A funny thing that I have written for Pokémon is a little joke story where Chairman Rose goes to Kanto and does that thing rich British losers do where they incorrectly draw analogs between local customs and “civilized” British things, and he happens to call onigiri a Kantonian version of jelly filled donuts in front of three pesky native kids who are going to make fun of this British geezer until the day they die.

This explains why the Indigo league kids call them jelly donuts in one episode and then correctly call them rice balls immediately after.
