I need another music ask which reminds me I haven’t answered the last couple 😬 but as we’re deep in our Jason Isbell obsession:
Top 5 lyrics- can be any album?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I couldn’t pick just 1 gif so good luck picking just 5 lyrics 🤷🏼‍♀️
I said this was going to take a long time, but in a million years I couldn't ever pick 5 top lyrics. Every time I listen to a song I hear it completely differently. I also could've chosen all lyrics from one song on Weathervanes let alone all of his music. But here we are 5 lyrics that struck me in this moment.
"I ain't use to this seeing everybody's hand. I was raised to be a strong and silent southern man" Middle of the Morning- Weathervanes This hits me so freakin' hard every time. Because I can't help but think where we could be as a country if we didn't raise kids (especially boys) to be strong and silent.
"Can't say I love her, but she's someone to talk to" Volunteer - Weathervanes I'm so taken by this, because I know he's talking about a relationship but this is so human.
"Maybe we'll get 40 years together but one day I'll be gone and one day you'll be gone" If We Were Vampires - The Nashville Sound It makes me sad, but reminds you to cherish every moment.
(This one is kinda long)
"No one gives a damn about the things I give a damn about. The liberties that we can't do without seem to disappear like ghosts in the air. When we don't even care it truly vanishes away" Alabama Pines - Here We Rest Alabama Pines is one of my favorites, especially this one live version that's just perfect. And I love this closing verse, it shows why you should be passionate and why you should care.
"There's a man who walks beside me. He is who I used to be" Again, just so poignant it reminds you of growth but also of who you always are.

I love Amanda's style 😍

So while endlessly on TikTok I found people who were ranking their favorite songs (which we've done a hundred times). So I started thinking how can I make this different?
Rank the following (completely random) Billy Joel Essentials.
Big Shot  Scenes from an Italian Restaurant Allentown A Matter of Trust  Say Goodbye to Hollywood She’s Got a Way  Captain Jack  The Longest Time
Tumblr media
I truly have no idea what's happening in this GIF
Oh this is fun! And that gif 😂😂💀
1. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
2. Allentown
3. Say Goodbye to Hollywood
4. A Matter of Trust
5. The Longest Time
6. Captain Jack
7. She’s Got a Way
8. Big Shot
And as you should now by now, this is good for this moment in time only. 😂
@lexondeck your turn ♥️

Retellings Ranked: Classic Literature
We all had to read some classic literature in school (or at least we were supposed to), some good, some bad, some that we forgot as soon as we took the test. There’s lots of literary retellings out there, and as always I have some thoughts on a few. (Also, sorry there’s no Pride and Prejudice retellings on here I just don’t like Pride and Prejudice that much.)
(Please don’t come after me for rating your favorite retelling badly, reading is subjective, etc. Post periodically updated.)
A Good Time!
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White- We read Frankenstein junior year of high school and it was difficult but very enjoyable. And I LOVE a good feminist retelling. Elizabeth is such a sidelined character in the original, seeing her perspective was great! Also just a lot of interesting dynamics and issues in conversation.
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman- This middle-grade retelling of The Jungle Book is spookier and less racist than the original, but just as much fun. Neil Gaiman delivers again with a creepy, delightfully morbid, family-friendly tale.
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray- Lord of the Flies but with teenage beauty pageant contestants. Read this a while ago, so may not hold up quite as well as I remember, but there’s at least some diverse representation, and a lot of girls supporting girls which is always excellent.
I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick- This one brings Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca into the modern age. Frick works in a lot of modern elements, and I really liked the way she framed and handled the mystery. Not quite as gothic-spooky as the original, but definitely a fresh and fascinating new take!
Pros/Cons
My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodie Meadows, and Brodi Ashton- Jane Eyre, but with a super casual voice. Gothic atmosphere, ghosts. Struggles with some success to deal with some of the weirder aspects of Jane Eyre. You have to lean into the vibes, but if you can do that, there’s a lot to enjoy.
The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant- Full disclosure, I’ve never actually read Les Mis, but it’s one of my grandmother’s favorite musicals so I’ve seen it onstage like 3 times and the movie. Extremely neat world building. Way too many love interests. Very definite character portrayals that I didn’t always agree with, but followed.
The Madman’s Daughter trilogy by Megan Shepherd- These books use the same characters to retell The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Frankenstein, which is a lot, but mostly works? I did like books 1 and 2 more than 3, unfortunately, but some of the crossover is really neat. There is at least one love triangle though :(
His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler- A short story collection with 13 tales based on Edgar Allen Poe works. As always with short story collections, there were some I liked much more than others, but there was a lot of rep from marginalized groups, and some clever twists.
I Don’t Remember Anything, But I Did Rate It 3/5 Stars
Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne- Jane Eyre in space. I’m a big fan of Jane Eyre, wrote my first-ever research paper on it. This retelling did not make much of an impression on me, I guess.
...Pass
Anna K by Jenny Lee- Okay I feel very bad putting this one in this category because I...have not read Anna Karenina. Probably, I would have liked this more if I had. But I did not vibe with the plot. Love to see diversity, but this one was not for me.
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys- I feel like this novel did important work by opening up Bertha Mason’s story in the 1960s. However, I did not actually like it. Also, kind of racist, which, you know, the 60s, but not great.

i  .  prosopography  .
nina’s  story  begins  during  the  chance  meeting  of  her  parents  ,  ara  kim  and  hyun-woo  min  ,  when  they  were  in  their  early  twenties  .  most  would  assume  that  they  weren’t  compatible  for  one  another  as  ara  was  the  spoiled  child  of  the  kim  family  ,  who  were  known  around  south  korea  for  owning  various  luxury  buildings  and  apartment  complexes  in  the  gangnam  area  .  hyun-woo  on  the  other  hand  was  your  regular  college  student  who  worked  a  job  he  hated  to  pay  his  tuition  ,  but  he  had  big  dreams  as  he  wanted  to  someday  own  his  own  architecture  firm  .  when  the  mindless  ara  wrecked  her  fancy  car  into  hyun-woo’s  beat  up  toyota  ,  it  was  love  at  first  sight  .
it  was  a  whirlwind  relationship  as  the  couple  was  engaged  within  six  months  of  their  meeting  ,  and  married  within  eight  .  with  their  access  to  unlimited  funds  ,  the  couple  had  a  lavish  wedding  ,  and  hyun-woo  no  longer  had  to  worry  about  his  tuition  payments  .  now  focused  on  his  degree  without  having  to  worry  about  money  ,  he  found  himself  on  the  development  team  at  his  new  family’s  company  shortly  thereafter  his  graduation  .
with  hyun-woo  having  his  dream  job  and  ara  having  her  dream  husband  ,  the  couple  was  thriving  .  they  lived  in  a  beautiful  apartment  that  overlooked  gangnam  ,  and  they  had  gone  on  vacation  to  bali  when  ara  revealed  that  she  was  pregnant  .  the  couple  was  overjoyed  to  be  welcoming  their  baby  into  the  world  ,  and  to  say  that  they  were  obsessed  with  her  from  the  moment  they  saw  her  in  the  first  ultrasound  and  she  was  the  size  of  a  lime  .  the  couple  welcomed  their  little  baby  nine  months  later  ,  and  they  loved  every  inch  of  her  the  moment  she  was  placed  on  ara’s  chest  .
growing  up  ,  nina  enjoyed  the  spoils  that  her  family  provided  for  her  .  she  went  on  amazing  trips  ,  wore  the  best  clothes  ,  and  even  got  pushed  around  in  a  six  hundred  dollar  stroller  .  despite  that  ,  though  ,  nina  was  a  very  precocious  child  ,  picking  up  on  her   developments  quickly  .  as  she  grew  older  ,  nina’s  parents  saw  that  their  daughter  was  interested  in  a  variety  of  things  ,  so  when  she  was  five  ,  she  began  taking  piano  lessons  ,  and  it  was  evident  that  she  had  a  natural  gift  .
as  the  years  passed  ,  nina  continuously  excelled  in  her  academics  and  the  extracurriculars  that  she  tried  out  for  .  as  she  attended  the  best  schools  in  seoul  ,  nina  was  the  one  who  answered  questions  first  ,  she  was  the  first  to  sign  up  ,  and  the  first  to  complete  tests  .  nina  was  the  one  who  constantly  won  awards  from  her  school  ,  and  she  was  definitely  the  one  who  never  allowed  for  someone  else  to  take  her  place  .
it  was  something  of  a  shock  to  her  parents  that  she  wanted  to  attend  college  in  the  states  ,  but  her  parents  were  not  the  ones  to  tell  her  no  .  so  ,  nina  went  on  to  be  accepted  into  holloway  ,  and  she  majors  in  business  economics  with  a  political  science  minor  !  i’d  say  that  she’s  involved  in  a  lot  of  student  organizations  like  student  government  ,  and  she’s  a  member  of  the  tennis  team  !  as  nuts  as  it  sounds  ,  she’s  on  the  tennis  team  for  the  cute  outfits  ,  but  she  loves  the  sport  as  well  .
ii  .  temperament  .
alexa  ,  play  ‘  i  don’t  care  ’  by  ariana  grande  !  she  doesn’t  care  about  what  other  people  have  to  say  or  how  people  feel  about  her  ,  especially  considering  how  shameless  she  can  be  in  most  of  her  actions  .  she’s  ridiculously  blunt  ,  but  really  hates  when  people  are  bitchy  for  no  reason  ?  i  don’t  know  ,  a  paradox  considering  that  she  can  be  bitchy  for  no  reason  too  FKNDSFUDS  .  responds  heavily  to  the  energy  that  she’s  given  .  fully  believes  that  the  sun  and  moon  determines  her  mood  for  the  day  .
sUpErIoRiTy CoMpLeX  ?  gOd  CoMpLeX  ?  sounds  about  right  .  she  doesn’t  outright  brag  about  herself  all  the  time  ,  but  she’s  definitely  the  type  to  bring  it  up  when  it  applies  to  the  conversation  .  nina  is  the  mean  friend  that  everyone  needs  ,  and  has  a  weird  dislike  for  people  who  are  too  nice  .
nina  isn’t  a  stone  cold  bitch  ,  though  .  she  likes  having  fun  ,  she  likes  to  laugh  ,  and  she  especially  likes  to  spend  time  with  her  friends  .  she’s  capable  of  empathy  and  compassion  ,  yes  .  will  she  show  that  all  the  time  ?  of  course  not  !  considering  that  she’s  an  only  child  ,  nina  is  used  to  having  all  eyes  on  her  ,  so  she  has  no  shame  in  her  fame  when  she  comes  back  to  farrow  house  wearing  last  night’s  dress  and  carrying  her  heels  .
iii  .  headcanons  .
she  already  knows  that  graduate  school  is  in  her  future  ,  but  she  hasn’t  decided  on  where  she  wants  to  go  yet  .
nina  resides  in  farrow  house  ,  and  she’s  probably  the  worst  kind  of  roommate  there  is  considering  how  type  a  she  can  be  at  times  .  her  room  (  or  side  of  the  room  i’m  not  sure  of  the  setup  )  is  relatively  organized  at  all  times  .  she’s  a  lover  of  white  ,  but  white  with  color  ,  so  she  keeps  the  tones  light  with  soft  shades  of  pink  scattered  throughout  !  she  likes  a  gold  accent  ,  and  everything  has  its  own  place  .
doesn’t  like  to  leave  her  bedroom  without  making  her  bed  or  picking  things  up  .  at  night  she  may  just  slip  out  of  her  clothes  and  go  to  bed  ,  but  she’s  definitely  going  to  pick  it  up  that  next  morning  ,  even  her  walk  of  shame  clothes  KNJFDISF  .
despite  her  behavior  at  times  ,  nina  is  someone  who  studies  hard  because  she  doesn’t  like  anything  less  than  an  A  .  although  i  will  say  that  she  obsesses  over  her  grades  ,  but  she  knows  that  if  she  slacks  then  she’ll  get  slacker  grades  .
this  is  pointless  KFNDJSF  but  i  draw  a  lot  of  her  style  inspo  from  itsyuyan  on  instagram  ,  but  she  also  loves  to  dress  in  a  quality  th*t  dress  when  she  had  the  chance  to  NFJDBSFDS  .  i  love  jennie’s  long  hair  ,  so  nina’s  own  is  canon  to  that  ,  and  she  definitely  had  the  iconic  e-girl  streaks  .
iv  .  wanted  connections  .
i  would  love  to  have  literally  anything  that  ya’ll  throw  at  me  !  some  basics  that  i’d  like  to  write  out  are  best  friends  ,  academic  rivals  ,  friends  with  benefits  ,  confidant(s)  ,  frenemies  ,  good  /  bad  influence  ,  one  night  stand(s)  ,  flirtationship  ,  enemies  with  benefits  ,  and  a  current  or  ex  fling  !
i  love  a  good  women  loving  women  scenario  ,  so  i’d  like  to  have  an  ex  girlfriend  for  her  !  i  see  them  as  being  on  good  terms  and  they  simply  drifted  apart  ,  but  they’re  really  close  !  sometimes  they  can  get  a  little  touchy  feely  with  one  another  so  hello  👀  .
i  would  die  for  literally  any  form  of  angst  that  you  could  possibly  think  of  ? angsty  friends  ,  angsty  exes  ,  angsty  anything  .  i  love  to  put  myself  through  misery  so  honestly  …  bury  me  six  feet  under  and  i  will  literally  thank  you  .
all  aboard  the  heartbreak  train  ! this  ties  back  into  my  love  for  angst  ,  but  some  form  of  an  ex  or  maybe  even  someone  who  she  go  close  to  but  it  didn’t  really  work  out  ?
maybe  even  a  will  they  won’t  they ? but  essentially  ,  clearly  these  two  have  feelings  but  for  some  reason  things  didn’t  work  out  for  them  and  now  they’re  probably  in  a  limbo  or  trying  to  determine  where  they’re  headed  but  they  absolutely  refuse  to  talk  about  it ! all  of  their  friends  notice  but  they  blow  them  off  and  ok  let  me  relax  and  actually  allow  us  to  plot  ,  but  just  some  potential  ideas  !
i  will  have  a  desired  relations  tag  that  i’ll  be  updating  as  frequently  as  i  can  ,  but  if  none  of  these  work  for  you  or  if  you  have  something  you  see  araminta  filling  ,  then  please  let  me  know  ! we  can  totally  brainstorm  or  if  you  want  ,  then  we  can  work  on  chemistry !

to know:
UPDATE: her full bio is here. gives more important insight into the relationship she has/had with her mother.
triggers: neglect, brief mention of statutory rape
i got very ‘poetic’ in the ‘a little further’ portion of the app and described her as a trophy in my first bullet point… so there you have it! you see, no matter what she did, she was always only praised for her appearance. just a trophy!!
she was born (in taunwick) to a very successful politician and her trophy husband. therefore, she spent much of her time alone as her mother was busy campaigning or throwing galas while her father, her mother’s trophy husband, went along for the ride.
there were very few times they spent any ‘quality time’ together – picture what i think was the first scene (one of!) in mommie dearest where joan crawford is turning her daughter’s birthday into a photo op. that was pretty much their definition of quality family time. it could be successfully argued that april’s mother figures all came in the form of nannies.
it could also be successfully argued that, unlike lionel, april is part of the daddy issues™ club. as will be very evident afhdliuwdsjn
probably also part of the mommy issues™ club aflhskd
mother riggs probs would go off about wire hangers but... u kno... not to the mommie dearest point...
what should be taken away rn is that she was literally raised to be shallow fhlakjds
she began an entitlement act rather young - there were only two people who saw through it, one of which will be sent in as a wc and the other… being harley!! bc gotta get april connected to the murders somehow!! gotta give her a reason to stay in taunwick too but!! that’s a problem for a future bullet.
there are those annoying kids who refuse to share their toys and all. and they usually grow out of it. but april… did not. elementary? demon child. junior high? demon preteen. high-school? demon teenager.
now!! on the topic of high-school!! if her age is any indication, she is not part of the class of 2000 - if i have my math right (possibly don’t, i once legit studied for a math exam and wound up still only getting a 34), she was part of the class of 2003. that being said, one year of hers did overlap with everyone else’s - she knew chastity as an acquaintance at best, although she still recognized harley as a friend!! good for her!!
that being said, chastity’s murder….. didn’t have much of an effect on her…. ya it’s v tragic….. but it’s been a week guys :\
her alibi: she was in the woods with someone…….. when pressured to say with who bc animals and trees can’t confirm that…… she was ashamed to say it was someone on the lacrosse team. she usually aimed higher :\
anyway, they all graduated and it was HER TIME TO SHINE!! it was HER TIME to USURP THE THRONE and become THAT BITCH of the school!! probably had .3 real friends, what with the exception of the one wc i plan to send in!! that... was inspired by “jenny” by studio killers… we can’t wait to send it.
did everything she perceived as the it girl stuff, what from joining those cool teams to being crowned her own prom queen to……………. sleeping with teachers. 1) alexa play “daddy issues” by the neighbourhood, 2) fire them.
fun fact tho!! she got into a hella good school. as in the ivy that is columbia. by what was….. partially her own merit…… partially her mother giving a very generous donation. have to make the family look PERFECT!!
she received an art history degree on what was….. partially her own merit…… partially sleeping with professors (see two bullets above.)but... graduation came… and what do you do with an art history degree from an ivy…
you marry rich!!!!!!!
in the perfect parallel that she did not even recognize as a parallel because she’s big dumb, she found a marginally older politician (....it’s gonna be a wc so it’s gonna depend on the player but it’s gonna be 50+ hfdlsjak wld make it older but there j aren’t enough resources!!) and was like *martha (...virginia woolf?) vc* “yes, yes. [he] will do.” *end vc*
in spite of having become marginally more introspective than she was in high-school… she still doesn’t recognize her daddy issues :\
they got married. in spite of it being beautiful and expensive and gaudy, she really didn’t feel anything?? was lowkey GLAD her parents weren’t there (and not in the angsty ‘they never show up to anything anyway :\’ way, in the ‘this is literally wasting everyone’s time’ way). their marriage started and continued as a very unfulfilling one. he, in perfect politician style, began having affairs exactly as she, in perfect april style, began having affairs. while they never directly spoke of them, they knew the other was involved with other people.
why april didn’t divorce him is an excellent question. is it out of a certain selflessness, not wanting to do any damage to his career?? is it out of selfishness, not wanting to lose that sugar daddy?? a little bit of both. probably more the latter tho!!
anyway!! her father finally divorced her mother and she was like “i’m…. gonna say i’m gonna go be a good daughter…. go comfort my mother in this trying time….. but jk i j wanna get away from my husband lmao”
again, barely knows her mother. learned various different languages so she could have fair conversations with the foreign nannies.
but….. he has a reputation to keep up!! and his wife straight-up disappearing and leaving him would be 100x worse than a divorce…. so here he comes!! to save the day!! and his reputation!!
as you can imagine, between her husband figuring out her real motive + her…. barely liking her mother, she would be inclined to return to nyc… but that’s where harley’s murder will come in!! the perfect crime!! literally!!
TL;DR:
a former It Girl™ with daddy issues, mommy issues, and a fear of commitment.
CONNECTION IDEAS:
**open to any gender unless otherwise specified
her husband (m): WILL BE BEING SENT INTO THE MAIN.
that connection based off of “jenny” (f/nb): WILL BE BEING SENT INTO THE MAIN.
various affairs: gotta have those if she’s resigned to a new life… still with her husband :\
‘friends’ from the class of 2002-2005: i think that’s the right range for when she would’ve been THAT BITCH in the high-school?? but ya!! ppl chillin w her for the clout and she was like “this is validating”
enemies from the class of 2002-2005: again, i THINK that’s the right range?? but wow. ppl she didn’t even TRY to be nice to. or ppl who j straight-up hated her. there were plenty of reasons!!
hookups / ‘dates’ from the class of 2002-2005: again with the math?? But ya!! more inclined to ‘date’ those cool folks, but apparently didn’t discriminate with her hookups if her alibi is any clue.
neighbors: up in the hills chillin right next to a very watered down political joan crawford, her trophy husband who yeet’d out of existence, and eventually her very shallow daughter and said shallow daughter’s husband who’s probs closer in age to said very watered down political joan crawford. what could go wrong!!
acquaintances of any sort from the class of 2000: gotta get them skels!!
more to come!!

Tumblr media
Ohh this one is interesting, very different.
A song that reminds you of [character/ship]. -Okay, so we know I've been watching The OC, because apparently it's the year 2004... And Ryan and Marissa are 2 of the main characters. There's a very distinct scene in that show where a cover of Running up that Hill is playing. (The music in that show is perfect)
A song you associate with a head canon you have about [character/ship]. -Hmm, I really don't know if I have one.
A song that you associate with [show/movie/etc] because of exactly one (1) applicable lyric.  Share the lyric! -Every time I hear House of the Rising son I think of Sons of Anarchy. But I feel like Never Leave Harlan Alone is so reminiscent of Justified. And it's that main line "And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone You will never leave Harlan alive" I think of the Givens gravestones every time I hear those lyrics.
A song you associate with your least favorite character. -You know that song in like season 6 of Sons that Tara sings? Yea it's that one because I can't stand Tara. 😂

WHO: The Eves WHAT:  The Eves attempt to come to a conclusion on how they would like to proceed with the boys. POVs differ but ultimately, the majority settles on meeting the boys on neutral ground (the waterfall) to discuss the similarities of their shared predicament. WHEN: Day 13  NOTE: For future reference.
odessa "Okay, so before we all head to bed, I think we should finally discuss this. Who thinks we should talk to the boys? You know, to figure out why our predicaments are so similar."
zoya “Well, I mean obviously I’m down to talk to them. I just don’t think they’re much wiser than we are…”
shane shane just lets out an unhelpful grunt, pulling her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them.
grace Grace raised her hand to cast her vote but when Zoya spoke, she realised they were supposed to provide a reasoning for it, "I just think like, we're better off in a bigger group, like there's more resources and shit," she suggested, "-and the guys are mad chill, like they can do stuff that we can't or don't want to do too, I think it's just good," she shrugged her shoulders, assuming the others would feel fairly similar, unaware of the shit storm that was brewing behind the poker faces of some of them. jude "i mean, have you seen them?" jude raised her eyebrows. "that have an axe, and that's it. they don't seem smart, or like they have resources, or anything like that. talking to them would probably be a fucking mistake. we already wasted a bunch of our shit babysitting their asses, making sure the broken-leg kid didn't die." and more than that, they weren't one of us. they were guys, most of them tall, most of them feeling uncomfortable familiar. she would be happy if they fucking disappeared. "i mean, what can they do that we can't? we're badass. we're a hell of a lot tougher and smarter than they are."
clarke "i just want to be with my brother. i can vouch for them. and grace is right, we're better with the numbers"
grace Grace nodded her head in agreement with Clarke, pointing at her for a moment or so without saying anything, deciding that it was mad unfair to force her to be apart from her brother. He was her brother.
alexa “I agree with safety in numbers.” She adds, she doesn’t want this conversation to turn into a Lex wanting dick convo so she keeps it simple. “Plus that Joe guy seems real lovely and helpful. Like….he’s into shelter and whatever. And besides it’s literally Clarke’s brother there, we can’t block them out. It wouldn’t be fair…” — “not to mention as far as we know, we are only people on this island. In two weeks time they’ll be just as familiar as we are to each other…”
joss Joss shook her head before she found the words to speak, "-but that's not true," she argued with Lex, "They're not like us, that's not true. Boys think differently, they act differently, we can't predict them as much as we'd love to say we can. Yeah, Clarke, you and your brother are different but the rest? We don't know and we won't know in two weeks either,"
erin Though Erin didn't really want to speak up any more, she's been thinking about what the others wanted to do about the boys they'd met for most of the day. She thought about her mother, some dumb saying she used to say to Erin about how you had to say how you felt, because not very many people can accurately guess. She swallowed before she spoke. " I'm gonna be honest with you guys, 'cause that's what you deserve. I don't want anything to do with them. " She realises that this might strictly contradict how hard she'd tried to help Callum but she hadn't felt like she had a choice then. " You guys can talk to them and whatever if you want, but I'd just ask you don't tell them where our shelter or our stuff is. " Maybe that's a bit ridiculous, she realises after she says it, and so tacks on. " Not until you get to know them a bit better, at least. "
shane looking to joss and then erin when they spoke up, shane nodded her head. she knew jenny wanted to know more about why the two groups were there and shane cared about them that much. but she just couldn't see this ending well. "i agree with joss and erin." her eyes drifting to jenny as if to gauge if they would be upset with her.
izzy izzy's strongest opinion right now was just that, honestly, she wished they had done this somewhere other than around the fire. how was it that smoke seemed to have a mind of it's own, always able to find izzy and snake it's way into her ( pretty weak ) lungs? she wasn't sure what to do about the boys. she didn't love being put on the spot, or decision making, for that matter. "odessa, what do you think?" she turned to odessa, coughing a slightly allergic cough into her shoulder. she was at least half willing to follow odessa's lead.
nyla She cocked her head at Jude's response. To her surprise it was the answer that gave her some food for thought and made her reconsider her response. "The only thing we can know about them is that they have an axe. I think we should do more negotiations. We can dump their asses and never speak to them again if we find out they're completely useless or bad news."
margo "I'm not a fan of leaving people to die and some of them seem pretty cool. All we have to go off is a first impression. I say we give them a chance?"
odessa Odessa was deep in thought but she knew she couldn't ponder for long. She had to be decisive. "I agree with Margo. We should at least talk to them. It'd be crazy to pass up the opportunity. And we can be careful. And obviously, full caution. No sharing info on camp or whatever."
alexa “so you don’t trust them because boys think differently? are you forreal?” she sighs in frustration. she wouldn’t want people being presumptuous about her, so how was it fair to be like that in return? women had screwed her over way more than guys ever did and she still gave them a chance. “whatever, since we are all so GIRLY and dramatic and pmsing like a bunch of GIRLS then whatever…” she gets up on her feet. “im with margo, clarke and other reasonable people who are aware that these are a bunch of boys not prisoners so…excuse me…” she leaves deciding it’s better she doesn’t get involved with the rest of the conversation.
jude "i can't believe i fucked her," jude grimaced as lex walked away, loud enough for everyone to here.
joss Joss' expression soured when Alexa spoke, "Oh fuck off, Lex," she spat venomously at the other girl, frustrated by the fact that her words had been reduced to PMS when they had come from a much more genuine understanding of what boys could be like when they wanted to take advantage of trust. "Yeah, nah, you're excused, get lost," she waved the other girl off dismissively, knowing how petty and childish she sounded but unable to hold it back. If she didn't grunt at Lex like a farm animal, she'd be crying about how hurt she was by the other girls words instead and it was better off this way.
hattie you know you're between a rock and a hard place when lex is the most rational-sounding person in the group. hattie runs a hand over her sunburnt face and stares at the other girls from between her fingers. "this is ridiculous," she says. "the girls and i just spent an afternoon with them. they're fine. they're scared and hungry, but they're fine. get over yourselves and start putting your heads together to think about what two planes crashing on one island means for us." clarke "i trust my brother more than i trust myself and if he could survive two weeks with them, then they can't be that bad!" she spoke up, suddenly feeling as if she needed to defend her choice to want to be with her brother more than the eves. grace Grace nodded her head in agreement, "We played UNO, they're just kids," she assured the rest of the girls, feeling bad about how much angst was in the group when the Eves that had been in the cave had actually managed to have fun with the boys. She wished they could have been there to see it in action, maybe that would have cooled their jets a little.
jude "for all we know, they're lying about all of that. i wasn't on a plane with them. i was on a plane with you guys. for all we know, there was no second plane crash! we don't fucking know! there's something wrong, i get that, it means something for us, but for us, not them. not them," she said, tensing a little. maybe everybody would think she was crazy. maybe she was crazy. she felt crazy.
jenny Yeah, alright, this was sort of complicated huh. Jenny pressed their lips together in thought, eyes glancing to Shane when she spoke up, realising that her opinion made it even more complicated. " I don't see the harm in, you know, giving them a chance. " Jenny said after a second. " Like, for sure, what Odessa said. Not sharing any critical info until we're all confident about sharing it. But they've got info about this place that we don't– like, they said they had a radio. " Okay, it had definitely been past tense and involved one of their's falling off a cliff or something but still. " They lost it, but if we can find it that would be huge. And they're pretty worn thin, if we can spare them like, a little food, show them where the waterfall is, they'll be even more in our debt than they are already. " clarke "jude, i literally hugged my brother at the airport two weeks ago. they're not lying!"
hattie "how the fuck else would they have gotten here." hattie was never in the mood to entertain jude's funny gal bullshit, but least of all right now. "and why would it matter if they landed here any other way? we're both stranded."
zoya “I mean we could have weekly meetings at an agreed upon point until we all figure this shit out. Clarke and whoever else can go vibe with them and we keep our camp hidden for now.”
jude "'cause why the fuck would they say it was all the same as us if it wasn't? everybody knows that two planes just don't crash the same place! that does not happen. so - i don't know what - i don't know if we were put here, or, or - what, but they didn't get here naturally, and we don't know that we can trust them, so why would we go around giving them our shit? why would we go around telling them shit about us? does it not fucking bother anyone else the way things just appear and dissapear on this fucking island? i mean, where the fuck did jill's body go?" she urged, sweat beading on her forehead. yeah, okay. she looked like she was fucking crazy.
hattie hattie took a deep, concentrated breath. "yeah. that's kind of the whole point of letting them in. so we can figure out what the fuck is going on."
joss Joss could feel her anxiety bubbling and brewing in the put of her stomach, the more and more the others spoke, whether it was for the Adams or against them, it didn't matter, the cacophony of voices was enough alone to send the blonde's head into a whirlwind. The more the argument continued, the more she realised that there was a good chance of her losing it, a good chance of the boys rolling out their sleeping bags or whether the fuck they had right beside the sleeping spots the Eves had already made and there would be nothing Joss could do or say that would change it. She pressed her palm to her chest and felt her heartbeat pick up as she sat in silence, swallowing the lump in her throat that had held her words captive for minutes now. What if they found their camp and ambushed them in the night? Now that they knew the girls were out there, what was stopping them from hunting them down? Scouring the island until they found them? Even if the girls told them to fuck off, why would they? She took in a deep breath, feeling like she'd held her head underwater since the last time she'd spoken aloud, though the only thing that was drowning her was her racing thoughts and the nerves in her gut that had started to make her hands shake until she buried them in her lap to hide her white knuckles from the others.  She was only half listening now, picking up key words while she chewed on the inside of her cheek and stared at the sand, trying not to throw up on it if she could help it.
shane for once, shane wasn't about all the fighting. she was just as curious about this place as jenny was, but she was still reeling from her panic attack earlier and she wasn't so sure that it wasn't going to happen again. she wanted to agree with jenny, she really did. but she couldn't. rather than speak up about it, she just ran her hands through her hair and put her forehead against her knees to hide herself in a small ball.
nyla Nyla's eyes widened and whatever nonsense Jude was spouting. It was some flat eather level conspiracy theory bullshit and it sounded more sincere than the usual bullshit Jude came out with. "If you think there's some massive conspiracy shouldn't you want to find out for sure if they're lying and if there's any holes in their story?" she challenged. "I like Zoya's plan of deciding on a neutral meeting spot."
divya “Guys, we can be cautious but we can also be compassionate. They’re not a bad lot. They took it really well when I beat them all at UNO. I agree with the neutral meeting spot.” jude "fucking you tell me, then, nyla, and don't say you wanna 'figure it out' and 'talk to them,' 'cause i'm sure you do, but i'm also sure you've fucking thought about it, right? so, okay, i'm a little slow on the uptake. i'm sure i'm not the smartest one here. but any of you - can any of you tell me what the fuck you think happened to land both of us here, the same day? instead of just saying we should talk to the boys? i mean, for fuck's sake, what do you guys think happened, then? 'cause i may be the fuckin' dunce, i may be the town idiot, but i guarantee i know a hell of a lot more about plane crashes, okay? but i don't have to, not to know this is suspicious as fuck," she spat, shaking a little, voice uneven as she thought, mostly, of her mother.
clarke she really didn't understand what jude was going on about. she can understand not trusting the boys at first, but not trusting her after they've spent two weeks together? it really said something about clarke's place in the group. "listen, i can tell you everything i know about the boys' group. i'll tell you whatever you need to know to believe that they're not evil or something. but i'm not leaving my brother to die out there after i just spent weeks thinking i was going to die without ever seeing him again." as clarke trying to yell back at the group (mostly jude) she could feel her throat burning as she tried to fight back tears. zoya She looks over at Jude “Our situation is just as fucking nuts. We all survived the crash with minimal injuries, minimal debris, not a single working phone, only one fucking luggage back which…just so happened to me the most useless bag that could have possibly washed up…” a sigh “point is, this shit was weird for the get go. Now it’s just double the fucked and we can’t just cut off entirely the new pieces of the puzzle.” Jude wasnt sounding crazy, but she seemed to have been missing a perspective . “And don’t you think we look just as suspicious to them as they do us? Come on bro…” a sigh. “I remain with the mutual spot idea..at this point I’m more concerned for them than I am about them…” fucking cutthroat bitches izzy it was the fighting, the pressure for thought, the smoke in her lungs. it made her anxious, reminded her, terribly, of home. she could feel her chest tighten, and she tried to move out of the direct line of smoke, coughing with irritated lungs into her elbow, a persistent, annoying cough. "maybe..." she began, clearing her throat, "i mean, anybody who wants to talk to them can. it's just, you know, maybe camp should stay just for us now, o-" she tried, trailing off into another cough before she could finish.
odessa Odessa could not with the lack of perspective some of the group had. She sighed, conceding to the idea that not all of them would be having this discussion with the boys. "Yeah, I mean, power in numbers but we can't force those that don't want to come. It's unfair. So if we're this divided, maybe it's best that those who want to go, go. And those who don't, stay."
jenny There's something they recognise in the way that Jude is freaking out. Something super fucking familiar. " That's why we gotta talk to them, dude. It is fucking suspicious, " They weren't going to go as far as to say conspiracy, not with literally all the Eves present. That sort of shit was reserved for people they knew weren't gonna call them crazy. " But like, those guys are an opportunity to find out more about what's going on. If we don't talk to them, we're never gonna know. " The way they spoke sort of went around on circles, but how could it not in this situation? They took a breath trying to reel in their thoughts, make them make sense to themselves at least. They found themselves looking to Shane, her presence almost always helping them feel calmer. But seeing her curled up, they shifted slightly closer to her, their legs bumping against her's. And putting their hand lightly on her back.
jude "i don't give a shit how we look to them. i know i didn't do shit. i know i'm not suspicious. and you were all fucking with me. but it - i mean, doesn't it have to be someone? and there's only one other fucking group, alright? so if it's anyone, it's them," jude protested unevenly. "you wanna go be with them? go ahead. but don't fucking tell them where we are, where we get shit we found," she continued. she did not even know what the amorphous someone that she was talking about was, what it was she was so suspicious of. she wanted this to be over so badly, she almost wondered why she was fighting so hard. she felt so tired, but, still - it was all she knew, to fight, to protest. she grimaced against the feeling of her rapid heartbeat.
erin It seemed most of the group was of the opinion that they shouldn't tell the other group where their shelter was, and selfishly that was enough for Erin to not pipe up again. As long as she, personally, didn't have to interact with them again, she was fine with it. Or she would have to be. Instead her attention fell to Izzy as she coughed again. That felt like too much coughing. Like more than we're stranded on an island and staying healthy is fucking hard amount of coughing. She reached for a bottle of boiled and cooled water, holding it out to her as she asked " You okay, Iz? "
zoya “I mean they know where the pig is…we can use the hot pink one as bait, the piggy seemed to like him…” maybe not the best moment to try being a light-hearted comment to the table, but boys could provide use beyond conversation. “Anyways, I honestly don’t give a shit. Talk to them, don’t talk to them, do what you want everyone…it’s what we all fuckin do anyway…” shane shane didn't need to look up to know that it was jenny touching her. they were the only one brave enough to do so. and while it did bring her some comfort, it wasn't enough to stop her brain from being overwhelmed with everything going on. she wanted to know what was going on here, she wanted to help jenny and be by their side; but she couldn't trust these guys, she didn't want to share their things or talk to them nicely. she didn't care if it was clarke's brother. she stayed in her ball but leaned into jenny's touch some.
izzy izzy took the water with a grateful grin and drank greedily, shooting erin a thumbs-up. the water on her throat brought relief for a couple of seconds, before that itchy, awful feeling began to come back again. she grimaced. she had 14 of her asthma pills left, and she'd begun taking them every other day to try and conserve them, but now, she was beginning to regret that. it made her nervous, the way her chest was beginning to constrict, the way that the cough wasn't really fading off. it was familiar, the warning signs of an incoming asthma attack, but seriously, could there be a worse time? for one, everyone was awfully busy right now, what with the voting, and she didn't wanna be dramatic, or interrupt. she didn't want anyone to worry. on top of that, she was trying not to use her inhaler unless it was absolutely necessary, and she was still trying to convince herself that the water was enough to kill the coughing. it was that awful feeling of trying not to draw attention to yourself in the middle of, like, a standardized test, you know? she tried her best to stifle the coughs, drinking from the waterbottle every few seconds. "thanks," she managed to erin finally, 'cause, you know - she still had her manners
hattie god. this was like the mccarthyism unit hattie had to sit through for international history class. she didn't understand why the girls were so attached to the idea of a united front against some random group of boys when they couldn't even agree on a chore schedule, most days. "right," she said with a note of finality, "does anyone have a reason not to trust these guys other than that they're guys? and no conspiracy bullshit."
jude "how about the tall dude who wouldn't fucking put down the axe?" jude offered incredulously. she got the feeling that anything she said would rate as 'conspiracy bullshit' to hattie, even if jude just quoted the boy's exact story back to her. like, okay, is the fact that their planes crashed the same place, the same day, not reason enough to think they're fucking suspicious? this isn't the fucking bermuda triangle.
zoya Hattie was on her level for sure. “No, not really. Except maybe they’re too easy to kill…says a lot about their overall usefulness. I wouldn’t want to waste any more supplies on their clumsy asses…” she points at Jude. “I mean like Jude said, one of them had a whole axe and they still lost one dude and got two injured as fuck so…dunno, I wouldn’t want us to shelter a bunch of idiots unless we have to. Which is why, again, I bring the solution of ‘no mans land’ and like the common ground and whatever…”
shane shane finally spoke up, not moving her head up for her voice to carry much, but she said the same thing she had brought up to erin earlier in the jungle. "if we join groups or whatever, that's going to be twice as many people to take care of, to feed and get water. and they don't really look like they're up for the job." she didn't really know why she was saying this, they weren't talking about that, but it was all she had besides the fact that she didn't trust them just because they were guys. she probably should have just kept her mouth shut, but whatever.
hattie "oona went into the woods with him and came out alive, so i think it's safe to say he's not an axe murderer," hattie reasoned. she turned to shane. "and they're injured, not brain-dead. the one with the tattoos said he can fish, right? that's more resources to go around. more hands for choring."
shane shane just shrugged her shoulders, keeping her head down. that was all the ammo she had so she just kept quiet after that.
zoya “Okay yeah I think we shouldn’t jump the gun and join camps until we can establish some sort of power hierarchy. We all agree on respecting this new schedule. We don’t know if these people will be down to play by our rules…” knowing how men worked, they would probably have their own ideas in mind. “I just feel like we should be two friendly neighbours, ya know? They have their house, we have ours and we all meet up at the community centre where we discuss the benefit of the community. We can visit each other, bring each other fruit baskets and scream at each other to keep our dogs in check…but ultimately….not under the same roof…”
margo "Yeah what Hattie said, Axeman seemed decent when he went off with Oona. It could be an act but I don't know for sure. Oona didn't seem uncomfortable and I got the vibe he was on his best behaviour. He's the only one with macho dickheadhead vibes. The rest seem cool or kind of pathetic, maybe a bit of both." izzy "maybe - " izzy began, having to stop to drink more water, chest aching wholly now. "maybe we should just vote now," she continued, a little weary from effort. "'cause, we - " again, she broke off into ragged, congested coughing, which was, honestly, pretty embarrassing. "sorry," she said, clearing her throat, which helped very little. "we don't seem to be, um, getting anywhere," she finished finally, sipping again on the water, which seemed to soothe her throat for less and less time each time she drank.
zoya “Izzy man, do you need to lay down?”
joss Joss took a deep breath and let it out quickly, bracing herself before she spoke, "Well, I'm voting no and I'm in the middle of folding clothes so I'm going back to that, I don't have anything else to add, you sort it out among yourselves, I'm sure that's the plan anyway," she was being harsh and brash for no conceivable reason but she couldn't help it. She'd said her piece, she'd been mocked for it, she'd shut up and listened for the rest of the discussion despite her desire to bail and now she had reached the end of her rope. She was done with it.
izzy "i'm okay," she said, quickly and hoarsely, face blotchy and red. "i - " she broke off with a short, barking cough, "i think we should talk. not here," she clarified, trying to keep her sentences short. she could feel face breaking out in a thin sheen of sweat, and all she could think was: holy shit, this is inconvenient. she coughed again.
jude "i'm with joss," jude said through gritted teeth. "not on the laundry - sorry, joss. just on voting no."
odessa “Okay, so that’s two no’s... Unless anyone else wants to speak up, I'm taking silence as being okay with talking to the boys.” Odessa said distractedly. Her attention was more so on Izzy than anything else, watching the girl with concerned eyes. “Are you sure? You don’t sound okay.” Nor did she look it if Odessa was being honest. Izzy’s face was red on top of the fact that she couldn’t seem to stop coughing. “Hey Iz, maybe you and I should step out for a sec,” she suggested.
izzy "'kay," izzy managed breathlessly, standing up on unsteady legs, clinging to the water bottle like a lifeline. she stumbled out of the circle, thinking that if she could just distance herself from the smoke, she'd be okay again. she took a gulp of cool night air, trying to ignore the wheezy, whistling sound her lungs made as she inhaled. she could only breathe so deep before it came out in a sputtering cough, but she still did her best to stay on her feet. "i'm seriously fine," she reiterated, coughing weakly and sipping her water again. it soothed the coughing a little, enough to get a little more air in. "my throat's jus' dry," she continued. that age old mantra, eating away at her, making her shrink under other's eyes, making her want to be swallowed whole: for fuck's sake, izzy. this isn't about you. not everything can be about you. she tried not to panic when the coughing began again as she continued to move away from the group into the night breeze.
erin She watched Izzy with concern, even after she drank some water she still seemed like she was choking. However, Odessa distracted her for a moment. " I'm a no too, " As if that wasn't obvious, but it felt a little more complex than Joss and Jude. " But just for me. I don't want to talk to them, I don't mind if anyone else does though. Just, yeah, don't tell them where camp is. Just yet. " Or ever, if Erin were to say how she truly felt. But, it seemed everyone was agreed on that anyway. Save for Clarke, and even that was a maybe. She was drawn back to Izzy however, when her breath whistled. Like something was caught. However, with Odessa already accompanying her outside, Erin simply watched with concerned eye. " Make sure she drinks some more water, " She said to Odessa as the two stepped away.
bev bev had been uncharacteristically ignoring everyone in order to pout that no one included her on the vote when she wanted, even if that wasnt totally accurate. "iz, babe what do you need?" she asked, attempting to soften her voice and face, mainly cause whatever izzy had going on wasnt her source of annoyance. "look, imma say what i want." she moved closer to the middle, taking advantage of the attention. "I get that some of those dude seem scary, i think ita mostly cause they smell but you know, we dont need to go all dr phil about like...issues with bros. not to like, reduce whatever those are, just keeping it vague but we also need their resources, even if its just physical labor and we need to figure out why this shit is so similar, like most people ive talked to think they're here as punishment, but this bitch is not and some of y'all dont seem that vicious, no offense. " she took an inhale, looking to the group to see how this was going over. "however, what the fuck do we have to gain by sending girls who are uncomfy with it to that squad of dudes? like, majority rules isnt gonna mean shit if what we choose leaves some people struggling, for real." bev shrugged, moving back to her corner. "i vote we need these boys, but that we dont all need to be with them, ya know babes?"
oona Oona stayed quiet. Everyone seemed to have intense opinions on the matter at hand, and she understood that. Her afternoon with the boys had been fairly easygoing, despite the severe wound thrown into the mix, and she was impressed by their resilience in the aftermath of all that bad luck. But sitting here now, she felt itchy—like their eyes on her had left dozens of little pinpricks all over her skin. It wasn’t a foreign feeling, but it was certainly a heightened one after two weeks with the people she had grown so accustomed to and comfortable with. So no, she wasn’t Team Merge Camps by any means. But she was glad when the idea of finding a neutral zone was proposed; she considered that too back in the jungle. She nodded as Bev spoke. “I vote yes too,” she added. “To talking to them in an in-between space. And I agree with Bev. If you don’t want to go, then you don’t have to.” It probably wouldn’t be conducive to any discussions they would have either if tightlipped, standoffish people were sent for the task. And it would hardly brew peace back in their own camp, if they grew more and more tense in response to both the theoretical arm-twisting and the unwanted interaction. Oona sighed. And she didn't want anyone to be unhappy. They already had so many reasons to be. “I really don’t want anyone to be in an uncomfortable position when it’s not at all necessary.”
elise "i think we at least need to even things out...in terms of protection." the second she said it, elise wondered if it made her sound, weapon hungry or violent or something and then....would they figure it out?
zoya She felt like this matter was over and done with, and when Oona, most likely her favourite person on the island, put it into words she felt no need to go on it further. It was literally the best option. One which accommodated everyone. “What Oona said. I second that.” elise "does that mean everyone agrees to keep our shelter secret, like as a group consensus?" she tried to hide the skepticism in her voice, but she knew all it could take is one 'let me grab you some of our water' or good time for the whole thing to shift.
jude "we fucking better," jude said decisively. "they don't need to know where we are, where our shit is. i don't care how buddy-buddy the rest of you get with them, okay? it's all of our camp, so it's fucked up to go telling them where we are, alright? and i'm the one who found the cave we're sitting in right now, right? so i don't fucking - i don't want them in it," she said urgently, anxiousness rising in her chest as she laid it all out decisively. she would not put it past clarke to bring her brother over for a visit, or past lex to bring a dick appointment down to the beach.
zoya She was getting so tired of Jude that, if she had more balls than this,  she would probably have knocked her out by now and let her sleep off the cuntiness. But alas, she didn't want to add fuel to the fire. Not when they had bigger shit to take care of, like...how, if they don't secure a proper and continuous source of food beyond seafood and mushrooms, they would probably starve to death before these boys can do fuck all. "No boys allowed in camp, I'm cool with that." clarke even though no one said it or put any pressure on clarke, she still felt the need to speak up to assure her fellow eves that she would go with whatever they have planned. if there was anyone who needed to hear this rule, it was lex was long gone and probably lost in the jungle at this point. “okay, no one tells them where the camp is,” she repeated weakly. “maybe we can make the waterfall common ground? we all can use it for water. it’s not like anyone should be bathing in it or anything,” she tried to not thinking about what elise revealed to everyone during the card game the night before.
elise "yeah, noted there." she figured people didn't forget. "but I still think having a defense per team is a good idea." especially when they have an axe.
hattie "i still think you're all vastly overestimating what these guys are capable of," said hattie, rubbing her temples. "but fine. if it'll take some of us," she sent a pointed look in jude's direction, "off the edge, let's meet at the waterfall. for now." jude cunt, she thinks, but instead she says: "an axe makes a lot of people a lot more capable than they usually are, and real quick." guys can do plenty of damage sans-weapon, so with a fucking axe? who knows. "elise is right. if we had an axe, or something like that - something bigger than, like, a pocket knife - that'd fuckin' help."
elise "id rather overestimate and be cautious than lose more people." she shot hattie a critical look, feeling like jude was being vulnerable only fpr it to be shot, didnt they say they wanted more than pussy jokes? "when i asked the dude with the axe to drop it, he wouldn't. why would that be if he weren't at least somewhat of a threat?" she exhaled, trying to control her own anxiety. "we take the knife and pepper spray with us anyway, for any predator." hattie "if one of those boys walked up to us and asked us to drop our weapons," she said slowly, seriously, "would you?"
zoya "What if that handed over the axe? What excuse would you have then?" and she knew it would just circle back around to 'they're boys' like say boys were somehow capable of taking Jude and Shane down. Especially in a combo. "Man this is all taking long, doubt they even want to merge camps or be around us. They seem far more interested in each other if you ask me..." and what happens when they all just randomly walk into their camp. If the boys go exploring, there's no way of knowing where they would end up. It's not like they were hiding in some deep-hidden bunker. They were literally on the beach. "What if they find our camp by accident? You guys ever think about that?"
jude would you? hattie asked, and jude thought of every stitch, every concussion, every fucking slap, every hand around her throat, of getting dragged from the windowsill by her hair, jaw hitting the endtable. no, of course she wouldn't. if she wanted to stand a chance, she wouldn't. and she can talk a big game all she wants when she's just fucking around, but she knows - she knows that even without the axe, that tall one could fucking kill her, no problem. without a weapon, would she stand a chance? she grimaced. "let's hope they don't," she said to zoya, biting her brutalized lip anxiously.
elise for a moment, elise felt her blood might freeze right there and she studied hattie up and down while she and zoya spoke. "I would if I was them and i saw how scared some of us were and I needed them to help my friends. and if they had-" voice increases as her fear mixed with anger did. "then id be vouching for that at least, but he didnt, because he wanted the power. this is not a gendered thing for me, this is about a threat, so don't give me that 'not all men' bs." she crossed her arms around her chest. "youb can talk big shit about hunting and guts but i bet you'd feel a lot fucking difference if that ended up being someone here's fate, on whatever side of the island.
oona It took Oona a moment to clock into the fact that they were talking about the same guy who told her a silly fact about Wales. And when she did, her eyes widened. "He's not a threat," she defended as soon as she could get a word in edgewise, then immediately started to regret it. She didn't want anyone there to turn against her for saying it. Hesitantly, she continued: "He let me use it without a problem, so he did put it down. Technically." zoya She looks over at Elise. Of course, the power issue was apparent. "That's exactly why I think we should all stay on top of our own groups. We have a good thing going, we have a schedule flashed out, we got...I don't know, something that resembles a camp..." a sigh. "That doesn't mean we can't interact with them, talk to them, exchange goods, or whatever. Maybe we can even borrow this stupid axe if we let Oona chill with them for a bit, and hunt down that pig since...they clearly suck at hunting themselves..." she was pretty certain boys were the weaker group. If judged by a number of injuries, lack of supplies and what she got to see of them, them boys would be LUCKY to have them around. Zoya basically called them pathetic dogs to their face and the most resistance she got was a few grunts. "All I'm saying is, we need to focus on what we want. -- We don't want them in our camp, we established that. We don't want NOT to talk to them, so we figured waterfall as the middle ground. Those who want to talk to them will, those who don't...don't have to either. So what are we arguing about? Feels like we're just running in circles and it's getting boring..."
jude "you know?" she said finally, calmly, trying not to choke on the words. "i guess it doesn't really matter." of course it didn't. because, look - look at them. look at where they were. they were going to die, right? like lex. like mom. they had been put here, and they were going to die here, and then their bodies would probably be taken away. they'd probably never get answers. whether the boys killed them, or they killed each other, or nature killed them, they were gonna die. "it's fine," she finished, voice eerily still. she listened to the thrum of her heartbeat in her ears, going pale beneath her sunburn. whatever, right? it's not like she wasn't asking for it.
elise "i am glad to hear that." she spoke to oona, having kept herself from sobbing and yelling. "and i get where youre coming from, sorry zoya. but you cant assume we're all operating in your pov. if everyone feels ok about the decision to keep the camp secret, keep to rules about neutral ground then, sure let's move on." it was more of a defeat than anything but what could she give that wouldnt give it all away
zoya Rolls her eyes at Elise and throws her hands in the air in defeat. "Bitch, I literally included everyone's p.o. fucking v. in the equation. If we had it your and Judes way, then the vast majority of the group would be fully excluded from the narrative." she didn't mean to insult, but she didn't like words being put in her mouth. Especially when most views have been repeated multiple times and everyone's stance was pretty apparent. "It's called compromise. That's what we're trying to do, right? We done that. What else is there to fucking do?"
bev bev gave zoya a sympathetic look, not because she was in a heated moment but because bev too was bored.
jude "i just said it was fine," jude reminded zoya, shrugging. nobody listens to her unless they feel like having someone to be pissed off at.
zoya "I mean if we're to have it the way you truly feel as opposed to your compromise, you feel me?"
elise "fine." she knew it was passive aggressive but wasn't that better. "I just....want to keep people safe. we didn't all spend time with them, so we don't all have those moments they proved themselves. " she tried to drop the ego. jude said fine, and im saying fine so, go ahead." why did zoya assume elise and jude were coming from the same, again pov thing. "maybe we can write down a list of questions about their crash, those of us who aren't going to meet them."
bev "cool....baller, anyone else want to speak next?"
grace Grace had been listening to the discourse carefully, taking in points from both sides of the argument. She happened to think that the boys were a breath of fresh air but she could understand the hesitance, especially from girls like Erin, when she really thought about it. In truth, it made her feel sort of guilty for pushing the point, if it could be said that Grace had ever really pushed it at all. “I was just thinking like, so what if we just get them to cut down trees and shit for us and then we just ask for it,” that seemed a lot easier than the alternative, Grace wasn’t convinced she could swing an axe without hurting something, “We can give them old mangoes or something,” bev "smart, very hot of you and good compromise." she offered a wink, feeling like grace was preventing an entertaining beef but since they'd been having the same fight for awhile, bev was happy to move on to the next one.
elise while grace's strategy seemed like a good choice, elise couldnt shake that feeling the dude with the axe was bad news, even if he apparently was a separate person back on his own turf. they don't fucking get it, I couldnt protect them before but i can now and they treat me like cassandra of troy...fuck this. "im going for a walk, look for the others. write down whatever is decided I guess." and with that elise stood, popped her ear plugs in and stepped outside.

eyeforpharma Patient Summit Europe roundup
Tumblr media
eyeforpharma’s Patient Summit Europe brought together leading patient innovators from industry and patient associations for two days of sharing, learning and a healthy dose of challenging.
With about 250 registrants, it was a small but significant group of committed and enthusiastic patient leaders who covered every patient-centric topic possible, from trials to technology, end-points to experience, and more. As one speaker put it, when the whole industry becomes truly patient-centric, we won’t need events like this. So how far along the journey are we, and what will it take to get there?
From a cultural change perspective, partnership was the big theme. Servier’s chief patient officer Lode Dewulf proposed that just as the human ability to scale and adapt the way we collaborate has been the determining factor in our dominance as a species, collaboration will be critical for the industry to become truly patient-centric. But developing a more collaborative mindset would mean learning to relinquish control, he said. As Catalina Cernica from LEO Innovation Lab summarised in her presentation, “If we consider patient centricity as a source for competitive advantage, we won’t progress. We have to see patient centricity as a platform for collaborative advancement.”
How are those pioneering patient centricity driving change across their organisations, and are they always getting the support they need?
CSL Behring’s Metani Rooms said that her company is asking patients what can be done better and taking the answers to employees all over the world. “The more challenging and uncomfortable the conversations we are having, the more we are learning,” she said. Her team has developed a comprehensive knowledge-sharing platform to train employees, and support comes from the very top.
“Technology is said to make healthcare more patient centric – but is that really the case?” Oliver Gassner, Bayer
Technology as an enabler
Leveraging tech is still seen as a priority, but speakers were discerning about its use. Oliver Gassner from Bayer asked, “Technology is said to make healthcare more patient centric – but is that really the case?” He argued that patients don’t want the authority of the doctor replaced and that technology should aid decision making and support at home follow-up. He emphasised the role of social and behavourial factors as determinants of outcomes, and that these should be the drivers.
Along similar lines, the team from IQVIA advocated for digital solutions to be integrated with existing care models. With more than three hundred thousand health apps and the same number of consumer wearable devices available, it can be difficult for patients to know where to go, although the evidence showed a much higher level of engagement when a physician makes a recommendation. They proposed that the rigour that comes with traditional product development be applied to new apps and technologies.
One area where technology is having a positive impact and showing great potential is in clinical trials. Alistair MacDonald from Syneos Health shared his insights on how technology can create a more rewarding experience for patients on clinical trials. More companies, he said, are investing in E-clinical platforms which go beyond the traditional site setting and take the study to the patient. This minimises the study burden for patients and reduces drop out. According to MacDonald, virtual assistants like Alexa and chatbots are receiving positive feedback from patients when deployed in clinical trials appropriately. But he warned the audience not to expect technology to reduce the costs of virtual trials.
Involving patients in trial design
Jenny Ainsworth from Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, who runs parent and young people’s advisory groups that have inputted into protocol design, advised the industry on engaging more proactively with patients. “You need to go out to them. Parents wouldn’t think twice about knocking on the hospital door.”
But do payers care about end-points that are meaningful to patients? Ian Banks, chair of ECCO said, “Patients don’t want to live forever, the want normality,” he said. “But most research is based on longevity.” So how much do the payers take the patient’s perspective into account?
On day 2, NICE was represented by Mark Rasburn, who emphasised the organisation’s commitment towards greater patient involvement. NICE includes two Lay Members on each committee and has fifty committees running at any one time. David Chandler, a NICE Lay Member, said that his experience had been very positive, “NICE is very fair and bends over backwards for as much information to be included,” he said.
Designing trials that reduce burden and improve outcomes that patients care about is one thing, but one of the biggest challenges is enrolment. Yet, according to the International Kidney Cancer Coalition’s (IKCC) Rachael Giles, patients want more information about them and want to get involved. Commenting on its first patient survey involving 2000 people across 43 countries, she said that “70% of patients said they were not asked to participate in a clinical trial. Of those, 89% said it was fairly likely that they would have participated if asked.”
Data ownership and access
As expected, data was a hot topic. Helen Matthews from The Cure Parkinson’s Trust said, “patients want to know that their data is being used to change things, they want to have access to their data and make their own decisions about which research it should support.”
Janssen’s Caroline Feys supported the view that patients want their data back with the context around it, including the overall study results. They are interested in how they are doing in relation to everyone else, she said. In her experience, patients understand that they cannot get all the data if the integrity of the study is to be maintained. She proposed that patients should be able to opt-out of receiving data if that’s the right choice for them.
All patients are not the same
According to the patient-centricity model, it all begins with patient insights, but variability within patient populations needs to be considered. “For those with chronic diseases, cure means different things to different people dependent on where they are in their own journey,” said Helen Matthews. “If newly diagnosed, it is never having received that diagnosis, if diagnosed for a few years, it is halting the disease at that point or reversing the disease progression, but if you have been living with the condition for a long time, the focus changes to ensuring no one else needs to endure the disease.”
Sarah Krug from CANCER 101 wanted to ensure that the broader patient population is addressed too. “The person walking down the street may not have been in touch with a patient advocacy group. How do we bring him or her into the conversation?” she asked. The need to tailor patient education from a cultural perspective, both across and within countries was emphasised and educating physicians to be aware of resources as much as treatments that can help.
Patients were the focus, but caregivers were not forgotten. Air Liquide’s Catherine Billoett shared her company’s research in collaboration with the European Parkinson’s Disease Association (EPDA), on the challenges facing caregivers of people living with Parkinson’s disease. The study design was informed by patients and their families and the outcome will be to create efficient home care solutions that support patients by helping their caregivers – a great example of co-design – bringing the people that matter into the development of solutions at the beginning.
When patients are unwilling to wait
What happens when patients think the industry isn’t moving fast enough? In the case of the #wearenotwaiting diabetes community, represented by Tim Street, its unwillingness to wait for the industry led to the creation of Nightscout, a remote glucose monitoring tool, allowing a father to monitor his son’s data during school hours. This was followed by the Open Artificial Pancreas System project, which is supported by a growing diabetes community. How far is this from becoming a reality in pharma? Paul Simms from eyeforpharma predicted that “regulation won’t stop patient-centred medicine”. In a world where the old rules are being broken, Paul may have a point.
A Summit on patient-centricity wouldn’t be complete without measurement and we were not disappointed. Theresa Finlay from PARADIGM, an EU-wide Innovative Medicines Initiative project on sustainable patient involvement across the cycle of medicines development, recognised the challenge to convince others on the return on engagement, advising that “It’s important to consider value, not just what is easy to measure, be practical and usable and balance the qualitative with the quantitative.” PARADIGM will be launching its interactive online framework tool in June 2020.
The conference provided some inspiring lessons – work together, listen more, try new things, learn and share. If you haven’t started the journey or – as one audience member called it – the adventure, then Catalina Cernica’s message is a good one to take back to HQ: “Start small, have an ambition and a big vision. It’s a long-term commitment for the whole industry.”

4| For The Sake of Dancing
Ballet or dance! AU Ship: BTS x reader A/N: So after a short poll it was decided that this story would turn out to be a BTS fic and no more a Jimin fic. Hope you enjoy this chapter, sorry for any spelling error. Word count: 1025
Masterlist   Prev   Next
PREVIOUSLY ON FOR THE SAKE OF DANCING:
"Right students! I am Mister Park Seojoon. Welcome in Pas de deux, I'll set you in pair. Listen carefully: Mister Im with Miss Pranpriya...."
You could hear groaning and unsatisfied mumbling. The teacher obviously didn't know about the rivalry between his students. You just hopped you wouldn't get someone too bad. Aish, if only you knew...
"And finally Mister Tuan and Miss (Y/L/N)."
Your breath hitched in your throat. Your eyes twitched to the man as he grinned to you.
"Hey baby girl, ready to dance?"
Unsure you let Mark take your waist in his hands. You desperately tried to find Marison's eyes in the crowd but she wasn't looking at you. No, she was looking at her partner Seokjin, one of the seniors your group was given. That lucky one. You turned to Janel she was with a guy named Youngjae. She seemed neutral about this but you knew she was a tad bit uncomfortable considering she probably wanted to be with Jack.  All the others seemed not really enjoying their partners. There Lisa, Rosé, Jisoo and Jennie were with four guys from Mark's and the other boys were with the girls from Mark's group too. There were just little exceptions for Alexa who was with Jimin, Jungkook which was with Jess and Marison partnered with Jin.
Gulping you turned to Mark not so sure. Suddenly, you noticed he was a lot more serious, no more flirtarious glance. You placed yourself correctly and regained composure.
"Gentleman hold your partner's waist. At three, pointe and then chassé.''
The students all in line in the huge room, waited for the signal. You could sense your heart beating against your chest. You were almost sure Mark could sense it too. He gave you a gentle squeeze on the waist and you raised your eyes toward his.
"Don't worry, if anything's wrong I'm gonna help you."
You nod carefully as he smiled encouragingly. 'What's up with him? Why is he all sweet suddenly?'
"One, two, three pointe! Good, now, chassé!"
"Okay darling, just keep your leg straight and push the ground as much as you can with your toes. Imagine something disgusting is on the floor and you really do not want to set your feet in it." Whispered Mark to help you get on your pointe.
You raised on your toes, following his advice. Your toes were hurting as hell but you just bit your lips to avoid the yelp to escape your mouth.
"Nice, I know it hurts at first but the sensation will soon be ignored, I promise. Now trust me and let me guide you threw the chassé. Just... don't be sloppy and do Yoona's move, she's the girl just in front of us." He add always holding your waist.
Slowly your followed the girls movement and you surprisingly got it easily. Soon enough, you and Mark were doing your chassé perfectly. Mister Seojoon was looking at you really satisfied. You looked around the room to see if your friends were managing it too; Marison was a bit sloppy but she had it pretty well, Janel managed to step on her partner's foot many time in a few seconds and she looked more more guilty each times, Isaac tried not to stumble and let go of his partner's waist, Taeyeon, which seemed to get angrier and angrier each time she felt he was about to fall because he can't do his pointe properly, Jess and Jungkook had it good, Aiden had a lot of trouble to stay on his toes but thankfully his partner, Tiffany, helped him as much as she could going slow for him to be able to follow the rhythm, Markus was a perfect one, he had his pointe really good and held his partner just like if she was a peace of porcelain, Josh was sloppy but just as Marison add it okay, Jack stumbled a bit but still managed to keep up with the girl he's with; Sooyoung and finally Alexa add it badly, really badly not a tad bit gracious; Jimin being sweet and all tried to show her but she was just too hip hop-ish.
"Okay now add a little fouetté at each chassé you do!" ~~~
"Yeah, see you Tuan." You smiled at your partner as you were about to head each other to your normal barre class with your normal group.
"See you (Y/N)." He said, grinning as he walked fast toward his friends.
You let a breath out and headed to your class. 'That was fun, I didn't expect to find dancing with Mark so fun.'  You thought, 'Well I look forward for the next Pas de deux class-' . Suddenly someone touched your shoulder and you jumped out of fear, because you were too engrossed in your day dreaming about your class. You turned to see Taehyung. His eyes looked grim and his lips were pursed.
"Taehyung?" You asked.
"Don't tell me you're getting all friendly with Tuan." He said dead serious, which you did not expect of him.
Your heart shattered in pieces hearing his hurt tone and seeing how serious he was. Not even the shadow of a smile. You then remembered this morning's conversation.
"Tae, please." You started looking toward the floor. "He's my Pas de deux partner. I do not intend to be his friend..." You realized you doubted your own words. Mark wasn't a bad guy, really. Just a bit... playful.
"If you say so." He said hesitantly. "Sorry, I just y-you know I thought you were just getting all friendly with him. To be honest I was scared you wouldn't have listened to me and fall for his flirting."
' And then wouldn't have talked to me anymore.' He thought to himself as a smile slowly appeared on his lips.
"Ah- no. Don't worry Tae. Your my friend after all, right? I wouldn't do this to you."
You grinned to each others thinking about this morning when you became friend. So much friendship for two peoples who became friend the same day.

Yes, we hack email. No, not like that.
One of the things we love here at Alto is our startup-like operation. We foster a culture that empowers developers to put together awesome hacks, take chances, move fast and… well, you know the rest. Quarterly, the product engineering team holds an internal developer day where the engineers all pick a pet project, an issue or idea born from user feedback, or a problem they personally want to solve, and go at it hammer and tongs.
These rapid development efforts have frequently resulted in new product features and even whole new directions to take the product. Recently announced examples like the integration of Alto into Slack, and the incorporation of Amazon Alexa voice commands both came out of these kinds of internal hack days.
Tumblr media
The dedication of the Alto engineering team to rapid product development and creative, 360 degree input from the team, brings a rich tapestry of product benefits to Alto’s email service. We’re pretty proud of what the team does, so we’d like to share some of the hacks our team has developed recently. Partly this is because we want to celebrate our team and their initiatives, and partly we want to solicit some feedback from our user community.
Some of Our Internal Hacks
Tumblr media
Shop/Book Again The ability to see everything you’ve ever purchased organized by where you bought it, the ability to search/sort as needed, and instantly re-purchase in a couple taps.
For example: say you bought amazingly comfortable sheepskin slippers a few years back and they’re finally ready to be replaced. Just go to the shopping section and search for “sheep” or the store where you bought them and there’s your result.
Once you find those sheepskin slippers, tap “Buy Again” and you’re taken to the Amazon page with the matching product number.
Slack Stacks Slack is often called “the email killer” - well, we just might save email’s life. You’re welcome, email. Slack Stacks let you add a Slack channel as a “Stack” inside of Alto, preserving all of your most important Slack conversations in a single place.
You can view daily digests, or real-time conversations, and even take action from within Alto.
AppleTV Authenticate Alto via a QR code on your Apple TV, then see your photos stack on the big screen.
Alto Ninja Insanely powerful advanced search capabilities, coupled with group actions. Example 1: Find messages between Feb 2 - Feb 15, starred, from Jenny. Example 2: Find unread messages from Isobel that are starred between 2015 and 2016. On results: Move to folder, un-star, mark as read, etc.
Tumblr media
Enhanced Compose View Special sketch mode to add a sketch into the message body. Add background images to emails.
Are there features here that you wish were part of the Alto product? Are there other ideas you have and want to request? Please comment below, or email us at [email protected] and we will happily review your ideas and hopefully make those email dreams come true at our next hackathon.
