I got a very cool Valentine’s Day gift from my lady. This is a first UK edition of James Agee’s masterpiece ‘A Death in the Family.’ It won the Pulitzer Prize and I have a first of the American but I’m glad to set this beside it. This has become a novel I return to every couple years. If you haven’t read it, I suggest it. Interestingly, I’m doing a little presentation on prose poems in a poetry class tomorrow, and some have argued that this book has long sections of prose poems between chapters of more traditional prose. I will use it as an example in the presentation of passages which walk the line between rhymed or rhythmed prose and an actual prose poetry. Anyway, the book itself is in Fine condition, however the jacket shows a little rubbing and the small damp spot on the spine. The lettering on the spine tended to fade so I’m pleased to have the full coloration with this copy despite the defect. Samuel Barber

Sunday's Outlander episode reminded me of how much I love Samuel Barber's music. It also completely yanked me out of the story, so that was unfortunate. But back to Samuel Barber.
