this part in chapter 10 of the epilogue is SO GOOD to me and i love it so much. not only are we TREATED to Macaque giving more instructions about magic and the like, he is now giving MK life advice from his own experience.

and I LOVE that last paragraph, about being aware of how cruel the mind can be. that awareness can turn the tide. it can change your mindset and vastly improve your outlook. And it's so, so true!!

being self-deprecating makes others uncomfortable and only harms your well-being and idea of yourself further, turning into a spiral that's difficult to escape from. but even just catching yourself and going "i shouldn't think that. that's not true." works WONDERS. just going "No, I actually am smart and brave and I can do this! I'm just stressed, and that's okay." can make you feel better.

it's reassurance. we all need reassurance, but we've got to reassure ourselves. And that's what Macaque is saying here. He knows Wukong is MK's number 1 fan. Wukong will hype MK up and tell him how great he is for days and days. But MK has to work on that idea of himself on his own. he has to believe. He has to believe in his own abilities.

And that's why Macaque acknowledges MK's tendency to overthink, expresses empathy because he also overthinks, and then gives advice on how to deal with that. It's so, so wholesome and just a great interaction between MK and Macaque.

I love how this mature topic is something that Wukong was aware of in Constellations, but admitted to not knowing how to fix it. Here, Macaque sets MK on that path to fixing it or at least making it better. And Wukong knows this, and he smiles in gratitude because Macaque did something Wukong couldn't.

It's just really wholesome and shows their dynamics really well. And it's just a realistic take on mentoring someone. Wukong isn't going to be great at everything. MK can't go to him for everything. And the same is true for Macaque, but if they mentor MK together, they can, about 70% of the time, give him some advice that's helpful and enlightening.

They just need to play to their strengths and trust each other. 😌

they’re calling it block party 2024. just blocking and ignoring countless celebrities who havent said shit about palestine. influencers, actors, anyone who went to the met gala, whatever, they’re getting blocked. and people keep talking about how cathartic it is, how good it feels, how they never realized they could DO that. there was some kind of subconscious law against blocking famous people, but it’s broken, and people are LOVING it. and it’s WORKING. a social media/digital advertising coordinator was talking about how ad companies are PANICKING, because they can’t accurately target anymore. so many big influencers, including fucking LIZZO started talking about palestine the MOMENT their follower counts started going down. and the best part? no one is forgiving them. lizzo posted a tiktok asking people to donate to palestinian families, and all the comments just said you’re a multimillionaire. put your money where your mouth is. blocked.

i feel like i’m witnessing the downfall of celebrity culture, right here right now. people are waking up.

You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.

Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
