Actually been thinking about this since I got this ask last night. I don't KNOW 😭😭😭😭😭

But it's an interesting thought experiment, I'm going to run with it.

Hypothetically, I think Kagami most likely died on a mission at 25, there's absolutely no other way anything else other than chakra disease (which is ridiculously stupid so I'm gonna pretend it doesn't exist) killed him. So my way of saving him would be to make him the Hokage instead of Hiruzen. Remember, Kagami was the *only* Uchiha that Tobirama really trusted, since he inherited the Will of Fire instead of the Curse of Hatred. I think that he would have feasibly been the one to offer himself up as the sacrifice, and therefore become the Third Hokage.

Of course, he would eventually die (probably fighting Orochimaru in all honesty), but if there was an UCHIHA at the seat of the Hokage, well there would be literally no issues for the clan. They wouldn't be so insistent on Fugaku being the Fourth Hokage, and when he's not selected there's no immense bad blood. They would be so much happier with everything in this timeline and the coup wouldn't even be a concept. Shisui would be born and not even have to deal with that shit, lmfao. And he'd be the grandson of the Hokage. HAHA imagine if he was like Konohamaru as a kid because of the entitlement—

If you saved Shisui instead, Danzo would still have is eye and yeah sure, you expose the corruption in Konoha, but the coup is still looming. I personally didn't think the Kotoamatsukami plan was any good, it would have just delayed things more or led to the ousting of Fugaku as clan head. He would be alive but, well, I can't say what I think it would lead to because that will spoil the entirety of my longfic currently going 🤧

Actually this is so fucking easy. I would save Kagami, especially if he became Hokage. It solves so many issues LOL. Then maybe Shisui would get to meet his grandpa 🥹 But if we're considering a world where Hiruzen is Hokage, well I don't know and you're cruel for making me think about that. Why I like them: When written well, he's a good character! I think his years of history on the show - and the fact that the writers do a fairly good job of actually remembering that history compared to other characters - have given him a lot of... weight and grounding, I suppose. And the quality of George Rainsford's acting can be variable, but when he's good, he's REALLY good and adds a lot to Ethan's character.

Why I don't: He went through what was an absolutely awful patch of writing while he was Clinical Lead, and tbh I don't think the writing for him truly recovered for a long time after that (that storyline where he was into the girl who was barely university age... yikes).

Favourite episode: I don't remember what it was called, but the second episode of series 36? The one that ends with him giving Bodhi away to Fenisha's parents? That was a brilliant episode. George Rainsford was incredible in that one.

Favourite season: Series 35 (and the latter half of S34 tbh) did a lot of work to redeem him after the bad writing he'd been suffering from for years, and I haven't seen much of his earlier episodes, so S35 has to be my pick.

Favourite line: Can't think of one. Although, his line in S36E02 when he's having visions of Cal in the superhero costume, and hallucination!Cal asks why Ethan pictures him in that outfit rather than anything else and Ethan answers "because we were loved then and I was happy"... that does make me tear up.

Favourite outfit: His Fourth Doctor cosplay from the Comic Con episode, obvs.

OTP: Him and Fenisha, tbh. Maybe I just haven't seen enough of him with his other love interests, but I always felt Fenisha was the only person I could truly see him with. I'm so angry they killed her off to make him miserable.

I also like the Ethan/Rash ship, I can definitely see why it's so popular.

BroTP: Him and Cal, obviously! (A very literal Bro-TP, haha.) Also him and Arthur from Holby, I thought it was really sweet and made sense how they were implied to be friends, I wish we could've seen that properly. Headcanon: As shown by the above note about liking the Ethan/Rash ship, I am a fan of bi!Ethan. I know I'm not the first person to say it, but I don't care, it's a good headcanon.

Also, just a little thought, not much of a headcanon, but just something I like to imagine - when he went up on the Holby wards and met Gaskell back in 2018, he definitely paused for thought and went "...hey, is it just me or does this guy look like the Eighth Doctor?". He then proceeded to decide they didn't look that similar, and he was imagining it. 😂

Unpopular opinion: I don't think I have any unpopular Ethan opinions, lol.

A wish: I wish they hadn't killed off Fenisha and Ethan could've been happy with her.

Plausibly - I'd say I want him to have a happy ending, but I don't know how happy of an ending he can have when he has an inherited degenerative disease and the symptoms are already starting. That's going to hang over any exit he gets. So I guess I just want him to find plenty of love - romantic or platonic - in his life before he eventually leaves the show.

An oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen: I hope they never have him try to go out with another barely-university-aged girl ever again.

A theory of sorts

Hey, everybody! I think I'm finally starting to get a bit of a handle on school (*knocks on wood*), so in the past few days I've gotten myself all caught up on Spider-Man, and– of all places, I didn't expect THAT to give me theorist ideas, but well, here we are.

I've tried to write out my thoughts about this in a coherent post, but for some reason they're just not coming out right, so to introduce my idea, I present to you: my original revelation I had last night on Discord (while I was half-asleep and suffering from a headache, so it's not exactly the highest quality, but the idea is there):

But like– does that make any sense, what I was saying? What if the reason we see all these different versions of the same characters is because they're just from different universes entirely? What if everything that's come after SAY GOODBYE ending in a "death" is just another rendition/AU of a similar story that shifts with current context, told in a way that treats previous "canon" deaths as if they didn't really happen, therefore allowing more complex stories and crossovers to possibly build off of the first? Because like, again, consider Spider-Man– there's an AU where Peter and MJ have a child, an AU where Peter dies and is replaced by Miles Morales, multiple AUs where Peter just ends up dying in horrible horrible ways– sure, those things can be "canon" in their own respective universes, but none of them HAVE to carry across every single timeline the character occurs on.

Now consider this from an ego perspective. In the SAY GOODBYE plotline, yeah, Jack could have actually died and subsequently been "gone forever". But in KJSE and the lore around that, it's revealed that Schneeple saved Jack after the events of SG. What if that's really more like "AU where Schneeplestein stitched Jack back together"?

At first, this whole thing seemed kind of farfetched to me… until I realized it can literally explain every instance of any ego's possibly moral ambiguity.

Chase, depressed loving father or emotionless mass murderer? We've SEEN evidence of both (TIE and Bro Average). Henrik, good doctor trying his best or mad doctor under possession? We've SEEN evidence of both (KILL JSE and Bio Inc. #4). Marvin, mere show magician or actual Dr. Strange-esque powers? We've SEEN evidence of both (Marv's power hour and Try To Fall Asleep). JJ, good silent boy or just a puppet for the playing with? We've SEEN evidence of both (Silent Movie and that bit toward the end showing Anti's corruption). Anti, possessing demon or suppressed spirit or virus in every sense of the word? We've SEEN evidence of all three (SG, Detention, and KJSE).

Who's to say what's really "canon" if we're switching between multiple versions of the characters themselves as we go along?

It doesn't stop there. Because what I've said so far doesn't cover some of the most important details about Anti himself– the fact that he breaks the fourth wall and calls us out, wanting an end to the repetition of the cycle he's been stuck in. He's self-aware like that. He's aware that other things have happened in other timelines, and he's forced to go along with whatever each reset brings about. He wants out of all this– exactly like Flowey and Monika did in their respective games– and he's going to stop at nothing to get there, even if it means "cutting his strings" and changing what's "canon" in past stories.

Which brings us to Mayhem.

If you can believe it, this concept might even cover a lot of Mayhem that was left ambiguous for us– like the existence of Dr. JSE, how it was Chase in Dark Silence instead of Jack, why everything just seems to be going supremely wrong in every little bit we saw of it.

Because if Anti's not tied down to one timeline and/or is aware of all the others, I'm willing to bet he'd be pretty determined to royally f*ck things up in the name of breaking himself out of the "cycle".

I'm aware that this idea might not make much sense (as it's surprisingly hard for me to form words right now for some reason :P), but… I just feel like there might be something to this, the whole idea of multiple timelines that intertwine characters and events that weren't connected at all before.

So, yeah. This isn't one of my most clean-cut theories, but… I couldn't just let this keep sitting in my head, even if it came out jumbled. Feel free to add on to this if anyone out there has more ideas!
