Michael Jackson: A Life in Ten Pictures (ESSAY)
Michael Jackson’s rise to becoming the world’s most recognisable pop idol began at the humble age of eight, when Jackson was set to be the lead vocalist of a familial band of brothers known as the Jackson 5. This band compromised of the five brothers after being musically coached by their father Joe Jackson and became a popular band amongst locals performing at children’s shows and Roosevelt High School, to later to be recognised for their accomplishments with awards and their first press. Most of their revenue came about performing within nightclubs. They begin to ease into the profession as the scale of their performances grew, and they were finally recognised to audition for Berry Gordy for their signage into Motown Records. (LLC, 2023)
Tumblr media
Michael Jackson’s first solo release is often described as his way of identifying himself as a professional male vocalist; “Got To Be There”, it’s release in 1972 gave an opportunity for Jackson to separate himself from his five brothers as a musician (Intosh, 2022). There was a sense of intentional musical direction from Jackson with the overseeing and nourishment of his mother and father. The track list had confident covers like Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and Carole King’s ‘You Got a Friend in Me’ as well are originals inspired by Diana Ross. His song ‘Maria (You Are the Only One)’ is on the topic of an old man seeking for his past lover, embellishing some of Jackson’s sadness and showing his maturity for his music to come. (Intosh, 2022)
Tumblr media
'Off the Wall’ subsequently is often referred to as Jackson’s first solo album despite being his fifth studio release, as he signed to Epic Records in 1975, becoming his first rendition of his song writing and collaboration with his chosen producer being Quincy Jones. Jackson had expressed a distaste for the Vegas style shows and costumes while working within Jackson 5, Motown records and under his father unwavering discipline, ‘Off the Wall’ is recognised to be the liberation of Michael Jackson. (Dombal, 2016) With this album he expressed to the world that his goal was exceptionalism, ‘I will be magic. I will be a perfectionist.’ (Dombal, 2016) This album captured his desire to defy expectations in a natural and posed manner.
Tumblr media
Upon its release in 1982, ‘Thriller’ is the album that formed Jackson’s position as an icon in the global world. It remains as the most successful album of all time, selling over one hundred million certified copies worldwide. (Ewing, 2008) Continuing his collaboration with Quincy Jones, they collectively produced an album that broke through even racial tensions. Jackson had created an album that could be enjoyed by all and carefully formulated the choreography and visuals with his album to be equally as significant. Due to its pleasing nature, ‘Thriller’ as an album has many troughs and ploughs with a lack of overall climax. (Ewing, 2008)
Tumblr media
Another one of Jackson’s most iconic moments in history is his popularisation of the moonwalk, a dance originated from breakdancing and hip-hop techniques known as ‘popping and locking’ from the late 70s. (Childs, 2021) Jackson’s meticulous nature ensured that his performance was one to remember and last the decades to follow, in which it continued to inspire other young artists. The origins of the dance itself had variations found in prior decades, for example 50s tap dancing and 30s being called ‘the buzz’ or the ‘backslide’. There have also been instances of these variations being performed by other musicians such as James Brown. (Childs, 2021) It’s been thought that Jackson was taught these variations, where Jackson later formed his own rendition of the moonwalk alongside the pop-and-lock style.
Tumblr media
Jackson received many awards in his career; his largest achievement where he became the first artist to win eight GRAMMY Awards in one year (GRAMMYs, 2017). Jackson was also awarded by President Ronald Reagan for the philanthropic efforts to dispel drunk driving across the United States, by campaigning with one of his highest-ranking songs, ‘Beat it’ towards the teenagers of America. This event sparked attention of President Reagan: ‘Jackson was at the height of his popularity, and the Reagan administration was engaged in its War on Drugs.’ (Ahner, 2022) The public and the administration assumption of the substance free lifestyle Jackson proposed would continue to become more questionable into the late 80s (Ahner, 2022).
Tumblr media
In 1991, Jackson released one of his most controversial songs, “Black or White”. The song was features on Jackson’s eight studio album ‘Dangerous’ and quickly topped the charts over 20 countries (Valencia, 2023). The song addresses important issues surrounding race and racial identity, promotes unity, and encourages embracing our shared humanity. The song’s innovative music video featured ground-breaking visual effects and an all-star cast, and became an instant classic, which helped to establish Jackson as a true pioneer in the world of music (Valencia, 2023). Despite its release being more than thirty years ago, the song’s message of unity and acceptance still holds relevance – making it one of the most important pop songs of all time.
Tumblr media
In 1993, Jackson’s agreed to appear on his most televised and controversial interview yet with show-host Oprah, in which he shared his reflection of his childhood trauma from being introduced into the industry so early on (Winfrey, 2009). The stark honesty and candid nature of the interview lead the conversation to the rumours around the whitening of his skin, in which he debunked any claims of skin bleaching with the medical condition vitiligo and covered any blotches with makeup. People have refuted his claim without any evidence from Jackson himself (Davis, 2014). ‘…He had absolutely no pigmentation in his skin – you are looking at his veins...’ a testimony from Oprah in her own reflection of her interview with Jackson (Winfrey, 2009).
Tumblr media
Thirteen years ago, ‘Jackson sparked outrage when he appeared to dangle his baby son ‘Blanket’ over his hotel balcony in front of photographers in 2002…’ (Pocklington, 2015) At the time of the incident, his son was only nine months old. Jackson later apologised for the occurrence: ‘I offer no excuses for what happened. I got caught up in the excitement of the moment.’ In his interview with Oprah a few years prior, he had claimed his lack of childhood impact his outward work in amusement parks and few believe this incident came because of his previous trauma. (Winfrey, 2009)
Tumblr media
In the afternoon of June 25th, 2009, Michael Jackson had died of apparent cardiac arrest in Los Angeles at the age of 50 (Grad, 2019). The Los Angeles County coroner’s office completes an autopsy on Jackson’s body and found the anaesthetic propofol and sedatives in Jackson’s system, creating a lethal mix. Jackson’s dead is ruled a homicide. Despite the worst kinds of allegations against him, his extravagances and his perceived narcissism (Grad, 2019) – the world still respected Michael Jackson for the music he made for more than four decades.

In January 2nd, 1983. #MichaelJackson released "Billie Jean" as the second single from his sixth studio album, Thriller. It was written and composed by Michael Jackson and produced by Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones.
For the story, Michael Jackson said he felt "Billie Jean" would be a success as he was writing it and stated "A musician knows hit material. Everything has to feel in place. It fulfills you and it makes you feel good. That's how I felt about 'Billie Jean'. I knew it was going to be big when I was writing it." He explained that, hearing it in his head while in his car, he was so absorbed that he did not realize his car had caught fire until a passing motorcyclist informed him.
While recording at Westlake Studios, Michael Jackson disagreed with the producer, Quincy Jones, about the song. According to some reports, Jones felt it was too weak to be included on Thriller, but Jones has denied this. Quincy Jones disliked the demo and did not care for the bassline, and wanted to cut Michael Jackson's 29-second introduction. Michael Jackson, however, insisted that it be kept. According to Quincy Jones, he conceded when Michael Jackson said it made him want to dance: "And when Michael Jackson tells you, 'That's what makes me want to dance', well, the rest of us just have to shut up."
Quincy Jones also wanted to change the title to "Not My Lover", as he believed that people would think the song referred the tennis player Billie Jean King. Michael Jackson refused to change the title and asked Quincy Jones to give him co-producing credits for the track, as he felt that the finished product sounded close to his demo. In addition, Michael Jackson wanted extra royalties. Quincy Jones granted him neither and the two fell out for several days.
Quincy Jones had Michael Jackson sing his vocal overdubs through a six-foot cardboard tube. Michael Jackson's lead vocal was performed in one take and he had received vocal training every morning throughout the production of the song. Jazz saxophonist Tom Scott played the lyricon, an electronic wind instrument. Bassist Louis Johnson played his part on every bass guitar he owned, before Michael Jackson settled for a Yamaha bass.
Engineer Bruce Swedien mixed the song 91 times ! Unusual for Swedien, who usually mixed a song just once. Instructed by Quincy Jones to create a drum sound with "sonic personality" that no one had heard before, Quincy Jones constructed a platform for the drum kit with special elements including a flat piece of wood between the snare and hi-hat. He said: "There aren't many pieces of music where you can hear the first three or four notes of the drums, and immediately tell what the piece of music is. But I think that is the case with 'Billie Jean', and that I attribute to sonic personality."
The "Billie Jean" music video debuted on March 10, 1983 on MTV. It was one of the first videos by a black artist to be aired regularly by the channel, as the network's executives felt black music was not "rock" enough ! ( What a shame ). Directed by Steve Barron.
Walter Yetnikoff, the president of Michael Jackson's record company CBS Records, approached MTV about playing the "Billie Jean" video, which MTV had not ever played in spite of Michael Jackson's success as a musical artist. Yetnikoff became enraged ( Ah, good time when Michael's record compagny had his back ! ) when MTV refused to play the video, and he threatened to go public with MTV's stance on racial discrimination. "I said to MTV, 'I'm pulling everything we have off the air, all our product. I'm not going to give you any more videos. And I'm going to go public and fucking tell them about the fact you don't want to play music by a black guy.'
MTV relented and played the "Billie Jean" video in heavy rotation. After the video was aired, Thriller went on to sell an additional 10 million copies !
But the best yet to come...Michael Jackson performed "Billie Jean" on the television special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, broadcast on May 15, 1983. The performance is considered a watershed moment in popular culture history. The special was recorded on March 25 as a celebration of Motown Records' twenty-fifth anniversary (Motown was launched in 1959). The event featured many popular Motown acts, past and present. Michael Jackson initially refused an invitation to reunite with the Jackson 5 for a performance, but reconsidered after a visit from Motown founder Berry Gordy, whom Michael Jackson respected and then Michael asked to also perform "Billie Jean", to which Gordy agreed !
Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever was watched by 50 million people and Michael Jackson's routine earned him an Emmy nomination. With the performance, Jackson reached a new audience and increased the sales of Thriller, which eventually became the best-selling album of all-time !
"Billie Jean" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart within three weeks, and became Michael Jackson's fastest-rising number one single since "ABC", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There" in 1970, all of which he recorded as a member of the Jackson 5. It remained at number one for nine weeks on the chart. Billboard ranked it as the No. 2 song for 1983. "Billie Jean" is certified 6× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The song has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time. It was also a number one hit in the UK, France, Switzerland and Belgium for example, and reached the top ten in many other countries. "Billie Jean" was one of the best-selling singles of 1983, helping Thriller become the best-selling album of all time, and became Jackson's best-selling solo single.
"There never was a real Billie Jean. The girl in the song is a composite of people my brothers have been plagued with over the years. I could never understand how these girls could say they were carrying someone's child when it wasn't true." Michael Jackson. #michaeljackson #Kingofpop #mjforever 👑🌟🙏🏾✌🌻💖

Could you give me some angst with Milo, Piers and Gordie? I live and die for Milo angst aaah;;;
((I feel sorry for these gentlemen))
Milo
“Is that all you got to show for yourself?”
“You’d think he would give a challenge. Has he grown soft lately?”
“Nessa kicks more ass than he does. Not surprised though,”
The comments were relentless. You’d think that after a few years of being a Gym Leader, the comments that fans made wouldn’t mean as much. However, there are some weeds that just don’t disappear that easily. Milo knew that being a Gym Leader had its sore moments, especially considering the fact that he’s the first Gym Leader that challengers face during the tournament. And as the first Gym Leader, it’s prohibited that Milo doesn’t use any of his strongest Grass type Pokémon, due to him being the supposedly easy stepping stone challengers can defeat. There are times when the losses did not affect Milo much, because he is okay with losing. After all, isn’t being a Gym Leader suppose to be an opponent that can offer a challenger a chance to beat and earn a badge? Every Gym Leader knows this and some take their losses with humility, such as with Opal and Kabu, while other Gym Leaders can get frustrated, as for Nessa and Raihan. Milo took his defeats with humility and didn’t mind at all if he lost. Battling can be a good time, but for others, battling is seen as competitive.
Milo knew about the ugliness of battling and what it can do to die hard fans who have certain levels of expectations. They can look at Nessa and comment on how her battling technique shines far brighter in contrast to Milo’s, whose more subdued and prefers to show little. With Nessa, her fan base revels in how much she improves and strives forward, thus making her popular among many people. Though Milo does get praise from his fans, there are plenty who lurk in the shadows and are typing away on their phones, commenting on how Milo’s battling performance has gotten weaker. Due to that kind of attention, it has caused Milo to become very self-conscious on him being a Gym Leader. A few comments that get underneath his skin, they manage to rip a chunk of esteem, spatting it out with such ferocity and judgment that it has gotten to be....sickening.
“Why can’t Milo be better?”
This question has been tossed around a lot and, frankly, this question plagued Milo’s mind. He wished he could tell his fans why, but due to being in a circle of professionals, the answers are concealed in confidentiality. The Pokémon League has been aware of the activity that has been going on, which Milo wonders if they happen to monitor any of the activity going on with the other Gym Leaders. Still, this was Milo’s business, with which he tries to conduct himself as the gentle, friendly giant. It wasn’t a facade; that’s just who he is as a person, because being overly competitive like Raihan or Nessa just didn’t suit him. He couldn’t bring himself to look in a mirror and stare at his reflection, trying to mimic that confident, almost superior attitude that his friends have. Despite being able to put on a smile and walk out onto the pitch with ease, that nagging insecurity of being a pathetic excuse for a Gym Leader latches on to Milo, like a weed poisoning the flowers beauty.
Piers
Music has always been a part of Piers and who he is as an individual. Growing up, his father was a musician who used to go around the Galar region, putting on shows here and there during halftime during the Gym Challenge. Over time, his father retired from that profession and settled down with his life long sweetheart, which eventually leads to the here and now. Piers sticks to music like glue. Separating the singer from the microphone is a no go, which is why Piers insists on taking his portable mic everywhere with him. Hey, you never know if someone wants a concert. But, lately over time, the relationship between Piers and his music has been put on hold ever since he became Gym Leader. This was not his choice. When Piers first told his parents that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps, his mother told him that by doing so, he wasn’t going to get anywhere in life. His father got lucky because he was able to get sponsored by people who saw musical talent in him, which is rare to come by in Galar since the region focuses more on battling than anything else. By announcing his dream in front of his parents at the tender age of ten, Piers felt himself being sucked down into a pit of roadblocks and detours. Taking part of the Gym Challenge was also not a choice that Piers made. Instead, his father knew someone who he was good friends with and had him sponsor Piers to take part. Regardless of his negative feelings of the entire thing, the Gym Challenge proved to be somewhat worthwhile and it even inspired Piers to use Dark types since he has a fascination with them.
However, over the course of his Gym Challenge and beyond, Piers began to feel burned out from the whole Gym Leader gig. The idea of repeating battles over and over and being forced to Dynamax your Pokémon at the tail end of a match started to lose its rhythm with Piers. Especially the Dynamaxing. As a kid, Piers took zero interest in the whole Dynamaxing appeal. He thought it looked cheap and something that made battling quite unbalanced given the extra power up. Given that Spikemuth was nowhere near a Power Spot, which was a mandatory requirement for every Gym in Galar, Piers was put into Circhester’s Gym for battling matches much to his dismay. After a few more matches that involved pointless Dynamaxing, Piers outright refused to Dynamax due to the disrespect of being able to battle in his own city because of a minor issue. Because of his announcement, it left Piers facing both criticism from the fans and some media outlets, who took Piers’ words as disrespectful to the Pokémon League as well as to the culture of the Galar region. Still, there were some Gym Leaders who were understanding towards this, such as Milo, Kabu, and Raihan.
After a few years of battling in his home city, Piers became a lot more cynical to battling and he found time to jot his feelings down into lyrics as upcoming songs for his concerts. This entire journey for Piers has been a back and forth ride where Piers wants to show how great Spikemuth is without Dynamaxing and him wanting to pursue his own passions of being a singer, the latter of which he wants to achieve. There are many factors that keep holding him back though, such as being a disappointment to his family if he decides to quit, being portrayed as selfish when all he wants to do is pursue his passions by the media and his fans, or just...fearing everything altogether. Luckily, Marnie helps console him and, to some extent, the grunts of Team Yell. Not a large music fan base, but they keep Piers from getting too discouraged.
If Piers can manage to break away from the battling environment altogether, then that would be a song worth singing.
Gordie
Gordie loves his mother, let’s just make that clear. Despite the arguments, there’s no bad blood between them. As the eldest child in the family, Gordie has a lot on his plate. For one thing, his siblings. Although they give him so much strife, he loves them. Gordie wouldn’t trade them for the world. Secondly, his relationship with Melony, his mother, has always been a positive one. I mean, this woman is part of his fan club for goodness sake! Still, with the positives, there are some negatives that have nearly tempted Gordie to cut ties with his family. Being a person who specializes in Rock types, Gordie never became interested in Ice type Pokémon. Sure, Snom looks adorable but Gordie finds Rolycoly to be even cuter! Melony has always known that Gordie likes Rock types, something of which she doesn’t understand but tries to. However, even when she tries to be a good mentor to Gordie, she doesn’t know a single thing about Rock types which causes her some frustration.
Gordie has dealt with his mother’s tough love before, especially considering he has faced her as a Gym Challenger before during his time in the Gym Challenge. Their match was something like a spectacle, but it proved difficult when Gordie tries to convince Melony that he can be a good Gym Leader without using Ice type Pokémon. Over the years, once Gordie became a certified Gym Leader, he would run the Circhester Gym alongside with his mother, which proved even more difficult. Both the mother and her son would not see eye to eye as much and everyone around the city took notice of this and would try to steer clear. One argument in particular has caused some emotional harm to both parties, more with Gordie whom once said that Ice types are useless in the heat of battle. This set off Melony, who returned his remark by saying if he didn’t spend so much time with his Rock type Pokémon, he would’ve saw something differently and be a better Gym Leader.
That argument set off a week long tension filled silence, with Gordie not speaking to his mother at all. At home, it got worse with Gordie moving out and staying at his apartment until things settled down. If until things settled down. At some point during the prolonged silent treatment did Gordie decide to call his mom to apologize. Even with the apology and the two making some progress to mend their relationship, Gordie knew that there would be no common ground between them aside from being related. The strain settled in and it frightens both of them that one day they might never see eye to eye again. It’s a fear that no parent and child should ever have to face.

Mini Fanfic #291: Gordie the Rocking Heart Breaker (Pokemon Sword and Shield)
Raihan: (Looking Through Gordie's phone to see a bunch of phone numbers popping up) Geez, Gordie.....How many phone numbers do you even have here?
Leon: (A bit Surprised as well) Yeah... That does look like quite a lot....
Gordie: (Sat on his chair in a smug like manner) Not to brag or anything but let's just say that I've met some very interesting ladies who were all kind enough to give me each of their numbers individually.
Leon: Jasmine...... Roxanne...... Candice....wait a minute.... Is it me or are these names sounding a bit familiar here?
Raihan: Yeah.....Those girls are Gym Leaders just like us. (Turns to Gordie) How the hell were you able to get all these numbers knowing that they're from completely different regions?
Gordie: I didn't. Oddly enough, I met each separate of them in a town close from here. I've talked with Candice first, then with Jasmine next, and finally with Roxanne. Three nice conversations later and load and behold, they gave me each of their numbers. They seemed to be pretty interested in me given how much they've started blushing and look away during our chat.
Leon: (Smiles Softly) Well that sounds pretty cool.
Raihan: (Rolled his eyes while mumbling) Yeah....For a rock boy.
Leon: (Nudge on Raihan's Shoulder as he continues his conversation with Gordie) So tell us, Gordie. Which these ladies you wanted ask out?
Gordie: Neither.
Leon: (Surprised) Neither?!
Raihan: Boy, what you talking about?
Gordie: I'm just saying that I might not choose from these three. They're all very sweet, sure, but I doubt I'll have a chance with either of them. So....I might as well let them down easy.
Leon: So basically.... You're going to reject them just because you don't think you'll have a shot with either of them? Even when they've clearly shown their interest in you?
Gordie: Yep. Pretty much.
Raihan: Damn, Gordie.....You really are a Heartbreaker.
Gordie was about to say something when suddenly.....
???: ('GASPS') You are a Heartbreaker?!
Gordie: ('Sigh') I am not a Heartbreaker- (Turns Around.....only for his eyes to begin Widened once he see his very Shocked Mother standing right behind him) Oh no.....
Raihan: (Begins to Smirk a bit Wickedly) And it begins......
Gordie: Oh! Uh....Mom! (Chuckles Awkwardly) What are you doing here?......
Melony: I was making sure if you made it here okay. (Place her hands on her hips and gave her son a Motherly glare) Now what is this I hear about my baby being a Heartbreaker?
Gordie: (Starting to Sweat Bullet) That's my........... nickname? (Shrugged with a panicked like smile)
Melony: (Sighed as she turn towards Raihan and Leon) Boys, could you please tell me what's going on here?
Leon: Your son was given three phone numbers from three girls before he got here. And now he's decided to reject all of them with no problem just because he somehow thinks he has no chances with either of them.
Melony: ('GASPS') Oh my.....
Gordie: Leon!
Raihan: Said it once and I'll say it again....(Smirks) Your son is a certified Heartbreaker, ma'am.
Gordie: (Gritting his teeth at Raihan) Raihan, you little-
Melony: Gordison!
Gordie: (Whimpering) Y-Yes, mommy?....
Melony: I did not raise you to openly break women's hearts like this.
Gordie: (Sigh as he lower his head in shame) I know.....But even if I do have to choose from all three of them, I'm still not sure if I'll have a honestly shot with any of them.
Melony: (Gently Rub Both of her baby's shoulders) Oh honey....I know being in an actual relationship can be scary at first glance, but you'll never know what it'll actually be like if you don't give this a chance.
Gordie: Yeah...... You're right. (Took A Deep Breath) I got a lot of thinking to do, don't I?
Melony: I believe so, dear. Would you like me to help you?
Gordie: (Shook his head) Nah. Don't worry, mom. I think I got this from here. (Smiles a little) Thanks for the advice though, mom. I kind of needed that.
Melony: (Smiles Sweetly) You're always welcome, Gordie honey. (Gave Gordie a big kiss on the cheek much to his distaste)
Gordie: (Blushes Heavily) M-Mom!! Not in public!!!!
Melony: (Giggles Softly) Sorry, sweetheart. Mommy couldn't resist.
Gordie: ('Groans in Embarrassment')
Raihan: (Snickering at Gordie's Dispense.....that is until Leon Nudge on his elbow just to get him to stop)
Melony: As much as I love to spend more time with you and your friends today, I have to pickup your siblings from school in a few minutes. (Hugs Gordie) Meet me at my house for a family dinner later on today?
Gordie: Sounds good.
Melony: Goodie! (Gave Gordie a small peck on the cheek before walking) Bye, sweetie!~ I love you!~
Gordie: (Sigh as he quickly starts wiping his mother's kisses off his cheeks) Honestly.......
Raihan: Looks like Momma Melony strikes again.
Gordie: (Rolled his eyes) Don't remind me....But at the very least, she was able help me from making a fool out of myself....
Raihan: ('Ahem')
Gordie: (Gave one look at his two friends before Chuckling Awkwardly) A-And of course, you guys helped too... somewhat. Thanks for that by the way.
Leon: (Smiles Softly) No problem, man. What are friends for.
Raihan: (Smirks) Yeah? Especially when that said friend is a Momma's boy.
Gordie: Alright....I think that's quite enough about me and my love life for one day. (Begins to Smirk himself) Let's talk about you two now.....
Raihan: (Eyes Widened) Uhhhhhhhhh.....
Leon: Sure. What's there to talk about?
Gordie: Oh it's simple really. Like....Oh I don't know.....Are you two dating?
Raihan/Leon: NO!/Yes.
Raihan: (Slowly Turn Towards Leon)
Leon: (Shrugged) What? It's true, isn't it?
Raihan: (Facepalms)
Gordie: Knew it.
Bonus
*Cellphone Rang*
Roxanne: (Answer the call) Hello?
Gordie: (On the other line) I-Is this Roxanne of Rustboro's City Gym?
Roxanne: That's correct. May I ask who is calling?
Gordie: It's Gordie...The Gym Leader Circhester's Gym-
Roxanne: Oh my gosh! Gordie?!......(Immediately Starts Blushing) I ummm...('Ahem') Mr. Gordie.....What a surprise.
Gordie: (Chuckles Very Lightly) Yeah...
Roxanne: So.....I-Is there anything I could help you with?
Gordie Oh umm...Okay. Soooo.....are you still at a town nearby from here?
