"Noo not now!" Buck whined at the ringing alarm bell. The food on his spoon almost close enough to touch his lips. You giggled, grabbing a piece of bread and putting it in your mouth before running off to get your uniform on. Eddie waited for you at the truck, your helmet already in his hands, leaning against the red door so you can get in first. "Hello handsome." You teased as you climbed in. His cheeks flushed, playfully rolling his eyes as he gave you the helmet with your name on. The door closed behind him and at a fast speed the truck started moving.
"What are we looking at, cap?" Eddie asked throught the combs. His eyes landed on you. You were sitting in front of him, your seatbelt thigtend against your chest, your hand resting on the mental part so that when you arrived you would be quick to unbuckle it.
"Car accident." Bobby replied, looking at his team throught the rearview mirror. "It's not gonna be pretty."
You took a deep breath as you caught Buck nervously shuffling in his seat. Calls like these almost always meant a heavy outcome.
Eddie brushed his foot against yours, a wordless gesture of asking if your were okay. You nodded, smiling at his concern. "I can't wait when we are finished with this shift." You admitted. "I wanna finally eat."
"Oh, same here y/n." Buck agreed. "I'm starving." Eddie's mouth curled up in a small smile, refusing to keep his eyes of you. He admired your succesfull attempt to make the mood a bit lighter since he knows you aren't keen on heavy silences.
Once you arrived at the scene, you patiently awaited captain's orders. Two cars where smashed into each other as the third laid further down on it's back. Four people where involved with one victim who's injuries were already fatal. The team moved quickly as you were the first to arrive at the scene.
"Eddie, Y/n?" Bobby yelled. "Go look at the car further down and give me an update."
You quickly sprinted over to the upsidedown car, gear in hand and Eddie next to you. A man, about 30, layed unconscious in his car seat. The seatbelt stopping him from completely falling to the ground. You tried your best to examine him in his current situation. But the door had blocked all your access, luckily the man had his window open. You kneeled down so you could feel for a heartbeat. "I got a pulse!" You yelled, feeling the skin under your finger move in a slow pace. "We'll need a neck brace and an IVE. Can you call for extra backup to get him out?"
Eddie nodded, rushing to the truck while updating dispatch and Bobby on the current situation.
Your brain was looking at all the different options to get the man safely out. In your head you had already sawn off the door and got the backup to help you get him back down. But in reality it would be taking a bit longer so you had to find a way to keep him alive until then.
You were deep in thought until Eddie's screams pulled you back out. You looked over at him. He was running towards you but yelling for you to get back. In a split second your brain switched and you were hearing clearly what he was saying. "The motor!" He yelled. "It's gonna explode."
You were still positioned on the ground, you tried crawling back but a hand suddenly grabbed your uniform, stopping you from moving. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." You cried, looking at the passenger who had just woken up. His grip was ferm and before you knew it there was an explosion. Your body flew to the side. A stabbing pain in your side and a pounding headache made it unable for you to get back up.
Oh no. You though, seeing the ground underneath you turn into a puddle of blood.
"Y/n? Y/n!" Eddie cried, falling to his knees, his hands shaking. He tried whiping away the blood from your face, stroking some hair behind your ear before grabbing your cheeks in his hands. "Oh honey. Oh god."
"Eddie?" You breathed weakly, noticing the blood on his clothes. "Are you okay."
The firefighter tried to staunch the blood on your side while panicked breaths left his lips. His eyes were red and full of terror. "Eddie, I'm fine. I promise." You mumbled, not fully processing how bad it was. You weakly grabbed onto the hem of his shirt. The blood on your hands left a red stain the shape of you fingerprints. Oh. It isn't his blood that he was covered in. Your vision started to blurry, breathing started to hurt, your ears were ringing and your head was pounding so hard you were afraid your heart was gonna burst out of your body.
"Just look at me." Eddie assured. As he watched the rest of the team help him out with stopping the blood from leaving your body. You looked down at the nagging pain. A sharp piece of metal was struck right through your side. Looking at it made it worse. The pain was stronger then ever. "Hey look at me. You're alright." Eddie grabbed your hand, squeezing it as hard as he could. He was trembling over his words but you didn't care. All you could think about was him. His eyes. His beautiful eyes being filled with worry. "I'm sorry." You cried. "I'm so sorry." You sobbed, your free hand grabbed his shirt again. You where terrified, completely terrified and all you wanted to do was sink into his arms and never let go. "I'm so tired, Eddie."
"I know baby. I know. But you gotta keep looking at me. Let me see those pretty eyes." You couldn't help the hot tears streaming down your face. Your breathing became more shallow and your eyelids more heavy. It was getting harder to stay awake. You tried. You really tried. Eddie was mumbling to keep you awake but you couldn't hear anything cleary at this point. Hen secured the piece of metal that was crushed into your side. She and the team helped you on a curney while Eddie kept by your side. Your hands still locked into each other.
You felt so weak and in so much pain. You saw the sky moving above you as they rolled you to the ambulance. You vaguely heard your panicked colleges and conversations over dispatch but it was all too foggy to clearly hear what they were saying.
The sky looked pretty that night. The stars seemed to be perfect. But you were tired. And ready to go to sleep.
Tumblr media
You were awoken by a soft buzzing sound and some distant chatter that you couldn't make out. Opening your eyes seemed harder then you rememberd. Your eyelids felt heavy. You started flickering them until you were used to the white light that the room illuminated.
Your throat felt afwul and there was still a sharp pain on your side but this time more bearable. Your eyes closed shut a few times again and here and there you drifted back into a deep slumber.
Once you slept off your anesthesia you were able to think again. You opened your eyes and tried to locate were you where. You fell a soft hand touching yours and after you carefully tilted your head, you saw your tired boyfriend sitting next to you. His hair was a mess and his head was resting on your bed. He was snorring a little and you smiled at the peaceful state he looked in. A nurse walked into the room. He greeted you but lowered his voice once he saw Eddie sleeping.
"He has been here quite a while." The nurse admitted while they checked your obs. "How are you feeling?"
You carefully nodded your head. "I'm fine. Could be better though." The nurse smiled sympathetically. Once he was done checking your vitals the doctor wandered in.
She told you they were able to successfully remove the metal and that you should be able to make a full recovery. "You did lost a lot of blood and suffered some head trauma so you'll have to take it very easy, y/n." The doctor warned. "Lot's of rest and taking it very easy. I'll let a chiropractor come and visit you once you're feeling better so they can discuss further treatment with you. For now I'll give you something more for the pain and some ice for your throat. You're very lucky, y/n. This could have taken a very different turn." She said before leaving the room to let you rest.
You took a deep breath. Your hand softly combed through the messy brown hair of the Diaz sleeping next to you. He stirred in his sleep, muttering your name a few times before realizing what was happening.
His head abruptly perked up. "You're awake." He whispered, almost not believing his eyes. He immediately sat up straight, his right hand holding yours.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"I'm alive." You smiled. "But I'm still starving."
Eddie let out a soft laugh, he tried his best to hide the tears that were forming in his eyes.
"You scared me y/n." He admitted. "You really did."
"I know."
Eddie leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to your temple. He brushed some hair away, his fingers following the soft skin of your cheeck. "You're going to be okay." You were afraid and in pain but seeing him here made it for some reason go all away a little. "And once we're home I'm gonna cook you the best meal you ever had." He laughed, trying to see you crack a smile in which he succeeded.

Aaaaaand finish! The first trial starts in the next part.
Well well well... I don't think they quite managed such a personally hateable antagonist for Case 2 since Redd White. Instead of pulling the law in his favour through blackmail, Retniz is using shady contracts and public opinion to drive us into a corner. Attention is power and this man has all the power he needs to put the A-Team on the backfoot it would seem. Seems Bonny and he have a mutual grudge to settle with Little Miss Gramarye... and they make quite an effective duo too. The former has the know-how and experience working with Trucy to help pull this off while he handles the crowd. Seems we're getting a jealousy arc for her.
Tumblr media
Phoenix... Nick... good ol' Nicky-Nacky-Noo himself. I think he's both in a much better role here than in most of DD and a much more impactful presence than in 5-2. 5-2 was more of a laugh-it-off sort of affair so Phoenix doesn't get to pull the sheer reverence and weight his presence allows (AJ not withstanding anyways). It's a rare thing for me to be relieved at 3D Phoenix's presence in a case, so consider my respect earned on that front, Spirit of Justice. Of course, I AM talking from the perspective of someone who's treating these cases as standalones and not taking the plot as a whole from start to finish. I know Phoenix dominates SoJ in a similar way to DD. It's tastefully done here at least.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You see this? You see. THIS!? This is the kind of thing I think Athena and Simon were a little bereft of before. Yutie's slight smile upon being told Apollo is going to stand in court tells of a warm history between the two... or maybe melancholic? It's a moment like this that should have been present in the prior game given how important Simon and Athena were (whether that would cheapen him being closed-off I'll have to think about).
SoJ just does a lot of little things that DD doesn't seem to have bothered to do until the last couple cases that help bouy each moment up. The latter definitely has good moments and the overarching story is a nice one, but something about SoJ so far clicks better for me during parts that aren't as closely attached to the main story. I may even be tempted to go through the entire game based on this. Maybe I'll tackle Nick's cases once I'm done with the dorks? We'll see.
While I'm here, I might as well expunge on why it is I find Trucy much better here than in DD and it's pretty simple; she's given a lot more in terms of emotional stakes than in DD. She's a hard-working girl with a grand lineage to carry, and a very elaborate show to keep afloat. Apollo and Athena are shown to care about and support her endeavours. Trucy - seemingly unshakeable as her adoptive father - is put in a vulnerable spot, which we get to see and feel over much more than when she was kidnapped in 5-5. She feels a lot more grounded here, with more strongly established personal motivations and character than before. I thought DD had a fine enough start in 5-2, but had to ditch her in favour of Athena and she never got much to do since. I love Thena to death but even I can see how that's a dirty way to treat a former assistant character.
The gravy boat's rolling strong! I'll see you another night for the trial!

Levi and Maria rode their horses into a small town near the old headquarters. The streets were filled with people doing their daily jobs. Small stalls were set out on the main road, displaying all kinds of fruits and vegetables.
"So, where would you like to go first?" Levi turned to look at Maria with a small frown. He didn't particularly like crowds, but he had to admit the company and fresh air were nice for a change.
"We could look for a tea shop? I was planning on bringing some pastries with us on the way back. Maybe some vegetables from the market and if we're lucky even some meat, so I can cook up some stew tonight."
The corner of Levi's mouth pulled up ever so slightly, it almost wasn't noticeable. Cooking was one of the things Maria naturally excelled in. She would always tell them to eat well to strengthen their bodies. She could be seen as the mother of the squad, a title she actually disliked.
"Let's find out if that tea shop is any good. We can run your errands after." Maria hummed. "Then we'll leave our horses right here and go further on foot." After that was said, Maria threw her leg over her horse so she could get off. She straightened out the fabric of her long dark-blue skirt.
"I've got a feeling we need to go this way." Levi dismounted his own horse and turned to the direction Maria was pointing at. "You have a poor sense of direction, just follow me."
"Oh, I forgot you're like a bloodhound, but for tea." She rolled her eyes. "Damn right."
Maria folded her arms behind her back as she started to follow Levi. Her curious eyes scanned the small stalls and what they had to offer. "Oi, keep up!" Her head shot up to the small man who was now walking in front of her. "How can you walk that fast?" She whined, referring to his short legs.
"I use my feet. You should too." "My legs are short..." "What are you insinuating, brat?" Not once did he turn to look at her, but she knew he was pestering her with the fact that he was almost an inch taller. "You're small." She pouted. "Tell me something I don't know."
"Oh, Levi look! A flower stall." Maria skipped forward to grab his arm and pull it into her chest as she pointed to the stand. Levi flinched at the contact. The soft skin of her firm bust pressed against the white fabric of his blouse. He tried to break away from her grip, slowly pulling his arm back.
"Sunflowers!" She beamed, giving him a toothy smile, her eyes almost fully closed. He couldn't come up with a witty remark, her sudden high-spirited demeanor catching him off guard.
"You should cover those up more." He muttered awkwardly. "Sorry? I couldn't hear what you just said." "Never mind, let's get going. I want to be back at HQ by sundown."
· · ─── · ·
The two of them had found a small tea shop not far from the main road. When they entered, they were greeted by an old lady behind the counter.
"You can go look around, I need to ask something," Maria whispered. Levi gave her a nod and wandered off to look at different herbs the shop had to offer.
Maria walked up to the counter and smiled. "Hello dear, how can I help you?" The greying woman asked. "I'm looking for a rare tea, can you recommend me something?" The woman gave her a mischievous smile as she looked at the raven-haired man who seemed to be studying some herbs. "Is it a gift for your husband perhaps?"
Maria's eyes widened at the woman's remark. She couldn't seem to get the words out. 'Husband?!' "Noo- no, you've got it all wrong." She stuttered. "Ah, just lovers then."
The honey-blonde closed her eyes for a moment. She'd never even thought of Levi as a potential lover. She wasn't even sure if he'd be remotely interested in such a thing. Yes, in her eyes Levi was a handsome man, but she never looked at him as more than a friend.
"It's a gift yes," She muttered, her cheeks now flaming red.
What she didn't know was that Levi had heard their conversation. Although they didn't talk that loud and he was standing a few feet away, he had heard them clearly.
The two of them shared an odd friendship due to their personalities, but then again, the Survey Corps held a lot of different individuals. Hanji had teased him about it relentlessly. What the crazy Squad Leader wouldn't give for them to become lovers. Levi cared for Maria, but relationships weren't up his alley, or so he thought. He just had a rough way of showing he cared. Sharing his feelings had become significantly harder after losing so many people throughout the years. That if he even displayed them at all.
He'd seen many men fawn over the honey-blonde and he would lie if he wouldn't want to bash in their heads for trying. He figured she might have had a past with men, but he didn't want to pry. She ignored most attempts of flirting, resulting in the men not getting any of her attention.
Levi suddenly stumbled upon some tea herbs he would like to add to his collection and he stopped listening to their conversation.
"I've got Jasmine tea with a hint of amber and peach. It's a sweet tea." Maria turned to look at Levi who had his eyes trained on a jar with some kind of black tea. 'Maybe a little too sweet for him?'
"Do you by any chance have any rare black teas?" The woman seemed to be thinking hard as she glid her eyes between the two.
"How about black honey tea. I didn't put it on display." She smiled. "This is a floral black tea, steamed in sweet honey. It's hard to come by these days, and the perfect combination of the two of you." Maria's face warmed up again. She ignored the last sentence and smiled a little. "Let's do that one." "I must tell you, it's a bit expensive dear." "That's alright, 30 grams will be more than enough."
Maria gave the woman her money as she took a small container with the herbs from the counter. The herbs had been a big expense on her budget, just like the woman had mentioned, but Maria didn't mind.
"Did you find anything you like?" Levi looked up and hummed. "Go ahead, I'll wait. I already have what I came for." Maria smiled. "Alright." As Levi walked down to the counter, Maria stared down at the small container. 'I hope he will like this...'
She suddenly remembered the pastries she wanted to get from the bakery. Maria hoped they wouldn't be sold out for the day.
"Hey Levi, do you mind if I stop by the bakery right now?" "Go ahead." He threw back over his shoulder. "I'll be quick, meet me there okay?" The black-haired male hummed a short "Yes." before he heard the door to the shop open and close again. The old woman smiled at him while she packed his tea herbs.
"Thank you." He handed her the money and turned to leave as the old woman began to speak. "She's a lovely, caring young lady, treat her well young man." Levi scoffed and went to open the door. But what he didn't know was that she was referring to the gift Maria had bought for him.
Levi made his way through the crowd while searching for the bakery. His eyes fell upon the small flower stand Maria had pointed to earlier. But now there was only one sunflower left. With a small sigh, he approached the stall and picked up the last sunflower.
"I'll buy this one." He monotonously spoke. The merchant behind the stall frowned. "Only one flower?" "Yes, this one" he growled, obviously annoyed with the man in front of him. "Alright sir, a very well-made choice. These are the best sunflowers around, I'll guarantee you won't find them better anywhere else." The merchant gave him a fake smile as Levi put down his money.
"I don't care, I just want the damn flower old man." The man shut his mouth and gave him back his spare change.
With that said and done, Levi continued to look for the bakery. Not long after he spotted the small woman waiting in front of the building. In her right hand, she held a basket with what he presumed were the pastries.
"Levi!" She smiled as soon as she spotted the grey-eyed man.
"Here." Levi shoved the yellow flower in her free hand. "You bought me a sunflower?" Her eyes grew wide. "Yes, but don't think anything of it. It was the last one, and you were whining to me about those shitty flowers." "Thank you, Levi." Maria gave him the same toothy smile as before.
"Let's get those ingredients for your stew, so we can leave." Levi started walking again, Maria following behind him closely.
· · ─── · ·
After they returned to the old Headquarters, Maria had to make up an excuse for Levi to carry her ingredients to the kitchen, so she could sneak off to his office.
"Hey Levi, could you carry these vegetables to the kitchen? I need to change real quick so I can start making dinner." The small man let out a sigh.
"Oh, you're back." Oruo casually came strutting into the stables. "Where is that Jeager brat, didn't I tell him to clean the stables?" "Yeah, but Hanji took him for some new experiments?"
"Levi?" The man turned to look back at the now pleading woman. "Right. Oruo you will help carry this to the kitchen with me." Oruo now regretted coming to the stables but listened to his Captain anyway. The two men left with their hands full of the freshly bought vegetables.
Maria took this opportunity to sneak into his office. She knew she had to be fast. Levi would surely go straight to his office after dropping the errands. The small woman made sure not to be spotted as she entered his workspace.
His desk was still filled with the paperwork from this afternoon and she reminded herself to help the man with his paperwork after she would be done cooking. Maria searched for an empty piece of paper before scribbling something down on it. She left the small tea container on the empty space of the desk and placed the note next to it;
I bought you this rare black tea. The lady back at the shop told me it's a floral black tea, steamed in sweet honey. I hope you like it.
- Bambi

with @zackastor | the daybreakers : setting traps
fleet summers: I know this sounds so so spoiled for me to say, but I can't believe this pre-empted our hunting trip. -he shoulders his bag better as they walk- Reasonably, of course, I understand. But I intend to whine about it.
Zack Astor: Alright. Just whine quietly. -Zack keeps his eyes fixed on their surroundings, only casting a quick glance at Fleet over his shoulder. He seems cautious- See it as practice.
fleet summers: I don't need any practice whining, I'm incredibly good at -- oh. You mean practice for hunting. Gotcha. -he does lower his volume, though, and tunes in to what Zack's doing, where he's looking, following his lead- Do you think we'll run into them out here?
Zack Astor: -Zack leads the way easily, walking in front of Fleet- It's possible. We're gonna set up traps on their patrol routes. he shoots another glance back You scared, kid?
fleet summers: I mean, a little? I'm not used to this kind of stuff. But that's why I'm with you, and anyhow, if we're liable to be attacked, I should get used to the idea. I can handle defense. -he hops a bit closer to Zack as they walk- I probably won't ever be some big fighter, but I at least want to, y'know. Not endanger other people by being incompetent or thoughtless.
Zack Astor: -Zack's gaze lingers on Fleet for a moment- Good. -he finally nods as they make their way towards a footpath- You'll manage. Not like we're looking for a fight in the first place.
fleet summers: Noo-ooo-ooo, we're not. -he hustles a little more to keep up with Zack's long legs, giving him a sidelong glance- Though there's lots of people in town who think you're always spoiling for a fight.
Zack Astor: Do they now? -Zack doesn't seem surprised or like he's really asking, though he doesn't appear disinterested- People confuse me with Nicki. Happens all the damn time. -He surveys the footpath with narrowed eyes, watching for any signs of approaching Daybreakers- You've ever been in a proper fight? Not with biters.
fleet summers: -snickers at the joke, saying in a warm, entertained hum- I can see that. You two are easy to get mixed up. Must be the similarity in wardrobe. -he frowns at Zack's question, buttoning in his lower lip for a moment before answering- A few. Scuffles here and there, nothing major, although I got jumped and beaten up once when I was in college. Some rugby players took offense to the way I talked to them.
Zack Astor: -he casts another glance at Fleet, letting his gaze linger on the other man- They beat you up, huh? -He says, without any judgement or sneer in his voice- Did you punch them back?
fleet summers: I was minding my own business studying on the bleachers and they started making comments about what I probably wanted to happen to me, since I was in view of all these big rugged sports guys, and I mentioned that they were displacing what they wanted from their dads onto me, which was ... stupid, in hindsight. -he gives a soft snort, shaking his head- They dragged me under the bleachers and did their best to make me regret it. I tried to defend myself but it wasn't too much use.
Zack Astor: -His eyes narrow. For a moment, he doesn't say anything in response, though something in his features seems to almost soften- What did you do after?
fleet summers: Felt real pissed, mostly -- they broke my jaw and it was wired shut for a few weeks. Look, here ... -he lifts his chin, using his fingertips to separate places in his beard on each side of his face to show little scars- I hated that. And then I learned kickboxing. -lifts his eyebrows with a slight shrug, eyes widening for a minute- Not like that would help me much if five rugby guys decided to jump me again, but at least I'd be able to get some good hits in before they ground me up.
Zack Astor: -After Fleet's hand drops, Zack reaches out himself. Using his fingertips to part the surprisingly soft beard hair and get another look at the tiny little scars peppering Fleet's face, barely noticeable if you didn't know what you were looking for- If five guys jumped you now, they'd end up regretting it. -His hand disappears as quickly as it came and he turns his full attention back onto the path- We're gonna set up some tripwires here. Between the trees here, where it's shady and they're not gonna see them.
fleet summers: -Fleet stills when Zack touches him, letting the other man inspect what he's looking for, holding still even after Zack moves away- They would. They'd regret it plenty. -he takes a deep breath to collect himself and listen, attentive- What're they gonna trip? I'm not even sure what half of these supplies we brought are. The Redwood arsenal didn't have any landmines in stock, did it? -he laughs lightly, then pauses- Wait, it didn't, did it?
Zack Astor: Wish it did. Would make this whole fucking shit a lot easier. -Zack drops what he is carrying - a wooden board with nails hammered into it and a bag containing various items. He rummages around and pulls out wire from the bag- You know what a mace trap is?
fleet summers: I don't but can I make an educated guess? -he doesn't wait for Zack to answer, continuing as he points at the board- That thing is like a medieval mace weapon. So we're gonna rig that into a tree, and then when somebody trips the wire, that's gonna come swinging down and slam into whoever it is and perforate them. -he claps his hands lightly to demonstrate- Am I anywhere in the neighbourhood?
Zack Astor: -he looks up from unfurling the wire- Smart boy. It's a simple trap, but it doesn't need a lot of resources and does it's job. Pretty damn good at it, too. -he stands up, working out the perfect spot to rig the board before getting to work- You're gonna secure the wire at ground level. Nice and tight.
fleet summers: -is pleased that he got it right, but doesn't dwell on it at the moment, obeying Zack's orders and setting about tying off the wires to their pegs- Where did you learn this? These kinds of traps are useful now, obviously, but I've never seen anything like this outside of ... well, movies and stuff. Cartoons. -looks up at Zack, watching him for a while- You always seem like you know what you're doing, Zack.
Zack Astor: Yeah, I'm pretty damn good at getting shit done. -he doesn't turn to look at Fleet as he speaks, tying up the board with quick, seemingly practiced movements. He takes a few seconds before he speaks up again- My tours. Sometimes when you don't have the resources, like we don't right now, you make due. And nails to the face are always pretty damn effective. -Zack pats the board, now tied up securely, and now finally turns to look at Fleet and his work- Looks good. We're gonna set a couple of these.
fleet summers: Okay. Now that I know what we're doing it'll go fast. -Fleet doesn't do too much talking as they continue, engrossed in the work and watching the way that Zack does the tree rig part, taking note of the steps- What kinds of places were you stationed, to have to do all this makeshift kind of thing? You seem like you really thrived in the army. I didn't think that was the kind of thing somebody who grew up with money would gravitate to. I mean, there's always exceptions, people who come from military families and all that ...
Zack Astor: -His eyes narrow at Fleet for a moment, as if considering, before he picks up their supplies to scout out another spot- All over the world. Shit going haywire and improvisation tends to be a part of war. -he starts walking again, still keeping careful watch of their surroundings; he speaks again after a few moments- I did thrive. I was pretty damn good at what I did. Still am. I was different from my family. Guess I was just a special guy. -he shrugs, scoffing softly. He doesn't sound bitter- I was better at surviving than them.
fleet summers: Since I'm the only one left of my family I guess that's me, too. Better at surviving. Maybe it's just the Reznik side that has what it takes for the post-apocalyptic world. -he moves closer to Zack, very quickly squeezing the taller man's elbow and pressing his cheek to Zack's shoulder before lightly stepping away again- I'm glad you made it, and I met you. In some weird way you help me feel more grounded, without my proper family. You deal with things the way I do. It's a relief. -he considers, then amends with a smile- ...I don't get in the fights like you, though.
Zack Astor: Guess we both are. -He notices Fleet coming closer. He initially doesn't react much to the contact, or the words for that matter. He doesn't pull away though. Just stares straight ahead as he keeps walking. Just offering a small huff- Yeah. Good thing that you don't. -he quickly clasps Fleet on the shoulder wordlessly, before moving ahead- Let's finish setting up the mace traps before it gets dark.
fleet summers: -they continue their work, getting another couple of traps set up before Fleet gets distracted by a thicket of wild rosebushes- Oh, Zack -- do we have time for this? There's so many rosehips and the ones we have in town are picked bare and we've barely got a couple of handfuls, look how many there are here! They'd be so good for keeping us through the winter, especially since it's hard to get citrus anymore. We need the Vitamin C, we really do.
Zack Astor: -he casts a glance at the rosebush, then towards Fleet- Fucking hell. Right now? -he mutters, but he seems to consider for a moment. His jaw muscles work as he thinks- Fine. Just hurry. The patrol is gonna pass through soon. I ain't getting caught just for some fucking Vitamin C.- he casts a weary glance around, checking both for patrols and potential trap spots, and finding neither, he sinks down onto his knees and begins plucking off rosehips and stuffing them into his bag-
fleet summers: -quietly thrilled, but also he doesn't want to waste any time so he slings his now-empty supply bag to his front- It's worth it, I promise. If we get a good batch in it'll help if we aren't able to go out foraging for any reason. In case the Daybreakers come knocking. -he starts working fast, too, diving into the bushes despite the thorns to get at the thickest distribution of rosehips- If you think it's getting dangerous we'll go, I won't argue. I know you ... I know you have a history with them.
Zack Astor: -he doesn't still for one second, though there is a visible twitch in his jaw muscles at the mention of it- What do you know? -his voice is sharper and more gruff now, a certain tension about him now that the patrol is likely closing in- Did you talk to Nicki?
fleet summers: No, I  didn't talk to Nicki. That's just been what people are saying, especially since you're kind of the crux of the tasks and things. -he only glances over for a minute-
Zack Astor: -he doesn't say much in response initially, seemingly focused on tugging the fruit off of the bush. The thorns leaving tiny cuts on his hands as he pushes deep into the branches- Well, you're damn right not to argue. They'd have a fucking field day with you. -he pulls a handful of fruit out from the depths, plopping them down into his bag- Let's fucking hope they don't come knocking.
fleet summers: -Fleet turns those extremely brief but extremely, distressingly evocative statements over in his head a few times before saying anything- I want us to be safe. I want to help Redwood, and setting traps with you does that but rosehips, they're more my area when it comes to helping. Us being safe is more important than that, though. -he redoubles his efforts, stripping the fruit from the bushes in a fast flurry- I don't know anything. Maybe I should know. If you'd tell me.
Zack Astor: -Zack tugs out another handful of the red fruit, tossing then inside his bag- Good. Keep that up. -he responds, not specifying whether he means Fleet's general efforts to help or his his picking pace. Then, Fleet says something that makes Zack pause in his work for just a moment, casting a sharp, piercing glance over at Fleet, bearing down on the other man's profile- ... -his jaw muscles work, before he gets up, shouldering his bag- That's enough. The patrols gonna be here any minute. And we're gonna be long gone by then.
fleet summers: -yanks his last handful off, easing out from the thick of the bushes, lower and thicker than where Zack is due to his being smaller and able to get in deeper- Yes, Zack. I'm ready to go. -he ties up his bag as he hops to catch up with Zack, the other man already on the move and taking in their surroundings; Fleet waits until Zack seems satisfied with his surveillance before he says, looking over at him- I mean it. If the Daybreakers are dangerous in the way that I've heard scavenger groups can be, you can tell me. Whatever it is that you know about them. I don't believe in flinching away from danger like that, especially because ... -his voice softens, going more gentle though still serious- Especially because I'm not the one in direct danger. Not like you are. I know you've gone through these kinds of things so people like me won't have to.
Zack Astor: -He doesn't meet Fleet's gaze, focused straight ahead as they make their way back deeper into the forest. It takes a moment before he responds- Alright. -after a few seconds, he finally turns to cast a quick glance at Fleet, as if considering, measuring. His gaze isn't hard or hostile, though it seems mostly undefined and slightly wary- I haven't gone through anything for anyone. It's shit that happened. There wasn't a higher purpose to it. -he runs a hand through his hair- Just like you didn't fucked up by some rugby players for some higher purpose. Shit fucking happens.
fleet summers: No, that isn't true. Shit happened because I'm queer and they didn't like that. I don't believe in higher purposes but it did affect me because I'm me, and it changed me. Just like the Daybreakers changed you, and whatever else you've been through changed you. -he reaches out, holding Zack's hand that he'd run through his hair, his own hand locked on Zack's wrist; both dotted with red from the thorns- Every little thing changes us and now, with everything, we're changing together. That's why I want to know. I want to know you.
Zack Astor: Zack seems to stiffen just a little, though he doesn't pull away. Fleet's hands are small and almost delicate in comparison to his own, but similarly red and scratched up, covered in tiny red cuts. Fleet's palms feel soft against his skin as the other man holds his wrist. Zack doesn't turn his gaze downward, instead meeting Fleet's doe-eyed gaze- Okay. -he says, measuredly, as if working out how to handle this. Slowly, the stiffness in his shoulders seems to relax just enough- Alright. Maybe. Think you can live with that? Or are you gonna die of curiosity and go dig it up yourself? -he let's his wrist remain in Fleet's grasp as he speaks, not pulling away-
fleet summers: I can. I can be patient, for a time. -he rubs his thumb against Zack's inner wrist, turning his hand so it slips into Zack's, his fingers curling down into Zack's palm- I would ask other people if I thought it would be useful, but I already know what people say about you. I don't think anybody's account would tell me much. I wanna hear it from you, so, yes, alright maybe.
Zack Astor: -Zack watches as their fingers ever so slightly interlock, curling into each other- Good.  -he considers Fleet for a few heartbeats longer before he pulls his hand away, pushing them into his pockets- Let's get back to town.

oh noo, I can't even imagine waking up at six just to get to school at 9, you poor soul(っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ aw economyyy!! i love it since i already graduated from business, so in the worst case i could try to help you understand 🤗 hope the rest of the day went well?
thank you!! i am, and im so glad for that. I'm taking all my time, truth is i keep on sleeping too much through the day. awh that's quite and interesting experience, in my country they actually in most cases they make you sleep so you wake up after the surgery and then go home in other they send you some injection to not feel pain but it apparently doesn't really help.
i indeed doo!! me and my friend think about that one quite often, but you're just like me fr fr!! no way! i love them too, like nothing better than when someone hit you in 3 am just so you can have weird conversations.i bet we'll have some weird conversations too. (horse rating, that's the first i heard about it) of course i do!! you're such generous sweet person, i think it would be challenge for someone to not feel welcome around you (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤ awww, so cute!! i still didn't even start sweet talking૮⸝⸝> ̫ <⸝⸝ ა
that makes us two, but yeah i completely get you. not seeing or being around any baby will make you less able to handle them, it's a common thing (๑•﹏•) -🐈
I would appreciate help in economy, bc my introduction to economy teacger was crazy (a smart old man who had arguments w a classmate and made me really nervous and umcomfortable, also he said that he didn't belive in anything other than angels). Business sound so hard for me, is just that I feel that economy is a really abstract science.
Changing sleep schedule is so weird, is like another type of lifestyle. And I don't think I would like to go home after an operation, like I would throw a tantrum ( ̄┰ ̄*)
About the horse rating I remember that there was the one from Mulan, Tangled, Toy Story and Spirit, like Spirit was winning w a first place in my two friends list.
You are really good at sweet talking and making people feel good about themselves o(* ̄▽ ̄*)o cat you are an angel (╯▽╰ )

July 2nd - Daniel Ricciardo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based on New Year's Day by Taylor Swift and this request by @spikejonzed
Fluffly, mentions of sex, banter, nothing graphic.
BTW, I don't know how I've never paid attention to this song, it's so so beautiful and honest. I've thought about this concept before though: the "Sunday afternoon effect", when all the excitement of the weekend wears off and you're just hanging out with your friends, laughing about silly stuff, or cleaning up the house after the party. The thing is, the friends that stay till then are the ones you wanna hold on to, and the same goes for lovers. I feel kind of bad... well not BAD but you know, must be hard... when you're famous and rich, to recognize the good ones from the beginning before you give yourself too much away and it's too late.
To be honest with you guys, I think Daniel must feel a bit lonely sometimes. We all do, but to think that people are only interested in you for your fame and money must be tough... something you worked so hard, that you keep dedicating your life to, to think that that thing is the reason for your heartbreak, to your loneliness... It's a two-edged sword, isn't it? Anyway, I wrote this little something with Daniel in mind, hope you guys like it. Hope he finds someone to be like this someday. Hell, hope I find someone to be like this someday. I think everyone deserves that.
Daniel woke up in his bed, no shoes, but jeans and party shirt still on. The light coming through the windows, shining directly on his face, threatening to make his headache even worse. He let out a groan and turned to the side. There's someone on his bed with him. Shit. He just remembered. Last night was the first time he was introducing (y/n) to his friends. His birthday "small get together" (or at least that's what it was supposed to be) was the perfect opportunity for testing the waters and giving the "next step" without making too much fuss about it, after all, they've only been going out for a couple months and with his tight schedule it meant a lot of facetime calls and weekends, but almost no weekdays and routine stuff.
Yet, he was absolutely smitten with her, she was fun and easygoing, passionate about her own work and friends, but still caring and interested in him. They had amazing chemistry, mind-blowing even. But Daniel had lived enough to know that hanging out with someone on the weekends and knowing their best side was one thing, living through daily and mundane stuff was a completely different thing. Where this could go was still a mystery to him and he didn't want to raise too many expectations before he was sure. Still, she looked so beautiful sleeping, a true vision. He tried to remember if something had happened last night, but judging by his clothes still on, and hers as well, he guessed not. As if on cue, she smiled, with her eyes still closed.
"Stop being creepy" she said smiling. "I can feel you watching me sleep"
"You're not even asleep anymore" he smiled and she opened her eyes. He was taken back by her eyes staring directly into his.
"Still creepy though" she laughed, getting closer to him. He held her and they stayed like that for a while.
"Are you ok?" he asked her.
"What do you mean?
"Aren't you hungover, or sick?" he asked again and she laughed.
"Not at all. I have this really weird superpower, you know, I don't get hungover. Ever, actually" she laughed.
"I don't believe you. I have the headache"
"No, it's true. We did drink a lot yesterday, though" she commented.
"Yeah, well, welcome to having Australian friends. No such thing as light drinking with those guys" he laughed but grimaced at the pain in his brain.
"I'll get you something"
"Huh?"
"For the pain" she explained getting up from the bed.
After a while she returned with a pill and a glass of water, passing them to him.
"Thank you, baby" he took the glass, finishing it. "Come back to bed now"
"Your house... like, I'm not even sure if I should tell you to take a look or just pack your essentials and abandon it" she smiled.
"Uhh" he groaned. "I'll call someone later"
"Like a constructor with a wrecking ball?" she laughed.
"It can't be that bad"
"It's bad" she started. "But we can manage it" He looked at her intrigued. "After a shower" she pulled his hand. "Join me?"
"If I ever say no to that question, just put me in an asylum" he said. "I need a kiss though, as motivation" he smirked.
"Noo... I have morning breath"
"What? Me too" he said pulling her down and kissing her anyway. "Uh, no. You're right. Yours is worst" he said laughing while getting up and walking into the bathroom.
"Asshole!" she laughed following him.
They stripped and got into the shower, taking turns in letting the water run through their bodies.
"Come here" Daniel said, putting some body wash in his hands and spreading them over (y/n) body.
"Hum... this feels nice" she said.
"You're so beautiful" he said kissing her shoulder.
"You're so wasted" she laughed lightly.
"Hey! I'm sober. I'm just too tired. Give me a couple hours to recover, and I'll claim my birthday privileges"
"Birthday privileges? It's not even your birthday anymore" she laughed.
"Okay, but first, it's the weekend of, and second, I didn't get any time alone with you yesterday"
"Fair. And what will be your requests, may I ask?" she asked teasingly.
"Humm... you're so creative" he said kissing her. "I'm sure we'll think of something"
They finished the shower after a while, enjoying each other's company and the comfortable silence.
"Did anyone crashed here?" (y/n) asked when they were stepping out of the shower.
"I have no idea" Daniel answered. "I just remembered going to take a nap and waking up this morning. Shit, we didn't... did we?" (y/n) laughed out loud at that.
"Wow! Really, Dan?"
"We did not. I would've remembered"
"Good save. Such a gentleman" she laughed.
"I drank way too much. Sorry. Don't be mad"
"It's fine. I'm messing with you, I don't remember anything either. To be honest, I don't even remember joining you on your 'nap'" she said making air quotes.
"We're the worst hosts" he said getting out of the bathroom and going into the closet to get some clothes.
(y/n)'s heart swelled at the thought of hosting a party with Daniel. There was something so intimate about that statement, so homey.
"You want a shirt?" Daniel asked from the other room, waking her up from her daydream.
"Yeah, sure" she took the shirt, some underwear, and some sweats. Then brushed her wet hair and looked in the mirror. Not a trace of makeup left. She sighed thinking about how falling into a routine with Daniel meant letting the barriers down.
"Alright, snap out of it" she said to herself, getting out of the bathroom and walking outside, to the living room where Daniel was standing rubbing his neck and looking around.
"This is bad" he said when he saw her joining him. There were empty beer bottles and cups all around the living room and balcony, pizza boxes (with half-eaten slices left behind) in the coffee table, party decorations hanging from the ceiling, and the kitchen was even worse, with liquid spilled on the ground and bottles everywhere. There was glitter all over the floor and the couch - someone had brought some of those party poppers, which looked so much fun yesterday, but no so much now. But the best part was the polaroids, left all over the house with the craziest poses.
"Pack your stuff, we're deserting this goddam hellhole" he said and she knew he was joking, he said that about everywhere, but she still shook her head and rolled her eyes, picking a polaroid photo from the ground.
"Everyone had so much fun" she showed it to him. "I loved meeting your friends"
He took the photo from her hand, it was one where (y/n) was sitting on the couch with two of his buddies from Australia, making funny faces while holding cups. He remembered the moment because he was the one who took the photo.
"How's the headache?" she asked him.
"Almost gone"
"Good. So you don't have an excuse. Move your ass, where are the trash bags?" she laughed going into the kitchen.
"Hey! That was very sneak of you" he laughed but followed her anyway.
They spent the next hour collecting bottles, vacuuming glitter, and just cleaning the whole house. Daniel complained the whole time, but in truth, he was very glad to have her there. Sure, he could just ignore the whole mess and hire someone on Monday to clean everything (he probably would still do that anyway, for the heavy cleaning like bathrooms), but it was really nice of her to just stick around, seeming unbothered by the housework. When she finished tying the last trash bag and putting it on the entry hallway she flopped on the couch besides Daniel, who had called it a day some good 10 minutes ago.
"Done?" he asked her.
"I feel like punching you for asking me that" she answered playing annoyed. He lifted his hand in defense.
"What? I did my part!"
"Men" she shook her head. "I'm surprised you haven't complained about being hungry yet"
"Well, I'm starving! Was just waiting to suggest going out, or ordering in"
"Ordering in, please. I don't want to get off this couch any time soon"
Daniel got his phone out to order some food. It was almost noon, so he thought about something like pasta, some carbs would be nice right now. Then he felt (y/n)'s head drop on his shoulder, her hand caressing his arm. It was such a sweet gesture, so understated, he just stopped what he was doing and looked at her.
"What?" she looked at him.
"I'm really glad you're here. Thank you"
"It's nothing" she smiled.
"I don't mean the cleaning. Well, that too. But just, thank you for being you and wanting to hang out with me, you know, after the party"
"I'll always wanna hang out with you, partying or cleaning bottles" she said and leaned in to kiss him. "Happy birthday old man" this made him smile through the kiss.
"Thank you, young lady" he said still smiling. "Let's feed you now, yeah?"
"Please! Let's get some carbs on this house!" she smile.
"Hey, guys!" (y/n) and Daniel looked up to see Luke, one of Daniel's buddies walking out of the guest bedroom.
"Dude! I didn't know you were here" Daniel laughed.
"Yeah, just woke up. Definitely wasn't hiding in the bedroom waiting for the cleaning end to get out" he grinned making (y/n) and Daniel laugh.
"You know what? Just for that, you're going downstairs to pick up the food when it gets here, and taking out the trash!" (y/n) teased him, tossing a pillow from the couch at him.
Daniel just observed while his friend and his girlfriend joked and laughed. He thought about how right now he was enjoying a feeling of contempt that wasn't really natural or much appreciated by professional athletes, but this time felt right to indulge in it. He felt safe like someone's got him, finally. He took (y/n) hand on his and squeezed it three times, he knew this was already a good thing, something to last. She looked at him, she knew exactly what he meant.

I AM DONE WITH MY LAST TWO EXAMS PREP LET'S GO GAYS LET'S GOOOO
it's like 11 pm and I am tired but let's gooo I am so excited
gonna but my On Repeat Spotify playlist okay okay
the first song is literally helpless and Eliza is not having a good time in here I-
lmao, the poor American government dealing with THIS? oh nooo
Neither of them had any desire to wake them, even though it was almost ten AM and all three of the kids rarely ever slept past nine.
And then there is me who could sleep for 12-14 hours uninterrupted through an earthquake. 9am? The fuck?
ah yes hello Eliza...this is normal this is fine
Love how Eliza is like a tiny addition to the Washington family
AYY THIS IS THE SNIPPET YOU POSTED!
Young girls couldn’t be careful enough these days.
If this ain't the most accurate shit I have ever read. Need me some steel-capped boots.
I feel bad for Eliza :(
ah yes...inviting your son's ex who he dumped for a man he was in love with in a previous life for coffee...normal behaviour. very normal.
Jack had always called it his ‘dad voice’, but… he wasn’t so sure that was what it was, not anymore. Not after Alex had snapped to attention every single time he’d used it during the past day.
No, he was beginning to suspect it was more of a ‘military commander voice’ than anything else.
NOW WHY DID THIS MAKE ME ACTUALLY STOP AND STARE I AM SAD
This isn't right...they don't deserve this.
George has their coffee preferences memorized...NEED ME SOMETHING LIKE THAT PLEASE AND THANK YOU
I know nothing about Philip Schuyler is there a particular reason he's struggling so much?
omg yeah...the therapist waiting lists...
People be coming with trauma from 200 years ago I am crying-
“It’s… hard. Getting back to normal will be difficult, but for now, I think it’s enough to hang in there and keep going, right?”
Oh oh, this hit me hard especially after some shit in the past year and ohhh god this.
“You’re right. Maybe we’ll just have to create a new normal.”
Yeah. We'll get there one day. One day.
Oh yeah, the registry and shit. George just be like "So uh I was y'all's first president lmao"
To him, it just sounded like they were fishing for yet another method to prosecute and segregate people.
!!!!! FUCK THE REGISTRY !!!!!! Reminded me too much of how the Cohort had the institute heads register all the downworlders and track them all that shit. (this is from the shadowhunter books)
That power in the wrong hands...fuck I wish they did have a way of proving who is lying and not.
YEAH GEORGE YOU DO YOU LOVE!
Ah yes. They have always been related. Fun right?
JOHN JOHN JOHN LOML JOHN
noo this is breaking me
GOD DO YOU GUYS NOT HAVE SOCIAL MEDIA?? FIND THEM
Being without Alex just left him… empty. Grey. Sunrise wasn’t as beautiful without him by his side, his morning coffee tasted stale on his tongue, his own smile seemed dim to him when he flashed it at himself in the mirror.
oh wow pain wow okay y'know what imma just review literature my heart hurts
OH KID HELLO
Jagger hello!
PROBLEM CHILD AUHISUDHIUIHDVUIHFD
ah yes, major historical moment. noice.
ohhh Jagger is the couple's child who own the cafe.
ANGELICA???? TIS YOU????
LMAO, SHE'S LIKE "fuck the guy" and John's just like "uh..." not knowing the guy is his husband
this is so weird/cool because they are so entangled but they don't know it ahhhhh
aww, he's getting them pastries.
“Pretty homophobic of you to erase my sexuality like that,” he shot back as he set it down.
LMAO I LOVE THEM YOUR HONOUR
JAGGER AND JOHN CONTENT MY BELOVED
you recognize them because you met them 200 years ago :)
YESS HE REMEMBERS THEM!
He wondered if it would feel this odd when he was finally face to face with Alex–because he would find him, without question–but he couldn’t really imagine it. No, finding Alex would be like coming home for the first time, he was sure of it.
My version of the meeting involves a lot of drama and snow and rain. But yes. You will recognize him. I know you will.
JAGGER IS SOMEONE FROM THE 50S AU?? WHOMST??
OF COURSE! JOHN KNOWS HAMILTON WAS WASHINGTON'S SON SO IT MAKES SENSE FOR THEIR REINCARNATED PERSONAS TO KNOW EACH OTHER TOO AND JUST-
AHHHHH
Eliza just met him and oh my god oh my god I am freaking out
John didn’t know why he even asked. He knew everything there was to know about Washington, but… talking about him was almost comforting, in a sense. The man had been more of a father to him back then than Henry Laurens ever had been, and he could admit to himself that he didn’t only miss Alex.
I...Need me some Washingtons with John content please and thank you I miss them.
“Apparently he’s already decided not to get registered and to let the idiots fight over who gets to kin him,”
So sexy of him.
OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD NEED THE GIRLS TO COME BACK PLEASE LEAD JOHN TO ALEX OH MY GOD
I just finished it now I will lie down and think about it for the rest of the night.
LOVED THIS SO FUCKING MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA! THIS WAS GREAT YOU'RE GREAT GOOD NIGHT
so you sent this almost a month ago now but ANYWAY LET'S GO ADHJHDKJHAKJD
lmao helpless 😭
yeah <3 they're useless, your honour!
ashfskhdhf they were raised by Gwash, do you truly think he let's those kids sleep past nine am 😭
hiii Eliza :)) completely normal!
you can never have enough steel-capped boots!
yeah she's not having the best time :/
there's a reason it's usually Martha who opens the door okay. George is fucking useless he knows nothing about people he WILL invite his son's very recently broken up with ex in to have coffee!! what is George if not a grown up himbo
AHDKAJDHKJ EXCELLENT THAT WAS THE INTENTION
of course he does!!!! this man lives to make his wife coffee and he's too much of a dad to not immediately memorise Eliza's too <3
oh it's just because Schuyler was also a general! I don't know anything about him either I just thought I would be spicy and give all the soldiers mental illness :]
therapist waiting lists our beloathed! yeah imagine you're just a random guy and some dude comes into your therapy session who has trauma from being like. guillotined in the french revolution 😭
yeahhhh haha unintentional covid parallels go brrr :')
fuck the registry <3333
oh! I didn't read those but we stan the cinematic parallels ;)
mhh they have no way of knowing who's lying except for crossreferencing! you know, finding people who would have known this person and asking them. and hoping these people are. not lying. which they could be!
JOHN HAS ARRIVED!!!
they do have social media, unfortunately it's hard to find someone without knowing their last name :')
yeah haha. pain!
hi Jagger :)) favourite problem child <3
you are the second person who thought this is Angelica but it's Peggy 😭
John is like "uh sure I guess", unaware that he will interpret "fuck that guy" in an entirely different manner!
yes thank you that was why I was so excited about that idea! them being so connected without knowing it :)
JAGGER AND JOHN MY FAVOURITE SURROGATE SIBLING DUO
of course he will recognise Alex <33
AHDGJHD JAGGER IS NO ONE SPECIFIC THEY'RE JUST A LITTLE GUY
yeah!! John's family is the exact same now as they used to be back then, so he has good reason to believe Alex is Washington's son again!
wanting Washington & John content is like searching for water in a desert, it's harrowing and depressing! but I think there will be reincarnation au content with Them :)
they really need to come back I am fucking blue balling myself at this point. just come back and give John Alex's number I am begging you (she said, with no intention to make it happen)

Sober pt.2
It's finally here my dudes! After months of neglect, several sleepless nights of trying to come up with an idea and eventually bringing in @penny4yourthot in to assist, we happily bring you Sober pt.2! - Red_w00dy xoxo
P.s if you haven't read the first part of Sober, the link for it is below :)
*******************
“You. Stupid. Junkie. Piece. Of. Shit. Get the fuck out of here before I put a fucking bullet in your skull. And if I hear that you, or any of your little friends, ever sell junk to my baby sister again, I will personally hunt you down and murder you using nothing but a pair of tweezers and a razorblade. You understand me, Charlie?”
I opened my eyes and blinked a few times to focus properly, only to see Happy kicking the living shit out of Charlie as Herman kneeled over the drug dealer, their faces just a few inches apart from each other. A weak groan escaped my lips and I rolled over on the floor of Charlie's apartment, causing Happy and Herman to stop what they were doing to rush over to me. I knew I was in trouble with them, no amount of heroin could make me forget that, but in that moment they appeared to feel nothing but worry and concern for my well-being. I gave them a weak smile, stretching my arm out from where it had been tucked into my side. Happy seemed to think I was trying to hold his hand, and grasped my own in his large one until I pulled it away, only to reach past him once more to try and grab the needle resting on the coffee table behind him. Herman shook his head and moved the needle further away, tears pricking at my eyes and threatening to spill over as I desperately tried to move in order to retrieve it. My body was aching from the come down I was experiencing from my previous high, and I was in no fit state to move from my spot on the floor. Herman sighed and carded his fingers through my tangled blonde locks, crouching down so that his dark blue eyes met mine and he flashed me one of his megawatt smiles. I had no idea what he was so happy about, he was the sole reason I couldn't be happy myself right now.
“You're lucky Juice could trace Charlie's phone and find his address, Ana. You ever do that to me again and I will personally kick your ass up and down the street, just like Mom always threatened to do when she caught me smoking as a kid,” Herman whispered, still smiling despite the fact he was threatening me. I blinked at him in response, having no clue how to reply.
“I just needed one more hit. Just a little one to help me sleep. I figured you would understand, you had the whole insomnia thing when you were coming off crystal,” I slurred, my stomach churning violently as I leaned forwards and Hap managed to put a bucket under my chin before I proceeded to throw up the contents of my stomach.
“One more hit, just one more fucking hit! That's what you've been saying for the past two years, Anastazja, and it never is. You always need another one, and it always ends up with me and Hap finding you smacked out of your head on the floor of some drug dealers house, begging us not to yell at you. It's not fucking good enough. I'm sick and tired of constantly worrying about you, girl! I've got my own shit to deal with without having to constantly chase around after you as well!”
“Then don't bother,” I mumbled quietly, both Happy and Herman struggling to hear me due to the fact my voice was slurred and barely audible. I gathered all my strength to push myself into a sitting position, looking up at the older men through hooded eyes. “I never asked you to do any of this shit. If you're gonna complain, don't fucking bother, just leave me to get on with my own life.”
“And have to bury you next to Mom years before I'm supposed to? Fat chance of that, Ana. You're gonna come with me and Hap, sort yourself out and get off this shit once and for all. And if that means having someone watch you constantly, no connection to the outside world and not even a nickel to your name then so be it. We're going to make you go cold turkey whether you like it or not,” Herman glared, pulling me roughly to my feet before dragging me out of the small, messy apartment with Hap close behind us, glaring at Charlie as we left.
The car ride back to Charming was spent with Herman lecturing me. I toned it out as I was nodding in and out of sleep, still coming down from my previous high. When I heard the car stop I opened my eyes and looked around, not recognizing where we were. “Where the hell are we?” I questioned with a tired voice.
“This is Chibs place, he volunteered the first shift of watching you because he felt bad that you got away under his watch. He has a spare bedroom that’s empty and this way we can keep you away from all the partying at the clubhouse” Herman stated.
Happy opened the door and helped me out of the tow truck. He kept his arm around me as he guided me to the front door of Chibs house. Chibs opened the door and Happy guided me in. Once I felt the cold air in the house, I instantly starting shaking. They must have noticed because they walked me to the couch, putting a thick blanket around me once I sat down and got myself comfortable. ”Thanks,” I muttered.
“Chibs, are you all good here? Clay needs me and Hap back at the clubhouse!” Herman called out to the older Scot.
“Aye, we’ll be fine here, lad,” Chibs responded as he walked out of the room. “Your sister’s no going anywhere fer noo. The door is staying locked and,” Chibs came back to where I sat, a stern expression on his weathered face and his hand outstretched in front of him. “Give me your phone as well while I think aboot it.”
“I’m a grown ass women, you're not taking my damn phone.”
“Last time I left ye wi’ yer phone ye called yer drug dealer and these two found ye almost dead, passed out in his goddamn house. No more fighting, I’m no in the mood for it, just give me the damn phone” he argued. His eyebrows were knitted together in frustration and the more I looked at him, the more I realised. Chibs wasn't mad, he was just tired of having people argue with him constantly. So I gave in.
“Fine, but what if need something?” I asked as I disgruntledly handed over my cell phone.
“Chibs will be with you all day” Happy ruffled my hair affectionately, throwing his arm around my small shoulders to give me a light hug before ambling off in the direction of the front door.
“And we'll be here to check on you tonight, as well, Ana Banana,” Herman finished as he kissed the top of my head, clapped Chibs on the shoulder in what I assumed was a thankful gesture and swaggered out of the small, two bedroomed house in pursuit of his best friend.
Chibs disappeared once again, only to come back with a bottle of Gatorade, some Tylenol and a bucket. He handed me the pills along with the open bottle and I took them with one sip.
“Ye need to drink more lass,” he sighed as he handed the Gatorade back to me. “Dehydration isn't going to help you when yer coming off smack of all things.”
“I don’t want to get sick” I said through chattering teeth as the shakes got worse. He looked at me and lifted up the bucket with a smile, causing a weak chuckle to escape from deep inside my chest.
“That’s what this is fer,” he grinned. I took a small sip of the blue liquid, watching as Chibs got up from the couch and made his way to the front door to lock it. It might have been the drugs left over in the system, or the fact the withdrawals were kicking in big time, but for whatever reason, I couldn't stop staring as he shifted both deadbolts and the generic lock that came with the door.
“You have three locks on your front door?” I smirked as he sat back down, the older man nodding in response with a small shrug of his shoulders as I giggled quietly. “So do you have a stalker or what? I think I should know what I'm getting into here.”
“I wish a stalker were my only worries, hen. Nah, just some people from my past life showed up here in Charming a while back. They’re gone fer noo tho,” He muttered as he reached for the tv remote and turned the large television screen on, instantly turning the volume down to barely audible as if he could sense the small pounding in the back of head that was steadily getting worse with every passing minute.
We sat in silence for a while, the shaking turned into sweating which caused me to become even more cold. Chibs got me another blanket and wrapped me up and then held his arms around me in attempt to warm me up and stabilize my body from all the shakes. I have to admit is was nice to have someone here to help me through this. There had been too many times that, on the rare chance I decided to come off heroin, that I was alone and cold. There was more than one occasion that Herman and Hap had founded me curled behind a dumpster somewhere in Tacoma, using a cardboard box and newspaper to keep myself warm, because I had spent all my rent money on junk again.
“Th-thanks for d-doing this” I shivered, nestling further into Chibs’ side in an attempt to soak up some of the Glaswegian’s warmth. “I-I really a-appreciate it.”
“Aye, lass, dinnae worry about it. We're all family in the club, we look oot fer our own” he said softly as he brushed some hair out of my face, his eyes flitting to a picture of a considerably younger version of himself, along with a tiny bundle of blankets and a beautiful, dark haired woman, before looking back at me with a smile. “We'll always keep an eye oot for ye, Anastazja. Even if ye do steal people's favourite Celtics shirts.”
We sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes, neither of us feeling the need to say anything, until I felt my stomach start to lurch and I started to gag. Chibs was quick with the bucket he had brought into the room earlier, placing it in my lap just in time for me to throw up what little contents left inside my stomach. He held my hair out of my face in a makeshift ponytail as I continued to vomit, a worried smile taking up residence on his lips as he used his free hand to keep the bucket steady.
“God, I feel much better now,” I croaked quietly once I was sure I was done, leaving Chibs to take the bucket away and pass me the Gatorade so I could rid the taste of vomit out of my mouth. “If you ever meet anyone that doesn't hate throwing up, they are freaks of nature and deserve to be thrown into an asylum.”
After a deep laugh that echoed around the living room, Chibs took the bucket away, only to return a couple minutes later with it all cleaned out.
“You didn’t have to do that I could have taken care of it” I mumbled softly, burying myself further into the mass of blankets that surrounded my thin body.
“Believe me when I say it's absolutely no problem at all, wee hen,” he smiled back as he dropped down next to me, returning his arm to where it had previously been resting around my shoulders.
I managed to muster up a weak smile as I rested against his chest once more, listening to his heartbeat thumb periodically and feel his fingers move to play with the ends of my dirty blonde hair. The shakes had started to subside at this point and, with the soothing sound of his heart pumping away next to my ear and the way he combed the tips of his fingers through my hair, I slowly drifted off to sleep, unable to think of anything but how sweet Chibs was, and how grateful I felt that he was so willing to take care of me after what I did. Clearly some people were just better than others - Chibs and I were the perfect example of that.
