Early on day 1 of Purgatory, I was so hoping that Phil would remember he was in a team game, and go help his team survive. But he was deep in a hardcore mode fugue state.

When Etoiles 1v4'd Red Team, Phil pulled out rather than staying on him and possibly claiming the victory. And the whole time, I was thinking "omg someone remind Phil that this isn't hardcore; the world doesn't literally end if you die".

...but then Bad and aypierre descended on the camp as Red was scrambling to recover. If Phil wasn't alive and equipped to take them out, Red would've had 3 people freely raiding the gear of most of the team, and quite possibly keeping them in a death loop if not directly spawncamping the whole team.

And now Bad is deadset on lavatrapping Red's spawn and preventing the team from playing. The main thing that will stand in their way? Phil. Doing everything he can not to die.

Paul Anon (that's what I'm dubbing you now get fucked /silly) the beloved OKAY SO! Giving you some deets on their first jumping & how their closest friends (or in Cherry & Paul's case {Marcia's if you're a Marbit fan} how their partners react) Cherry:

- For Cherry (and Marcia) the initial reaction the gang has is absolute anger and fury. The fact that the girls were attacked just for merely being in/around the presence of the gang and or part of the population that holds power is so infuriating. They're girls, so they're not roughed up as bad as greasers usually are on account of general 60's shit, but it's still not great. - Cherry's is arguably worse between her and Marcia's on account of a psychological impact; she's got rope burns around her wrists due to them being tied to stunt her power and her hair was cut practically up to her ears- both to prevent any magic usage and just for raw humiliation. She's also bruised and beaten a good bit; god knows fights are horrendous. I wouldn't be surprised if they ripped her earrings out, as Bev's the one who leads their jumpings. - Ace loses her absolute fucking SHIT. The only thing restraining her from going nuclear and burning down soc territory in her rage is both the risk of prison and to an extent doing something that drastic would get innocent people hurt. That would make her no better than the socs. It sure as hell doesn't stop her from going wild on the ones she can find, probably gets herself a few nights in the slammer for it. - Recovery is rough all over. They get her a neater haircut but she's shaken for obvious reasons, it probably takes a while before she has the guts to walk around her side of the tracks again.

Marcia:

- Marcia's lack of power means that she's less of a target, but if she gets the sight of her, it's a rougher fight. She can't defend herself all too well, but her jumping is more on the physical aspect as they beat her pretty bad too. Lots of bruises and cuts and her earrings are ripped out too. She probably has a better chance of fighting back because she wasn't automatically restrained, but 1v4 (or more) doesn't go well. - The most impactful thing for her that happens during it is that they destroy the feather she was gifted by Two-Bit. That's quite literally one of the most cherished things she owns, as she values how Two's been willing to interact with her after she'd watched his jumping without trying to stop it. Bev burns it beyond salvaging and Marcia's absolutely destroyed. She could handle the beating, can overcome being sore and pained for days, but having the thing that resembled the trust she'd fought so hard to earn back was devastating. - Two was probably THE most pissed off of the entire gang for Marcia's jumping, not only at how she was hurt but the feather being destroyed is such a blow to him as a Harpy. If he weren't afraid of Bev under the risk of having his wings fucked with again, he'd hunt her down and give her a taste of her own medicine. Cherry and Ace are also super pissed, 'cause the girls gotta stick together, but they don't really match the fury that is a pissy harpy; especially since harpies gang together— Two could've easily had every other greaser harpy on his side if he prompted it. - Recover is obviously just as rough, I wouldn't be surprised if Marcia starts rooming with someone on the east side out of fear of returning to the west side; especially since it's fully known now by other socs that she's powerless despite her association.

Paul:

- Paul is, to put it simply, almost beaten into an early grave. Not only did he previously have the most notoriety of the socs— which made him hanging with greasers a complete slap to the face— but he is also cursed. Another really prominent reason behind his humping is pretty simple; he’s gay. Society will look at Cherry and Marcia and the socs will go easier on them because they’re girls, but Paul? Paul’s a man, a guy who turned his back on the high society in favor of these pests. - His jumping Is rough all over. They're taunting him throughout, snarking about his sexuality, poking fun at how he can't even fend them off with his magic because not only is he weak, but he's a cursed who can't even do that right. They fuck him up bad; busted ribs, broken nose, and his arms are likely dislocated from them pulling him around hard to tie his hands together so he couldn't use his magic. He's got cuts and bruises galore. I'd go as far enough to say they probably broke an arm or something. I like to imagine they ripped his letterman jacket away from him because he didn't deserve something their kind wore when he was with those freaks now. Honestly, the only reason they stopped was because they couldn't see he was still breathing from the angle they were at, though they killed him, and booked it 💀. If they hadn't, though, they probably would've gone until he did stop. - The only reason he's found is because his familiar trails back to the house and grabs the attention of whoever’s there to get them to come with her, since Paul’s completely knocked out. It’s most likely Soda who finds him since he is arguably the one she likes most of the gang and she’ll gravitate towards him. He’ll follow easily too, since he likes her. It’s very similar to finding Johnny, practically that all over again - Darry is obviously the most pissed, probably the same level of anger he felt after his brother's jumpings and Two’s own. The same people who used to be on Paul’s side of things turning a switch so fast over what? A bit of magic and the fact that he likes dudes? Anger doesn’t even describe it in a way— the fae are territorial, and as far as he’s aware, Paul’s a part of that. He's out for blood; but Paul won't spill names so he's got no specific target. That sure as hell won't stop him from finding out, though. He's just got to behave enough to keep his brothers in his care. - The rest of the gang is a whole mixed bag. Dally doesn’t like Paul but his general response is “It’s deserved but only if I were the one doing it”, so take that as you will. Pony’s petty like Dally but since Darry cares he helps out with patching him up. The rest come to the conclusion that pretty boy here probably needs some watching eyes so he’s stuck with them for a bit. He does NOT know how to respond to it. Pretty much the idea for them is that only they're allowed to fuck with Paul, not the socs. - Paul probably has the easiest (mental) recovery for a few good reasons. It's certainly not his first fight/jumping, and it's not his first time being hurt that badly. There's a reason he's gravitated toward his mom despite her efforts to shove him away.

Top 10 Kakucho moments!

10. The time he instantly wasted Chifuyu and the twins during the final fight. He didn't even particularly have a reason to do this, he just yeeted them all, showing how strong he is here.

9. Being the only character to ask about South, it's unclear exactly how good/ bad their relationship was but it's clear Kakucho was at least worried and wanted to know if he was ok. More then we see anyone else in his gang doing.

8. Bringing up Kisaki and being smart enough to realise he's up to something.

7. Trying to stop Izana when things went too far. Kakucho really did just want the best for Izana and was willing to go against him for that, he just wanted Izana to be ok. Unfortunately we all know how this ends for him.

6. Wanting to fight Takemichi, Angry, Chifuyu and Smiley in a 1v4. This was actually really cool of Kakucho, he had a whole group of guys he could've used against them to easily crush them but instead decides to fight them himself.

5. Being the one to take down the crying blue ogre and then taking down Inui and Chifuyu. Once again an impressive show of Kakucho's strength.

4. Helping underprivileged children in the future, he's just such a good guy and I bet he does a great job.

3. Actually listening to Takemichi and then teaming up with him against Sanzu. Kakucho was so important here that he even saved Takemichi's life early on in the fight and then put up a good fight against Sanzu.

2. Stopping Mucho from using the blade against Angry and Takemichi. Kakucho didn't even hesitate to get involved here despite the risk to himself. I mean holding a blade like that and not getting yourself hurt is pretty impressive. And he stops Mucho from becoming a murderer and the others from getting murdered.

1. Saving everyone from the train, we can literally thank Kakucho for saving most of the cast here. He even sacrificed himself to do this, dying alone to save everyone. He's truly a selfless guy, who clearly cares about his other gang members.

So, sooooo proud of Bad for lasting so long in a 1v4 fight, that's such an accomplishment that they literally needed four people to beat him!! I want to learn about the other's reactions when they hear about Bad's fight because it was so wild!!

I didn't bother doing a post on the previous episode of Fixing RWBY, but I can sum it up in two points:

Celtic Phoenix at one point makes a (pretty witty) joke about Pyrrha's bedroom being "spartan" in style. This is then ruined by him saying that he can't make many jokes because he's "streamlining" the volume. This is said during an episode of events that are entirely of his own creation and do absolutely nothing to further the plot whatsoever, continuing this trend of grinding the plot to a complete halt in Argus.

The episode focuses on JNR and Roman/Neo, and highlights the fact that Celtic Phoenix doesn't write groups of friends as squabbling assholes who can't get along for five seconds when those groups don't consist of multiple women. (Reminder: Celtic Phoenix added wholly-unnecessary and stupid drama between Nora and Pyrrha in his rewrite of the Beacon arc, creating hostility specifically and solely between the two women of Team JNPR.)

Now that we've gone through that, Episode 17 is about Team RWBY trying to get their friendship back on track! Because remember, streamlining! (Also this entire arc of Team RWBY being Women Can't Get Along is entirely of this misogynistic asshole's creation.)

Anyway, Ruby starts off by talking about how much fun she had with Team RNJR, continuing the trend of Ruby treating RNJR as more of her Real Team than RWBY. Ruby decides they'll all go to the beach!

Except it's freezing out, as the others point out.

Celtic Phoenix really has This Thing for writing the main protagonist of a series focused on female characters as a complete fucking idiot, and I have a solid idea why.

Anyway, afterwards they go to a cafe to warm Ruby up. Weiss whines about Yang drinking her tea hot, because again, Celtic Phoenix being a stupid fucking misogynist. Weiss offers to pay, but then passes the bill to Ruby, and somehow a bunch of drinks at a cafe are super expensive. This makes total sense.

Ruby then says that they can't go shopping afterwards then, so they go to a nightclub. In the middle of the day, when it's empty. Ruby messes up her dance and hurts herself, which makes all of her friends laugh at her(!!!). Yang calls Ruby "Rubes", which makes it even less subtle that Celtic Phoenix ripped off plot details from Volume 9 for his shitty rewrite.

They have a good time, and mock Weiss for not being able to dance(!!!). Somehow Ruby thought their day went poorly, probably because her friends haven't stopped being Women Can't Get Along. But then there's an alert from Cordovin!

They race over to find a bunch of Grimm having broken through the wall, plus a bunch of sliced-up soldiers and Huntsmen. Guess who, it's Adam! So Team RWBY run away from him on their vehicles.

Yes. Because literally the only fucking way Celtic Phoenix can make Adam intimidating is to treat the main heroines of the show as being utterly helpless against him.

And Adam chases after them. On foot, jumping from car to car. Their plan is to lure him to the military base. There's a fight scene, Adam gets unmasked and Weiss is made to care about this psycho piece of shit Celtic Phoenix wants you to care, he then kicks everyone's ass, and then he gets unceremoniously taken out by Cordovin with a cattle prod.

Really.

So, let us repeat: This guy who is so badass that Team RWBY flees in terror at the sight of him and is so badass that he can 1v4 them has been effortlessly taken out by

But our protagonists aren't allowed to stand a chance against him.

Probably because they aren't a.) military, written by an alt-right POS or b.) men, written by a misogynistic POS.

And all of this is so desperate to make Adam this unstoppable hyper-badass who's so psychopathic and yet somehow you should feel empathy for him because his mom was abused. Celtic Phoenix so desperately wants Adam to be a badass that he proceeds to write him as an entirely uninteresting and pathetic antagonist. He just shows up to be an asshole, that's literally it. If Celtic Phoenix thinks Adam is somehow sympathetic by letting a swarm of monsters into an inhabited city, then Celtic Phoenix himself might very well be a psychopath too.

Volume 6 knew well enough to leave Adam until the end, because it understood tension and drama. It understood that Adam was a terrifying antagonist not because he was more powerful than Team RWBY combined, but because of the kind of hateful, abusive, obsessed psychopath he was. It allowed him to appear at the most dramatic moment possible, ambushing Blake when she was solo and vulnerable. He was pathetic as a person, yet terrifying in his desperation to harm and abuse Blake and Yang, and being strong in the ways Adam was weak was how Blake and Yang overcame him.

Here? Adam is a boring psycho who just shows up whenever Celtic Phoenix wants him to, everyone acts like he's the most badass person in existence, the titular heroines are reduced to helplessness in order to make him look threatening, and then he gets his ass kicked in the most anticlimactic, unfulfilling manner possible.

Because Celtic Phoenix is an incredibly shitty writer.

Stepping out of my Leon S. Kennedy Brainrot briefly to nerd the fuck out on Vash the Stampede for a second (I'm also going to be putting this under the cut again because this WILL get Super Long);

Something I'm really, really, really fascinated by is just how fucking insane his reflexes are.

Like, watch the first ten seconds of this clip really quick.

Now, I should clarify that Vash, canonically, is not a human being. He's basically an alien that looks like a human but does not have the same physical limitations as the average homo sapiens.

But regardless of that? The shit he pulls off in that video, not just the whole bullet-dodging thing, is FUCKING INSANE.

Let me put this into perspective for you using the one thing that I know can remotely compare to this kind of reaction speed; a Spartan-II, aka somebody like John-117.

Spartans, as we know, are augmented. Insanely augmented. "I can shatter a man's nose by flicking it" and "I literally pulverized a man's cock and balls and shattered his entire pelvis at age 14 by kicking him in the nuts in a 1v4 against several trained soldiers" levels of augmented.

To grab a quote from Halopedia on Spartan reflexes in particular, from the Project: ASTER page specifically;

Their reaction time, while impossible to chart accurately, was estimated to be twenty milliseconds. The Spartans' reaction times were noted to be significantly faster in combat situations or with assistance from an AI. The reaction times of the SPARTAN-IIs were so fast that they, in heightened states of stress, were able to think, react and see things as if everything around them were simultaneously occurring at both a slow and rapid pace - a phenomenon dubbed "SPARTAN Time" by Kelly-087. The motion of a Spartan in combat is nearly impossible for an outsider to follow, their movement appearing as a blur. These reflexes allowed Spartans to successfully dodge gunfire on certain occasions.

Note the words, "successfully dodge gunfire on certain occasions."

Before I continue I want to also point out that, for reference's sake, a lightning strike hits the ground at around fifty milliseconds, or 270,000 miles per hour. The flash of light associated with the lightning strike? 670 MILLION miles per hour.

Now, I asked r/HaloStory on reddit for some more precise math/examples of Spartan reflexes, because I am Not Smart when it comes to math, and there's no way I'm going to give myself a headache trying to calculate the reaction time of a brick shithouse.

First, let's give some visual (and text) examples of Spartan reflexes and strength in action. Here's a clip of Cal-141 going toe-to-toe against a pissed off Jiralhanae. Here's a gif from the Forward Unto Dawn of a marine getting hit by a needler projectile, and John stepping in to tank the next hit. Now, for some math, courtesy of a redditor; let's assume that "point-blank" range is anywhere within the range of 6 feet, at maximum, between the target and the shooter. The average 9mm bullet travels 1300 meters in a single second; it can travel 6 feet in 6/1300ths of a second, or about 4.615 milliseconds.

A Spartan-II isn't fast enough to dodge a bullet shot at them from six feet away.

I need to repeat this because it's still fucking mindblowing even for me.

He's literally moving so fast that it looks as though he's straight up teleporting; there's no blur of his body in motion like what you'd see in a Spartan II. You literally can't see his body moving out of the way of the bullet. The only times you see his body and clothes moving is when he's already dodged the fucking bullet.

Combined with his insane accuracy that at minimum is on the level of Linda-058, who shot a pilot out of a moving Banshee while upside down, and I genuinely think that Vash the Stampede could solo a Spartan-II, assuming he had a means of not getting into melee range of said Spartan (because while he has almost literal god-like reflexes, he is NOT that fast when he's actually running.)

HOT D continues to impress and depress me

First off, applauding at how they completely reject the “Kill Your Gays” trope and have Laenor straight up (gay up?) fake his death and run away. Although personally I always pictured Daemon being the one behind it somehow. Then again, the show also changed Rhea’s death to be Daemon killing her, so the whole unjust spousal murder still occurs, just differently.

While some show changed have been really bad, some changes have been really good. This episode was no exception.

The Good:

Aemond claiming Vhagar was a beautiful scene and the music made it feel even more epic. I liked that whole little montage.

Most of the characters continue to be more nuanced and interesting than their book selves. Then again, personally I find that to be a pretty low bar. I love Martin’s work, the Dance not so much.

While I dislike Alicent trying to stab Rhaenyra (see “the bad”) the dialogue there is incredible. Alicent feeling that Rhaenyra is entitled and being angry at the injustice of everything feels real.

Did we really need that whole closeup of Rhaenyra and Daemon fucking? I was already grossed out when they did it while she was underage and he was grooming her.

Rhaenyra being fine with Laenor being gay is an odd choice, given how in the books she appears to be outright homophobic, saying that Laenor would prefer her brothers (who were under 10 years old)...

I continue to be critical of the clear bias toward the Greens. I find multifaceted characters more interesting. While I do think they did a good job with Alicent’s backstory and I don’t think her growing up to be the way she is now is too illogical, I’d prefer if she showed more skill in diplomacy, which after all is supposed to be something she’s better at than Rhaenyra and work in the Greens’ favor. Aemond being cruel is accurate to his book character, but I felt it was excessive even for his standards when he tried to kill Jacaerys with a rock and threatened to feed Laena’s children to Vhagar. While not outright villainous by medieval standards, Otto and Alicent slapping Aegon II feels really bad. We never see Rhaenyra do the same to her sons, even when Lucerys straight out stabs Aemond’s eye out. Aegon II has yet to get any real redeeming traits, other than possibly that he didn’t ask for any of this. I hope they expand on that. At the same time it makes the conflict feel weaker when he doesn’t actually want to rule and is just a puppet. Despite this however, I still feel more for Aegon II in the show than I did while reading the books. All of this however is a matter of opinion and taste, so it sticks closer to “????” than outright bad.

The Bad:

You’re telling me that Aemond just 1v4 Jacaerys, Lucerys, Rhaena and Baela? This is bullshit. The fact that he was able to fight back at all and was almost able to kill Lucerys was ridiculous. It’s 4 against 1, they’re all the same age and should be of approximately the same strength.

Alicent walking up to go stabby stab on Rhaenyra is completely out of character, even for Book Alicent who was completely unsympathetic. This feels more like post-Dance Alicent, who was traumatized and mentally ill, screaming at 10 year old Jaehaera to stab her husband. Not even Cersei did this when Joffrey was maimed!

Also, Viserys just stands there while Rhaenyra is bleeding out? Wtf?

Aemond saying his line AFTER all this has happened?

Otto is totally fine with Alicent ruining her reputation and stabbing the crown princess? Despite the fact that her looking like a lunatic gives them a bad reputation and lowers the chance of Aegon II getting approval from the smallfolk and the other nobles? If you wanted Otto to be impressed by a show of ruthlessness, Alicent requesting a literal eye for an eye would be enough.

It honestly felt like it. There was no reason for a literal 1v4. Like it would have made sense if it was team verses team and the others got downed. But it really was just her for the sake of showing them up.

I'm not going to sugar coat it. The Queues last night were bad. We had a few competent fill ins but there was a lot of just very unaware tanks. I still had a lot of fun though! My friend who has been filling the dps role has been getting really good with soldier. You can see it on the score sheet just getting higher and higher which in impressive because at times it seems like a hard carry. The person I've been cosupporting has also been getting really good with kiriko it would seem to me. There was several times that her protection suzu has literally saved games. I've also noticed that she is getting better at poke damage with her kunai. Not that I'm like a pro player in the slightest but knowing that this is like her first competative fps I've been incredibly impressed by how fast she is picking up on it. For myself? Well it has been kinda difficult for me to pick out where I might have been improving. Since I was mostly Moira my ults have been ok. My healing has been fine, it could stand to be improved because Moira has the ability to just make huge healing plays. I also feel like I could be poking more damage. I don't like making excuses for myself because it isn't how you improve but I will say that a bunch of the games I played the tank did not allow me to get close enough to makes plays on their support and dps. They would let the enemy tank push up and create lots of space for their backline. I realize now the importance of flanking in that regard. I thought about diving with Moira a couple of times but let's not kid ourselves, her damage is just not that great. I did switch to Lucio at one point and booped 3 people off the map of which I said that was going to be play of the game and I was absolutely right. I love playing lucio but he is hard to play when your pick ups are kinda oblivious.

Overall I had a blast besides the nap and carnitas I ate being the one two punch of feeling super groggy and sluggish.
