Look at him.
He doesn't even realize he's the villain of his own story.

The "Judas must you betray me with a kiss" line in the Broadway revival production of JCS hits especially hard because Judas has kissed him before in this version So The Kiss™ is Judas turning what is usually a sign of his love into an act of betrayal.
#I know people have probably analyzed it already but i just realized this- I am in pain and I simply must talk about it#jcs#jcs bway revival#jesus christ superstar#jesus x judas#judas x jesus

2, 6, 18, 13 ??? idk if i remembered those numbers right but fuck it LOL for the theatre asks
omg i’m so late on this sorry sdjhgks
2. What musical got you really into theatre?
once on this island! it was my middle school choir teacher’s fav show so she incorporated it into the curriculum and that’s how theatre kid elaine was born
6. Favourite off-broadway show:
not like u didn’t expect this from my great comet stanning ass but ghost quartet lmao. if we mean all non-broadway then honorable mention to hunchback
18. Make a broadway related confession.
i trash on alw 24/7 but have the entire soundtrack to jcs memorized and still go hard to memory, don’t cry for me argentina, wishing you were somehow here again, etc. 😬 also my fav rendition of jcs is the mega white 2012 bway revival (almost purely by virtue of josh young’s voice)
13. Favourite #ham4ham?
OAK SINGING OVER THE MOON AS MICKEY MOUSE
u can still send me stuff if u want lol

What did you think of the trouple dynamic in the bway revival? The revival is prob my least favourite version I've seen (I do still enjoy it tho, cause jcs), but I did quite like that dynamic + it has my fav Mary, and one of the best Herod's imo. Jesus sucks ass tho-
Also-
my #1 criticism fr NO BLOOD ?????????
okay. positives first. herod ATE THAT UP you're right.
however, i don't think i loved the characterization in general in this ???? not that anyone acted bad. except for jesus he just stood around a lot i didn't like him. but yknow mary and judas were both very good performers and i still didn't like them, just not for me i guess. not a big fan of the throuple dynamic purely because in What World do judas and mary get along be so for real their only interaction in the entire script is judas slut shaming her. it felt to me like they kind of forced her character into this too much and as a result she was very watered down ? also the entire production was so focused on the judas jesus mary triangle that the whole show felt off. the disciples technically were there but had zero presence or reason to be there because everything was going on between mary, judas and jesus and while the whole weird queer drama is just between them it felt like they weren't really a group of people. just the three of them, and then everyone else was just random people following. and while it doesn't really impact the plot that much it does kind of change the perspective of the show and idk i don't like it. there wasn't that aspect of the lot of them being a team anymore so that crowd being there just came off as jesus' whole thing being very preachy kingly worshippy in a weird way which i didn't like. ensemble is very important to me in every show and when it loses its personality it kind of icks me and while the apostles don't really contribute to the plot they're an active ensemble, they're not passive. just a little useless <3.
anyways sorry i trailed off, i didn't care for the love triangle. mostly for mary's sake. it felt like forcing her into a different trope to give her depth and personality and distinguish her from the rest rather than actually working with who she is while at the same time judas shared a lot of aspects that were originally part of jesus' and mary's dynamic and for me it kind of took away from her instead of elevating her.
also i'm still mad they took away could we start again please from peter BRING HIM BAACKKK
also the staging felt very awkward to me a lot of the time. idk. not a big fan of this one.
#asks#im growing weirdly fond of peter#again mostly for mary's character's sake but also because he's captivatingly cringe and useless during the whole show

i don’t hear ppl talk about judas’ costuming in the jcs 2012 bway revival enough (well no one really talks about this production at all but i’ve ranted about that already) and i really feel like it’s an important part of his character and his story??? i take it as his entire outfit being symbolic for how frightened and paranoid but also how traditional he is because his clothes are literally blue. blue is meant to be a color of protection and divinity in judaism. he wants to be close with god and he wants to keep himself and everyone safe more than anything to the point where he’s cloaking himself in things he knows will ensure that. i mean he literally wears a hamsa for protection, too??? it’s facing right side up so that’s definitely why he’s wearing it. the only question i have when it comes to that is, is he wearing it to protect him from himself or to protect himself from others? maybe both? honestly i could see that one going either way. but none of the other characters have any noticeable signs of keeping these kinds of things close to them. he’s the only one. and it just further strengthens how serious he is about his fear and how helpless he feels when he’s watching everyone get lost in the movement while he still has his concerns and his hesitance about it all. he’s still thinking of them and their safety. i just- i appreciate this costuming choice sm bc we can see so much of his character here. bluedas is blue for a reason i think (or maybe i just read to deeply into this and they just had a lot of blue fabric lying around but i like my idea better) i mean paul tazewell man. he knew what he was doing ( obv he’s brilliant. he did the costuming for hamilton, in the heights, and the wss film too) but yeah. absolutely obsessed with this. look at him. that’s my best friend who also has an anxiety disorder to the point it’s symbolized in his clothes.

#jesus christ superstar#jcs 2012 broadway revival#sorry still screaming about this show it will die down soon#listen i did costume design for a minute in school#i will always be obsessed with symbolism in costumes

yep okay
the 2012 broadway revival is definitely in my top favourites of the boots for jcs, but the 2014 swedish production was the first one i watched, and it is easily up in my top favourites too
but yes i agree the 2013 revival needs so much more attention
omg yes, that production is literally so good. i adore it so much, too. mary pushing jesus around in a shopping cart?? iconic. the vibes?? immaculate. THE KISS??? IT'S THE BEST KISS I'VE SEEN IN A JCS PRODUCTION. while jcs bway 2012 is my fav production, ola salo is my favorite jesus ever like i just love the way he plays him so much. also i absolutely love superstar in this production too (sm more than the one in the 2012 rev. like honestly i love them but i think superstar is a bit weak there and not as showstopping as it should be. it's more to do with staging than josh young tho) like the amount of energy they have is just sooo good. it's a top-tier show and i could watch it over and over and never get tired of it lmao
BUT THIS DOES NOT ERASE MY HYPERFIXATION ON 2012 BWAY BC IDK WHY IT JUST SCRATCHES MY BRAIN IN THE BEST WAY
