The costumes this season are markedly better than last season. The tailoring is much, much better so the costumes actually fit the actors. The bunching and puckering of the costumes last season bothered me to no end.

Royalty should look like Royalty. Sorry Jany Temime, but you were not up for this project.
Caroline McCall is more suited for House of the Dragon but she's still not on Michele Clapton's level. My biggest gripe with the costumes this season is that the design team borrowed a little too heavily from Daenerys' closet. They should have taken more chances with the Targaryen costumes, especially for Rhaenyra. I don't know about anyone else, but I assumed that Daenerys wasn't copying the Targaryen clothes of old and was creating her own look with inspiration from all of the different people and places she had contact with. She wore blue because that was Khal Drogo's color of his khalisar, for example.
Too many of Rhaenyra's costumes were a copy/paste of Daenerys'. That being said, Rhaenyra's gown in the season finale with the dragon pauldrons was fucking gorgeous.

I love that it glitters, suggesting both a beautiful gown and warrior's armor. The shoulder embroidery is the real star of the show. As with Game of Thrones, it's Michele Carragh's work that elevates the look to make it truly fit for a queen.
I hope they take try something different with Rhaenyra next season to make look like a different character than Daenerys, because she is. But I'm overall very pleased with the costumes this season.

i’m always shit talking the outfits bc i think michele clapton should be tried at the hague but also i actually love these outfits so much it’s my dream to own a replica one day
4. Bran’s direwolf gorget. it’s just gorgeous, his longer hair looks adorable with it, it’s basically the only cool thing they ever let my son wear

3. Arya’s Ned Stark Cosplay. I love everything about the dress, texture, cut, color, it’s perfect, i love her fancy, baller ass furs that match it, but above all i love the shoulders on the leather doublet, the silhouette brings the whole look together, I want it on my body now.

2. Rhaenyra’s post-birth dress. I think the arryn inspired colors look amazing together, the fabric on the sleeves, the pattern on the top, the whole cut is just really amazing. i want it so bad, it’s so pretty (it also doesn’t clash with her hair, which is amazing considering some of the other choices they’ve made with targ hair lol)

1. Sansa’s purple flower dressing gown. It is my dream to own a replica of this dress. the colors, the sleeves, the front part, the pattern, i want to marry this dress. i want to be buried in this dress. i want to be rich so i can buy the replica on etsy for this dress but i cannot justify dropping like $600 on a single item of clothing even though i would wear it all day every day.

#hotd is jany temime not michele but jany also has some misses. see young rhaenyra’s ugly puke colored dress.#getting on my soap box

In the beginning, Alicent Hightower is a good girl, so she’s going to wear the dress of her mom. The color of House Hightower is green, so her dress is green. She’s always trying to please people, so when she marries the king, she wears red and black dresses. But eventually, she says, “You know what? F*ck it. I don’t want to be this little queen who says yes to everybody.” When Alicent really becomes herself, she appears in this green dress. I wanted it to look magnificent when she walks in, so I gave her this train made of chiffon to give her movement power and a certain sexiness. ⏤ Jany Temime, Costume Designer in Season One

Reblogging for Grey Redux.
The costume designer for this film was Jany Temime.

One Dress a Week Challenge
June: Grey
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire / Clémence Poésy as Fleur Delacour
This dress barely appears onscreen, but fortunately, it has been exhibited. Grey chiffon is an interesting choice for Fleur's dress, but she makes it look sophisticated. The floral edging is a nice design--I thought it was holly leaves at first, which would have been a fun seasonal touch--but I wish they had gone with something that had a stronger contrast with the color of the dress. The color values are a little too close, and it sort of looks like a mistake. I also think the wrap adds something, so it's too bad it wasn't used in the film. I do like the little spray of white in her hair.

why did they make Narcissa's hair mostly black in the film?
I think it's half white to visually communicate to the viewers that she's aligned with/loyal to Lucius and Draco, and half black to visually communicate that she's also aligned with Bellatrix. (and when she's presenting as the most Malfoy - in that newspaper clipping about Lucius in Azkaban - it also looks the most Malfoy-blonde.)

Jany Temime, who did the Harry Potter costumes and who I think is absolutely brilliant, has said that she wanted Narcissa to look extremely chic, but also a little strange. Her clothes all have unusual shine and texture, and - when we meet her - there's a a sharpness and artificiality to her. That aspect of her look gets relaxed as the films go on, and she cares less about "keeping up appearances." By the end, when Narcissa is at her most sympathetic, she's also at her most natural. I think it's very deliberate that when we first see her, her styling evokes Cruella de Ville

but eventually she starts wearing her hair in a way that makes her look *more* like someone who's gone grey at the temples. A "natural" looking styling for an unnatural hairdo.

"I was really excited to work with Amanda Knight, the hair and make-up artist, and the costume designer Jany Temime. Their work combined really encourages you to abandon who you are. I’d catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and only see Aemond Targaryen.
I can’t be anything less than interesting without saying a word. The whole get-up: the long hair, the eye-patch, everything that means and represents, is a tragedy that Aemond wears as well as his Targaryen blacks.
It’s one thing to become a dangerous and proficient swordsman, but to do it with one eye? He’s a whole other monster."
— Ewan Mitchell.
