🔥 super curious to know what would be your unpopular opinion about Miss Saigon 🔥

So @thequeenosnes and I discussed this through our IMs back in April 2017 I think (omg where did the time go??) and the shorthand version of that is: Miss Saigon is a show that still makes me deeply uncomfortable for many reasons. While one could argue the explicitness in the first scene, as well as others, is meant to be difficult to watch, it felt more like blatant exploitation and objectification of Vietnamese women and that is a persistent problem throughout this show. However, the biggest problem of MS to me is how Kim’s story is one of victimhood without a means. The whole show is about her exploitation and lack of agency and ends with her suicide. She feels like a footnote in her own story. Watching the boot of this show made me feel crummy because even at the end, there wasn’t any reprieve of Kim or any of the other Vietnamese women in the show and they felt way too much like props for the white men.

Also, Chris did not deserve her or Ellen ever lol.

hello! i've just read your "not-quite AU" about Kali and i'm so in love with it! and i'm also so glad to find more people that love Kali just like i do, because she's such an awesome and complex character but was treated so unfairly in so many ways by so many people ): so i'm here to say that i really loved your writing and to ask if there's more about Kali that i could cry about haha! <3

Omg ah thank you so much!!! She is soooo complex and I really love characters that fall into that gray area! Whole essays could be written about her and yet??? So I figure until then I’ll make some graphics with her! I sadly only have that one mini fic with her and then a moodboard I made a bit ago!

I don’t have any fics going but ah some questions and headcanons??

First the fact that when she escaped she did find a family but they couldn’t help her?? She feels so symbolic of the pitfalls of foster care families and the way systematic oppression can effect things (which opens an entire world of analysis for her character)

I absolutely need entire backstories for her finding her new found home with her friends and who they are all. I know they’re not perfect but hello . I am a sucker for vigilantes walking the line!!

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE CONNECTION WITH TERRY. Like Kali believes that Terry sent El to her. Idk it just opens up so much potential (like okay Terry using the void is definitely it’s own thing), but also how Kali approaches life. There’s definitely some spirituality in her and imagining her waiting on that roof and praying for a sign. Anything that will tell her that what she’s fighting for is right. And when El shows up, it suddenly all clicks that this little girl that she grew up with is alive and there with her. 

This girl is a survivor and is working through some serious shit!! She’s what El could have been if their stories had gone differently. While El was much more skittish in the first season, she could have easily been in a similar situation. So it makes you think, who is Kali away from all of this? Who is she if she’s discovered by a child on a bike who helps remind her that her powers are beautiful? Revenge and justice through means like Kali and her friends may work in a sense but it robs you of so much. Kali is what? Sixteen maybe? They’re implied to be close in age but she reads as so much more mature because of the life that’s she forced herself to live and it’s taken so much of her

I don’t think I know enough cities to answer this, nor do I know enough about myself. But I think it’d be one of those commuter towns? Like where people travel for like an hour or two to another city to work but live in a tiny town. I was researching a town like this in Hokkaido called Otaru and it looked cute. I think I would like to go.

WAVES: is there one music genre you can’t listen to?

Metal? I think that’s what it’s called? I’m sorry, I can not stand songs that scream at me most of the time. I’m like soft fairy material. The most cultist I get is catholic chanting.

WRITING: do you write letters? if not, would you like to be?

I don’t, I never really know what to say. I guess it would be nice but I honestly don’t have the peace of mind for that.

I can’t believe this was the first thing that came to my head but Seokjin? He’s just a really, really cute person. He and Jimin make me particularly happy because they’re really cute. But Seokjin is a different brand of happy because I’m very taken with him. He’s so pretty and talented and kind and wise!

Night owl 100%. There’s nothing I hate more than mornings. 

2. What is something embarrassing that happened to you recently?

My best friend and I were at the drive through In-N-Out Burger and they forgot to give us ketchup. So we had to go inside to get some. We went up to the register and, when they asked what we wanted, all we asked for was ketchup. They probably thought we were crazy for just “ordering” ketchup haha :P

3. If you could see any band/artist perform anywhere in the world, who would you see and where?

Well one of my best friends and I have always wanted to see Taylor Swift but we could never get tickets. And it would be nice if we didn’t have to travel far to see her. So I’d say Taylor Swift somewhere really close by haha!

4. Who was your first celebrity crush? Current celebrity crush?

First: I remember having a crush on that one kid from the Disney Channel movie “Get a Clue.” Does anyone remember that movie haha? I also had a crush on Gordo from Lizzie McGuire :P

I actually really like all seasons because I start to get excited for the next one coming up every time. But I do really like the sun so I’m going to go with summer :)

I actually have this weird obsession with water so it’s pretty much the only thing I ever drink. I got through several bottles a day.

Eleven is my #1 favorite but Mike Wheeler is a very close second.

Not in the shower because people might hear how awful I am haha. Definitely in the car when it’s just me though!
