have to audition but Dongwook did, discrediting her acting skills. Still, she received numerous indications at Baeksang Arts Awards, Blue Dragon Awards, Asia-Pacific Film Festival, Grand Bell Awards, Korean Film Awards, Cannes Festival and others, as main actress. Kim Shi-Ah and Dongwook also received a lot of praise and nominations as supporting actors.

A megachurch pastor faces jail for stalking a female congregation member after being caught twice breaking into her home on CCTV.
Marie Columna, 43, said she’s “still afraid” of Sergio Guardia, 49, a minister at the renowned Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Guardia was convicted by a jury last week on two counts of burglary and one count of stalking, according to Lynchburg Circuit Court and faces up to ten years in jail.
The megachurch in Lynchburg — founded by Jerry Falwell Sr. and affiliated with Liberty University — is one of the most celebrated Baptist churches in the country and is affiliated with the scandal-hit Southern Baptist Convention.
Marie, 43, a service coordinator for early intervention said she reported Guardia’s increasingly bizarre behavior before leaving the church in 2016 — but “nothing was ever done about it”.
The Lynchburg woman is speaking out about the 2023 break-ins, caught on security camera footage.
“I was out of state with my children visiting a friend, and I got a notification on my phone that a person was in my house,” Marie recalled.
The footage, captured at 11:30 p.m. on November 10, revealed Guardia walking through the door and creeping around the kitchen.
“Every light was off, and he was using the flashlight on his phone. It was very clear that he knew exactly where he was – that he had been in my house before.”
Guardia, wearing sweatshirt and jeans, appeared to notice the camera and ran away.
Marie, who had installed security cameras about a month before, due to a series of neighborhood break-ins, said she called police the next morning.
“I was coming back Sunday, so we agreed I’d call the officer when I returned home, and we’d do the report,” she recalled. “I wanted to press charges.”
The next night, while still out of town, Marie received another alert — this time showing Guardia entering her backyard.
The camera feed revealed Guardia entering through the basement — into her daughter’s bedroom.
“The entire basement is my daughter’s bedroom, which is like a den,” she explained.
Marie, who has a 17-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son, was in shock.
“He got in the same way the night before,” she said.
“My daughter has left that door unlocked before, and her friends use it to come over. The key is easy to find, right when you walk in, on a shelf at eye level.”
Police later confirmed there was no sign of forced entry, leaving Marie with a strong suspicion.
“Either the door was unlocked or he had a key.”
Fearing for her safety, Marie called police again.
“I reported that I was having a break-in, and it was Sergio Guardia, and he was currently in my house.”
Officers arrived, guns drawn, and searched every inch of the house, including bedrooms, closets, and even kitchen cabinets.
They also sent in a dog to search the property, but he wasn’t found.
“They searched the yard and the neighbor’s yards,” Marie explained.
When the police showed Marie a photo of Guardia, the connection was immediate.
“There was no question it was him. Within two hours of that break-in, Sergio was charged and arrested,” she said. “I never thought he’d be breaking into my house.”
Marie, who had a longstanding history with Guardia, described their initial friendship as close.
She first met him when she got married in 2007 and attended his Spanish-language church service at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
After separating from her husband in 2011, Guardia and his wife encouraged her to return to the church, promising support. But Guardia’s behavior soon became unusual, she said.
“He was supportive of me being separated from my husband, but he was telling me that I shouldn’t be talking to men after church or in the church,” she recalled.
“He saw how many male friends I had on Facebook and told me to delete and block them.”
After finalizing her divorce in 2015, she said Guardia’s behavior left her more worried.
“He started showing up at my house with groceries, but only when my kids weren’t home. I never asked for help, but he would come anyway,” she explained.
“He began visiting randomly, and even when I told him I wasn’t comfortable, he continued coming.”
She says Guardia’s visits escalated.
“At times, I would pull up to my house, and he was already on my steps. It felt like there was no way of getting away from him,” she said.
The situation reached a breaking point when Guardia allegedly confessed his feelings for her.
“He told me he was in love with me and wanted a relationship. I said I didn’t even want him at my house, let alone a relationship. I told him not to come back, but he did.”
She moved multiple times in an attempt to get away from Guardia.
However, she says Guardia managed to find her each time, even showing up uninvited.
“I came home in the middle of the day and found him in my living room on my laptop.
“When I confronted him, he gaslit me, saying he wasn’t doing anything wrong and acted excited to see me,” she recalled.
“He wouldn’t leave until I picked up my phone and said I was calling the police.”
Despite these encounters, she never reported him at the time due to fear of his influence.
“He’s not just a pastor, he’s a pastor at Thomas Road Baptist Church, a powerful and wealthy church. I didn’t believe I had any power against him, especially with no evidence,” she explained.
She eventually moved to her current home, but in the years leading up to the break-ins, she noticed suspicious activity on her online accounts.
“I started getting notifications that a new device had logged into my Yahoo email. When I checked the IP addresses, they were linked to Liberty University,” she said.
Marie later discovered that a Liberty email address was listed as a recovery option on her account, which she believed allowed Guardia to access her information.
Once she removed it, the login attempts stopped.
After years without direct contact, Marie was shocked to see Guardia on her security camera footage.
“I never imagined he would go this far,” she said. “Because he’s had no prior convictions, they gave him a $5,000 bond.
“I think he only spent four days in jail, and he’s been out ever since.”
With a pre-sentencing hearing scheduled for August 20, Marie remains fearful despite a protective order in place against the disgraced pastor.
“I don’t think he cares about anything,” she said.
Guardia, Marie says, is being backed by top administration at the church. Executive pastor Matt Wilmington was a witness of character for Guardia at the bond hearing when she testified.
She shared hope that her story would reach Guardia’s blind supporters, emphasizing the significance of the jury’s decision.
“I want them to hear my story, especially the fact that the jury found him guilty on all three counts, and that he’s now considered a felon,” she said.
“I want them to be scared. I want them to feel the same fear that anyone should have when facing the consequences of criminal activity.
“It’s typically women and children who are affected, and I believe it’s incredibly rare for those responsible to be held accountable.”
The Thomas Road Baptist Church did not immediately respond to request for comment.

2023 Movie Ranking
Note: Completely forgot this was in my drafts lol.
Again, highly subjective. Part of me wants to go back to posting in depth movie reviews lol. With, like, proper criticism and everything. Completely forgot this was in my drafts lol.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: Has the most effort put into it out of the other movies I’ve seen this year. I’m not a fan of every single Spider-Person, but I love, love all the animation styles. Also, back in 2020, I totally called the fact that Miguel is a stud. Totally called it.
Saw X: John and Amanda as villain protagonists? Yess. This franchise’s industrial horror vibe is unparalleled, as usual.
Barbie: Great litmus test.
Scream VI: To no one’s surprise. *currently wearing a Ghostface tee*
Totally Killer
The Last Voyage of the Demeter: Seriously underrated. It contains some of the most heart-staking death scenes in any Dracula media I’ve seen.
Thanksgiving: It’s about time! The trailer came out in 2007. XD
A Haunting in Venice
The Conference: I’ve been meaning to get back into Nordic noir, but this is the first Nordic slasher I’ve seen.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie: Pretty much the only time I played video games growing up was at the dentist office. So I always felt much less knowledgeable than, well, everyone on Mario. We can all agree Jack Black as Bowser was exquisite though, right?
Consecration: While I think religious horror should try something besides Catholicism, it’s worth a watch.
Five Nights at Freddy’s
Renfield: Fun horror comedy. Hopefully got at least some people to realize they’re in codependent relationships and seek help.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: So I’m not generally big on the MCU. GOTG however has the kind of ragtag bunch of misfits I like watching. Maybe not over and over again, however. The third installment was okay.
Evil Dead Rise: I liked Evil Dead 2013 better than the original because of its rancid vibes. Rise also pretty much feels grungy, if you’re into that.
The Boogeyman: Night Shift may have been one of the first King collections I read. (Just After Sunset was the second book I read by him.) The short story was great. The title monster’s reveal at the end? Not in the film. :(
Insidious: The Red Door: So I watched this without knowing they’d made a fourth Insidious. So I couldn’t compare it to The Last Key. Anyway, it had some odd scenes revolving around Nick. To the point where I wondered if someone in production just wanted to see frat boys in diapers.
Knock at the Cabin: First horror movie of 2023 I watched. Figured it would not be the best and it wasn’t. I’m not sure if reading the book would have made a difference. I just didn’t care for the plot.

Players from the USA are annoyed to the new part of The Witcher for being Woke and DEI… You are talking about a Polish studio from games, because the fucking CD Project Red is the fuck from Poland
Ciri literally looks like a typical Slavic woman from that time
"CD Projekt SA (until July 25, 2011 Optimus SA) - Polish joint -stock company dealing in the production and distribution of computer games through its subsidiaries. The dominant entity of the CD Projekt capital group.
The company existed under its original name in 1988–2011. In the 90s She was one of the largest manufacturers of PCs in Poland, then expanded its activity to the production of cash registers, providing integrated IT solutions for offices and large enterprises, and created one of the leading Polish online portals onet.pl. After the division and subsequent transformations of the capital structure, Optimus took over CDP Investment and focused almost exclusively on the production, location and distribution of computer games [3] [4] [5].
In 2020, CD Projekt was placed first in the ranking of the 100 largest Polish private companies [6]"
"The company was founded in 1988 as a private company Romana Kluski. From 1994 Optimus was listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The company was the largest manufacturer of computers in Poland. In 1996, it began publishing, under which the "Education and Entertainment" group was created,, focusing Optiums Bis (distributor of Ubisoft games, Activision, Axall, Condor, Merit, MindScape, SSI, ID Software, SCI and Warner), Optimus Nexus (producer of games and multimedia) and Optimus Pascal (producer of spolkin) and Optimus himself was a representative of Disney Interactive. In the years 2000–2002, the company's legal transformations took place, as a result of which it was finally divided into two separate business entities - Optimus and the Onet Group. On August 28, 2006, the Securities and Stock Exchange Commission decided to withdraw the company from the WSE. The reason was improper performance of information duties by the Company. However, the decision did not enter into force and Optimus remained on the stock exchange.
At the beginning of 2006, the headquarters of Optimus was moved from Nowy Sącz to Warsaw, And the installation of computers on the principle of outsourcing to the ABC Data plant. In the same year, the company also filed a claim for compensation in the amount of PLN 35 million for unlawful decisions of tax authorities of 2002, which, according to Optimus, led to the loss of reputation by the company, losses PLN 27 million and direct costs of tax proceedings in the amount of PLN 8 million [1].
On October 31, 2007, members of the management of Optimus, Piotr Lewandowski and Michał Lorenc, were detained by CBŚ regarding the controversial increase in capital in the company. On April 16, 2008, Lewandowski was again detained by the CBA on charges of removing money from the company [13].
On January 22, 2008, the Company submitted a bankruptcy application to the court with the possibility of concluding an agreement, but it was withdrawn after the public broadcast of the shares, of which some of the revenues (13, PLN 5 million) was allocated to cover the obligations. Another bankruptcy application was submitted by the company West, but the courts of both instances dismissed him [14].
Optimus is the creator of the largest Polish internet portal - Onet.pl. After the sale of shares in the company by its founder Roman Kluska, the website was transferred to the Onet daughter company, which was then taken over by the ITI group, and in 2012 it hit the hands of the Axel Springer Polska Group. The name Onet.pl comes from the word Optimusnet"
Suddenly Poland became too progressive for fucking Americans?

Spider-Man Day
How will you celebrate Spider-Man Day on August 1? It’s important to remember one thing: with great power comes great responsibility. Now, you, a Spider-Man fanatic, have all the power in the world to celebrate one of the most iconic comic-book superheroes of all time whichever way you want to, so don’t take this responsibility lightly. This is your gift and your curse!
Created by Steve Dikto and Stan Lee, Spider-Man is Marvel Comics most iconic character for the past 59 years. For all true fans of the web-slinger, August 1, 2023 is the day on which you can appreciate what Spider-Man has brought to your lives.
However, you chose to celebrate Spider-Man Day 2023 don’t forget to share your thoughts with us.
When is Spider-Man Day 2023?
“Spider-Man! Spider-Man! Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!” is celebrated on Spider-Man Day on August 1, 2023.
History of Spider-Man Day
Everyone loves Spider-Man. And how can we not? Spider-Man entered the comic-book universe in issue 15 of Marvel Comics’ “Amazing Fantasy” in August 1962 and has been a major player ever since. The groundbreaking story caught the attention of readers when it featured an awkward, antisocial teenager as its superhero — a description typically associated with sidekicks. But this bold move turned out to be a boon for creator Stan Lee, who touched the hearts of a generation of kids who felt lonely, rejected, or had difficulty making friends. Spider-Man proved that anyone can be a superhero and, even after being around for about 60 years, he’s still as popular as ever.
Spider-Man got his own comic series, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” in March 1963. The titular character rose to popularity and quickly became integral in the ever-expanding Marvel Universe, engaging with regularly featured characters like the Human Torch, the Incredible Hulk, and Daredevil. The supporting characters in the Spider-Man world were equally interactive and colorful, enthralling readers who developed soft spots for them. This includes J. Jonah Jameson, the anti-Spider-Man editor-in-chief for the “Daily Bugle” newspaper, Spider-Man’s love interests Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson, and costumed villains like Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin, and Venom.
Spider-Man became a fast-expanding franchise, his heroics no longer able to be contained in single monthly issues. Spidey’s frequent crossover storylines with other Marvel characters led to the creation of the bimonthly series “Marvel Team-Up” in March 1972, which ran for 150 issues. Spider-Man teamed up with nearly every high-profile superhero in the Marvel Universe in this ongoing series.
“Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man” was the fourth installment comic series of Spider-Man’s continuing adventures. It debuted in December 1976 and ended after 263 issues. One of the most memorable events of this era was Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson.
We all know Spider-Man is fast, but his momentum in the comic world was soon noticed by Hollywood as well. Sony Entertainment purchased the rights to Spider-Man, and brought him to the big screen in May 2002 with the movie “Spider-Man.” With Tobey Maguire playing the friendly neighborhood superhero, the Spider-Man movies paved the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the superhero movie genre. “Spider-Man 2” was released in 2004 and broke box-office records, followed by “Spider-Man 3” in 2007, which ended Director Sam Raimi’s trilogy. The franchise was rebooted five years later, with “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012, starring Andrew Garfield.
Next, Spider-Man made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the third act of “Captain America: Civil War” (2016). Young actor Tom Holland breathed life into the web-slinger, who had been neglected due to the ongoing legal issues and character rights between Sony Entertainment and Marvel Studios. The latest Marvel movies featuring Spider-Man are worldwide blockbusters “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019).

Spider-Man Day Activities
Have a Spider-Man movie marathon
Throw a Spider-Man party
Parkour!
Depending how far back in time you want to go and which producers/directors you prefer, you could easily spend an entire day watching movie adaptations of Spider-Man comics. Perhaps you and your friends could watch and compare the latest releases, both Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man and discuss which version is better.
Invite your friends over, decorate the house and get the silly string web-slinging devices ready 'cause it’s party time! To really make your party stand out, try some Spidey-themed food like deviled eggs with paprika shaken into the shape of a spider. To keep the adults happy, try making the Spider-Man cocktail mixed with cherry and raspberry liqueurs, tequila and a sprinkling of pop rocks.
Ever wanted to leap and fly like Spider-Man? While swinging through New York City with a series of webs isn’t quite realistic, the growing trend of parkour can be done, right here and now. A mix of gymnastics and dancing, building up your parkour skills means flipping, sliding and jumping through the city just like Spidey.
5 Super Facts About Spider-Man
Spider-Man was originally Fly-Man
The only spider people like
It’s in the name
Venom was born from fanfiction
Changing times
Initially, Stan Lee wanted to create a superhero based on a fly or insect.
Head of Marvel Comics, Martin Goodman disapproved of the concept of Spider-Man due to the fact that most people hate spiders.
Stan Lee specifically placed a hyphen in Spider-Man’s name to avoid confusion between ‘Spiderman’ and ‘Superman’ as the latter was rather popular at the time.
Spider-Man’s nemesis Venom was created as fan fiction, and purchased by Marvel for $220.
Spider-Man is the first independent teenage superhero who was not a sidekick to an adult superhero.

KODIAK, Alaska—At Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, the USCGC Stratton, a 418-foot national security cutter, was hemmed into port by a thin layer of ice that had formed overnight in the January cold. Named for the U.S. Coast Guard’s first female officer, Dorothy Stratton, the ship was not designed for ice; its home port is in Alameda, California. After serving missions in the Indo-Pacific, it was brought to Alaska because it was available.
Soon the sun would rise, and the ice would surely melt, the junior officers surmised from the weather decks. The commanding officer nevertheless approved the use of a local tugboat to weave in front of the cutter, breaking up the wafer-like shards of ice as the Stratton steamed away from shore and embarked toward the Bering Sea.
In the last decade, as melting ice created opportunities for fishing and extraction, the Arctic has transformed from a zone of cooperation to one of geopolitical upheaval, where Russia, China, India, and Turkey, among others, are expanding their footprints to match their global ambitions. But the United States is now playing catch-up in a region where it once held significant sway.
One of the Coast Guard’s unofficial mottos is “We do more with less.” True to form, the United States faces a serious shortage of icebreaker ships, which are critical for performing polar missions, leaving national security cutters and other vessels like the Stratton that are not ice-capable with an outsized role in the country’s scramble to compete in the high north. For the 16 days I spent aboard the Stratton this year, it was the sole Coast Guard ship operating in the Bering Sea, conducting fishery inspections aboard trawlers, training with search and rescue helicopter crews, and monitoring the Russian maritime border.
Although the Stratton’s crew was up to this task, their equipment was not. A brief tour aboard the cutter shed light on the Coast Guard’s operational limitations and resource constraints. Unless Washington significantly shifts its approach, the Stratton will remain a microcosm of the United States’ journey in the Arctic: a once dominant force that can no longer effectively assert its interests in a region undergoing rapid transformation.
During the Cold War, the United States invested in Alaska as a crucial fixture of the country’s future. Of these investments, one of the most significant was the construction of the Dalton Highway in 1974, which paved the way for the controversial Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the U.S. entry as a major player in the global oil trade. Recognizing Alaska’s potential as a linchpin of national defense, leaders also invested heavily in the region’s security. In 1957, the United States began operating a northern network of early warning defense systems called the Distant Early Warning Line, and in 1958, it founded what became known as the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, such exigencies seemed excessive. The north once again became a domain for partnership among Arctic countries, a period that many call “Arctic exceptionalism”—or, as the Norwegians put it, “high north, low tension.”
But after the turn of the millennium, under President Vladimir Putin, Russia took a more assertive stance in the Arctic, modernizing Cold War-era military installations and increasing its testing of hypersonic munitions. In a telling display in 2007, Russian divers planted their national flag on the North Pole’s seabed. Russia wasn’t alone in its heightened interest, and soon even countries without Arctic territory wanted in on the action. China expanded its icebreaker fleet and sought to fund its Polar Silk Road infrastructure projects across Scandinavia and Greenland (though those efforts were blocked by Western intervention). Even India recently drafted its first Arctic strategy, while Turkey ratified a treaty giving its citizens commercial and recreational access to Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.
Over the past decade, the United States lagged behind, focusing instead on the challenges posed to its interests in the Middle East, the South China Sea, and Ukraine. Its Arctic early warning system became outdated. Infrastructure off the coast of Alaska that climatologists use to predict typhoons remained uninstalled, seen as a luxury that the state and federal governments could not afford. In 2020, an engine fire in the sole Coast Guard Arctic icebreaker nearly scuttled a plan to retrieve scientific instruments and data from vessels moored in the Arctic Ocean. Two years later, a Defense Department inspector general report revealed substantial issues with the structural integrity of runways and barracks of U.S. bases across the Arctic and sub-Arctic.
Until recently, U.S. policymakers had little interest in reinstating lost Arctic competence. Only in the last three years—once Washington noticed the advances being made by China and Russia—have lawmakers and military leaders begun to formulate a cohesive Arctic strategy, and it shows.
On patrol with the Stratton, the effects of this delay were apparent. The warm-weather crew struggled to adapt to the climate, having recently returned from warmer Indo-Pacific climates. The resilient group deiced its patrol boats and the helicopter pad tie-downs with a concoction conceived through trial and error. “Happy lights,” which are supposed to boost serotonin levels, were placed around the interior of the ship to help the crew overcome the shorter days. But the crew often turned the lights off; with only a few hours of natural daylight and few portholes on the ship through which to view it anyway, the lights did not do much.
The Coast Guard is the United States’ most neglected national defense asset. It is woefully under-resourced, especially in the Arctic and sub-Arctic, where systemic issues are hindering U.S. hopes of being a major power.
First and foremost is its limited icebreaker fleet. The United States has only two working icebreakers. Of these two, only one, the USCGC Healy, is primarily deployed to the Arctic; the other, the USCGC Polar Star, is deployed to Antarctica. By comparison, Russia, which has a significant Arctic Ocean shoreline, has more than 50 icebreakers, while China has two capable of Arctic missions and at least one more that will be completed by next year.
Coast Guard and defense officials have repeatedly testified before Congress that the service requires at least six polar icebreakers, three of which would be as ice-capable as the Healy, which has been in service for 27 years. The program has suffered nearly a decade of delays because of project mismanagement and a lack of funds. As one former diplomat told me, “A strategy without budget is hallucination.” The first boat under the Polar Security Cutter program was supposed to be delivered by this year. The new estimated arrival date, officials told me, will more likely be 2030.
“Once we have the detailed design, it will be several years—three plus—to begin, to get completion on that ship,” Adm. Linda Fagan, the commandant of the Coast Guard, told Congress last April. “I would give you a date if I had one.”
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has long warned that the U.S. government and military, including the Coast Guard, have made serious miscalculations in their Arctic efforts. For one, the Coast Guard’s acquisition process for new boats is hampered by continual changes to design and a failure to contract competent shipbuilders. Moreover, the GAO found in a 2023 report that discontinuity among Arctic leadership in the State Department and a failure by the Coast Guard to improve its capability gaps “hinder implementation of U.S. Arctic priorities outlined in the 2022 strategy.”
Far more than national security is at stake. The Arctic is a zone of great economic importance for the United States. The Bering Sea alone provides the United States with 60 percent of its fisheries, not to mention substantial oil and natural gas revenue. An Arctic presence is also important for achieving U.S. climate goals. Helping to reduce or eliminate emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and black carbon in the Arctic protects carbon-storing habitats such as the tundra, forests, and coastal marshes.
Capt. Brian Krautler, the Stratton’s commanding officer, knows these problems well. Having previously served on Arctic vessels, he was perhaps the ideal officer to lead the Stratton on this unfamiliar mission. After a boarding team was recalled due to heavy seas and an overiced vessel, Krautler lamented the constraints under which he was working. “We are an Arctic nation that doesn’t know how to be an Arctic nation,” he said.
The Stratton reached its first port call in Unalaska, a sleepy fishing town home to the port of Dutch Harbor. Signs around Unalaska declare, “Welcome to the #1 Commercial Fishing Port in the United States.” The port is largely forgotten by Washington and federal entities in the region, but there is evidence all around of its onetime importance to U.S. national security: Concrete pillboxes from World War II line the roads, and trenches mark the hillocks around the harbor.
As Washington pivoted away from the Arctic, Alaska and its Native communities have become more marginalized. Vincent Tutiakoff, the mayor of Unalaska, is particularly frustrated by the shift. Even though Washington made promises to grant greater access to federal resources to support Indigenous communities, it has evaded responsibility for environmental cleanup initiatives and failed to adequately address climate change.
Federal and state governments have virtually abandoned all development opportunities in Unalaska, and initiatives from fish processing plants to a geothermal energy project have been hindered by the U.S. Energy Department’s sluggish response to its Arctic Energy Office’s open call for funding opportunities. “I don’t know what they’re doing,” Tutiakoff said of state and federal agencies.
Making matters worse, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is moving ahead to make the northern Alaska city of Nome the site of the nation’s next deep-water port rather than build infrastructure near Unalaska, the gateway to the American Arctic and the port of call for the few patrol ships tasked with its security. It seems that the decision was based on the accessibility needs of cruise ships; Unalaska is not necessarily a vacation destination.
By failing to invest in places like Unalaska, the United States is hobbling its own chances for growth. The region could be home to major advances in the green energy transition or cloud computing storage, but without investment this potential will be lost.
In the last year, the United States has tried to claw back some of what it has lost to atrophy. It has inched closer to confirming the appointment of Mike Sfraga as the first U.S. ambassador-at-large to the Arctic. In March, the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy participated in NATO exercises in the Arctic region of Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The U.S. Defense Department hosted an Arctic dialogue in January ahead of the anticipated release of a revised Arctic strategy, and the State Department signed a flurry of defense cooperation agreements with Nordic allies late last year.
Nevertheless, it has a long way to go. Tethered to the docks at Dutch Harbor, the weather-worn Stratton reflected the gap between the United States’ Arctic capabilities and its ambitions. Its paint was chipped by wind and waves, and a generator needed a replacement part from California. Much of the crew had never been to Alaska before. On the day the ship pulled into port, the crew milled about, gawking at a bald eagle that alighted on the bow and taking advantage of their few days in port before setting out again into hazardous conditions.
“I know we’re supposed to do more with less,” a steward aboard the Stratton told me, “but it’s hard.”

Yesterday evening it was really nice to have the opportunity to THINK FANDOM THOUGHTS while sitting in front of my gaming machine (which is in my office thus not the coziest place but not terrible either, although it is cooooolllldddd in my home office during winter especially once the sun goes down).
I still need to keep plugging away at that 4 timelines across 4 different thedas world states (plus various stray OCs who just exist for reasons). Still need to finish setting up all of my old that I used 10+ years ago. Still need to *eventually* find all of my old saves on old laptops and move them to my current machine. (not sure I'll have time to do this until next year).
That said, I love the cosy nature of playing video games on my steam deck, even if that means using an external (small) keyboard and mouse for old games that require KBM. But, ugh, virtual photography is not the best on the Steam Deck even with the faster OLED one. And mods don't always work. I have had a good hit rate with installing mods on the Steam Deck but it hasn't been perfect.
As of recent I have lots of fanfic writing themselves in my head. But, this is a terrible time of year for me: absolutely all of November and December are bad. I might have a little time here and there to start jotting fanfic down, starting end of next week but now is just ... hard. Really hard to get into the zone for writing when too many important life/work/family/personal things that are exceedingly time critical MUST BE DONE by yesterday. -_-
Once 2025 comes rolling in I want to return to fanfic writing as a regular creative hobby but do it differently from before, when I last left off.
When I stopped writing fic, I had quite a few LONG multi-chapter projects going ranging from fat novellas to novels to omgwtfWAR&PEACE?!
Working on long fic but posting it piecemeal on LiveJournal actually worked well for me back in 2007-2011. When AO3 came online, I just used it as an archive for finished fic. But once AO3 was the only place for posting fic, idk. It wasn't working for me then. Which is actually why I have a lot of fic squirreled away in weird locations like sideblogs here on tumblr from 10 years ago.
But now? (And how is it 2025 in, like 3+ weeks? fml)
Right now, my desire to structure a novel that isn't for professional publishing is next to nil. Instead:
Hello short fic! Hello novellas of reasonable length! Big hello to flash fic!
These days I am far more interested in using some of AO3's structure --- re-orderable series of works vs multi-chapter works --- to create new works that I can shove into their proper place in an ever growing "timeline" via a series.
Anyhow. That is what is on my mind. That and cleaning up my fannish spaces such that scattered fic worth keeping ends up being archived on AO3.
But first on my to do list: Update scrivener on my iPad (my primary writing machine these days when I'm not at my desk) and make sure all of my OLD OLD OLD OLD OLD scrivener files from literally a decade ago open. Because if not, I need to do the necessary conversions on a real computer and all of that needs to be done, like, yesterday.
(The next handful of days will be overwhelming)

triggered by the Amars calling succession to the Presidency by Cabinet officers, rather than the House Speaker, “apostolic succession”
the succession to Rome is by election of the College of Cardinals??? it doesn’t just go to the favorite of the last Pontifex???
sure, Christ picked the Apostles, and the Apostles picked the bishops for particular seats, cf. Tertull. Praescr. Haer. 32; Iren. Adv. Haer. 3.3.1, but ever since the proper succession to any particular seat has been by election
see, e.g., Jerome, Dialogue Against the Luciferians, ch. 11 (translated by Peter Norton, Episcopal Elections, 250–600: Hierarchy and Popular Will in Late Antiquity (Oxford, 2007), 5):
The truth is, the men who are elected to the episcopate come from the bosom of Plato and Aristophanes. How many can you find among them who are not fully versed in these writers? Indeed everyone, whoever he may be, is ordained at the present day from among the literate class and makes it his study not how to seek out the marrow of Scripture, but how to tickle the ears of the people with the flowers of rhetoric.
Cyprian, Ep. 55.8.4 (Norton 13):
Cornelius was made bishop by the judgment of God and his Christ; by the testimony of almost all the clergy; by the vote of all the people who were present [de plebis quae tunc adfuit suffragio], and by the committee of senior bishops and good men.
cf. Cyprian, Ep. 67.3 (Norton 15):
the people definitely has the power either to choose worthy bishops or to reject unworthy ones [quando ipsa <plebs> maxime habeat potestatem vel eligendi dignos sacerdotes vel indignos recusandi]
Ambrose, Ep. 63.2 (Norton 13):
rightly it is believed that he whom all have asked for [as bishop] is chosen by the judgment of God [merito creditum quod divino esset electus iudicio, quem omnes postulavissent]
Apostolic Constitutions 8.4.2 (Norton 24):
and so, I, Peter say that a bishop to be ordained is to be, as we have all already commanded, without blame in all respects; a chosen person, picked by the whole people; and when he is named and approved, let the people assemble, with the presbyters and bishops that are present, on the Lord’s day; and let them give their consent. And let the principal of the bishops ask the presbytery and people whether this is the person whom they desire as their ruler.
And if they agree, let the bishop ask further whether he has a good testimony from all men as to his worthiness for such a great and glorious authority; whether all things relating to his piety towards God be right; whether justice towards men has been observed by him; whether the affairs of his family have been well-managed by him; whether he has been irreproachable in the course of his life.
And if all the assembly together act according to truth, and not according to prejudice, and witness that he is such a one, let them the third time, as before God the Judge, and Christ, the Holy Ghost being also present, as well as all the holy and ministering spirits, ask again whether he be truly worthy of this ministry, so that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
And if they agree the third time that he is worthy, let all be asked for their vote; and when they all give it willingly, let them be heard.
And then, after order has been called, being made, let one of the principal bishops, together with two others, stand near together, the rest of the bishops and presbyters praying silently, and the deacons holding the divine Gospels open upon the head of him that is to be ordained.
Leo, Ep. 10.6 (Norton 38):
Let he who is to be in charge of everybody be chosen by everybody. [Qui praefuturus omnibus est, ab omnibus eligatur.]
Leo, Ep. 14.5 (Norton 43):
When it comes to the choice of a bishop, let him be installed whom with harmonious agreement the clergy and people have requested; and where the votes of the parties are split among diVerent candidates, the future bishop will be he who, in the metropolitan’s judgment, is more deserving and has greater support, so that no bishop is ordained to those who do not want him or who have not requested him; and so no city which is not allowed to have the bishop it wanted will either despise or hate an unwanted bishop, and become less pious than is proper.
Cod. Iust. 1.3.41 (Norton 34):
with this law we ordain that whenever in any city there should be a vacancy for the bishop’s throne, the inhabitants should make a resolution concerning three candidates, men of sound faith and pious habits . . . so that from these the most suitable might be promoted to the bishopric.
apparently Gratian helped kill the tradition by mangling a letter from Pope Celestine, dated 428. see Kenneth Pennington, The Golden Age of Episcopal Elections, 1100–1300, 35 Bull. Medieval Canon L. 243 (2017)
Celestine’s letter originally read:
No bishop should be given to an unwilling flock. The consent and desires of the clergy, laymen, and senate are required.
[Nullus invitis detur episcopus; cleri, plebis et ordinis consensus et desiderium requiratur.]
but Gratian edited that down to its final sentence, and extracted from it the black-letter rule that “the people don’t elect their bishop”:
The people do not elect [their bishop], but consent to the election.
[Plebi non est eligere, set electioni consentire.]
The consent and desires of the clergy and people are required.
[Cleri plebis consensus et desiderium requiratur.]
that isn't what it says, Gratian!
contra, e.g., Lumen Gentium 3.20–22, which reads the Fathers for all they’re worth and, not finding its own doctrine in them, cites to them with a “cf”, and even has the guff to cite the Apostolic Tradition (ca. 215), which reads, in Botte’s edition:
and in Dix’s edition:
Romish guy, wise: “electus ab omni populo”? “consentientibus omnibus”? what could that possibly mean? ....... probably means the Pope picks them ......
it's an election, dumbass!

The abandoned Warner & Swasey Observatory, constructed by Worchester Warner and Ambrose Swasey as a gift for Case School of Applied Science.
Worchester Warner and Ambrose Swasey founded the Warner & Swasey Company in 1880 and manufactured telescopes and other precision tools. Warner and Swasey became trustees of the Case School of Applied Science and constructed an observatory for the school as a gift.
Designed by the architectural firm Walker & Weeks, the observatory was built between 1918 and 1920 at the cost of $87,000. The original wing on the south end consisted of a copper dome atop a cylindrical brick tower for a 9½-inch refractor, which was relocated from the backyard of Warner and Swasey’s mansions. The new facility also included two four-inch transits, a zenith telescope, and two Riefler clocks.
The new observatory was dedicated at 2:30 p.m. on October 12, 1920. Dr. W.W. Campbell, one of the most noted astronomers of the world and director of the Lick Observatory, gave the opening address.
In October 1940, a new wing to the observatory was completed, which was outfitted with a library, lecture hall, and a new 24-inch Burrell Schmidt telescope from Warner & Swasey that was installed in the spring of 1941 at the cost of $127,000.
Light pollution began to impact the dark skies that initially attracted Warner and Swasey A new $200,000 observatory, Nassau Astronomical Station, was completed 30 miles to the east in Geauga County on September 7, 1957. The Burrell Schmidt telescope was relocated to the new facility. To compensate for the relocation, a 36-inch telescope was installed.
An enlargement of the library and office space were completed in 1963.
In 1978, the Astronomy Department at Case Western Reserve University made a deal with the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy to build a new observatory at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. The Burrell Schmidt telescope was moved from the Geauga County observatory was relocated in May 1979, and the 36-inch reflector from the facility was moved to Nassau in 1980.
Public night lectures, which were open to the public, were relocated to the Museum of Natural History’s Murch Auditorium in 1979.
After the reflector was removed from the facility, the building was used for offices for Case Western. In 1982, the five remaining faculty members who were stationed in the building were moved to the main campus of Case Western. The structure was sold in 1983 to a partnership controlled by Alfred Quarles for the television outfit, TBA, Inc. for $130,000.
The abandoned observatory was sold at a foreclosure auction on September 6, 2005, to Nayyir Al Mahdi and his girlfriend, Stacey Stoutemire, for $115,000. The couple had planned on restoring the building into a residence. The plans were scrapped after the owner was convicted of mortgage fraud and sent to prison in 2007.

Hey why whi who is josh hutchensin i sont fucking know

Joshua Ryan Hutcherson was born on October 12, 1992 in Union, Kentucky to Michelle Fightmaster, who worked for Delta Air Lines, and Chris Hutcherson, an EPA analyst. He has one younger brother, Connor Hutcherson. From the age of four, Josh knew that he wanted to be an actor. In order to pursue his goal, Josh and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was nine-years-old.In 2002, Josh landed his first acting role in the TV film, House Blend (2002), with Amy Yasbeck, Dan Cortese and Sean Faris. The same year, Josh was cast in the pilot, Becoming Glen (2002), but Fox did not order it to series (though, several years later, it was reconfigured as the short-lived series, The Winner (2007), starring Rob Corddry, and co-written/produced by Seth MacFarlane). Toward the end of 2002, Josh appeared on an episode of ER (1994).Josh made his big-screen debut, in 2003, with a bit part in the Oscar-nominated American Splendor (2003). His career began its measured ascent in 2005 with a supporting slot as one of Will Ferrell's kids in Kicking & Screaming (2005), a co-starring role in the indie hit Little Manhattan (2005), and another co-starring role in Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005), which was originally conceived as a sequel to Jumanji (1995). Despite underperforming at the box office, "Zathura" helped earned for Josh his first Young Artist Award for "Leading Young Actor".2006 saw bigger returns for Josh's burgeoning film career with a role as one of Robin Williams' sons in the modest hit, RV (2006). The following year, he landed his first breakthrough role in Bridge to Terabithia (2007), the kid-approved adaptation of Katherine Paterson's novel that co-starred AnnaSophia Robb, whose career was also taking off at this time.Josh starred as Brendan Fraser's nephew in another family-film hit, Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008), and he had a smaller role in the Crash-like drama, Fragments (2008), though by now his face and name were being used in movie-marketing materials. Though it wasn't a hit, Josh's character in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009) served as a major plot device early in the story. In 2010, Josh co-starred in the critically-acclaimed film, The Kids Are All Right (2010), alongside Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, and Mia Wasikowska. The film received several awards and four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Josh's performance as the youngest child in a family, led by two mothers, earned him acclaim from audiences and the industry, alike. Josh followed up with an expanded role in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012), which saw Dwayne Johnson take over as the main character from Brendan Fraser. Between the star power and the allure of 3D, the sequel was a worldwide hit and a third installment is in development. With the announcement that he would portray the beloved "Peeta Mellark" in The Hunger Games (2012), the film adaptation of the best-selling novel written by Suzanne Collins, Josh became an instant celebrity. In the wake of the movie's massive worldwide success, Detention (2011), a horror/comedy that Josh made before "The Hunger Games", was released. Josh was also an executive producer on that feature. Before Josh reprises his role as "Peeta" in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), we will see him in the long-delayed remake of Red Dawn (2012); the omnibus 7 Days in Havana (2011) (aka "7 Days in Havana") (Josh's segment was directed by Benicio Del Toro); The Forger (2012) opposite Lauren Bacall, Alfred Molina, and Hayden Panettiere; and the animated Epic (2013) from Ice Age (2002) co-director (and voice of "Scrat"), Chris Wedge.

Ocean's Thirteen (2007)

Inexplicably, the Ocean’s franchise didn’t sink into oblivion after the sewage that was Ocean’s Twelve. This third chapter in the series fares much better than its predecessor but never reaches the level of the original (neither the original original or the 2001 remake). Still, as another installment, it does offer the remaining fans more of what they want to see, which is something.
After Reuben (Elliott Gould) loses his investment in a new hotel-casino to his business partner, Willy Bank (Al Pacino), he suffers a heart attack and becomes bedridden. Danny (George Clooney) and the rest of the Ocean Club decide to get even by ruining Bank and his new establishment.
If you’re not endeared to the Ocean’s crew, this plot will be an uphill battle. "Boo hoo. Poor Reuben is so upset he’s not making millions off this gaudy casino that he’s become catatonic. Guess it’s up to his buddies to get revenge on his behalf instead of just convincing the proper authorities that he was strongarmed into signing a contract?" Towards the end of the film, the crew’s old nemesis, Terry Benedict (Andy García, whose character is brought back under dubious pretenses), sees millions of his money donated to charity without his consent. I wonder if any of the cash the protagonists end up swiping from Banks would’ve gone anywhere except their pockets had they not had a score to settle. While some of this is mitigated by the fact that Willy Bank is a jerk, what we're seeing feels like a whole lot of “the 1%’s problems”. There isn’t a love plot to make us believe this is about anything but money unless you count the brotherly love between the Ocean’s crew. Even that seems like a stretch.
In the first movie and even in the second in a “sure, whatever”, kind of way, it made sense for these 11 people (we’ll get to that number in a moment) to join forces. Now? It seems overly optimistic to think the random Chinese acrobat who doesn’t speak English would put himself at risk as he does here. Now to be fair, this story makes much better use of its characters than Twelve did. No one gets stuffed into a bag and shipped off to nowhere halfway through, for example. Everyone has a role to play and it works though it should be noted that neither Julia Roberts nor Catherine Zeta-Jones return.
You’re wondering who the two new members of the crew are. One is the aforementioned Benedict, who plays the role of a benefactor. The other is… Eddie Izzard as Roman Nagel. I think. The motif of adding a new expert to the crew with each sequel has basically disappeared, and for good reason. This series can barely handle the people it has on its roster. Adding more is becoming increasingly problematic but it’s also necessary. See, “The Bank” has insane security measures, the kind no one in their right might would even try to circumvent. On the one hand, this makes for exciting scenes that make you wonder how the lock will get cracked. On the other, it makes the plot feel manufactured. For example, there's this super secure room that contains expensive jewelry. The plan to get in? Have Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon) and his phoney-looking rubber nose seduce Bank’s right-hand woman, Abigail Sponder (Ellen Barkin). With the help of some magic pheromones, she’ll get so hot and bothered she’ll have no choice but to bring Linus into the only room in the whooooole building that's guaranteed to be deserted. Apparently, there are cameras in the bathrooms, the closets and her private office. It’s a horrible subplot made unintentionally comical by the fact that nothing happens between her and Linus. The movie teases nudity for at least 15 minutes. Ellen Barkin's chest is ALMOST falling out of her dress for so long it’s ridiculous. I thought she was slobbering at the mouth for some man meat but she’s not even taking off her clothes? What’s going on here?!
I’ve been mostly bad-mouthing Ocean's Thirteen because the film is constantly on the brink of crumbling under its own weight. I will still call it a “good” sequel because fans of this series will be happy with it. You hate the bad guy, there are enough laughs to keep you smiling consistently and the con is so complicated it’s fun to see all the pieces coming together. All of the actors are obviously having a great time. I’m in no hurry to watch it again but if you love love love the first, you didn’t mind the second and you want to know if you should watch the third, then I say “sure”. I say this despite feeling like twice was too many for me. (April 29, 2022)
