thank you bestie :)
16. a song that makes me nostalgic
I absolutely love that song, loved it from the very first time it turned up in my spotify weekly discovery list a few years ago. and it makes me nostalgic for... nothing specific. for what is described maybe. I adore the lyrics. the melody. everything about it. thank you for making me think of this song. I'm a bit teary eyed now. <3
24. a song I want as my theme song the easy answer would be:
- because of my name - and this was actually the song I chose (the end of it) when I picked up my graduation certificate up on stage back when I was young and beautiful and even more confused and ahahah so this falls into the nostalgia category as well lol the text fits to this very day, ah well. <3
okay lemme cheat quickly and come up with something more contemporary as my theme song... ah yes, burning hour my beloved!
I guess this song. is actually me in a way.

“Nine won't kneel,” Eight says, the sickly sterile glass-bottle green of the interrogation room casting them in a garish light.
Keeper frowns, all hard lines and age. The lamp swinging overhead casts his sharp features in angular shadows, deepening the discomfort meant for detainees. Currently, the room was empty: it was just an old man and his spy. “They will, if they know what is good for them.”
“They won't. You taught them to be that way,”  Eight points out with the needle-thin end of his pipe, sitting daintily atop the durasteel table as if it were a chaise lounge, “like a good little Imperial. But not enough to bow to the Sith. They have their pride. Their independence. That is why they are,” He pauses. “the best".
Keeper arches a fine brow.
His weekly talks with the Cipher before him were something he secretly looked forward to, though the subject themselves varied from political headaches to anything as mundane as the weather. It was perhaps the only time he was allowed to parse the mystery of the man who called himself Eight- an agent who wore the moniker of a dead woman, and all that the title carried.
Very few were afforded such instances. Fewer still could keep up with his machinations or his mind. His method bred more enemies than friends, and Keeper often found himself assigning the minimum personnel to Eight on account of his difficult behavior.
Insights like these were a gift.
“If I didn't know any better, I would call you envious, Agent. Why the sudden interest?”
“Is it considered strange to be interested in our counterparts now?” Eight smiles at him.
Keeper finds it reminds him of the false face of a poisonous insect: permanently at ease, painted on, artificial, yet a warning and an invitation all at once. The smoke curls from his pipe, accentuating the silence in the air.
“No. Perhaps not.” Keeper replies, his hands still clasped behind his back.
“I'm not going to interfere, if that's what you're asking.”
Keeper pinches his thin nose bridge, the inflection in Eight’s voice alerting him prematurely to what was heading into unpleasant conversational territory of the migraine kind. Eight always did know how to read between the lines, and years of dancing around one another had made him adept at knowing the old man’s silence better than his words. “Not directly. We wouldn't be having this conversation at all if you weren't. In fact, I’m ordering you as of right now to do nothing.” He locks eyes with him, leaving no room for argument in the steeliness of his gaze. They stare at each other until the younger gives in.
“Bah, you're no fun,” Eight whines, turning away from him like a petulant child.
Keeper shakes his head. Eight was a handful and liked to make it everyone else's problem; it was how he was. Yet beneath that slacking attitude was a blade more sharply honed than any other, and woe befall those who failed to recognize its glint before it was too late. It made him effective. Impersonal. His instincts were good, if not better than any other in their division, and this made him as destructive as a precision-guided missile yet as accurate to his goals as a dart striking center.
Something to do with his ecology, Keeper recalled, though the specifics escaped him; Eight was Near-Human, yet found the Empire's distaste for aliens a “waste of time” and so waved the human-passing card more often than not.
His appearance was once again, a falsehood. His identity, a convenient lie. They spoke of him in dead-end rumors and baseless whispers that made him more of a ghost story inside Intelligence than a service member, the most prominent of these stories being that he had once been a Chiss woman who surgically altered her appearance to escape her previous life.
Eight did nothing to discourage it.
He never was one to follow the rules amidst Imperial rigidity, bending them every chance he was given and otherwise. Keeper suspected this was why the higher-ups kept him most cycles on Dromund Kaas- fearing he’d stray far out of bounds the minute they gave him any length of leash. For that, he and Keeper came to know one another very well.
By the time he’d returned to the present outside of the quagmire of his mental dossier on the agent, Eight had ditched all decorum to lie flat on his back atop the durasteel table with his folded hands cushioning the back of his head. Getting bored, it seemed.
“Credit for your thoughts?” Keeper asks, surprised by his own pleasant tone amidst the emptiness.
Eight exhales lungs full of smoke in reply. He removes one hand from behind his shock of white hair to hold his pipe between two fingers- “like a Red Light District whore,” some of the more…derogatory members of their branch had said. Said members had since been disciplined and lectured on their poor choice of verbage, but Keeper was inclined to agree that even the smallest of his habits were quite suggestive- no doubt intentional on his part. He made no effort to hide it. What was taught had become second nature, and in Eight’s case, he saw no division between his personal self and that of a Cipher.
He taps the ash from the thin pipe on the side of the table, extinguishing the thin trail of smoke that indicated their time was up.
“Let's make a deal,” Eight says, propping himself up on his elbows to twist around and look at Keeper with a heady light in his fawn eyes. It was routine. He’d propose a game, and they’d play accordingly. It was easier than arguing over mission specifics where Keeper knew Eight would force his own way regardless, and so he appealed to his penchant for gambling and let chance decide what path the agent chose to follow.
“Go ahead.”
“If Nine doesn't kneel, transfer the investigation of Jadus to me.”
Keeper pauses, the words dying on his tongue as he looks at his agent with nothing short of bewilderment. “What are you asking of me, Eight?” What could you possibly want from a man like that? goes unsaid between them, but Eight hears it in the stressed twitch of his lower lip, and smiles still.
His current fascination with Jadus was nothing new, but ever since he’d missed the debacle of the elusive Sith arriving at headquarters he’d been quiet. Moody, even. Planning something was an understatement- whatever was brewing in his head had been for weeks. Keeper almost didn't want to know.
Eight doesn't elaborate. That was how the game was played. Rules and rewards. No questions.
“If Nine doesn't kneel,” He repeats slowly, “I won't lift a finger.”
Keeper sticks him with a look that could wither water. “You are making me bet against the house.”
Eight shrugs. “It was your call.”
Keeper sighs- a deep one that comes from the depths of his diaphragm. Loathe as he was to admit it, Eight was right: Nine shone as a figure free from the manipulative claws of the Sith. Officers respected them for keeping their head unbowed- their quiet dignity made them the pride of Intelligence and that of the Imperial military. Those who stood up to their superiors were few and far in-between, and Keeper made it a point that Nine’s autonomy was to be protected. He had made it his life’s work to keep them free of their influence, in the hopes that their Empire could grow beyond their reach.
So why was Eight asking this of him?
“I don't want you anywhere near him.” Keeper shoots him down, the risk too great to be worth considering. He would not lose two Ciphers to a megalomaniac.
“Keeper.” Eight’s tone takes on a deadly gravity, one that Keeper recognizes as the calm before the storm.
“No, Eight.” Keeper holds his ground, his eyes stormy. He jabs an accusatory finger at the younger operative. “I bit my tongue when he came. I let him into our operations. He took our best- I will not give him more.”
Eight goes nonverbal. When he meets his unchallenged gaze again, there is darkness dawning in his eyes.
“A warrior protects his people from those who come from beyond the stars,” He speaks in the familiar purr of Cheunh, alien from the throat of one who lacked their blue skin, and Keeper sucks in a sharp intake of breath at the horror that overtakes him.
“Do not bring her into this!”
“To fight those who mean our way of life harm,” He continues, steady, like a mantra. His eyes bore into Keeper, seeing beyond him, digging beneath his skin and gently cutting him open layer by excruciating layer with all that they see in the twist of his aged features- all that he does not say.
“Keeper.” He repeats, sitting upright with his legs dangling. One hand grips the edge of the table, the other- to Keeper’s surprise and dismay, is extending his pipe to him in an offering for peace. He lets it swivel on the balance of his finger around, the mouthpiece facing Keeper. All the while, the set resolution of his gaze never leaves him, and Keeper glares at the item as if it offends him grossly.
Not out of anger towards his agent, but towards these Force-damned circumstances and the games they must play.
Keeper bites back a swear, taking the pipe from Eight’s outstretched fingers and stuffing it hastily into his thinly pressed lips. He inhales with all the professionalism of one exposed to far too many questionable substances in his youth and the desperation of a man who needs it for the days to come.
“I will use him, as he will use me. But if we do not take this chance to earn his trust, we risk losing the most powerful of allies we could gain.” Eight speaks smooth and low, his voice as delicate as garrote wire and twice as cutting to Keeper. “I will join him. It matters not whether he cares to have me by his side- only if I can turn his power into ours. Nine will not have to give themselves up.”
Keeper ruminates, though he hardly needs to. When it comes to risk and beings of immense danger, no one is better suited. He saw the way Nine stiffened at Jadus’ selection, the way the pain and suffering of the rest of Intelligence affected them. Jadus would break them.
Eight on the other hand, had nothing left inside to break.
He spits out a stream of smoke through the corner of his mouth- quick and unpleasant, to show his dissatisfaction. Keeper turns the pipe back over to Eight. His eyes speak of regret. “Damn you. Damn you and him.”
“Curse me later,” Eight says, lighting a weak flame beneath his pipe, “you haven't even seen how the dice rolls.”
—-----------------
Nine limps out of Jadus’ office smelling of burnt fabric and ozone. Their pride is in tatters, for what good they did to preserve it.
Eight watches from afar, hidden as blue collar personnel melted into the backdrop of the Sith sanctuary.
He touches a finger to his private comm.
“It’s my win, Keeper.”

Years of playing this game, at last - Jadus have fought with Revan Reborn. Recruited by Darth Malgus to face a grave threat against the Emperor during his fight for survival against Darth Thanaton. However, his sense of duty to the Empire - and political maneuver - urged him greater than the older Sith’s attempts on his life.
A battle that saw the greatest step into a grand destiny for a young Sith Lord as he dueled with Revan. Even with Tulak Hord’s personal dashade at his side, it was a near fatal duel until the timely arrival of Darth Baras’ apprentice (whom he’ve met with before) and interventions of a deadly bounty hunter and mysterious agent.

Debunking misinformation about Netflix's The Witcher (Part 6)
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5]
"Henry Cavill is the only one out of the cast and crew that knows anything about the source material and cares about it."
Joey Batey has read the books more times than Henry Cavill has. (3 times as of 2023 vs once in 2018.)
Tumblr media
Henry Cavill himself has basically admitted that he wouldn't want to go up against Joey when it comes to knowledge of the books and both Freya Allan and Kim Bodnia have praised Joey for how knowledgeable he is and that he could "give Henry a run for his money."
youtube
Henry Cavill also hadn't even read the books and had likely only ever really played TW3 (and not even the DLC for it) when he first met with Lauren and, given that he thought that the books were based off the games, it's likely that he never bothered to google or wiki or research the franchise in any way (despite proclaiming himself to be a lore buff) as surely he would've found out that the games were actually based off the books if he had (or, y'know, if he had just been paying attention to the game credits as the books are the first thing in the credits.) Yet despite all of that, he's said this:
"I didn't even have the need to prepare myself for the role. Because I breathe, I live this universe every day. I already got numerous opportunities to think about this character while I was playing the games. My preparation was already made before the casting started!"
Meanwhile Therica Wilson-Read had played the games, she set out to read the books as soon as she had the opportunity to audition, she goes back and reads bits of the books if not the full series before each season, and she even goes on the wiki and watches youtube videos to refresh herself on the universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therica's book collection (with color coded notes!), btw:
Tumblr media
Mecia Simson also jumped straight into the books and read them all as soon as she was cast and will go on the wiki to research things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cassie Clare on her preparation as Philippa.
Tumblr media
Btw, Joey had less than 24 hours to prepare for his audition and in that time he memorized 2-3 scenes, wrote an entire song, and showed up in costume to audition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therica is also so knowledgeable about the books and the franchise that MyAnna Buring will go to her for advice on her character and understanding what's happening when she needs things explained to her.
youtube
Mahesh Jadu also went to Joey for advice on his character when he was first cast because Joey's known to be so knowledgeable about the books.
youtube
Joey's also the one who's gotten book scenes and characters written into the show, btw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Freya talking about getting things from the books into the show, too:
Tumblr media
Anya talking about book moments she's a fan of:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Anya making a book reference to BoF:
Tumblr media
Joey making a book reference to what a diary by Jaskier would look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lauren's talked about her hiring process for the writers which obviously includes having read the books.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tomek Baginski, who worked on all three games btw, has talked about growing up with the books as a teenager in Poland.
Tumblr media
There's loads more examples than this, but this argument is quite obviously complete and utter bullshit anyway and I don't really want to look up every little example proving that, so. I'll just let the post end on this note:

Hello! How do you think the SVE Adventurers (+ Mages too if its ok) react about learning that the farmer had 0 lvl combat experience or training when they joining the adventurers guild?
Preferably, they learned this by the time they already reached at the Crimson badlands for a while now
The game repeatedly reminds us that being an adventurer is a risky job. one adventurer even died to slimes. So why did Marlon just give the new farmer a rusty sword and went "Yeah, I done enough" and went to his merry way??? Its probably the first time they even held an sword, being fresh out of joja and all that.
So I can imagine an Adventurer/Mage noticing the farmer's rough fighting style in the Desert and asking them about who trained them and the farmer's like "Oh, yeah I'm self taught" and their Colleague being "???"
A little lyrical digression: in truth, Marlon is not exactly accepting someone with no experience into the Guild. If Farmer was able to kill at least ten slimes, they're already worth something. Especially since the old adventurer guessed that Farmer was a stubborn person and they would go to the Mines. So he gave them at least something to use in self-defence. Although on such an occasion, it would have been more logical not to let Farmer into the Mines at all, but there was no official ban on entry. Marlon's job is to guard the entrance so the monsters don't get out, but if any humans go in, that's a whole different story.
But that's me digressing, now let's get to the question.... Thanks for the question, by the way, dear anon! 💕
_________________________________________
Isaac:
Suspicions. Lots and lots of suspicions, which, for now, Isaac keeps to himself and doesn't share even with Alesia. Is he the only one who finds it rather odd that a person who has not had at least some experience in combat behind them has become a professional adventurer in a short time, willing to tackle even the horrors of the Crimson Baldlans? Farmer is either a cheater or not who they says they are, because well that's just not possible. And that pisses Isaac off a lot to the point where his facial scar starts to hurt a little. He'll be watching Farmer from a distance to find out what they're up to. And he'll keep his hand on the hilt of his sword if they do something stupid.
Lance:
Although it was rare, there were adventurers and wizards in history who, being beginners, were able to master in a short period of time such techniques and spells that were inaccessible even to adepts of their craft. Lance was the same - in addition to his natural gift in sorcery, he very quickly learnt the basics of magic, sem his peers. But even his quick learning was monitored. Farmer, on the other hand, had shown up very suddenly, so he understood his own and his other colleagues' suspicions. However, a few personal tests and communication with Farmer had dispelled all doubts of the pink-haired man. Nevertheless, he still considers Farmer to be the most mysterious person Lance has ever had to work with.
Alesia:
Of course, it is rather odd that there was no report or mention of Farmer earlier. The Castle Village archives hold files not only on the adventurers living here, but also from other Guilds or self-styled adventurers who had shown themselves in one way or another and could be considered as candidates who could be officially authorised to enter the Castle Village. She doesn't remember the Farmer among the documents. But the sniper trusts her former teacher Marlon, and if the old adventurer has faith in Farmer, then they really are worth something. Moreover, the Farmer shows themself to be a completely honest, brave and good person. Alesia even wonders what the young warrior is still capable of...
Jadu:
Truth be told, Jadu was busy with his own important business to listen to the local gossip and delve into the new Stardew Valley Guild member. But as time passed, the rumours about the mysterious warrior grew more and more, and he became curious as well. Most often, the young adventurer whispered that this Farmer had gone from a novice to a true professional in six months, chopping down monsters in Crimson Baldlans left and right. Which put Jadu in a stupor. He had recently asked Camilla about Farmer's background, and they really had no experience in past. Strange... However, Camilla is taking a very keen interest in them. She definitely can't be fooled, so if she's interested in Farmer, then they really are gifted. So Jadu is ok with Farmer.
Camilla:
Hee hee... For Camilla, this is no hindrance or reason to doubt about the Farmer. Even though even they are an adventurer and a mage only recently, she senses great potential in them. She also feels some of her friends and colleagues are a bit distrustful of Farmer. But any good mage and professional adventurer will notice that Farmer is a true uncut diamond, which with proper attention will prove themself even better than now. The main witch of Castle Village will let the Farmer solve their problem with distrust of others in themselves, at the same time to check how they will behave in such a situation. She will watch them with a mysterious smile...

Poker night with the farmer and the adventurers
Who would be good at poker?
I think Lance and Camilla would be the best since they would both keep a vague smiling face and it would be impossible to guess what they are thinking.
The farmer is also be surprisingly good at it since they will have a wide variety of expression that don't necessarily match with whatever cards they have.
Marlon and Gill are old adventurers who are very familiar with game nights among their peers and know their fair share of tricks (and cheats).
Isaac would suck at it since he's too easy to annoy.
Alesia and Jolyne are good at the game but prefer to watch others play.
Magnus is a joy killer who finds these types of game a waste of time.
Jadu probably prefers more complex and engaging table top games but gets outvoted every time and has to play card games with the rest of the players.

My headcanon for my SWTOR imperial agent is that the hallucinations never really went away after he broke free from the mind control — he suffered some irreversible neurological damage in the process, which he just never told anyone about. The hallucinations eventually settled as something predictable tho (this is a scifi video game headcanon it doesn’t have to be realistic) where he sees/hears Jadus when someone is trying to influence him via the force, Watcher X when shit hits the fan during a mission and he needs to focus on being coldly analytical and pushing his emotions aside, and he sees Hunter when someone is lying to him or trying to manipulate him. It’s basically how his subconscious warns him when something feels wrong.
So one day after he’s joined the alliance he walks into his quarters and Hunter is just sitting there like « hey babe, missed me? » but Cypher just figures it’s an hallucination again, business as usual, so he ignores him and gets himself a drink and tries to think about why his paranoia is making him think he’s being manipulated this time
And Hunter is like « lol okay silent treatment, rude »
Until Theron walks in and is like WHOMST. THE FUCK. IS THAT????
And that is how Cypher Nine finds out that Hunter is back from the dead

actually i can't resist [1 day tumblr will let me send asks from sideblogs too but until then!]. is there arkady lore already prepared that we may perceive? 👀 how's he like being in intelligence (if agent is going to be any sort of canon for him)? any fun/interesting backstory tidbits for him you particularly enjoy?
Arkady lore... let's see
His nickname is Ary. Not a lot of people in-game will get to use that, but I probably will sometimes when I'm yakking about him. ^^ I haven’t settled on a last name yet, but I’ll add it to his tag when I figure something out.
I'm really leaning toward having him and Samara hook up any time he's back on Dromund Kaas. They're both using each other--aside from the sex--for their own reasons. He's using her for rumors etc about the DK social scene as things that could maybe be leverage, she's using him to seem connected and mysterious and get people talking about her. (Toying with saying the Star Cabal kills her during the Act 3 mess to send a message. Dunno if I want to be that mean, but it's v James Bond and fits for Agent story so we'll see.) he’s doing at least part of the endgame/expac content bc Lanamance. :3
I thought about saying he's Keeper's kid bc there's some facial feature similarities, but don't think I'm gonna do it. I think his family's from Ziost bc that’s juicy. They run a speeder repair shop or something. He doesn’t have a great relationship with them, was looking to join the military as a way to get away. His aptitude skewed more toward Intelligence work, so he went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sure, why not. (He was very My Reasons Are My Own w/Keeper about it) He very much enjoys the work, even if he’s slightly less of a patriot than most of my agents. Not crazy about the Sith, but smart enough to keep that opinion to himself. He may possibly be my first agent to kill Jadus instead of talking him down. We shall see. 👀👀
Only backstory tidbit is not exactly fun: the reason for his less-than-charitable feelings toward the Sith is a Sith killed one of his friends for being just a little too mouthy when he was a teen. So he’s v sympathetic to Karrels’ situation while on Hutta and may have let him live as a result. 🤫

Was struck by a thought drifting in and out of sleep last night as to what kind of fear Jadus represents, if he focuses solely on that emotion, and I realized... he might represent the fears of the Sith.
It's easy to say he represents the worst of what a Sith could be. Yet he acts nothing like the rest of his peers. He hates them so much as to not have a single force-user in his power base. He disavows hate itself in Sith terms, saying it does nothing for him; when approached with the subject of Zhorrid dying like a true Sith, he says he does not care for it. He spends the entirety of chapter 1 spreading his agenda: th democratization of fear. But what does this mean, beyond simple insane chaos that most write off as the ravings of a madman?
Easy. The Sith constantly say how hate, anger, pain will free you and break your chains. It will give you power beyond your wildest dreams. Many such Sith rise to power from nothing through this code. Why hoard it for only force-users who then perpetuate this petty cycle of their society? It stands to reason that Jadus believes even the lowest of citizens in the Empire could do the same if he spread his power to them and gave them the chance to break their chains, so to speak, which is why he is so intent on only democratizing fear to those he feels would benefit from it most. The slaves. The aliens. The insignificant and nameless. These are his power base and these are the masses he wants to give power to. He sees his brand of hatred and fear as a gift; a chance to transcend your boundaries rather than mere suffering-- a fact few understand when they are broken by it, such as Zhorrid and those aboard the Dominator. In the end, few could bear his vision of the world.
His vision represents the worst fears of the Sith: of commoners that outnumber them gaining power from their own Code and overthrowing them. Not to mention Jadus' own pro-alien support, which he is right about being uncompromised in their ideals if the agent is an alien although a bit spacist in assumption: it's that difference in power and experiences that guarantee said agent not to be blind to the corruption and biased in the Empire. To know exactly what it means to be at the lowest on the rung.
Jadus wants to break Sith society in every way. He represents the deepest of fears of a people who no longer can feel such a thing, comfortable atop their thrones built on the backs of others. Others like Marr reinforce the status quo. Then some like Malgus too want to change its ways, but none so drastic as to give power to non-human, non-Sith slaves, much less treat those beneath you as a potential equal. Jadus is generous to the Agent, if you are not cowed by his pretense of fear. Other Sith would choke you where you stand, but he constantly gives the Agent opportunity to discuss. He allows a verbal victory. He does not even hold the thought of retaliation. It's clear he respects the Agent even as his enemy, though most do not read it as such if you disrespect him when he orders you to kneel (a very, very basic courtesy any Imperial save for green recruits would extend).
This does not wipe clean his sins and he is very much a being of terror and pain, but it's an interesting examination of one that many treat like any other terrible Sith when he is... nothing like them even in his ideals. As his Hand, he does not press you into constant tasks with the threat of failure like Marr; he asks you to do one thing that is quite easy if you have the time to and doesn't bother you about it afterwards. Then, there's the matter of him generously funding Intelligence even after its dissolution, which was a surprise given he could've left the Hand to fend for themselves.
Overall, Keeper is not thrilled by it as the game more or less implies you're a loyalist lapdog if you do choose Jadus, which is a bit strange given your master's plans which are very much not that.
Anyhow, it's all food for thought. Jadus is an interesting, one-of-a-kind Sith that I'm glad wasn't shoehorned into death or reuse. His element of open mystery serves him better than most.
