roadman! tom riddle finally learns harry is a time traveller (part 5)
part 4: here
harry: i’m from the future.
tom: say swear.
harry: … swear what?
tom: yea like wallahi cuz? you know??
harry: what?
tom: like an oath innit?
harry: what oath?
tom, sighing: tsk never you mind. so you’re actuals from the future? you’re taking the piss, yeah?
harry: i’m not. you grow up to become lord voldemort and will start the first wizarding war in your 50s, in which you are responsible for killing my parents and attempting to kill me. and then you die.
tom, looking gobsmacked: no way fam, show me.
harry: how???
tom: tsk let me into your mind. legillimency and that.
harry: no! you’re going to have to take my word for it.
tom: come on now, don’t be like that, just a lil peek n i’ll dash.
harry: …
tom: *smiling charmingly*
harry: fine.
[tom performs legilimency and is watching with keen interest until he comes across the graveyard resurrection scene]
tom, abruptly pulling away: mate who the fuck is that ugly mug?????
harry, smirking: thats you.
tom, holding his head in his hands with despair: you’re actuals serious. no way that clapped ting is me.
harry: it is…
tom: the mans got no hair! i lost my hair and my nose?
harry, unimpressed: thats your main concern???
tom, ignoring him and still muttering to himself: nah bruv best believe you lot will not catch me lacking.

Charles’ patches and pins :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SKA pin: Quick History lesson because I had no idea what it was: definitely google more:
SKA is a music genre that originated in Jamaica. In the 70s a lot of Jamaicans immigrated to the UK. Punks and young Jamaican immigrants felt a sense of unity due to both being screwed over by the system. This led to 2 Tone SKA which mixed SKA with punk rock elements. While 2 Tone SKA is a genre, it was also a movement that focused on racial unity.
Rude Boy patch: In late 60s Jamaica RudeBoys were young “delinquents” who listened to rocksteady music. Term was used in England to refer to fans of SKA and 2 tone. Think the other insults used for punks that have been reclaimed.
Checker Print pin: Represents racial unity in the movement.
Target patch: Symbol for the Mod subculture. Google this one to.
Union Jack pin (on bag) and patch: He sure is British
Smiley face pin: I believe it’s just a generic smiley face but it could be a logo.
Unknown metal(?) pin: I can’t get a clear enough look at it to even begin to guess what it is.
Unknown pin: I have no idea. The one between the metal one and the checker print. No a clue.
Unknown flag(?) pin: A flag with horizontal blue, yellow, and red stripes but I can’t find anything with those colors in that order.

I love how after you explain to someone what “bomboclaat” means they just say it even more and act like it’s an everyday thing people say 🫥…

Okay so ok there’s the whole demons speaking every language automatically so you can’t insult them in like Spanish or anything BUT I only see white languages present would they understand like French creole or know the differences between Trinidadian patois and Jamaican patois?👀 or would they be completely stumped bc I really doubt satan would understand what my grandma is saying and even then a heavy accent? Yeah no google translate ain’t saving them😂

Pinkpantheress scares me because she’s mixed but looks soooo British. Like undeniably British and it’s just going to get worse because she already looks like a 40yo woman named Sandra who likes chippy teas while watching Only Fools and Horses

people are always so surprised when i list reggae as one of the two genres that had the most influence on goth music (the other being post-punk). Despite "Bela Lugosi's Dead" being the clearest and most well-known example of reggae's influence on this genre, this is the song i usually show them as an example, because the influence here is subtle enough that you can miss it, if you don't know what to look for:
youtube
[from 1986]
listen closely to the drum, especially after 0:40. you can hear the counterpoint (i think that's the right word in english? in spanish i know it as 'tumbao') that sets the rhythm for the whole song. it's a call-and-response kind of percussion (subtly syncopated), where two distinct parts seem to play off each other (by cutting each other off) to construct and maintain it. put simply, it kind of sounds like two 'halves' of a drum are in conversation. but they act as one.
listening to any Jamaican dub song (like this piece from 1976) makes it clear where goth music drew inspiration from in its beginnings. the deep, rich bass, the counterpoint of the drums, the slow tempo, the broody, melancholic sound of it. most or all of these elements from dub carried over to reggae, and were subsequently taken and infused into post-punk, new wave, gothic rock, darkwave, etc etc.
just listen to this (starting from the 2:50 mark)...
youtube
[from 1984]
...and the leap from the Jamaican dub song linked above to this one by The Danse Society suddenly doesn't seem so huge.
here's a different song from much later, where the influence from reggae is undeniable just from listening to the first few seconds:
youtube
[from 1991]
and a much more recent song:
youtube
[from 2023]
here the drum machine and the guitar take center stage, and have a more on-beat, unbroken sound, but you can still make out the bass being "in conversation" with itself in the background (same with the hazy synth that starts in at 0:27).
(i should note this sort of inter-dependent call-and-response is not unique to dub or reggae, or even to the West African music that serves as their foundation (though some would argue the expression of it through percussive instruments is). it can also be found in South Indian ragas (or ragaams) and Tuvan throat singing, for instance.)

I am still thinking about my little performer peppino hc. Not like stage performing but like. The same kind of energy of chefs that work hibachi grills in front of customers? Some people will do the job but some people like to be a little flashy ✨
There was a pizzeria by me that was SO fucking small, u could see the oven and small storage room behind it. But that meant u could see like both chefs making their pizzas. And one of them was SO flashy he was just having a good time. I usually ordered ahead of time to go bc it would take 20 some odd minutes to get an order done but sometimes pizza was an afterthought so id come in and have to wait the full 20 minutes. And its late in the evening and its kinda slow. But hes like spinnin that dough in the air and all that shit and i know what he does during the busy hours so i know hes just flexing. Or maybe he was just vibin who knows. And hed do this thing w the string to tie the box tight that i CANNOT find online but its like, turning the box incredibly fast and looping the strings over itself until the whole box has 8 separate strings that make a cute bow in the center like bro what the fuck that was magic bro howd u do that shit. I think its nice; i like seeing people own their profession. Its his job for like the rest of his life and people love the food and the atmosphere is nice and chill and he gets to flex his skills at 9pm 🍕💖
