Reading God Emperor of Dune is an experience cause one moment Leto is philosophising about the nature of faith, prophecy, and government while playing 36-dimensional space tiddlywinks to prevent humanity's extinction, and then in another he's spouting the most sexist bullshit while lamenting that his dick stopped working 3000 years ago
The greatest feeling of writing fanfiction for me:
Writing about something that's never really detailed in the main lore only for official content to come out about it, showing that your interpretation was damn near spot-on.

it's very funny to me that no dune adaptation ever gets past like, leto II ascending the imperial throne
because i promise you the setting gets weird in ways you do not expect
like the whole *tone* shifts in book 4, and then again for the last 2
people don't know about the fuckass tleilaxu biotech that's become commonplace by book 5
nobody knows what a slig (hyperomnivorous slug-pig-thing that's basically the ultimate cleanup organism that also tastes really good) is, or a chairdog (the chair is alive and loves you). there's just ixian shit around too by that point again
like the butlerian prohibition doesn't actually stick
there's just robot servants and cyborg surgeries and guild navigators lost their monopoly to advanced navigation computers long ago
spice gets mass produced by the tleilaxu no worms needed
like the whole setting is just almost unrecognisable
and the plot isn't even really about that! that's all just background developments!
the first 4 books are millenia-old history by book 5 and consequently the image people have of the series from the movies isn't actually representative of the story as a whole
What happened to the white vampires in ixian there seems to be very few compared to the first time.
When your mechanical heart is the factions, you have more space to show the different groups. Lost Caverns of Ixalan’s mechanical heart was about expressing underground, so it had less space which, in turn, meant less space for things like white Vampires.
Hello spicy new followers. Friendly reminder I'm not only exclusively book based but have so many characters on here all locked ready and loaded for your RPing pleasure outside the big guns (Duke Leto/Paul/ maaaaAAAaaaybe Feyd?) you know from the movies.
Feel free to peruse my muse list and I encourage you to have fun and really dig into the fun and dirt that is Dune.
House Ordos Arrives! 🐍
💰 https://keyrelic.etsy.com
House Ordos Serpent Sigil - Solid Brass Artisan Keycap for Mechanical Keyboard Inspired by DUNE 2 Westwood Game
A homage to Dune II and Dune 2000 games from legendary Westwood studio. Dune II was a precursor for Real-Time Strategy games. For many, those games were the first contact with the Dune Universe and they still have a special place in our hearts.
House Ordos was a mercantile Great House whose home was an ice-covered planet, Sigma Draconis 4, in the Sigma Draconis star system. House Ordos was most famous for its smuggling of forbidden Ixian technologies into their home planet, and for the wealth that makes them paranoid, but powerful.
⚜️Great for collectors: can be passed down from generation to generation.
If Frank Herbert was smart about it, he could have had Hwi and Idaho bond over the fact that they're both created beings (Hwi as Malky's clone and Idaho as a ghola in a line of gholas), as well as the fact that they tried to deviate from their intended purpose but ultimately failed (the first Idaho ghola tried to prevent Paul's death but failed, Hwi was designed by the Ixians to be Leto's weakness, she turned against the Ixians but became Leto's weakness anyway).
They could even had interesting conflict over the fact that they're both created 'for' Leto, but Idaho rebels against this while Hwi maintains that she loves Leto and wants to be there for him.
And then maybe the love triangle would have made sense and Hwi and Idaho would have had genuine chemistry.
But unfortunately Frank Herbert was not smart about it, so in the book Hwi wants to sleep with Idaho because he's hot. And Idaho wants to sleep with Hwi because he'll bang any woman who reminds him of Lady Jessica.
in general - outside of the narrow classes of imperial schools & ruling houses, the vast majority of mankind has extremely vague ideas of their origins & history. for them, history consists of the ever-fixed Butlerian Jihad, and then whatever they glean out of religious scriptures and what bits of their House history the rulers wish to propagandize. many of the First Islamic farmers on Caladan assume that the Trojan War occurred fairly recently, on their own planet- Achilles, he was one of the Sardaukar, right?- admittedly not helped by the Atreides giving every settlement and landform a Homeric name. many of the lower classes (and some of the upper) disbelieve & regard with suspicion the narrative of mankind descending from a single planet, and hold that their ancestors have always dwelt on the planet they now live on. the sway of religious tradition dictates whether they believe that man was created separately on many planets by God at once, or that those planets & races, and oft the Imperium with them, have always existed & always will. any artefacts you show them to the contrary they'll dismiss as AI-generated.
Sardaukar - see evolution as a bitter process of the fragments of God blessing some branches of Apam Napat and cursing others- Jacob have I loved, Esau I have not. believe themselves to be endpoint of evolution, or rather the point at which a form of life has become strong & restored enough to be able to go forth and liberate all other men from the war of all against all, and give them the Law.
Ixians - conventional monogenetic creationism. won't shut up about the Wisdom & Art of the Creator.
Fremen - acutely aware of microevolution, having observed it in other life & in themselves over the ages, and the Sayyadinat can give account of this clearly. believe adaptation to an environment to be non-random and brought about, poetically speaking, by the jinn of that land teaching the jinn of the species. usually answer talk of macroevolution with a shrug, though the Kynes have recently taught them about it.
Tleilaxu - deeply concerned with evolution, and think that it's Mara and keeps (non-)beings from God. hold that evolution is circular & unchanging.
Bene Gesserit - bitterly & obnoxiously insistent on the scientific truth of atheistic & random evolution; abhor polygenism & autochthonism as the degeneracies of this feudal age. a simplified account of evolution & human origins, adaptable to local religion, is a standard parcel of the Panoplia Prophetica, along with some elementary eugenics that even peasants can benefit from (avoid inbreeding, ancestral traits can manifest after generations of being unseen, traits are inherited from both the mother & the father...)
We're an Atreides stan in this house. Maybe you'd be more interested in bringing the strong-willed Carrinos or the brutalist Harkonnens! You can even create your own Minor house to add to the play and build them up to a Major house! Canons and original characters alike will be welcomed and loved!
This is an upcoming 18+ JCINK roleplay board designed for writers that want to share a love for writing and Dune. Whether it be through the movies or by the books.

• historical growth of their houses as evidenced by grants of land or titles (purchased a custom forum for their planet/territory once previous requirements are met)

Houses Minor - Lesser noble families that lack the resources and territories of Great Houses but still hold status and influence within the feudal hierarchy of the Imperium.
