Very strange feeling to have an interesting dream that ends with a post-narrative critique

Like. The ‘story’ ended and the dream shifted from “all of this is Currently Happening” to ‘actually you just watched a movie premiere?’

and as I was leaving the weird subterranean dream-theater with the other protagonists, we were all chatting like —

‘yeah, this project was a lot of fun to work on and a lot of fun to watch, but the story was a little cliche and the ending didn’t make much sense. Like — we started out so strong, but then that third-act twist… I mean — if you think about it for more than a minute, it totally undermined the themes the rest of the story seemed to be setting up! Almost like the studio got scared of making an audience potentially question our current status quo.

Heck. Part of me actually wonders if that’s what happened & the writers retaliated by making it weak on purpose — I mean, having the heroes foil the villain’s plan to terraform the deathworld for capitalistic exploitation only to then contrive a disaster that forces them to abandon their traditional alien way of life in favor of an earthlike environment anyway? The execs get their ‘happy ending’ in which everyone walks out into the sunshine — but it feels empty enough that maybe that’s the point. Maybe they want you to find the ending dissatisfying and then have to sit and think about why that is.

I know, I know — it’s a kids movie; I’m probably overthinking… but still: it’s just kind of a shame that we had all this fun and put all this passion into it, but because of that ending it’ll probably be forgotten by the end of the year.

Oh well. At least it was fun. I hope we all get the chance to work together again someday :)”

do. you consider the graphic novels to be canon (in some way)? and if so, what do you make of sadie and carter wearing the chb and cj t-shirts respectively at the end of tot i think

I consider the graphic novels to be their own individual canon - they're an adaptation of the source material and follow a different series of events than book canon, so they're in the same category as like the movies, show, or musical to me (and DS game, lmao). They exist completely separate from the canon they're adapting from, so they're their own entities.

The material I consider strictly "canon" is the first series, so Percy Jackson And The Olympians only. Then HoO and TOA as extraneous canon on top of that - sort of a like "recommended but optional." TKC and MCGA also kind of operate as their own canons within themselves but can be linked to main PJO canon, so similar category. Published companion novels and similar material (so like Singer of Apollo) are also optional add-ons.

Stuff like Un Natale Mezzosangue and Nachos After The War where they weren't ever formally published are non-canon official material to me, kind of in the same vein as promotional material released alongside the books (the activity guides and such). The official art exists in the same sphere to me. I also personally consider CHB: Austin's lore to be semi-canon or non-canon official material, because they're actually affiliated with Rick Riordan (he has directly interacted with the camp's activities in the past) and I think it's just kind of cute.

The ReadRiordan articles are just straight up strictly non-canon. They just are. That is just an objective fact about them. I am slightly more lenient towards some of the old official Riordan website's media, like the interactive Argo II map descriptions, just since those descriptions were one-and-done and presumably had to have been approved versus a ton of articles with different anonymous unaffiliated authors. It's at best in the same category as the non-canon official promotional material.

As for Sadie and Carter wearing camp t-shirts - it's a cute cameo! And also kind of interesting in that they're technically one of first official published depictions we have of the camp shirts with any kind of details on them (the old official art doesn't count actually cause that was also bonus material).

ok so first off i want to note that im calling it a concept au bc i dont really plan to do anything with it myself, its just fun concepts to think about, and at this stage its pretty much just entity assignments (with help from skye candyskiez in dms) and a fun venue for characterization. like seriously i don’t even know if it’s better for mob to still have psychic powers or not in this au tbh

so anyways the assignments

buried mob/desolation ???%. in world domination arc, he literally says out Loud how afraid he is of losing everything he cares about (and it being by his own hand/not being strong enough to protect them. both very desolation core). but at the same time the level of repression he’s putting himself through to feel like that won’t happen are suffocating him throughout the entire series. therefore the two sides of shigeo get their own entities and represent the other side’s greatest fear. never becomes full avatar of either but gets close to desolation in confession arc

stranger ritsu. this one was skye’s (i originally liked web ritsu for his control issues) and is bc of his Identity Issues (i mean hell big cleanup arc started because ritsu realized he didn’t know who he was underneath what everyone else thought of him!!). my favorite thing to rotate with this one is like. The Incident (or a version of it if i want to go full au) happening and ritsu justifying it how he does in canon, with “that wasn’t my brother. it looked like him but it wasn’t.” and then ritsu gets back from the hospital and mob is Different now and he just goes “that’s Still not my brother”.

reigen is. see it’s hard here bc his entire bit is that he Doesn’t Have Powers. so he’d have to be unaligned/a normal guy. but ALSO i think the lonely and the web are constantly trying to contact him about his cars extended warranty. so there’s that

dimple. he’s dimple! (leaning towards web for the brainwashing or end bc. well bc hes a ghost. but ALSO because hes afraid of being satisfied and reaching that final end! like thats why he does the whole divine tree arc!)

teru is, in my heart, like if adelard dekker was an annoying teenager. actively working to keep himself unaligned with any Fears and to stop rituals/keep avatars from gaining too much power. vulnerable to the lonely and the hunt but mostly manages to stay human

desolation shou. which yeah mobs also desolation but like. he did very much burn that guys house down. so it can be in a different way. in this au he’d be an agnes/gerry type guy, being raised into the desolation and then going “oh this fucking sucks. im going to stop this.” he and teru are vaguely aware of each other but don’t communicate

ok i dont think this is anything related to the watchmaker and all that stuff, but i think its insane that the Family turns traitors into memory zone memes because the concept of the memory zone memes is just that they were created by the true Dreamscape and from the emotions of those within the Dreamscape

this was from the emoscape with Mr McCoy in Dewlight Pavilion, where he was ordered by the Dreammaster to turn his siblings, who were apparently selling information to the IPC about the Family, into memory zone memes, but now i'm wondering just how many people got turned into memory zone memes for being a traitor

I would have said too that maybe the Family - trying to seek out the traitor and the killer of the first Oak Family Head - framed the Watchmaker and possibly turned him into a memory zone meme as well, but the Family is trying to search for the Watchmaker so that's less likely the case. But I just love seeing how fucked up actually the Family can be AND getting more information about the Dreammaster since there really isn't much of anything

Ren calling GigaCorp “the amazon of the minecraft universe” is fascinating (and really unintentionally funny) for a lot of reasons but it made me think… GigaCorp isn’t the first Hermitcraft company based off Amazon, there was Sahara in season 6. With Concorp confirmed to still be going, surely its competitor is as well? What if GigaCorp was formerly Sahara? It’s been a number of years and the company’s name has changed and they’re investing into space travel now, but there’s still a focus on “modern” design and using fiddly redstone

I'd like to think it's like a (I hope I'm calling this the right thing) hinged poly relationship? Like Gourmand is with Saint and Hunter but Saint and Hunter aren't with each other, kinda thing. I think Hunter and Saint would get along, like they might be buddies, but I don't really see them being TOGETHER together
