I figured I would make this just in case anyone else discovered this and hates it as much as I do.

I got a new laptop over the holidays and was horrified to discover that they replaced my right ctrl key with a copilot button. Most people probably wouldn't be super affected by this, but unfortunately, I work with code and I use that button kind of a lot

So! Today I want slogging through the microsoft support forum about this exact issue. It took quite a bit of digging and some trial and error, but I have figured it out! Below the cut is a guide to getting your right ctrl key back if you really want it

The bad news is that there are 2 relatively minor sacrifices that come with this solution. You'll se what I mean as I get further into the instructions

Step 1 is to get the microsoft powertoys app from the app store- it's free and is probably safer than getting some sketchy software from the dregs of the internet.

Step 2 is to got to "keyboard manager" (don't forget to enable it) and then then to "remap a key"

Step 3 Select the copilot button either with the select button and tapping the key or using the dropdown and selecting F23 (same key). You will go to the other side of the screen where it says "send" and use the dropdown menu. Scroll all the way to the top and select disable

This is the only solutions for this part of it because while the key does technically work as a ctrl key, you can't use it alongside any other keys as I learned during this process

Step 4 Add another key remap. This is the first sacrifice you'll have to make, but at least with my computer usage, I don't really use this key much. You'll select the RIGHT alt key and remap it to be the new right ctrl. You'll also need to use the dropdown for this. Scroll up for a little bit and you'll find the entry

Step 5 This is technically more of a note than a step, but it's the other sacrifice that comes with this process. In order to actually be able to use the key with its new function, you have to keep the powertoys app running. This drawback is mentioned on the powertoys info page thing so at least there's that I guess

From there you are free to go forth with your newly recovered right ctrl key! And the only sacrifices were the right alt key and a little bit of your ram. Tbh I just got really tired of having to use both of my hands for a command I used to be able to do with one which is what started all of this. You can also use most of these instructions to just straight up disable your copilot key if you want.

Hi! I recently disabled the stupid Copilot button on my Lenovo laptop and it made me so happy. You can try doing a search for "Remap or disable 'Copilot' chatbot key on new Windows keyboards"- that should take you to an answers.microsoft.com page with some not too complicated instructions to turn it off.

i've said this like a quadrillion times already but damn i hate the way the minecraft community's been obfuscating the game's mechanics for the past few years.

like, controls. people used to just call in-game actions by their names (or at least something vaguely resembling them). but somewhere along the line, they stopped. they stopped calling things by their names and started calling them by their default keybinds. they don't crouch or sneak any more. they ""shift"". they don't go into third person view any more. they go into """"F5 mode"""". like, i could *maybe* understand saying 'right click' instead of 'use item', since 'right click' is an already accepted term in other contexts. but saying 'Q' instead of 'drop item' *while talking about how you've remapped your drop key* is fucking piss behavior. most people don't even fucking play with a keyboard!!

but, onto the thing i'm actually here to post about:

can we stop conflating mods and behavior packs? they are not the same thing. well, i mean, technically, behavior packs are mods, on account of modifying the game. but they're mods in the way that resource packs are mods. because they're basically resource packs. all a resource pack or a behavior pack is is a collection of data that the minecraft engine is programmed to interpret in a specific way. contrast this with actual Mods, which are sequences of instructions and programming that require a mod loader to insert into the game's existing instructions and programming.

if y'all can differentiate between mods and data packs then you can definitely differentiate between mods and behavior packs. a 'behavior pack' is literally just what bedrock edition calls a data pack.

and for the love of FUCK, stop calling it fucking pocket edition! you are only confusing people!!!!!

Playtesting Feedback

(Asteroids - Week 7)

Game Progression

One key thing players mentioned in the first room of the first level was the lack of instruction. Some players may not know about the bullet type switching feature. To address this, I added a small tutorial (mainly words explaining how to move and shoot). The level layout was also intentionally made so that the first enemy encounter was a yellow alien which corresponds to the players starting bullet type (yellow). The following room contains red aliens, encouraging the player to use the bullet switch function.

Another thing was after defeating the first enemy in the first room, players didn't know what to do next. Although you could somewhat see that part of the room's wall was missing (therefore you could go through), this may not be obvious to other players. To fix this, adding an indicator (i.e. and arrow pointing to go to the next room) will explicitly guide the player.

Movement

Some people had a hard time with the arcade style controls of the game. They have suggested to have the mouse be used to aim instead. However, it was intentional that the games controls be slightly hard to manipulate as it gives the player more of a challenge.

Other players just wanted to be able to change the controls from arrow keys to the popular WASD scheme. To answer this, I would add an option to allow players to remap the current controls, granting them more customisability in the game.

Unintentional Bugs

There were a few bugs that were noticed by some playtesters. The biggest one was that whenever the player lost the game and pressed the replay option, they would start with only 1 life left. This, however, was an easy fix. I just looked over the fact that the player lives was a global variable (so it can carry over to other levels/scenes). To fix this, I just made it so that whenever the player replays the game, they get all of their lives back.

Platformer - Playtesting Analysis

Playtesting is an important part of the 'Iterative Process' of game design, in which Player experience goals are set, ideas are formulated, and they are then tested. In Fullerton's book, in order to make a good game, playtesting should occur at each step in the development process of a game, and should be performed as frequently as possible to keep making sure the player experience goals are being met as the game develops.

Because of this, I have received interviews from six individuals who play tested my game, 2 of which are naïve to game development and 4 who are current developers. A summary of their feedback can be seen below:

The entire point to playtesting is to determine whether the current state of the game is meeting player experience goals. If it's not, then what has currently been developed needs to be changed in order to meet those goals.

In my case, my player experience goals were to recreate the feeling of discovery and intelligence associated with overcoming puzzles and utilising unique mechanics to do so, so if players find themselves bored of the game due to lack of challenge or find the key mechanic too mundane then in order to improve my game I need to look at which parts are going wrong, and either add to them and refine them, change them in some way, or remove them entirely. This is why Fullerton suggests playtesting mechanics and getting feedback as soon as possible, even (and especially!) in the prototyping stage; There's no point in developing an entire game with levels, soundtracks and assets, only to find out that the core mechanic you've built the game around is detested by players and have to start from scratch (or worse yet, publish it anyway because you've spent too much time and resources on what you've already made!).

However, from the feedback I received from my play testers, it appears as though I have been able to meet my goals as most players report that their high moments from playing the game were when they discovered new things, and the satisfaction they got from being able to use what they'd learnt to complete the levels. All players enjoyed the core platform fabricating mechanic as well, and really enjoyed the challenge that the inhibiting walls, additional upgrades and enemies presented.

The flipside of this positive feedback from playtesting is, of course, suggestions for improvements, of which I encouraged my testers to provide in their reports. Major future improvement steps players have suggested include remapping the controls to improve the smoothness and overall 'feel' of the game, as well as improving instructions within the game in order to reduce confusion and just generally refining the platform fabricating mechanic and movement. Suggestions for things to add to the game included simply more of what was already there, with players requesting additional levels, enemy types and platform upgrades. There was also a suggestion to incorporate a timer to emphasise the tension surrounding the premise of the game, however that is an additional mechanic that will need to undergo further playtesting after implementation to ensure it still fits with the player experience goals.

Overall it appears that, based on this feedback, if I can refine and expand upon the things I have already made in this project I will be able to create a game that many people will enjoy.

SWORDS/DAGGER: Based off of Paladin's Dueling Swords, but heavily modified, new weapons are available for use by sims teen and older. All swords and the dagger may perform the following actions: ● Challenge: This action allows two sims to spar with swords. They will continue to do so until they reach motive failure, but the action can be interrupted at any time. ● Practice: This action allows a sim to practice their sword work and footing and thus gain mechanical (dexterity) skill. Note that the sword will “disappear” from where it has been placed with this action, representing a sim has it in use. ● Kill: This action allows the current selected sim to have a brief fight with another sim and the target sim will die at the end of the fight. Use with caution, death is always the outcome for the target sim. ● Grab: Standard Grab function that adds a sword into a sim’s inventory. It is enabled for visitors, as well as children. So deliveries can be made, or thievery can happen. The grab in non-autonomous however. All Swords use NixedSims Accessory Swords from her Training Dummies V3 set, and retain their original GUIDs. If you have these already in your game you can delete them from this set. Each Sword utilizes 5 packages. All swords share the FIGHT AREA package but must have their own Object, Accessory, and Actions Packages. Different swords cannot share the latter 3.

IDOLS: Models picked based on aspects they can represent rather than any real world religion. These objects are a combination of the available actions found on KevinHope's Cross and Rebecah's Bible. Each comes in gold/silver/bronze recolors. ● Azura ● Dibella ● Mara ● Meridia ● Mermaid ● Watcher

WASH BASINS: Two items for hygiene and cleanliness. The tub is enabled for pets, and the sink is a place anywhere style. ● Metal Washtub - Bathtub ● Basin Sink

ARMOR: These smithed items can be sold to a sim who can then use it for an actual clothing grant to their wardrobe. It is one time use, thus incentivising a smith to continue to make more. COOKWARE/KITCHEN UTENSIL SETS: A set of items that when opened places single items into a sim's inventory. These items are considered inventory tools for future stations, as well as decorative slotted items. ● Cookware Set Contains: Stock Pot, Gratin Pan, Pancake Frying Pan, Roasting Pan, Sauce Pan, Saute Pan, and Wok. ● Kitchen Utensil Set Contains: Spatula, Dipper, Slotted Dipper, Ladle, Large Fork, and Whisk.

TABLEWARE SET/PLACE SETTINGS: A set of flatware, charger, and drinking vessel to set upon your sims tables. Sims will place their bowl/plate on the charger and eat. Each set has an invisible recolor of the drinking vessel/flatware so that they can be hidden. With everything but the charger plate hidden, players can decorate around the plate using five different slots with tableware or items of their choosing. Comes in three styles; Lower Class, Middle Class, and Upper Class. Each set has a different drinking vessel and is made of a different metal.

BONUS ROUND ARMOR STANDS: You can’t have your armor just floating there in the air (unless it’s an enchanted shop of course) so you have to have something to put it on. Some basic wooden armor stands that are found in the catalog under Surfaces > Shelves. The Armor stand has two slots to pop in Armor of your choice and a sword of your choice. The Chainmail Shirt stand had one slot. CHAIN DISPLAY STAND: Can't have floating chains either, so store them here. Five slots for five lengths of chain. Can be found in the catalog under Surfaces > Shelves.

REFERENCE TOME: A handy dandy knowledge source to know how to craft various items. This will tell you what metals and how many of that metal you will need for each item. Can be found in Hobbies > Knowledge.

Karabiner Elements Uninstall Mac

In this tutorial, I will show you how to remap your keyboard in OSX. We’ll be using software called Karabiner (formerly KeyRemap4MacBook), which is very powerful and 100% free.

Before remapping your keyboard via software, check to see if your keyboard has a DIP switch setting for the key(s) you want to remap. Hardware remapping is preferable to software when possible, because any changes you make will work with ALL devices, not just the computer on which you’ve installed remapping software.

Basic Remapping

Step 1: Download and install Karabiner. If you’re planning to remap your Caps Lock key, also download and install Seil.

Step 2: Create a profile for the keyboard you want to remap. To do so, click Karabiner’s icon in the system tray at the top-right-hand side of the screen. Go to Preferences –> MenuBar and tap the plus (+) button.

Step 3: Select your new profile using Karabiner’s system tray icon.

Step 4: Open Karabiner’s Preferences page once again, and this time, go to the “Change Key” tab. Check the remaps you want. Karabiner has hundreds of built-in remapping options, and there’s a good chance you’ll find what you need as a one-click option. Use the search box to find the keys you want to remap. Note that you don’t need to hit the ReloadXML button — changes will be applied as soon as you check or uncheck a box.

Install latest version of Karabiner and launch it. At the time of writing, it’s v11.1.0. In the Devices tab of Karabiner, enable Microsoft 2.4GHz Transceiver to be modified by simply checking the box.

Step 5: Close Karabiner’s preference panel and test your new remapping. Karabiner’s EventViewer function can come in handy for this. Done!

Advanced Remapping

So, you want to perform a remap that you can’t find in Karabiner’s pre-configured list. No problem — you just need to edit your private.xml. If you don’t already have a code editor that handles XML, download and install Adobe Brackets, a free and open source code editor.

Step 1: If you haven’t already done so, create a new keyboard profile as per the above instructions.

Step 2: Open Karabiner’s Preferences page, go to the “Misc & Uninstall” tab, and click the button labeled “Open private.xml.” A new Finder window will open, in which you will see your private.xml file. Right click it and open it using Adobe Brackets.

Step 3: Edit and save changes to private.xml. Your default private.xml may be blank or have some basic template code. If in doubt, delete everything in private.xml and start fresh by pasting in this code:

This code will be your template for creating custom remaps. Each remap goes inside its own item tag, with a name and identifier of your choice (private._________________). Then, use __KeyToKey__ or –KeyToConsumer– (for media keys) inside autogen tags to reassign keys as shown.

To find the necessary KeyCodes, you can either use Karabiner’s EventViewer or the lists linked below. Use the English language codes in private.xml, not the hex codes.

You can copy and adapt these two examples to most remapping you will need to do. In the event you need to remap in a way that these examples don’t cover, such as remapping a key to multiple other keys, consult Karabiner’s extensive technical documentation.

Note that when a single key is involved in more than one remap, you must consolidate all the relevant autogens inside a single item tag or the XML file will not be parsed correctly.

Step 4: Save private.xml and hit the ReloadXML button in Karabiner’s “Change Key” tab. Find your new remaps in the list, check them, and you’re good to go! If you receive an error message after hitting ReloadXML, go back and find the problem in private.xml — likely a tag that wasn’t properly closed.
