currently skipping through my Jamie Hewlett artbook and-
Imagine the cult would've happened during Phase 2 for example. It would be so much- darker, and more horrific, because the phase in itself was quite dark and eerie (which you, in my opinion, can also tell from the drawings) and I would've just liked that vibe far better for a cult ngl 💀💀
YEAH FOR REAL the vibe would've been completely different like just look at this picture
Tumblr media
that would've been fucking baller

Gril Grl…one day I got an email from the Gorillaz management company saying Jamie Hewlett @hewll wanted to know if I would participate in an art book commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Gorillaz founding as a band and could you send sketches. So on a Monday I did five sketches then Tuesday I went for a walk and saw a stop sign with bullet holes and made the sketch in slide two. By Friday I had made 38 sketches and had to admit I was stalling probably from insecurity so that afternoon I sent the sketches and the following week they emailed me that they had loved them all and narrowed it down to six and I had 40 days to get the paintings done. @gorillaz #artbook #urbansurrealism #flyingcar #noodle #russelhobbsgorillaz #gorillaz #jamiehewlett #lowbrowpopsurrealists #pdxartist #portlandartist #gregoryhergert (at Southeast Portland, Portland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgCj6TWlCyk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

YES. Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett is in my mind, absolutely Banksy.
Here are my points:
1. The most damning evidence so far:
A forensics expert told Uk’s Metro in this article, that all corporations associated with Banksy, seem to lead back to Jamie Hewlett:
"Paranoid Pictures, sole production company of Banksy's documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop, is owned by Pest Control Office ltd, the agency used to buy Banksy art," "Pest Control Office is owned by Picturesonwalls Limited, a company used to sell prints of other street artists. Picturesonwalls Ltd. is owned by Jamie Hewlett. Therefore, it seems Jamie Hewlett is the ultimate beneficial owner of all Banksy companies, so if he isn't Banksy, he must be very close to him."
But when Metro emailed Banksy’s publicist, they replied with “I can confirm that Jamie Hewlitt is not the artist Banksy.” Which seems like a very cheeky, intentional misspelling.
2. Similar themes and subject matter.
Banksy’s work appears both in Gorillaz music videos,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and as album art for Blur, whose lead vocalist is Damon Albarn.
Both Banksy and Hewlett are from the UK. Both artist’s work revolve around satirical criticisms of consumer culture, nationalism, and economic inequalities.
Consider the following comparison:
Tumblr media
Both works feature a subversion in social dynamics, and a distinct anti-gun, anti-military stance.
Banksy began appearing as a graffiti artist in the mid-90s, which is when Tank Girl the movie, based off of Hewlett’s comic series, was released into theatres and declared a commercial failure.
Gorillaz, particularly during Phase 1, is heavily loaded with graffiti imagery.
Even the band logo is written in spray paint.
Tumblr media
3. A motive for secrecy.
The reasoning I can find behind why Banksy would go about using stencils for their iconic look, from an artist’s perspective, would be for anonymity. Hewlett’s style is highly recognizable.
From what I can tell, Banksy’s pieces are constructed with clear thought, intention, and their understanding of the fundamentals of colour, tone, contrast, and composition, are clearly evident. In other words, this isn’t the work of some artistic novice. Whoever Banksy is, they have plenty of former experience as an artist already.
And Banksy’s trademark use of black and white stencil figures effectively conceals any stylistic giveaways that could be used to identify them as a particular artist. Why else would someone want to disguise their own visual style, or perhaps develop a new one attached to this persona other than to hide their own identity as a world famous artist?
Okay, and here’s my final point.
4. Dismaland (2015)
Dismaland was a large scale outdoor art exhibition, featuring performance art, interactive multimedia pieces, and live musical acts, among other things. It featured performances by De La Soul (who are long time collaborators with Gorillaz) and also... Damon Albarn.
AND ANOTHER thing about Dismaland… where the fuck did Banksy get all this start-up money anyway? I suppose nowadays Banksy could be making a decent amount of cash off of their own brand, via merch, artbooks, galleries, and auctions. But enough to support an event of that caliber? Enough to hire security crews, paid actors to perform in the exhibits, and audio engineering teams to set up live band performances?
I’m curious as to how Banksy was able to contact and afford some big name contemporary artists for the show (like Jenny Holzer, Damien Hirst). I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to network with famous artists if you’re just a regular guy who’s secretly Banksy and can’t tell anyone (unless you are one already).
Anyway, that’s my theory, and I’m stickin with it. Jamie Hewlett is in my mind absolutely Banksy.

Interview with Jamie proving that he never read the canon written by Cass Browne. :)
I just read two interviews with Cass Browne and Jamie Hewlett about the cut out plot of the Third Phase, and now I can tell you the joke of the day. Look below. On both screenshots, the scenario of what actually happened during Plastic Beach. Read carefully; they completely contradict each other.
The words of Cass:

The words of Jamie:

And that is not all. Here are two versions of the Cyborg Noodle’s origin.
According to Cass, apparently, demons tricked Mudz by giving him Cyborg instead of the real Noodle: he signed contracts with demons in hell, them promised to release Noodle, Murdoc returned home and found Cyborg. You can read it on the upper picture.
But Jamie said Murdoc built her, guess why? That's right, because Noodle was unwanted, and Cyborg was completely under his control.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently, our dear artist didn’t even read what his co-author wrote, he didn’t see the artbook ever in his life. According to the “canon” in Jamie’s head, Murdoc always thought that Noodle, I cite, “always stood in the way,” and he was even glad that she disappeared or died.
And the whole story about “Noodle is my daughter, I love her,” which we have been given as truth almost since the First Phase, is, apparently, a massive hallucination of fans and Cass. :) Cool, ain’t it? "What is the canon of Rise of the Ogre? No, I have not heard about it."
Now I understand from where Noodle’s schizophrenic statement got out in chats with Mudz in 2018 - about the fact that he was trying to kill her. And why the story of Murdoc’s immortality contradicts his biography from Rise of the Ogre. Jamie didn’t read Cass’s canon, why would he if he has his own! And then after this we even complain what’s wrong with the plot, why everything contradicts everything, the characters acts not like themselves, and where are the normal stories.
I would not want to overshadow the honest name of Jamie, but now I don’t even know should I cry or laugh.
I don’t understand Jamie. Does he want to turn Murdoc into a villain in our eyes, and incite hatred towards him, knowing that Murdoc is favorite character of half of the fandom? At the same time doing chats where we need to save him from prison. Showing Mudz crying, which, apparently, should make us feel sorry for him. Letting Cass write painfully sad backstory for Murdoc. Did Jamie care at all what story was written before, until Cass left Gorillaz??
