✨ a film for every year of my life ✨ | The Commitments (1991) dir. Alan Parker
Soul is the music that people understand. Sure it's basic and it's simple, but it's something else, something special. ‘Cause it's honest, that's it. It’s honest. There's no fucking bullshit. It sticks its neck out and says it straight from the heart. Sure there's a lot of different music you can get off on but soul is more than that. It takes you somewhere else. It grabs you by the balls and lifts you above the shite.

an Irish film that should be lauded MUCH more by everyone is An Cailín Ciúin (aka The Quiet Girl). It’s so beautiful in all of its subtleties, every shot is perfectly planned and lovely to see, I never get tired of watching it and finding more layers in it. It’s also revolutionary in that it is the first Irish film in Gaeilge to be nominated for an Oscar!

I just finished the movie Unwelcome (2023) about a couple who move to Ireland after a traumatic attack, they learn about the aunt who died and gave them the house and all the little things she did, like leave liver out by the small opening by the large door in her back fence that faces the wood. The husband has built up aggression as a response from the attack, the wife is pregnant. Neighbors warn them of the little people in the woods.
I think this had a great cast and tight writing. I liked the home invasion aspect and the pacing, it does start slow but truly ends in a bang and the creatures are wonderful
It’s like astory the movie the ritual would tell you over tea

On St. Patrick's Day, after you've eaten your corned beef and cabbage and drunk your green beer, why not settle in for a movie that sweeps you away to Ireland? In 2014 I put together a list of movies set in Ireland, perfect for St. Patrick's Day viewing. Since then, there have been quite a few more good movies set in the Emerald Isle, so I thought an update might be in order. Here are 10 movies to add to your celebration of all things Irish.

Coming 17th March!
St. Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious holiday that is celebrated on March 17th every year. It originated as a feast day to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, who is credited with bringing Christianity to the country. Today, the holiday has become a celebration of Irish culture and heritage, with parades, music, and festivities taking place around the world.
While St. Patrick's Day is a fun and joyous occasion, it's important to celebrate it respectfully. Avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes about Irish people, such as excessive drinking or leprechauns. Instead, take the time to learn about Irish history and culture, and appreciate the traditions and customs of the holiday. You can celebrate by attending a parade, listening to traditional Irish music, or trying traditional Irish foods. Remember to be respectful of the holiday's origins and significance, and enjoy the festivities in a way that honors Irish heritage.
"The Quiet Man" (1952) - A classic John Ford film starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara set in the Irish countryside. This romantic comedy is a must-watch for St. Patrick's Day.
