“You know of my wife’s… illness, I assume,” Ray started.

Alex frowned. Of course he knew. Everyone knew. But what did that have to do with his friend?

He nodded.

“There is not a single remedy known in my kingdom that could help her condition,” the King explained. “They only ever lessen symptoms, but there is nothing that could cure her of the causes.” Something heavy and uncomfortable settled in Alex’s stomach like it always did when people talked about the Queen’s condition. She was so loved by everyone, most of all her family and the family’s friends, to which Alex proudly belonged.

“I am really sorry to hear that,” Alex felt the need to say, despite them both knowing that Alex already knew.

Ray nodded in thanks. He swallowed. “Willie approached me the other day. He was very anxious, that was obvious, but they told me about a plant in Angeles, one that only grows in Angeles, not far from the court. He told me it has the power to cure even the most dire illnesses. People on the brink of death, or those suffering for years. The plant can help them.”

“And Willie thinks this plant can help Queen Rose?”

if i tell you my top songs you might not guess who i am doubtful but other people definitely will 😶 what i can tell you is run away with me by carly rae jepsen is somewhere on my top 100 lol also there is one song in heartstopper that's also on the playlist but i'm not sure i should say which for... paranoia identity reasons 👀 since i was away for a few days i'll ask a bunch of questions: what's your favorite character from heartstopper? have you read the comics? unrelated, but when we were talking about disney channel playlists on discord, you said you've never made any. are there any specific songs that remind you of your favorite characters/ships? - 🎄

I love Tori - I haven’t read anything else in the universe, but I love her character in heartstopper. She pops out of nowhere, is always drinking juice and is a great older sister. I initially related to Charlie the most but then come books 3 and 4 I related more to Nick because of relationships in my own life. I love the comics (not usually a graphic novel person but I adored this series) and I can’t wait to read more by Alice oseman

I feel like I probably had some on like iTunes back when I used that, but I started making some once we talked about it! They’re not done yet, but here’s my Nacy one and my Joe/Stella one (as you know I just rewatched Jonas la so that’s where I started). They don’t know about us has been on my radar lately because of another book I read so I thought that fit Nacy nicely for when they’re being all secretive, but also this song by Teddy Geiger is my ultimate Nacy song but like the acoustic version.

Maybe when I’m not feeling so yucky I’ll make some more playlists 😊

Hiiii, thanks for the ask! I haven't touched that AU in months, but I'm always down to ramble about it, so here's everyone's godly parents....

Julie - Demeter Luke - Apollo Alex - Apollo (Yes, I made them godly siblings...) Reggie - Hermes Willie - Hermes (Because more sibling vibesssss) Kayla - Iris Carrie - Aphrodite (Big shock there, lol!) Flynn - Athena And then Bobby is a satyr.

It's a sorta found family fic with some developing Rayla going on. Some nice sides of Juke introduction, Willex gay panic, and established Flarrie as well. Bobby ends up bringing Sunset Curve to Camp Halfblood after a monster attack and they meet the rest of the crew there. Chaos ensues. I have it outlined, but only a bit is actually written. We'll see if it ever goes anywhere, but it's definitely my biggest idea that has any traction.

the rotten four bc any way you break it down it's fascinating whether you ship them together (i do) or not (i also don't). i am full of many layers, much like an onion. particular huge shoutout to jal (i have many thoughts about jal both platonically and romantically and if i wrote them all out it would be an entire essay).

mack/lela!!! bc like. mack thinks lela is so Like That(tm) but then realizes lela is like, an actualized person! who is her own actual person! and lela realizes that about herself too!!!

cyd/shelby bc they're just sOOOOOOOOO. i cannot express how i feel about them in words. or gifs bc i can't find an hq download. what if we had the power to time travel while we were touching each other and thinking about another time but also we were both girls 👉👈🥺

barry/naldo bc like. barry knows about science and other traditionally "smart" things but naldo knows about people and they complete each other.

audrey and jay but specifically the version of them that i made up in my head that's like ‘we made out a few times at parties but now we're besties about it’. lesbian and her emotional support himbo energy (jay isn't a himbo but that's the best way i can think of to simplify that dynamic)

not supported in canon at all i believe but everything natasha does with nate and mitchie in her camp rock fics fascinates and compels me. i need to watch camp rock again and it's all bc of their fics

Phantom Carols

Day Nine: Couple of Misfits <-AO3!

When Carlos is young, his parents assure him that he can be anything he wants to be when he grows up. “You could even become a dentist!” Ray jokes, though Carlos isn’t exactly laughing.

Being an elf in the North Pole leaves the job opportunities rather slim, you see. His mom works in the letter department, composing replies to every child that writes to Santa on a yearly basis. Dad works with the reindeer, keeping them happy and healthy before they start training for sleigh duty. Even his sister Julie is involved, working as an apprentice in the wrapping department, and the things she can do with a roll of tape are frankly, downright scary.

But as much as Carlos loves Christmas, loves everything that Santa does and stands for, he has no wish to work for him. He’s tried interning in every department, and nothing seems to be a right fit for him.

In the toy making department, all his train wheels turned square and his cowboys ended up riding ostriches. He ended up wrapping himself more than the presents when working with Julie. The reindeer seem to dislike him for some reason, maybe because he made one too many jokes about Rudolph when he was little, and nobody bad mouths Rudolph. His mom even tries to get him to help with letters, but all that does is confirm his dyslexia and explains a whole lot about his grades in elf school.

Carlos is flipping through the books in the library when he comes across the historical version of Rudolph. He had been forced to read it and write a sensitivity essay after Blitzen VII almost gored him after an insensitive comment, but that had been ages ago. There’s pictures of Rudolph’s adventures, the famous elf dentist Hermie, the prospector Yukon Cornelius, the Island of Misfit Toys, now long defunct since Santa gathers them up each year.

Then there’s the character that fascinated him the most-the Bumble. The tamed Abominable Snowman who had once tried to eat the heroes, only to have all his teeth removed, and prove useful to Christmastown. There was supposedly a statue of him somewhere near his old cave, a memorial to mark his final resting place. There had been no sightings of more monsters since then.

Carlos kind of wondered why. Surely there couldn’t have just been one Bumble right? Did he have a family in some far off reaches? Was he related to the Yetis that are in the Arctic mountains? A distant relation to the Sasquatch that supposedly roamed the forests of the Americas?

Carlos wanted to find out, (he also really wanted to see a Bumble bounce) and that’s when he realized this is what he wanted to do. Find all the mysteries of the world, and maybe help them find a place in it. Not taming them, but making them feel useful. Discover their secrets, maybe write a guide to them to help others, so that they weren’t driven to extinction or forced back into hiding.

So Carlos resolved to go, and though his parents worried, they wished him luck. Loaded him up with supplies, and even Julie gave him a roll of tape, “Because you never know when you might need it.”

It turned out that the tape proved quite useful for restraining a nasty drude, a bat-like creature that’s bite gave intense nightmares. Carlos brought him to the Sandman, hoping that the master of dreams could rehabilitate him. From there he met other legends and creatures, making notes, taking pictures, befriending those he could, avoiding those he couldn’t.

Eventually he came back to the North Pole, a few years older, a lot wiser. “I still never found another Bumble,” he lamented.

“I truly do think that the original was the last mijo,” Rose said as she forced some food to him, complaining that he had grown far too skinny during his travels.

“Maybe,” Carlos replied, sipping his hot chocolate. “But I want to check out his cave, just in case.”

The cave was deserted, as he knew it would be. But he did manage to find one of the teeth that Hermie had pulled out, which was a pretty sweet souvenir.

And that Christmas, Santa, always the joker, gifted him a plushy Bumble, which Carlos scowled at, but held tight. He might never find the real thing, but he'll treasure this version of the Abominable Snowman for the rest of his days.

Only… the next year, when Snowman Sam comes back around, strumming his banjo and singing about the tales of Rudolph, Carlos has to ask. Sam has been around since Santa first took up the mantle, he must have some idea about the Abominable right?

Sam does, though he’s reluctant to tell Carlos much, but eventually relents, and Carlos heads even further north. Up to were the aurora is shining constantly, and it’s there that he finds the cave; dark and foreboding.

He comes out with the tiny baby Bumble, obviously abandoned, and brings it home. He’s the size of Carlos, but seems tame enough, and with some love, he becomes a part of the Christmastown family. Helps out as much as he can, when he’s not accompanying Carlos on adventures to find more misunderstood creatures.

And yes, it turns out, Bumbles do bounce.

“A room for two, please,” he told the woman behind the counter, filling out the guest book.

She smiled at them, taking note of how tired Willie looked, and turned towards the shelf where she kept the keys. “One bed alright? Unfortunately we’re all booked on rooms with two beds.”

Alex glanced over at Willie to find him already looking back. He felt his face flush red before he could will it not to, embarrassed and nervous at the idea of sharing a bed with Willie. They have slept pretty closely those past few days, but never in an as intimate space as a bed. Willie averted their eyes, but a small smile tugged at the corner of their lips. If Alex did not know any better, he would almost think Willie was thinking the same.

“Uh, yes,” he told the woman. “One bed is alright.” It was not like they had another option anyways. It was this or the woods again.

I’m a big fan of Christmas cookies and decorating that comes with the holidays, but it’s also just nice to see family, ya know? We live pretty close to most of our family so we see them often, but it’s nice to dress up and do a whole thing. Also we love watching Elf 🤣

I mean, more Jonas/Demi would be amazing but idk if that’s in the cards. Also I’ve been meaning to make a playlist of songs I want them to cover, maybe I’ll do that..

And other than the obvious, I wish I had gotten to see a WOWP Christmas episode! I heard that there was an attempt that got cancelled, but that could have been fun.

⛰ Hardest fic to write?

Oh gosh, probably I Love Losing Track of Time Anytime We're Talking, cause it was a ship I'd never written before and I was trying to tailor it to the requests of someone else for Secret Santa. On top of that, it was only the second fic I ever posted, so I still had no clue how the tagging system worked and all that.

👀 What’s an idea you had for a fic that you never did anything with?

Gosh, so many. Speaking of my Secret Santa fic from last year, I have a whole longfic outlined that takes place in the same universe, detailing how the boys of Sunset Curve came to be at Camp Halfblood and got claimed and connected and all that. But... I think there's like one chapter of it written somewhere? Just never had the time or energy to do the thing.

🌾 A fic you really want to write but you haven’t (yet)?

Oh gosh, again, so many. I ended up plotting out half a JATP Teachers AU a month or so ago where all of the characters work at a high school or something and become a band to raise money for the arts program or something... and well... they really like playing together... so it becomes a thing.

😊 The fic that you’re the most proud of?

Of the posted ones, probably Maybe You Can't, But That's Why I'm Here. It was the first fic I ever posted, and I hold that it's one of the better ones still. It's just lovely and I'm a simp for soft hurt/comfort Willex so...

What is the JatP Feb Fan Fest?

As stated elsewhere the JatP Feb Fan Fest is to provide an opportunity for all fans to show their support for each other and participate in a sort of “Secret Santa’ inspired gift exchange.

Why February?

Why not? But in all seriousness, admin decided ridiculously late in the year they wanted to do a gift exchange and had friends point out that a gift exchange in Jan/Feb could be nice since those months tend to be gloomier (especially for the more Northern Hemisphere folks)

Will this be a recurring event?

Admin does not want to make promises they cannot keep; however it will be nice if this could turn into an annual or semi-annual event. We will have to see what life holds in store for all of us, and how successful this one is.

Will there be a Discord server?

As of right now there is no Discord server, if there is enough interest as well as volunteers to act as moderators this is subject to change.

Why are there no minimums set to the gifts?

In an effort to make it so anyone can participate and to account for varying life circumstances there will be a wide variety of gifts accepted.  As such it is difficult to gauge what good minimums would be. However, admin is open to feedback and if you have any suggestions, please submit them through the askbox!
