the new Watcher logo is full of easter eggs and I'm going to attempt to point out all of the images I saw, what they most likely reference, and how this means we'll get a Weird Wonderful s3!*
Tumblr media
logs from Too Many Spirits
the (red) phone from Ghost Files
berry for the Berry Boys one-off
and is that Shakespeare?? the haircut looks like Billy Shakes
(Weird Wonderful World reference count: 1)
Tumblr media
a plane, phone again, house, and passport??
hard to tell if the plane and house are general references or not. could be for an upcoming show. they do investigate houses on GF and there was the travel season of TMS, which could be why the passport
Tumblr media
- Ghost Files logo (hi Gilbert!) - cheez balls from the foundation of Watcher aww<3 - jar of peanut butter - Mystery Files logo
Tumblr media
then: windmill, jack-o-lantern, cloche, ostrich
the pumpkin has me stumped. maybe Spooky Small Talk? or love of spooky vibes in general and the cloche could be for Dish Granted, it could be for Steven's upcoming show. maybe all his food content in general. the windmill and ostrich are both from WWW - Solvang ep (WWW reference count: 3)
Tumblr media
globe with plane: that one season of TMS or unknown/upcoming show
cocktails: either TMS or Worth a Shot (but I lean towards TMS)
the (OG) Professor!
Tumblr media
meteor puppet from PH
roller blades from WWW Derby ep
walkie talkie from GF
(WWW reference count: 4)
Tumblr media
jellybeans (ngl I thought potatoes at first)
maglite from GF
skull (not too sure)
bottle of soda from WWW Pop Pals?
(WWW reference count: 5)
Tumblr media
just before the logo transitions out we get:
genie lamp!
Mystery Files projector
Overall that's five references to a show that's currently retired....hmmmm
*this is just my hope but I have been known to have the gift of Apollo at times
thank you Jared for the new logo! we love it!!

puppet history is an educational puppet show wherein a fuzzy blue puppet tells different stories throughout history whilst quizzing two guests and awarding them jelly-bean related points so one of them can win the episode after a fun musical number related to the topic at hand.
puppet history is also about:
a time travelling puppet called the professor who went to puppet university and may or may not be called connie mcnasty
a bunch of puppets who the professor accidentally gave souls to while travelling through time including two gay oars, a mummified goose and a very sad coin
a genie that has been chasing the puppet through time because of said soul debacle
a season-long plan in which the genie sets up a fake party for all the puppets to attend so he can kill them all in the same place
god who isnt really a main player but he shows up to sing sometimes and needs to find a place for all of the dead puppets to go
the devil who also isnt really a main player but he did audition to host season five
jellybeans that have some form of magical properties related to the professor and turned garrick bernard into a puppet twice which is more of a footnote than anything else
a longstanding feud between the professor and ryan bergara that begins with ryan never winning and ends with ryan making a deal with a demon called asmodeus to win which leads to a t-rex eating the professor
the professor dying as of a result of being eaten by a t-rex but not really because the t-rex lay an egg that the professor hatched out of, but bigger
an evil (?) hologram of the professor who tricks the dead puppets into sending him back to fix everything related to the death of the professor and the puppets which happens at the funeral for the professor
another season long plan wherein holo-professor plans to skin ryan and wear his skin
estranged producer shane madej who stayed out of it when he saw that holo-professor had ryan tied up and also happens to look quite a lot like the genie
hope that helps with any confusion (:

Proof that the Professor has been possessed:
His fur is a different colour. His eyes are a different colour. And yet, in the picture, he has his original colour, which means this is not just an updated design, we are supposed to notice the difference.
Also, his satchel. His satchel dropped somewhere else when he fell into the mouth of the dinosaur, and it also wasn’t mentioned in any of the articles Ryan went on. Only the hat and the glasses. So… why does he have his satchel back?
This one might be a reach in the dark, but the Professor mostly lives off of jellybeans and spiders. In fact, the spiders are his main source is protein, so would he actually eat steak? Then again, I guess he does (possibly) eat dolphin meat, so maybe not. And he completely dismissed Sara when she said it was bad for the environment, when I feel like the Professor would take it into consideration.
Also, his voice. Instances I found of his voice going all demonic (just in case there’s any correlation):
YOU LIKE MEAT, RYAN?
*demonic laugh after his ‘Boer-d’ joke*
THE LEARNING HAS BEGUN
You know that algorithm machine is running BETTER THAN EVER THIS SEASON
When he pops up after the first puppet show
WHAT DO YA GOT
What could the deal with the box possibly be? It’s some sort of energy source, obviously… and the Professor is very adamant on not talking about it, and, well… we know that when the Professor chooses not to elaborate on something (i.e. the genie), it can’t be good. He’s so angry when they bring it up, has he ever shouted like that before?
Also, he acts pretty much feral with Ryan. Like, growling at him and trying to bite him. I mean, I get it, I probably would too, but we’ve never seen the Professor be violent, ever. He’s also never had a problem with anyone touching him before, in fact, he encourages people to take a jellybean out of his satchel.
Why does he say it like that? “On account of having to TAKE HUMAN LIFE.” Like, it’s not demonic, but Professor… just chill, please. What the fuck is wrong with you, my man?
His demonic laugh after making that pun. Like, come on, man, what the fuck is wrong with you, sir? And when the question comes up, and he goes “THE LEARNING HAS BEGUN! Ready your quills, my beauties!” WHAT THE FUCK MY (NOT SO) GOOD SIR
What was with the weird, creepy giggle? Professor doesn’t laugh like that… “Well, I’m alive! It feels good!” Sounds exactly like the kinda thing that someone who isn’t alive would say.
“Oh, we got my b-boys out there. I can’t remember what this bit is.” THATS BECAUSE THERE ISNT ONE. THERE IS NO B BOY BIT. HE JUST SAYS B BOYS.
Ryan: “I’m in hell.” A buzzer. The blank screen. Something sus is happening.
The most obvious piece of evidence: the glitch when he says “I guess we don’t have to,” when Ryan doesn’t wanna talk. Possibly something to do with the energy box?
The algorithm machine is “RUNNING BETTER THAN EVER THIS SEASON.” And it’s the only episode where Ryan has won, which means it has most likely been tinkered with to favour Ryan rather than the guest.
What is with the obsession with flesh? “Supple… life-defining… flesh.” Professor… you don’t eat flesh. You eat jellybeans, spiders, and possibly dolphin meat, but he’s getting a little weird here with his obsession for meat/flesh. And again, when talking about meat alternatives. The way he says “fleshier” is just… just weird.
Avoiding the question of “are you a ghost?” with “What kind of question is that? Come on.”
Okay, again, I’m not too sure about this one, but right before the first puppet show, when the curtain’s down, you can hear “where’s his fucking people?” Not “my” people, but “his” people, meaning that it’s someone else referring to the Professor. This is most likely just Shane honestly, having gotten used to calling them the Professor’s puppets, but I thought it was worth noting down.
After asking about why hippo meat didn’t take off, the noise he makes almost sounds like he’s deflating or powering down, so to speak. And he makes the same sound when he comes back up, so I think it’s definitely something to do with the box. I just don’t know what yet.
When he brings the guy up (Captain Claude), and he says: “But a word of warning. Not everything on this stage is as it seems,” combined with the fact that this is a guy who, a) faked his own death and b) pretended to be someone else. It’s obvious he’s talking about “the Professor”. But then again, it’s the Professor doing the voices, so does that make sense? Probably not, but it’s some form of evidence, so I’m sticking with it.
When going over the kinda summary thing, there’s an image of the Professor about to eat something. They lift up the lid and the flag says “100% Grade A Puppet Meat”, and he looks into the camera. This just adds more depth to his whole weird obsession with flesh.
It’s very strange how there’s just suddenly no trophies (especially when the Devil says in the last episode that the Professor buys those things in bull, suggesting he has a lot of them backstage), but instead a moisturiser. A very random object. The Professor is very adamant on him using it, and linking back to my earlier theory of the algorithm being rigged to let Ryan win, I think there’s a reason for it.
This one isn’t linked to any evidence for possessed!Professor at all, but I just noticed that the logo for ScienceSimp is one of the Bye Bye Brothers.
One of the tabs that Ryan has open is “Puppet Necromancy” and “Time Travel Methods” (as well as something about Nighttime Dan — again, unrelated, but I love that little detail). I think perhaps we could get an episode about the dinosaurs, based on the fact that there’s an article on it. There’s also an article about hologram technology — something to do with the Professor? Maybe he’s not possessed, but just a real weird hologram (like in the Holiday Spectacular)? I am genuinely very interested in this little insight to the going-ons in the WCU (like a Joker being elected Pope).
The genie lamp is surrounded by jellybeans. I don’t know what the implications of that are, but… it’s weird. “This breathtaking lamp will make a stunning addition to any home, no matter how drab. This piece was among many rare antiquities recently auctioned off at a local estate sale seemingly managed by the devil and a three-headed demon.” This means that the Devil, Asmodeus, or the Genie can’t possibly be possessing the Professor. But, why are the selling the lamp? With the genie presumably inside? It’s also worth noting that it says Ryan placed a $15 bid on it, while this “Connie M.” bids $5,500 on it — it seems like this Connie really wants that lamp, and she’s been at it for a while “oh, fucking Connie, again).
You can see that one of the professors (the one that moves) is different from the others, clearly standing out. But his colour seems to match the other toys (which are the original colour of the Professor).
That’s pretty much all I could pick out. I have never analysed anything so deeply before, and I can’t wait to do this every week. But yeah, I think there’s definitely something going on with the Professor, but I don’t know if it’s possession, since the Devil and Asmodeus sold the lamp. The hologram theory kinda makes sense, but I’m gonna wait until we have more info to develop that one any further.

So, with the build of Genie talk at the end of the last ep (S5E5), I've been thinking about the whole scenario of wishes
Genies typically grant 3 wishes in folklore. This also works with the theme of 3's we have running
Asmodeus has 3 heads
Infinitiger has 3 eyes
3 different versions of The Professor (original, Holo, Dino)
Professor's dino-family of 3
God, Death, and the Devil being afterlife representatives (though this could be 4 if you count Asmodeus)
The Substitute/Holo-Professor plans to wish for:
A soul,
All food to be turned into jellybeans, and
All living things to be turned into puppets
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[The Bloody Life of England's Fastest Surgeon (S5E5)]
So we can reasonably assume that this Genie is a 3-wish granter
So, if we think back to the REAL Professor, it seems there's only been 2 wishes made:
For something to be made into a time machine, allowing him to time travel, and
To be zapped into the Cretaceous Period (against his will via Asmodeus)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[1-2: The Grisly Journey of the Donner Party (S2E8)]
[3: The Great Molasses Flood (S3E6)]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[The Demonic Possessions of Loudon (S4E6)]
I have to wonder what his third and final wish will be if that's the case
HOWEVER!
The Professor (by means of Asmodeus) was also shown to RESCIND his previous wishes of time travel and meeting Whoopi Goldberg (removing 2 wishes) before wishing himself to the Cretaceous (and thus using 1 wish)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So he may still have 2 wishes yet! We'll just have to wait and see what he uses them on...
Update: not in Season 5! However, we never saw the Substitute's body...

The Professor propaganda:
"Literally just a little blue guy"
"He teaches Ryan Boogaria and special guest each episode about history and hands out jelly beans! He also has a lot of lore. He made a deal with genie to get time traveling powers. He also ended up bringing a bunch of objects from the past to life/into puppets and had them sing songs on his show. At one point he was sent back to the time of the dinosaurs and he was eaten by a dinosaur and then rebirthed in an egg. Then he was raised by these two other dinosaurs. The three almost died due to the meteor that killed the dinosaurs but they were brought back to future!"
"He nasty :)"
"he can travel through time and uses this skill to host a history game show. he made a deal with a genie. he died and came back to life when he was hatched from a dinosaur egg and then brought his dino parents back to present day with him. there was an evil hologram version of him for a while. he’s the perfect man"
"He's just a silly little guy"
"He is The Puppet. I love him. Also, spoilers for puppet history, he someone creates puppets wherever he goes time traveling (a power he got as part of some kind of twisted deal with a genie), and those puppets sing about the horrible shit they did and lived through. Also he just wants to teach you about history stuff and dunk on Ryan. What’s not to love"
"He’s your beloved host and guide to history!! He dearly loves his dinosaur parents!!!! He has jellybeans in his little bag and there’s one just for you!! A special little treat!! Don’t ask where he got them from"
"Funny little blue puppet, who time travels and teaches people about history and also got fed to a t-rex at some point because a genie and a demon worked together to make him wish himself into the Cretaceous period."
"such a silly little guy!! he just wants to teach you about history, thats all :)))"
"He teaches history with singing puppets and definitely is not involved with a genie."
"He’s just a little guy. Even when he’s reborn into a bigger body, he’s still just a little guy. Also web-show that actually makes learning about weird historical events fun my beloved."
"Makes history interesting through the magic of puppet theatre. May have been pursued through time by an angry genie."

while i do believe the professor doesnt want to be touched becase he's a hologram, i also think that the professor has a little bit of trauma, i mean, last time he trusted someone to touch him and gifted his jellybeans he was Literally Murdered by his close friend ryan bergara, who made a deal with the Actual Devil, a Literal demon, and That God Damn Genie AKA his Worst Enemy. All just for a trophy.. so even if he isnt a hologram / ghost aperation, its really sad :((

I feel as though the reason why the Genie was willing to allow Ryan to wish back the professor might have to do with the fact that his wish is the lesser of two evils.
Ryan’s wish is just for the professor to return to the present, pretty straightforward with little to no repercussions for time itself, seeing as the other objects the professor had turned into puppets were sent to purgatory. Meaning that the professor coming back really wouldn’t bother the genie because it was the professor fucking up time by turning random important objects in history into puppets that pissed him off so much.
Meanwhile the substitute’s wishes consist of turning EVERYONE into puppets and making all the food in the world jellybeans. Obviously, this is gonna affect the genie big time because it’s gonna fuck up our world.
He might just also not want an even more manic and insane puppet messing up the world. So I’m guessing that’s why he’s more willing to grant Ryan’s wish for the professor’s return to the present.

OKAY BUT CAN I TALK TO YOU GUYS ABOUT CONNIE M I’VE BEEN DYING TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT CONNIE M ALL DAY
So in the post-credits teaser, Ryan is trying to buy another lamp (our genie’s lamp? it is surrounded by jellybeans) to get a genie, probably to wish the Professor (the REAL Professor) back. And when he was outbid, Ryan went ‘ugh, fucking Connie’ - because this keeps happening. Connie M keeps outbidding Ryan; either for this lamp in particular or any and all genie lamps on bidbitch.
You know how last season the poster gave us the ending with the ‘he’s history’ tagline, but we just didn’t know it?
This is our endgame hiding in plain sight. Connie M - whoever they are - is our last episode subject for the season. And they really, really want a genie.
Is someone else trying to get the Professor back?

notes and theories on puppet history:
-the Professor is a hologram confirmed (i mean the box and the glitching was a big giveaway but he straight up called himself a hologram- "holla at your puppet!" etc)
-hologram!Professor cares a lot about Ryan's body, i suspect whoever is controlling the hologram wants to possess him, seeing as he was shown to be somehow ghostly in the first ep (apply the lotion liberally, take care of your body, maybe hit the gym etc)
-the real Professor still has his magic jellybean pouch, seeing as he turned those dinos into puppets on accident. you can kinda see it when he's in the eggshell. however he lost all his jellybeans in the season finale, so how does his pouch still have puppet power? is there some sort of alternate fuel source other than jellybeans?
-somebody else bought the genie's lamp. i know this is a plot point from the first ep but it feels important to me. who is Connie M?? ally? enemy?
-the Professor is now toddler-sized, based on the leaves around him. that's huge. why? what does it mean?
-in the first episode we see a news article about the Professor's hat and glasses being fossilized. but he clearly has them on when he emerges from the egg. so, how did those get there? is that something that has yet to happen from our perspective?
I'm very curious as to why hologram!Professor is going to such lengths to possess Ryan. what's so special about him?
anyway this season rocks prehistorically and I'm really enjoying it!!!! can't wait for more

Ok, but have Puppet History fans floated the idea that The Professor is a Time Lord?
Like, The Doctor, The Master, The Professor
Plus the timetraveling?
His satchel is his TARDIS and the jellybeans he eats are actually special alien pills that make him look like a little blue puppet, a la Garrett turning into a puppet after he ate them both times, the genie is an alien enemy chasing him down or maybe even another Time Lord trying to stop his messing with history, not to mention he got eaten by a dinosaur and regenerated into a different larger form????
The evidence is all there

top 5 professor moments :)
Ohhhh I like this one! So obviously these are gonna be my faves and all great to me but 5 is lowest 1 is highest. Let's go!!!!
5. The little "huh?" noise he makes. Oh my god. AAAAAA!! Because he always cocks his head to the side like a curious dog when he does it!! This is MULTIPLE moments because I am COMPELLED to enjoy it and so it can't not make the list.
4. His run-in with the Genie in the Molasses Flood episode. It was so well executed and painted Professor in a whole new light, like, dang?? That little sucker can MOVE when he needs to! Untying himself and evading a gigantic Genie that compared to the human arms holding professor looks 12 feet tall and THEN scrambling to his satchel and getting away? Little escape artist!
3. "Awwww they look like little snowmen! Oh my gosh!" About the number 88 with smiley faces in the eights. He is so baby. Help me. Help. Help help.
2. His guitar playing in the Oud song!!!!!!1!1!11! LOOK AT HIM GO! L O O K A T H I M! The way he moves id very pleasant to me, idk why. He looks alive. And that is important to me. He looks like a living creature in the scene and I just. Man.
1. Him cursing out the Genie. Do I even NEED to explain this one? Girlboss behavior.
Honorable mentions: "Well you never took the initiative, Ryan!", The adorable hug between him and Ryan (mostly because his voice and mannerisms are adorable and I wish it were me hugging him), Commentating in the two oars boning, and him trying to bite(?) Ryan's hand that one time while Ry was getting jellybeans out of the satchel.
This is a very good question and thank you so so much for the ask!! <3
