Quote
Having been working now for over fifty years, I can count the good clients on two or three hands. Why they're good is a magical thing: It has to do with wanting to participate in something they don't really understand. Most people are blind. And to be simultaneously very smart and blind--and to recognize it--takes a rare person.

Mid-Century Modern Graphic Design by @theoinglis www.draw-down.com
The distinctive aesthetic of #midcenturydesign captured the post-war zeitgeist of energy and progress, and remains hugely popular today. In Mid-Century Modern #Graphic Design design writer and graphic designer Theo Inglis takes an in-depth look at the innovative graphics of the period, writing about the work of artists and designers from all over the world. From book covers, record covers, and #posters to advertising, typography, and illustration, the designs feature eye-popping color palettes, experimental type, and prints that buzz with kinetic energy.
The book features artworks from a wide selection of international designers and illustrators whose work continues to inspire and influence today, including Ray Eames, #Paul Rand, Alex Steinweiss, Joseph Low, #Alvin Lustig, #Elaine Lustig Cohen, Leo Lionni, Rudolph de Harak, Abram Games, Tom Eckersley, Ivan Chermayeff, #Josef Albers, #Corita Kent, Jim Flora, Ben Shahn, Herbert Bayer and Helen Borten.

blog post 6
This chapter was helpful to read through as we are starting our Zine project. Before starting my design classes I never really realized how important typography is and how much it impacts images, magazines, posters, and everything really. But now I notice it everywhere and it’s just so cool to look at things from a new perspective and notice the intention and detail behind the placement of e everything. This chapter definitely opens the mind to the different ways you can use type as well as the history of different type styles and the history of the machines that create type.
The Zine project we just started is about using type and breaking the grid and thinking outside the box of the ways you can use and manipulate type. I’m really excited to get started working on this project and challenge myself. The graphic designer I chose for this project is Ivan Chermayeff, he really inspired me with the collage work he does but also his portfolio of logos. When they are all put together, they all have a similar style, very crisp and clean with bright colors. I want to incorporate all those elements into my Zine.

🔗 Where Logos Meet Album Covers: Designer Ivan Chermayeff
Its a Substack about a designer of iconic logos that turned his hand to (not so iconic) album covers.
I like some of them - but probably not iconic because the artists of the albums aren’t as big as the corporates either the logos.
