* My hubby found this hummingbird nest in our backyard a while back and I've kept it in remembrance of my Mom who passed in 2018. She loved Hummers and would keep a feeder outside her living room window so she could watch them feed as she sat in her favorite chair. I miss my Mom, yet I feel her all around me. I know she's near because the hummingbirds are here to remind me. The end of a year always causes me to pause and reflect and introspection helps me stay grounded. * For me, instinctual stitching is like finger painting. I remember the joy I felt while exploring the possibilities of painting with my hands. Now I do the same thing with my stitching. The exploratory journey of the needle and thread making it's way through the fabric without a plan or expectation of what it will become is inspiring to me and a profound expression of my artistry. I encourage you to make something if you feel the need, don't worry about whether it's good or not, just do it for you. The enjoyment of working with your hands and watching something come into being, without judgement, is magical. * I have many "irons in the fire," as my Pop used to say. Instead, maybe I should say, I have too many threaded needles on my pincushion. On my table today, a stenciled, painted and stitched piece of muslin atop an abstract painting, I'm still working on em both. * Here are a couple detail pics of my Peace Quilt, I'm using #instinctualstitching to put my quilt together and as embellishment. I started this little blanket of comfort on February 24th when Ukraine was invaded. Besides everything else disturbing that's been going on, I needed something to keep my hands busy and my mind focused on the stitching rather than the news. It's been a great help to me, that's why I call it the Peace Quilt. I've always wanted to take quilting courses, but the precise cutting of fabric was daunting to me. It seemed a little too close to trying to attain perfection, which you know isn't my thing. So I decided to make my own quilt without planning or expectations and I absolutely love the process. I feel it's a good illustration of all the chaotic feelings I was having. * I've been taking what I thought were just a few days off to stitch and rest. I'm amused at how time goes by unnoticed by me when I'm wrapped up in threads and fabrics. When I'm instinctually stitching, it feels as though time ceases to exists. It's a lovely feeling. I'm a #littlebookworm getting lost in the stitched and painted pages of my #littlebooks filled with color, #textures and #instinctualstitching Here is a little book I made in 2019. I love my red painted fabric cuz red is my favorite color and the white #instinctualstitching makes a beautiful contrast to the red.
