20 years ago, on this day the first volume of Durarara!! (デュラララ!!) was released in Japan. This volume contains the Dollars/Mika Harima arc, which is the start and readers' first meeting with such a well written plot, complex characters and artsy language.

Happy 20th anniversary to Durarara!! It will be forever my favorite media; no book, anime or manga can come close to the place that Durarara!! has in my heart. It will remain as a unique and one of a kind work, not only to me but to many other readers as well.

this is a rough translation using a lot of google translate because my japanese is very limited still. All corrections are welcome. (I have the raws if anyone wants them)

i love (genuinely) how in canon shizuo and izaya literally cannot be near each other for more than two minutes without something violent happening (unless simon is physically forcing them to still still and eat sushi, presumably over the most intense stare-offs known to ikebukuro) and despite this having been the case the whole time they've known each other the fandom still decided that the raijin quartet was a thing in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

yes actually in between murder attempts they do sit on the roof and eat lunch together with their weird gang nerd friend and their weirder potential necrophiliac friend. we all just decided "yes they have a violent hatred for each other but they also hang out on the way home from school"

this isn't just the english-speaking fandom either; i've seen plenty of raijin quartet drawings from japanese fans as well. and it's not just the shizaya shippers bc i'm not (technically) a shizaya shipper and i adore raijin quartet stuff. it's completely baseless and in fact actively goes against even the earlier novels but who cares. it's amazing and i love it

I have more Shizuo Heiwajima story ideas brewing in my head and need some clarifications about his employer/boss.

Is there a Durarara light novel or any official source that tells us a bit more about Shizuo's boss?

Was he given a name? And how is the company hierarchy structured?

In the English dub, Shizuo says in "Bad-Ass Dude," that Tom was starting a debt-collection agency and hired him. But we then hear both him and Tom mention "the boss" several times.

If Tom started the company, then who is the boss? Is it a partnership? Can I just make things up? 🤣

Shizuo mentions the boss to Kyouhei in the s2 OVA, where he's telling Kyouhei his and Tom's history about becoming friends in middle school. He says his boss pays for all the damage he causes, and that he's a lucky SOB.

He also mentions the boss to Tom when he finds out Akane was lied to by Izaya, when he says: if I get arrested for murder, tell the boss I was fired yesterday.

Also Tom mentions the boss hiring Vorona after speaking to Denis and Simon.

And I think the only time we see the boss is in that episode where Shizuo is arrested on yet again false charges, right after Kyouhei is hurt in the hit-and-run.

So does he have a name?

Or shall I just make up a name and company hierarchy? I guess I can. But if the source material has some background, I'd like to know.
