So uh, my youtube masterlist may have been another case of an omen and one of the people mentioned, Lotara Lore, an channel which uses Ai in some form and function. Majorkill. oh god, Majorkill you utter idiot. The crux of the issue here is that Majorkill made a fair and good point, however, the means with which he said and phrased it has now caused the person behind Lotara Lore to private their channel, which is back now as of writing. And they are being endlessly dogpiled. Plagirism is a terrible thing and shouldn't be moralised. This is a fair and just criticism. So too should you actually go through the effort of research and doing the legwork for videos/writing etc. However, what I cannot condone is harassment of any kind. Ai is a foul tool, those who use it are lazy for sure, but that doesn't give ANYONE grounds to relentlessy attack someone. Its a shitty thing to do, but bullying someone is not the solution here. I'm not calling for some kind of parley or other such action. We kick them out, thats it. Thats the proper solution, call it out; warn others. There is also a hyper-fixation that the person behind the channel is not a "woman" which has, predictably, ended as everyone expects. I've seen some terrible things said and repeated, to which I shall not repeat them. But calling people slurs is never right, no matter the context or reason.

I've recieved valid complaints from some here that I'm a bit of an asshole and I understand I may be standoffish but please, if you know someone who watches majorkill, please get them to unsubscribe and get to a healthier content ecosystem. Hatred only creates further hatred and I'd rather we not tear ourselves apart over another community drama. With this development the V1.1 update of the masterlist, coming november sometime, will not include said harassed channel. -SkitzoSolaris

This is a custom lighting mod to improve the graphics on your sims and their surroundings. This is a set but you can only place one of the lighting effects in your mods folder, more than one will cause issues with your gameplay.

Gshade allows you to use presets in the sims, Sadly I do not have gshade myself as for it isn't available on Mac at least not the one you need to use presets in the game.

This I was able to get on my Mac book but it just ended up being too confusing for me so I kinda just raged quit and never bothered to attempt using it.

Here is a graphics mod that does support both Mac and windows! I do recommend reading the entire patron post because it has a very well way of describing what this mod is, how it works, and where to find the folders to place the override it. They just do a better job at explaining it.

General progress update: I've been having a bit of art block as of late. I've been taking a break from talksprites to do some other personal art, but I'll be getting back to them soon. Next on the script docket is shopkeeper dialogue, which should go a lot quicker since there are only 5 in the game, two of which are very minor NPCs with little to say, and one of which is Steven, who will get his own separate section since he has so much going on. E! Winter Fic Exchange 2024/25 - Rules and Infos

Alright, so here’s the rules for the E! winter fic exchange 2024/25, running from Nov 7th 2024 to January 15th 2025. If there are any questions, feel free to shoot me an ask - I will also put together an FAQ post assuming we get any Questions to put in it.

Like last year, you will be able to sign up as a pinch hitter (who jumps in to write a fic on short notice if a participant fails to deliver) or writing mentor (to be paired up with participants who can deliver a fic but would like some writerly support) through the regular sign-up form, without participating in the main event yourself.

General Event Details

This is how it’ll go:

You sign up

You are assigned somebody to write a fic for and given a list of their fic preferences. Somebody else is assigned to write a fic for you. You won’t know who’s writing the fic for you until the end of the event.

All fics are posted on AO3 and added into a collection. This collection will hide the works until January 15th. 

On January 15th, all fics are revealed, but the author names will remain hidden for another week, to give everyone an equal shot at getting some exposure (and maybe have some fun guessing writers by style, lol)

On [date tbd, but likely the weekend following the 15th], the fic authors will be revealed. 

Schedule

Signs-Ups run from November 7th to November 15th at 11:59 PM EST.

Sign-Up will run via a google form linked [here].

(You’ll require either a tumblr or Discord account, as well as an AO3 account. Feel free to nudge me for AO3 invite codes should you need one.)

The deadline for posting fics to AO3 will be January 7th, 11:59 PM EST

The fic reveal will happen on January 15th 2025

The author reveal will happen a few days later to give everyone a few days of equal exposure.

Writing

Fics should be between 1000 and 2000 words long - though going under or over is fine, as long as you have a fully fleshed-out story / are SURE you can handle a higher wordcount. 

Beta-readers are highly recommended, but not required.

If you have any questions about your assignment, please don’t contact your giftee directly; instead, ask me and I’ll contact then for you so the whole thing remains secret.

Respect your giftee’s boundaries. If they’re not comfortable with certain things as listed on their assignment, don’t write these things. This is the most important rule by far.

Generally speaking: Following prompts is highly encouraged, but not mandatory. You really should stick to people’s preferred characters and/or pairings as the focus of your fic, though. Your giftee’s “don’t want to read about this” preferences, however, are absolute. This goes for rating, ships, and whatever else they may have listed.

Posting

All fics will have to be posted to AO3, in a specific collection, which I will link here once it’s up.

Posting deadline is January 7th 2024 to give me some time to iron out any wrinkles that may arise

In Case of Problems

If there are any issues with your assignments, contact me - ideally as soon as possible.

If you need to drop out, please tell me about it as quickly as you can - you will not get in trouble, and you do not have to give a reason for it. If you have to drop out, we will bring in a pinch hitter to fulfill your assignment in your stead, so nobody will be left without fic. Just please only drop out if you have to, and tell me as soon as you can so we can bring in a pinch hitter on time.

If the fic you write includes something on your giftee’s “Do Not Want” list, you will be given a chance to correct the issue before the posting deadline. If you refuse to do so (or are unable to), your fic will not be accepted for the fic exchange. A pinch hitter will fill your assignment instead, but you can post the fic you wrote independently of the fic exchange.

If you need writing help, contact me and I will do my best to help or find someone else who can.

Extensions: Extensions may be granted on a case-by-case basis. You will need to show the work you've done, and you will need to have a fic that you can feasibly complete within the next few days. You will also need to be willing and able to work closely with myself or another volunteer to make very sure that your fic gets completed on time. Extension are an absolute emergency measure. Do not rely on extensions - if you're encountering problems, please let me know as early as possible so we can find another solution instead.

i figured out why my sims were drowning anytime they went in the pool 😭 it was dandelionsprout's "competent handling of fires" mod at modthesims. i was stressed!!!

in the comments the creator says they are working on an update so hopefully they can fix the issue.

The Olde Cookbook v1.1 is causing my came to crash when I try to invite a sim over

Hi, if you're having any issues with this mod and have followed all the download/installation instructions correctly, the only thing I can suggest at the moment is to remove the mod from your game if it's causing any issues.

I'm updating/overhauling it completely (rebuilding it from scratch basically) so there won't be any updates or fixes to the current version.

Unfortunately I don't have a timeframe as to when the new version will be out as there's so many bits and pieces in the works.

DOAS Update v1.1 - 7/6/2023

Hiya! Excuse any sloppy writing, as I've been staying up WAY too late the last couple nights, but the first DOAS update is here!

The update includes:

New texting feature (highlighted in the scene where Grandpa is texting MC)

Minor bug/typo fixes

Minor animation/music changes (added an open/close eye animation for scene transitions, and adjusted music slightly for a scene in the prologue)

Added two new selectable fonts: OpenDyslexic and a Serif style font

Minor GUI update, namely the Album section** ** = I worked on it at 5am and realized I had forgotten to add a space for Morgan, as she was originally a secret route (to be unlocked after playing through the game 1x) but I eventually changed that for demo release to make it less confusing for the audience. Rest assured, within the next update that will be fixed, and Morgan is most definitely not forgotten - I am just very tired and very dumb. The updates from here on out will be a bit sporadic, but I'll be doing devlogs to keep you updated if interested. Next on my list to tackle is doing a UI overhaul (fixing the album screen, making the rest of the GUI match), eventually updating sprites + adding in Grandpa's sprite, trying to add another CG or two into the common route, and looking into re-doing some backgrounds. I need to learn Data Oriented Design

Today I wanted to start Unity’s “DOT’s Best Practices” course, but saw that I needed to first understand Data Oriented Design. Going down the wikipedia rabbit hole I found this online book on the subject. But fortunately Unity has an intro course “Understanding Data Oriented Design”.

I learned OO programming back maybe 1997 using Java v1.1. I picked Java over C++ because it forced you into an OO design. It was a really weird feeling when my brain finally switched into thinking about code in an OO way. Prior to that, I had only used procedural languages like BASIC and C.

I have a feeling that my brain will have to go through a similar change to think in DOD ways. Already I have issues with some of the assumptions about how objects are stored in memory when using a class:

You can still have contiguous arrays of objects in memory. But, I see here that even if it was perfectly lined up, there’s nothing in C# (the language used in Unity projects) that lets you access all of the Color properties as a single, contiguous array when it’s in an object:

So, if I’m understanding correctly, we will need to arrange properties by type in a contiguous area of memory to have the fastest access to each item. I guess you could still use objects, but the objects would need to use references to the array offsets for these properties.

Anyway, I only got a few paragraphs in before my brain started complaining. This should be interesting!
