Mixed thoughts about the dunmeshi collab event so far. There’s a lot of missed potential, I think a lot of people have been talking about that, in terms of like. Deeper engagement with the really interesting common ground these two stories have, or the chance to take a note from Ryoko Kui’s focus on how ecology underlies things we might take for granted, or interesting character parallels and connections between AK and dunmeshi characters.

They seem to have gone for a comedy vignette style instead, which is a little bit of a shame, but not an unreasonable choice for a collab, leaning toward the tone of the first few chapters of dunmeshi and not tipping the hand on how it evolves.

The quality is pretty varied.

So far as I’ve played, the Acahualla and Rim Billiton chapters are boring. They don’t lean deep enough into the ecology of Terran animals or connect them to one another—seems like they’re doing a lot of making it up on the spot and just saying stuff. It’s a bit like the Tales series worldbuilding quirk where they’ll just tell you about something that exists somewhere in the world and make no other connections, but with less charm. Doesn’t capture the source material. I liked the flashlight bit though.

The Sami chapter was ass. There was such an interesting angle to connect Senshi’s worldview with the Sami way of life—eat or be eaten, we’re all animals, knowledge and familiarity with the land is king in the wild—in a way that could really get to the heart of Dunmeshi’s themes while keeping it light, but they didn’t do anything with it. Them eating the collapsals is a terrible move. Senshi would never let that happen, and it breaks investment in the story—like what happened to them after? Did that shit happen? It’s dumb.

But the Big Bob chapter and the Who is Real chapter were excellent. We get a little insight into how people in the wastelands of Terra do things, and the idea of farming originium slugs and having to prepare them in super specific ways was really cool and a great use of the collab. Similarly, Laios finding his way out of the painting by looking at the ecology and comparing it to the dungeon, seeing it doesn’t close its own loops and animals don’t behave in reasonable ways? It’s peak. The idea that ink spirits ferment fruit in their guts bc they don’t have a proper digestive track is awesome. That he was able to find his way out bc Dusks’s paintings are founded on a narrative emotional and interpersonal logic (she’s an artist) and not a logistical ecological logic like the mad sorcerer, and that Laios is the kind of guy who’s notice? Perfect.

Cautiously excited for the Seaborn chapter. It could be super stupid, it could be peak, there’s no way to tell. Decent event so far, but not the best.

The Tri-Kingdom AU splits from the original story toward the end of Descendants 2.

Mal has been convinced to come back to Auradon, but her effort to return to the Isle of the Lost has shaken Ben considerably. He hadn’t noticed the pressure she was under, which makes him consider if the other VKs have ever felt the same, and if any future VKs he wants to invite over would experience that same pressure, or worse. And he reflects on how out of place he felt on the Isle. It pushes him to decide on an amendment to his original plan to invite the children of villains to attend Auradon Prep.

Ben contacts two other schools in the United States of Auradon; Neverland Academy, and Camelot Heights, whose principals (Wendy Darling and Merlin respectively) agree to work alongside Ben to provide the best chance for rehabilitated villain kids. And thus the new education plan for VKs is created. They will start at Auradon, be given a trial week, and then are given the choice to stay full time, or move on to Neverland Academy where they will be given another trial week, and so on, with Camelot Heights being the final option. Should they reach the end of their Camelot week without prior choice, they are given a choice of all three schools, or a return to the Isle of the Lost. But no one would choose to go back there… right?

(When the barrier is removed for good at the end of D3, Dragon Hall becomes a fourth option for all VKs and AKs of schooling age.)

About the creation:

Working title coined from the central 3 kingdoms; Auradon, Neverland, and Camelot.

I made the first few OCs when I was 14 with the tone and quality of the original movie series in mind, and have kind of just expanded and kept it going since. The AU itself was further finalised after D2 came out. D3 influenced it a little, more towards the events at the end of the series, and Rise of Red influenced a single character’s name and nothing else (I will be so honest, I watched the movie and disregarded most of it). It was additionally inspired by the Melissa De La Cruz books.

Things that happen at home:

I had a very good birthday yesterday…went to a coin expo and geeked out with my dad, I bought a proof set of Irish and Norwegian currency (pre euro, nothing wrong with modern coins but it’s just neat to see what used to be minted) found a proof set of Vatican coins that were probably just novelty but it’s still cool (minted 1952)

There was a very nice gentleman who sold antique 925 silver jewelry that I bought a few sets of vintage clip on earrings from.

I’m going to pause, and preface this story with the universal truth that being patient and kind will pay off in the end.

Anyway, the first time I’m going through the jewelry that Very Nice Gentleman has to offer, it’s my first circuit of the whole expo, I want to budget accordingly, and there might be something that Pops Out to me later that I Just Have To Have. So I spend my first $70, circle around (I’ve been coming to this specific expo for about three years now so I recognize the vendors who have what I like) pick up my proof sets, and land back at Very Nice Gentleman’s booth.

I tell him straight up “Well, you guys definitely have the best jewelry selection in the whole expo.”

VNG: Oh, you should see the whole three boxes of stuff that I brought and haven’t even priced yet. I’ll sell you anything you want by weight.

Me: *spends the next hour helping an 80+ year old man sort literal sandwich bags full of antique silver jewelry, talking shit about living in New Mexico, and learning a fuck ton about Native American artist stamps, while his son (50s, economics professor in Fairbanks AK, talked shit about living in Alaska with him as well) checks on us periodically*

My dad, in the middle of all this: *catches my attention* Hey. Doin’ alright?

Me:…wanna see what your birthday present to me looks like?

My Dad: …yeah, alright. You like the same kind of stuff my mother did, so it’s at least going to be interesting. *proceeded to buy exactly one bracelet that was made out of “plantation 1948” silverware because “the only good thing that’s come out of the South in the last 50 years is their food. I hate the way they vote but good god they make some AWESOME ribs.”*

Me: *spends another 30 minutes sorting jewelry with VNG before birthday calls start coming in, I’m getting hungry, SO and mom and siblings all want to meet up, Dad is mia* hey, I need to check out or pay up, I’ve got my family wanting me, so I need to take off now.

VNG: Oh, yeah, let’s get you started then. *proceeds to ring up my purchases in the most painfully slow manner possible because he’s 80+ and all analog* (literally he had a calculator that printed out the receipts, it had a bunch of finger grime on the number keys, he’d clearly been using it for decades, honestly it was so awesome but super frustrating)

Me: *being patient, being nice and kind and friendly, regardless of the situation*

VNG: *rings me up, gives me my total, then WINKS and throws in a $50 pair of vintage clip-on, lapis lazuli with gold inlay earrings*

Me: *KARMA, BITCH! Be fucking nice to people All The Time Regardless of Circumstances!!!! VINDICATION!!!*

My Dad, after I found him again and told him the factual events: Sweet deal! Sometimes I’m actually glad when you don’t listen to me!

My dad’s advice to all of you would be “don’t ever say anything, at all if preferably, but only give yes or no answers to anyone who works in insurance or government.”

whats your favorite song from arknights? out of the eps i think my favorite is lee's theme or lessen's theme. out of the boss theme's its by far the lingering echoes boss theme, with control's wishes coming in second. both songs are so incredibly good at getting across the feelings they're meant to convey, at least to me.

Hmm... probably Shu's. At least when it comes to operator themes.

There's a lot of good songs, so it's hard for me to pick only one. And how I feel about the songs depends on the day; I can think "Control's Wishes" is the best boss theme, but on another day, I'll think "Towerfierce" is the best song to get hype to and they haven't managed to top that since. Or I'll think Starset's contributions sound the best even though they're not officially AK songs.

However, my favorite event soundtrack in general is So Long, Adele. I just love that retro city pop vibe. Good for my ears all-around.

"Bunny, You alright there sweetheart?!" Tanner called out from across the desert. The ex-navy seal stood at the staggering height of six feet and four inches tall, with shaggy chestnut-brown hair, a Greek god-like chiseled build, and a babyish face that was fresh of any facial hair. One of the Mayans stood in front of him with the end of an AK-47 pressed against the back of his curls.  "Alright, you got our girl and we got your guy. Bring us the girl now!" Ordered Riker, A heavily tattooed blonde with wild, piercing blue eyes. His sun-kissed skin was covered in thick layers of ink. Toned and Muscular but not nearly as buff as his best friend. He had platinum blonde hair that was cut short into a sleek back mohawk. His trigger finger itches to unload his M4-carbine into the low lives before him, "Give her to us you fucks!" "Y-yes! I'm okay! Just be cool guys please," She called out with teary eyes and a pleading tone as she stood behind Manny. The tall and lanky male rested his hand against her shoulder as he led her to them. His touch sent unexplainable shivers down her spine. He provided her with this unspeakable security.  "Don't shed no more tears, muñeca, everything's gonna be alright."He whispered raspily and Bunny slowed down her shaky breaths.  "Thank you, Manny." She said in a soft tone that held a delicate whisper to it. His warm hand only squeezed her shoulder in response. Tanner nudged the captive Mayan forward as soon as Bunny was in arm's reach. Bunny went rushing into Tanner's arms and hugged him by the waist tightly. His large hand patted her back and gripped her waist with one of his hands despite holding his gun in the other.  "Fucking wetbacks," Riker seethed before he had unleashed the bullets from his gun. The thought of them doing anything to His and Tanner's girl caused an animalistic rage to boil within him. The man wasn't a stranger to using Mexicans as target practice either. He'd done horrific things to them in his military days and wanted to do worse now. Tanner followed along with his friend and shot forward until Bunny intercepted. "NO! No Riker stop!" Bunny screamed in horror as she watched the Yuma men drop. Without giving her actions much thought, she rushed in front of Manny who had dropped.   "Bunny what the fuck?!" "Get the hell up and away from him, woman!"  "No!" she cried as she sat on her knees beside him. He'd been shot in his knees and shoulders. "This is wrong!  He protected me, He's got a child to go home to for Christ's sake! You can't kill him! I won't let you." Both men gripped their guns tightly as they looked from her to one another. Silently debating with their eyes. "Tanner please…" Bunny pleaded with her more reasonable lover. "Alright sugar," The brunette sighed before shaking his head and slowly began lowering his weapon, "Put it down, Rike." "Fuck." Riker spat in annoyance before lowering his weapon, "Looks like it's your lucky day wetback." he smirked down at Manny, sinisterly. Despite coughing up blood and wheezing, Manny's eyes were stuck in a cold glare towards the redneck. "I'm so sorry, "Bunny whispered as she placed her hand against his cheek. The rumbling of motorcycle engines could be heard in the distance getting closer and closer. The pair held eye contact for a few lingering moments before the plump woman was snatched up by her blonde-haired lover and thrown over his shoulder. "Time to go princess," Riker announced as he pushed her into the backseat of the Jeep. "Move out! They're getting close." Riker hollered as he sent shots into the air in an attempt to prologue how close the Yuma biker gang was getting. Tanner did as told, placing his foot harshly on the gas pedal, and sped off through the desert. 

And months after the events of that weekend happened, Manny couldn't help but let his mind wander off to the bubbly, free-soul, beautiful brown-skinned brunette that saved him. Even when he was safely home with his daughter and family, he wondered how she was. If she was okay, how she looked, and most of all...He wondered if her lips felt as soft as they were when they'd kissed the night before the trade-off. What he didn't know was that she thought of him as well.

Finished chapter 14. Messy thoughts:

The Good:

- I liked the conclusion a lot more than the conclusion of the first arc

- Very interested in the Priestess atm

- Wisadel was pretty fun. Logos was pretty cool

- Nadine is interesting, I would like to see more of her

- I think it tied together the different plotlines and developments of the Victorian arc well

- I’m still distrustful of the Sarkaz narrative but bc things didn’t completely burn down I will continue to hold my tongue

- Bc it was told over 23 nodes instead of 9-10, reading felt less like a slog (also I was able to take my time with it instead of trying to read it all in 2 days)

The Bad

- I still feel kinda shaky on Theresa’s character and agency. Also given other comments I saw online I think her true motives could have been demonstrated better

- I disliked how easy the stages were. I know that this is a limited event and newbies need to be able to clear but this is also like a major turning point in the overall plot of AK (which newbies shouldn’t be reading) so the combat feeling like a wet blanket takes a lot of wind out of its sails

- Tho it did its best, I still feel like the cast of this arc is way too bloated. I honestly forgot that Saileach was in this arc at all with how little she mattered in the end

- I say this as someone who likes Manfred: Ascalon should have been allowed to do something to him. So far it feels like her assassin powers falls apart whenever it’s not a faceless NPC, which makes her somewhat less cool

- Theresis…? Idk where we’re going with this man.

- During the Doctor’s Originum Dream section, we saw a bunch of characters the Doctor didn’t really know or care about (Allerdale and Baird as examples)….Why?

- The Civilight Eterna Reveal. It feels very thinly like they just wanted “Canon Playable Theresa”

The Mixed

- Theresa and Frostnova I feel like parallel each other a lot when it comes to their decisions to fight us as a test. Shame I didn’t really care about either to the extent that the game wanted me to so I wasn’t really broken up about fighting them/them dying

- We could have gotten more from The Followers. Actually we should have gotten a proper event for them a while ago but also they just need more in general

- It kinda feels a little easy how RI was able to get the KMC and Victoria to walk away from each other with no one stirring the pot but the arc needs to end on a somewhat hopeful note so I get it

And that’s it! I honestly don’t really think that Kazdel & Theresis alone could carry a whole chapter arc (also I think it’ll be a while until we’re able to confront the Priestess). An Anni event yes but I don’t think any more focus on just the Sarkaz is necessary atm (idk maybe I’ll be proved wrong). Since they do have an RI monitor, I do hope we get a playable Damazti when we get another Kazdel event though.

For the next major story arc, whenever that comes, I would honestly love for us to finally get focus on Ursus. I’m dying to know what HG has planned for that nation and I want to meet Neon.

Anyway imagine that Jason used to be readers best friend before he disappeared (both had feelings for each other but never said anything because typical dumb teen behavior) but now he's back [before the AK events like in the comics where he just kinda observes Batman and what he's doing in Gotham] and he's also been keeping an eye on reader from afar. He swoops in sometimes to save them from getting mugged and they have this little acknowlegement of each other, reader even tells him that he reminds her of Jason without knowing that that's Jason. One thing leads to another and things get spicy, could be with reader knowing that it's Jason or he could keep it a mystery 👀 I just really like tension lol

january 19 2025

today might be just a simple sunday but it was a beautiful one. i woke up with 8 hours (finally after how many days huhu) and as always, waking up to the beauty of SING ME coupled with the window view of the sunrise sky - i knew it was gonna be another well lived day. made scrambled eggs for breakfast before doing tindera duties past 7am. took some time to read again girl in pieces forda pahinga ng aking laptop. then had a videocall with ate jem and denmark since today is dday na bday cafe event hopping niya. it's been awhile since naka video call ang mga badeng. 🫶

after lunch, since di pa rin ako mapakali sa concert outfit as if my life depended on it so much, sinukat ko na yung green cargo pants then black top. bet naman except yung top talaga hanap na lang me sa ukay. also been contemplating if taking fancams will be a good thing for my 2nd day6 concert. bcs honestly, the best concerts i had were those less fancam, only audio record and lots of vibes. like what day6 youth and the 1975 concert did to me. it still amaze me until this day as i recall myself just enjoying the entire moment without filming it. hays. bahala na.

the rest of the day was spent productive as a writing tindera. i felt so satisfied coming up for the chapter of still there, afraid and come as you are. tas meron na ako forda ending part. ewan i just feel good about this story. i want to cry. as i worked on it, i played random day6 live fancams on the side until i found a compilation of each comeback's teaser. ghad negentropy's comeback film with letting go instrumental still makes me 🫠🫠🫠

then i saw the photos ate jem took today during her trip which made me reflect on something ---- bakit kaya di na ako naiinggit? it felt so nice when i asked chatgpt about it. seeing how my daily gratitude journal, manifestation and better mindset showed this progress in a short period of time super thank you talaga Lord. made a separate journal post about that thought tho. ang cute lang talaga. keep it up self.

“A Stunning Read” - Newstalk. Indeed, it is.

■ If you love the works by Khaled Hosseini, you have to read this book. If you empathise with reading “Burned Alive” and “The Stoning of M. Soraya”, you will appreciate this book.

Love, anger, compassion, cruelty and more, are the flavour of life. This book took you on a journey. A glimpse of all the major events in Iraq and of its people. Of the local family system. Of the society’s hierarchy. Of the wars in the 40s, 60s, early 90s and of the revolution in the early 2000s. These chaotic conditions were the streaming backgrounds of the characters’ lives. The book indirectly highlighted the rumours surrounding crises in the Arab world. .

■ Originally authored in Arabic by Muhsin Al-Ramli, it was well-translated by Luke Leafgren. To me, the narration is flawless. In the first few chapters, it seems like a typical Arabic style of storytelling. As we go on, the content is not all over the place. It is well structured. It is deep, but not too deep. Like the curtains of our sights were lifted one at a time. All the small details meant something.

It is thought-provoking yet, did not burden too much. Borderline is gruesome and not. Slight adult content. Well-balanced emotions-play. Everyone is the protagonist in their own lives. Then, when their lives intertwined with others, it created another main story.

■ It began with the discovery of 9 heads found in a banana crate in a small village away from Baghdad, Iraq. One of the heads belongs to Ibrahim the Fated. And the story revolves around the people close to him during his lifetime.

When the President’s Garden was first revealed, I was still cruising, at best, I suspected a few jump-scares and “over-the-top wealthiness”. After time spent in the garden, never I imagined that I would be as shocked as the character was. Unexpectedly, arriving at that one scene, my jaws literally dropped. I was stunned, that I needed a few moments before resumed my reading. And moving forward, the penmanship never stops to impress us. It is amazing how complex this novel is, yet the author manages to convey them nonchalantly. .

■ Apart from the praise-worthy penmanship, what I like about this book is that, subtly, it calls out the wrongful things people did in the name of religion. Unlike “Burned Alive”, in displaying the barbaric, uncultured, materialistic human nature, this book also clarifies that those actions have nothing to do with Islam.

One more thing, the cover design is brilliant. At one glance, it looks like a typical Middle Eastern art with a peacock and swords to boast one's wealth. When you look again, you will notice more details, the hand grenades, bullets and AK-47. Good colour scheme, too.

■ The author played with our emotions till the end of the chapter. There is a sequel to this book titled: "Daughter of the Tigris" I do not have it, yet. But I am very much looking forward to it! I know, it will be as good as this one, if not more.
