One funny thing about Worm is that you can get basically to the end of the book before realizing that there’s a titular Worm, that the incredibly vague title is actually referring to a specific guy in the cast. It’s very likely you’ll have stopped thinking about this by the time it comes up, because the title’s broad thematic link to Taylor’s situation becomes obvious even before Cherish describes her with the extended worm metaphor.  If you really wanted to I guess you could also interpret the title as, like, a rot-of-society thing, worms eating away at the foundation, or an infiltration thing, Taylor worming her way into various groups and situations, putting herself in a position where she has the leverage to make people do what she wants. A Multifaceted title, to be sure. But there is, also, there is very much a Worm. There is a literal Worm, and this Worm is behind everything bad that happened, which of course sounds like a shitpost in the vein of the “morbin’ all over everything” jokes. You thought your society would collapse due to the preponderance of heavily-traumatized Nihilists gaining city-leveling superpowers, but it was I, The Worm.

I had fun liveblogging the first book, so we're going to do it again with Ember Falls! As a note for the one person who I think might care, I will not be avoiding spoilers in these posts. So if you want to not read them, the tag to block will be "#taleweaver reads tge"

I thought Whitson Mariner was an Odysseus-like figure. Apparently that was incorrect.

I did not expect both a timeskip and a location shift, and it kinda threw me off.

I'm feeling more . . . charitable? Is that the word? More charitable towards Emma this book. Maybe it's because the first time I see her again, she's with Heather and I can tell they're actually friends.

Speaking of Emma: EMMA IS WHAT NOW? I did NOT see that one coming.

(Related sidenote: every time I think I know the relative ages of major characters, something happens and throws me off.)

This does help explain why Smalls feels ok with continuing to go on dangerous missions. Other than the fact that he's noble and awesome, I mean.

Heather's dislike of Heyna tastes like jealousy, and I am NOT a fan. Come on, Heather. You're better than this.

(I am a fan of Heyna and Coleden, though. They seem cool, and I look forward to Heather's dislike being proved misplaced.)

You know who else I like despite only meeting her for two pages? Sween. She seems like a sweetheart who needs a hug and a rescue mission.

I would guess that either she's going to be the one who the eventual rescue/infiltration mission talks to OR she'll be forced to act as a spy for Morbin among our heroes as a fake escapee or something. I kinda hope it's the latter, because that kind of drama and tension is DELICIOUS.

Oh, and apparently there's a probably-evil rabbit army now too? Which threw me off A LOT; I honestly still thought this was a "most rabbits are good except for a few very rare exceptions" situation. But apparently that was incorrect. Kudos to be author for not doing that, I guess.

That said, the fact that rabbits can be legitimately evil, or at least antagonistic, en masse implies that there can also be good-aligned wolves and hawks. I really hope this is the case.

So, yep! That's everything I've got for now. Time will tell which of these statements will come back to bite me.
