ACADEMY LOG, DATE: XX/XX/20XX. SUBJECT: FAEFOLK

There are many, many, MANY species that aren’t solely human or solely animal in Gaea;

Animal hybrids, humanoids of mythical origins, androids & robots if you count them (I sure would), golems, merfolk, and the list quite literally goes on.

But amidst all of those unique species, a group of them are respected amongst all else;

The Faefolk

Modernly seen through their descendants; being elves, fairies, & dwarves, Faefolk are almost human-like in appearance; with that emphasis on almost being through certain physical traits.

All three of those species have pointed ears, but alongside that, Fairies are gifted wings that are akin to bugs, & dwarves are commonly shorter in comparison to both elves & fairies.

These beings are known for having a deep affinity towards magic, and especially nature, with this common knowledge about them being why they are so commonly respected by humans, and various other races.

However, this has also led to certain faefolk becoming immensely arrogant & overly confident, which in turn leads to them being distrustful of other non-faefolk, viewing themselves as superior over others, and them having a disdain for modern technology.

On a more optimistic side, this doesn’t apply to all faefolk, with most fairies, elves, & dwarves gladly co-existing with other species and futuristic technology in the ever-changing world of Gaea.

Aaron Praan

A Fairy with Indian & Welsh ethnicities, and a deep connection to the Light element, with bright yellow wings with white accents that bear resemblance to a dragonfly; an insect known for symbolizing change, transformation, and swiftness. In comparison to their bloodline, Aaron’s affinity lies primarily in weapons & technology, whilst also having a desire to still implement magic into his creations. He additionally spent a large part of his life without his wings, having them be forcefully torn off from their back after having been ambushed by an Entity when they were young, until ultimately regaining them during his first year at Arcana Academy.

Iris Mesloh

An Elf with German heritage, and an immense connection and care towards anything & everything relating to Nature, especially seen in the elements she chose to study alongside her girlfriend, Macy Shalaal. At first glance, she may look & come off as the type of faefolk that’s heavily arrogant & disdains modern technology, but she’s mostly the complete opposite. Iris is very laid-back, believing everything, orderly & chaotic, has a role to play in the grand scheme of things, and has a primary desire to live her life. Also she lives off of tea, modern indie & lo-fi music, and photography.

Orion Ágnostos

A Half-Elf with Greek roots and no specific connection to a certain element or form of nature. Orion isn’t really connected to nature in comparison to other elves, especially considering half of their heritage NOT being of fae origin, and the given fact that they have no genuine clue of who or where their parents are. Nonetheless, they’re still heavily passionate about magic, especially from the Light & Metal elements, and has a deep love for helping others however and wherever they can.

Madeleine ‘Ono

An Elf with Hawaiian roots that has a rare connection towards Metal, an element that’s commonly disliked by most elves. Madeleine’s bloodline has quickly & easily adapted towards modern day; and dedicates their lives towards servitude to others through any & all forms of creation. Madeleine themselves is primarily interested & passionate about gastronomy & the culinary arts, especially seen through Madeleine studying elements that are somewhat related through cooking (Metal, Fire, & Creation), and the fact that their primary weapons are a very durable frying pan & cleaver. Of course, Madeleine herself, is undoubtedly kind.

Mateo Ithemba

A fairy, with Ethiopian roots and an strong connection to the Dark element. Their wings bare striking resemblance to the monarch butterfly; the symbol of rebirth, transformation, and most especially in Mateo’s case, hope. As cliche & typical as it is, you’d assume someone born connected to the element like Dark would have a more… pessimistic personality, but Mateo is the exact opposite. Despite his birth element, and his punk fashion sense for that matter, Mateo an immensely optimistic and upbeat person; especially when it comes to magic, his friends, and Brooks.

Fiction: The Saddle

"These are our absolute finest stallions," the trainer said nervously.

"I'm sure they are," Ghavril said dismissively. "I imagine that, as horses go, they're fine." As in, 'barely satisfactory' as opposed to 'of the highest quality'.

The trainer waved his arms at the grooms, who led them hurriedly away through the red door. "But perhaps you are looking for something more exotic, then?" He raised his whip and cracked it in a certain pattern, and an interminable minute later, the huge blue door beside the red one opened.

Ghavril glanced up and raised an eyebrow as an elephant was led into the room. He met its eye, small against its enormous head, but didn't see any of the fire he hoped for. The trainer waved it away, and shortly thereafter a large bull elephant was led in by a pair of muscular handlers, trumpeting its defiance as it wrenched its head back and forth. Finally, something with some spirit, Ghavril thought.

"Enzo was captured only a few days ago," the trainer said, raising his voice against the trumpeting and stamping. "Merely getting the ropes attached was a major undertaking." One of the handlers cried out as he was gored, and the trainer, to his credit, barely flinched as blood splattered onto his shoulder.

"It might be mildly diverting for a day or two," Ghavril allowed.

The trainer waved his hand again and half a dozen more handlers emerged and wrestled the bloody-tusked beast back behind the blue door, closing it and barring it firmly against the firm kicks which followed, subsiding as Enzo was presumably led away to his reinforced pen.

A few more whip-cracks and a yellow door opened. A maiden clad in white led in a magnificent unicorn, its spiraling ivory horn glinting in the spotlights. While it moved docilely enough, when Ghavril caught its eye he could sense the hatred for anything so impure, so masculine, so anathema to its nature, and promised a mighty struggle. "Yes, I well remember the unicorn I got from Ithemba's last year," Ghavril reminisced aloud. "I thought of riding it here, but while it has been well broken to my touch, it's too dangerous for anyone else. It doesn't even tolerate virgin maidens any more."

Ghavril sat impassive as the trainer paraded hippogriffs, kelpies and tigers before it. He briefly raised an eyebrow at the saddled hippopotamus, but he really didn't want to get his boots wet.

"What's behind the green door?" he asked as the trainer briefly paused, clearly at a loss for what to show him next.

"Nothing you'd be interested in," the trainer said quickly. "No, it's something for our more intrepid clients."

Ghavril noted that, unlike the other doors, it had a lock on it. "I'm afraid that you have piqued my curiosity now," he said. "Perhaps it is only something placid like a giant ground sloth or an anaconda, but I'd like to take a glance at it, at least."

The trainer sighed theatrically, the obligatory warning having been issued, and stood up, taking a large green key from his pocket, and walked to the door, gesturing for Ghavril to follow. The key turned only stiffly in the lock, as if it had not been opened in some time.

Inside the door was a cage, also in bars of iron painted green, and inside the cage was a large man, also painted green. He looked up and Ghavril found himself looking into his own face.

"What is this?" he said, a note of interest entering his voice for the first time.

The trainer shrugged. "Would you like to try it out?" He gestured to a saddle and bridle on the wall, oddly shaped but clearly suitable for the outsized human form.

"I demand that you let me out!" the Ghavril inside the cage shouted.

Ghavril took the tack from the wall and lifted the bar on the cage door. The giant inside, eyes following his movements, prepared to leap as the door was opened.

"Attacking something smaller than yourself? How very brave," Ghavril said, and the giant flinched back at the last second. Ghavril insinuated himself quickly and flung the bridle over the giant's head. He almost flinched as he felt the straps settle around his own neck, but reminded himself that mastering himself was the most important part of mastering lesser creatures. The giant flailed its arms but Ghavril retained his hold upon its head, and soon wore it down. Being trapped in a cage had surely been deleterious to its stamina. It lay gasping on hands and knees as Ghavril strapped on the saddle, feeling the odd weight on his own torso.

"Yes, thank you, I'll take it," Ghavril said as he leapt up onto his own back, feeling the unaccustomed weight. The giant lumbered to its feet, and with gentle pressures against its back and sides, Ghavril steered it out of the cage. He absently rubbed at his neck, where he suspected the bridle would soon begin to chafe, but since it wasn't really touching his flesh there wasn't much he could do about it. They would surely get used to it in time.

I enjoyed the story, but the writing was a little weak. The current plot often felt rushed.

The quick breakdown of what I have about the Landmasses so far (map to shared later):

The Nation of Ichou-Iya is the most developed by me - It's the homeland of the humans. There's 5 main regions (that i need to make new names so it's just the basic terms now): The tundra, the Mountain, the beach, the grasslands, and the marsh. The nation is the northmost nation, and has 7 major cities.

Laydahm is the most eastern landmass. It is mostly swamp and marshlands and jungles. most of the residents are bugs or the Vosians, which are a slime-like creature. There's only one major settlement here.

Vari'land is home to the dwarves, which are creatures made of rock that hatch from geodes and make the best foods. It is split into 4 major regions: Suoi (the grasslands), Dthigi (the stone shores), Albmi (the mountains), and Saa (the islands). It has about 16 major settlements and multiple military outposts. There are many caves and tunnels from the dwarves, and the capitol of the world is considered to lie here.

Ikhaya is home to the Deszh, which are also called "beast men". Many of them are cursed. There are 4 main regions: Abafileyo (the barrens), Ithemba (the plains), Intlabathi (the deserts), and Wokhuseleko (the "wing"). There are 3 major settlements, with the largest being home to many dragon deszh.

Gibar'l is the only major settlement known for the underwater civilizations. Not much is known about it or its people. In the native tongue, Gibar'l is spelled "gbbrl"

Dyrswng is a barren wasteland, often considered the entrance to hell. There is no special features, other than a large entrance to the extensive caverns beneath the surface. The cave entrance is called Fw're Dhlt'n. The place is mostly home to spirits and other undead. They say you might find ruins of a grand civilization.

The deserts of time has one known settlement in the oasis, and a military outpost. the settlement is highly religious and has multiple entrances to the caves.
