^^^^ This is such an excellent description of the movie. Every last bit of it, from the animation, to the characters, to the plot, and the "romance" is perfection.
"It's in the gravity falls director's commentaries, I trust his take."
Why the hell would you do that?
He's literally a rando nobody, with an opinion worth nothing, and the animation design of his own show is shit. Why would you let anyone tell you what to think about anything, let alone a piece of media you've never seen?
"I trust his take." To what end? To never bothering with it? A thing you still have zero concept about? What is the point of "trusting his take," or anyone's take? What does that even mean? Why are you in the position of needing to "trust" it? That's such an irrelevant concept, it just does not match reality.
Nevermind the fact that he's a rando nobody and his opinion counts for nothing.
Watch the show or don't, but there's nothing to "trust."
Also his take is laughably wrong. He either has a childish beef with something about the show, or zero literacy on a children's film, and that's incredibly unimpressive.
You all need to stop putting un-special people on pedestals and letting them think for you.
Following the author of The Last Unicorn on Facebook is the only thing that makes being on that site worthwhile.

I still can't get over lucanis at the end of the wigmaker job -- having limped his way down the docks, nursing several broken ribs, dripping rivers of blood (some of it his own. most of it not) onto the floorboards before the innkeeper's horrified and irate eyes, having just Faced the Horrors frfr and cut a bloody swath through a party of tevinter high society as if setting out to contemptuously prove poe's red death a mere piddling amateur, in his fucking batman-ass black leather overcoat getup, presumably woozy with blood loss and fading adrenaline -- just standing there sadly like '🥺is my cousin here'

currently entranced by the mental image of santos, in a moment of drunken uncharacteristic honesty, unloading about her insane dyke drama to Whitaker (was gonna try and make himself some mac and cheese and is now a little scared to try and leave the kitchen). he is, of course, helplessly confused - you like women?? you hooked up with a senior resident???? is that even allowed - (GOD huckleberry yes you’re allowed to sleep with a senior resident if you’re not a total stick in the mud. keep UP already jeez). once the seal has been broken there’s no going back tho. he’s the only one completely in the know and he keeps asking santos extremely poorly timed questions, so now an established part of their roomie life is Whitaker getting WAYYY too much detail on exactly how stupid the gay women at this hospital can be and santos mourning the time when she had the dignity to live through this kind of drama in silence.

WARDI WRITTEN LANGUAGE (BASICS).
Tumblr media
Couya's full name (properly 'Haidamane Couya') written formally and with common handwriting conventions.
The Wardi written language derives from earlier proto-language systems consisting exclusively of logograms without direct phonetic meaning or grammatical structure. These symbols gradually became simplified and abstracted to the point of many having little intrinsic clarity, and combined to communicate abstract concepts.
The development of a full written language did not occur independently (as very few written languages do), and its phonetic elements (namely its use of syllabograms) were largely derived the 'ancient' Burri writing system, gradually synthesized with native writing conventions, and in the contemporary forms a wholly distinct system. The language's Relatively universalized form is a very recent phenomena, developing within the past two centuries with the region's conquering/unification into a single entity.
The contemporary written language is a mixture of logograms and syllabograms. It is read from right to left and arranged in horizontal columns. The most formal variant of this system contains each character within a square outline, usually separated by a small space. This outline confers little phonetic or symbolic information beyond making distinction between syllables exceptionally clear, and can be (and often is) omitted in handwriting. The separation of words is conveyed through a narrow rectangle or line in formal contexts, and again often omitted in handwriting (instead indicated instead by a wider blank space).
The pure logograms that have been retained in this writing system tend to be those of very common words or specific concepts (most logogram characters for types of livestock, key crops, water, major body parts, etc are widely recognized and in common use). There has not yet been any attempts to fully 'formalize' the language and omit potentially unnecessary logograms, and they remain frequently used as shorthand while conveying the same semantic information.
Many of the syllabogram characters are directly derived from logograms that depicted monosyllabic words. For example, the spoken word 'gan' means 'cow', and the character for the syllable 'gan' is identical to the common logogram for 'cow'.
The name Gantoche (literally "cow-eye") could be written either fully with syllabograms as:
Tumblr media
or through logograms as:
Tumblr media
Both ultimately communicate the same meaning, but the former clarifies pronunciation (the words gan and atoche are contracted, it's gantoche and not gan-atoche).
It is a relatively easy written language to learn, as the pure syllabogram characters indicate their own pronunciation with little ambiguity and often have consistency to their construction (ie the character for the syllable 'man' contains most of the same elements as that for the syllable 'wan'- the dot placement in particular has indication of the vowel sounds).
The inclusion of logograms in general and many of the syllabic characters being directly imported From logograms complicates matters. These characters lack visual consistency, and can be confusing to the large swath of the public who know common logograms but not the full written language itself. Ie: the word 'ungande' meaning 'liver' will be composed of logogram-derived syllable characters for 'un' (which alone means 'hand') and 'gan' (which alone means 'cow'). Someone who is only semi-literate in common logograms may be confused at the meaning, especially since these same exact same characters may be used elsewhere on their own to indicate 'hand' or 'cow'.
One major exception to this tendency is that current religious doctrine requires established logogram characters describing God to be used in place of syllabic characters. The word for god is 'Od', and has its own unique character (as do each of the Faces, the capital F 'Face', and Its deified pronoun). The syllable 'od' [oʊd] is very common in the Wardi language, and a wholly separate character is used for the phonetic sound when it is not a reference to the deity (ie 'lion' (odo [oʊdoʊ]) does not contain the same character for God in spite of its first syllable having the exact same pronunciation). Names are a bit of a gray area (ie: the name 'Odabi' is very common and carries the meaning of 'gift/blessing from God'). Religious leadership is currently experiencing a mild schism on whether the written character for God is separated due to being wholly sacrosanct (and thus inappropriate to include in the written form of a personal name) or as more of a functional delineation of the sacred and mundane.

Lemme just say that I am loving how expressive Kris is in chapter 4. Putting a sticker on Susie's face, the two of them pouring juice in each other's mouths, trying not to laugh(!!) at Susie failing at skipping a rock, drawing on the diner window, blushing at Susie clocking that they just keep a kitchen knife on them, the whole piano sequence in the dark world and just. AUGH Idk if they're somehow gaining more control over their body as the story progresses or they're just getting more comfortable with expressing themself, but I'm just really happy to see this much of their personality beyond anecdotes from other characters and crumbs from past chapters

Hannigram- Their role in the series
Before watching Hannibal, I had already seen videos about Hannigram on social media.
I thought it would be like all the other series, where those moments are the most famous but occupy a small part. My surprise came while watching the series and realized that wasn't the case, and Hannigram was present throughout.
A very pleasant surprise.
Tumblr media
I've seen very few series that have so well intertwined romance with action. Normally, in action plots the romance is left as a subplot that barely matters or is used to give the protagonist character development (with the death of the beloved, for example); and in romance plots the action is left as a subplot.
I only saw the perfect and balanced combination of romance in danmei and sports anime /joking... or maybe not haha.
In Hannibal, I couldn't quite explain where the action ends and the "romance" begins. There's too much chemistry between the two.
Let's be clear that the Hannibal series isn't about love as such; Will and Hannibal's relationship is designed to be indescribable, to go beyond that.
"A man capable of empathizing with murderers attracts the attention of a murderer." It's an action-police series like many others. But, by turning that "obsession" into more than just an "obsession" and giving us such a complex relationship with such well-developed characters, the "romance" plot stops being secondary and becomes part of the "action," separated by a line too fine for anyone to detect.
It's no more a subplot, the plot wouldn't be the same without one of the two things.
The whole series is a courtship of one towards the other. And I love it.

Note
I had just finished the first chapter of the Axolotl arc in WAIGLZ and reading the second.
Is he technically being a ghost ever going to come up past this arc to the other chapters in WAIGLZ later on?
Like,
"It was not like y o u were the one who viciously murdered me! I am mean technically your gruncles did not even kill a "living" being in the first place, according to s o m e people,
Bill shook his head, fanning away trillion year old resentment
-"you really think it was my first roadio? P l e a s e . So, try not beat yourself up about it kid, ok?"
Mabel looked up and stared at Bill.
"Wha- Huh??" Mabel said dumbfounded.
It would be crazy coolio to see it mentioned in the main fic.
Until I read your fic I never even thought about Bill being a spirit once, and now I feel rather silly wondering how he lived so long outside of his dimension :,)
Please have a truly wonderful day + happy holidays! ^ ^
Toodaloo!
I'm sure eventually it'll be mentioned again (I mean, for one thing, eventually we're gonna see the massacre) but probably not like that.
Like, Bill technically-being-a-ghost isn't some big secret or a major plot twist, and it doesn't fundamentally rewrite the rules around him and what he does. It's just what we see him do throughout canon.
He's a non-physical entity ("a being of pure energy!") that's apparently self-sustaining without needing sleep or food and impervious to injury and illness ("with no weakness!")
He's usually invisible to normal (living) people. He can possess people. He can move inanimate objects even though he can't physically interact with them. He can haunt dreams.
When he has the opportunity to make himself a body, he doesn't turn into something physical; his physical form is separate from him, and he can freely separate from it any time he wants.
This is mind-body dualism. Generally, mind-body dualism is a framework people use to express the idea that the spirit/soul is a separate entity from the body. The thing that's killed in Stan's mind is the spirit; the statue left behind is the body.
Meaning, before he had that body, he was spirit.
When he separates Dipper's spirit from his body in the exact same way Bill separates from his own body, he says, "Without a vessel to possess, you're basically a ghost!"
Bill usually doesn't have a vessel to possess.
Ergo: Bill's basically a ghost and he said so himself.
I haven't listed anything we didn't learn from Sock Opera and Weirdmageddon.
The ONLY question is "well BEFORE he was an energy being, did he have a physical body?" Whether he was born an energy being or became one later is in the realm of headcanon; and I suppose it's a matter of opinion if an energy being counts as a ghost if it's 100% identical to ghosts in every way except that it didn't previously have a physical body. You could argue that his eagerness to get a physical body the second he could implies he used to have one or was meant to have one, but that's speculation.
In every other way, he meets the criteria for a ghost the same way that tomatoes meet the criteria for berries. But when someone tells you "tomatoes are berries," it doesn't teach you anything new about tomatoes. You already knew tomatoes have berry-like traits, you just assumed they were disqualified because they're too big or too unsweet or too vegetably, and now you know they aren't disqualified.
So like—putting that word on him doesn't change anything about Bill. You've learned nothing new. The characters around him would learn nothing new. It's not a plot twist or massive character revelation; it's just a background fact that gets mentioned when it's relevant.
