There will *definitely* be more finished art from this episode, but I'm still wrapping my brains around Lita and Maeve being blonde. It actually spoiled some of the first hour for me, lol. Of course, once we got to Orym's mum, I was a very happy camper. C-POP toys?? Wow.

Take of the day: I want to know what Jenny Scott Kenway is actually like. We only really see bits of her in Haytham's journal, and his perspective is so incomplete and kind of garbage honestly. I want to know what kind of female rage she holds when she has all that Kenway conviction, but received none of the same opportunities, freedoms, or respect as the men in her life. She was raised alone by her mother, presumably in poverty, after her father forgot she existed. Her younger brother got a private education and let in on the 'family secrets', while she was auctioned off into marriage as part of a business deal. She was kidnapped, sold to slavers, lived as a concubine, and was only rescued some twenty years later when Haytham just so happened to think twice about it? I would be beyond murderous if that was my life.

I want to see a lady who is just as cunning and oscillating as Haytham, but for all the right reasons. She'd be elegant and snide and absolutely vicious and I adore her.

Who are your favorite literary cheaters? What are your favorite books with messy adulterers?

I meeeean lol I will always maintain that while the other books do not involve cheating, American Queen by Sierra Simone IS a cheating book because Ash and Greer are together and panting after each other but also panting after Embry separately (and Embry is just running around in circles Very Confused Right Now). I mean, the Mistletoe Scene (GOD. LEGENDARY. ICONIC. NEVER OVER IT.) is very much treated like cheating. As it should be. Because it was. And I. LOVE. That moment. One of my favorite moments in romance.

Not full adultery (and everyone's bar for cheating is different but I would say this is most definitely cheating even if everything gets taken care of pretty quickly after) but Elijah and Aidan's passionate makeout in Saint (also by Sierra Simone) while Elijah is engaged to a perfectly lovely Other Guy always gets me. I mean. Aidan was also cheating on God. (And his brother ALSO cheated on God in Priest! Those Bell boys.)

The Day of The Duchess is the one that is the most straightforward "these two were in love and in a committed relationship and one of them strayed and it was Bad" book. And I love it. I love Haven. I love how horrible he was in the book prior to his; I love that he has to do legit Penance. I love that there is a huge time gap in between the cheating and the reconciliation because like--time doesn't heal all wounds, but I think that time apart in which both parties do their own thing is VERY beneficial for certain relationships when this happens. I don't know, I think this book is just so daring.

Waking Up with the Duke by Lorraine Heath will always be my favorite where they cheat with *each other*. And yes it's complicated because like, they were given permission to sleep together by her husband, but they were NOT given permission to fall in love and do Fun Stuff. Yet they did.

Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt is also so fun, though lol lbr, Hero was NOT in a real relationship with her fiance.

Masquerade balls always seemed like something out of fiction for Jenny — existing only in the world of romcoms and supernatural television and fantasy novels as a dramatic backdrop to spice up a plot. Not something meant for her mundane life. So when she heard her neighborhood was hosting their own ball for Halloween, it felt only fitting that she don a costume from one of those fictional worlds, hoping the stark red of her dress blended in with the 'bloody' aspect of the vampiric theme of the night.

In line with those fictional worlds, she always thought the 'not recognizing anyone' thing was simply a dramatization for the movies. Yet, as Jenny scanned the crowd from her spot near the event's bar and struggled to discern her friends from strangers, she was quickly realizing there was a lot more truth to the notion. Gnawing on the straw of her drink, she leaned over to voice her thoughts to the man nearest her. "You're totally not recognizing anyone here too, right? That's not just me? Because I really thought the whole Clark-Kent-mask thing was fake before this."

straight writers should be banned from using and killing queer characters for others’ development

Hey guys, I finished reading Blade Braker last night (or this morning, depending on how you look at it) so I posted the things I had my drafts bc I wanted it to be clear that I’m not a hater. I was genuinely enjoying the book. It was going to be one of my favorite books ever. But I also wanted it to be clear, I’m not a VA fan anymore.

You see, when I read that last chapter, my heart sank, my stomach hollowed and I started getting a horrible migraine. I get too invested in books, that’s on me. I take responsibility for the way I interact with media. But I think creators should take responsibility for the way they use certain narrative elements as well. Such as depicting a sexual orientation, and what does it mean for the story. 

It was a perfect book, so why did VA think depicting as queer a character that was written to be killed off from the very beginning was a good idea?

I cannot comprehend it. At first I tried talking myself out of the betrayal I felt, thinking “Well, this is what she was trying to do! cause pain to the reader” But the more I thought about it the less I could make excuses for VA. Ridha was barely there. If she wanted us to care about her PoV she should have written her better, given her more scenes, literally anything else. Instead she’s treated like an afterthought, and her sexuality like something to “spice up” the narrative. There’s a reason we have a name for the infamous trope: Bury your gays. 

Ridha, the only PoV with the insinuation of a gay storyline, was used for a cheap death that didn’t even have to happen. The previous chapter was a shocking, gut wrenching conclussion to a perfect book. Still, VA wanted her second book character death, wanted the heartbreak, but wasn’t willing to part with the other two characters who would have made sense to die. Dom’s death was hinted at  numerous times through the book and readers would have been devastated. Andry’s death would also have been devastating. And frankly, he and Dom are basically the same “depressed, morally self-righteous, noble man” archetype. There’s no reason to keep them both. Except, of course, you have to keep the straight ships. You have to.

Before I read it, I had theorized Ridha was going to be the one to kick the bucket because she was expendable. When Lenna showed up, I thought I’d been wrong. Surely now, in this book, it would be Ridha’s time to shine. I, a wlw reader, finally had a character for myself. My own expectations and the precedent set by other media are what made her ending so horrible. Not because of great story crafting, but because it’s so beyond distateful.

Sapphics keep dropping like flies in stories. 

I guess, what I want to say is: If the character is going to die after being a mere prop for other characters’ arcs, that’s totally cool! Just don’t fucking make them gay too. We’re tired of dying over and over and over again. It’s a fucking nightmare.

Lastly, don’t use this as an excuse to go and send anon hate to the writer. If some of you have the energy to have a respectful conversation, go ahead. I know I don’t have it.

not me sitting here glaring at the lack of micro level development in Fire & Blood trying to figure out what to do for Abrogail. The marriage to Erwin makes sense for Corrynna (even though we technically don’t know how he’s a Lannister, IDGAF). While the odds of Erwin become Lord of Casterly Rock are INCREDIBLY slim, and with Corrynna being from a minor house, it’s a good match because her father is Hand of the King, the Strongs are a super good family, good marriage choice. etc etc.

(If Larys is going full Littlefinger vibes here - Arguably you could say that either the twins are killed off during the war so Erwin becomes Lord, or their children marry into that direct line)

After Rhaena's death, the lordship was granted to Ser Bywin Strong, the brother of Ser Lucamore Strong of the Kingsguard.

House Strong held Harrenhal throughout the remainder of the reign of King Jaehaerys, and throughout the reigns of kings Viserys I and Aegon II Targaryen. Following the death of Lord Lyonel Strong, along with his eldest son and heir, Ser Harwin, in a fire at Harrenhal in 120 AC, the lordship passed to his younger son Lord Larys Strong, who continued to hold the title despite losing the castle temporarily to Prince Daemon Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons.

So here’s some issues:

1. After Lyonel and Harwin die, Larys is Lord of Harrenhal. Because he’s on the Council, he can’t be there. There’s nothing stating he gets married, so

2. Do we assume then that Corrynna and her husband go to take care of Harrenhal? Does Larys plan to pass the castle to her children on his death? What’s going on here? Because this entire show is about inheritance laws and it seems like every region/culture has their own inheritance rules.

3. There’s no mention that after Daemon (The Blacks) captures the castle he kills everyone (I’m assuming on behalf of his stepchildren). BUT THEN When Aemond (The Greens) retake it, he kills everyone BUT Alys Rivers.

Re: Alys Rivers. Plot wise it’s just ‘Harrenhal is cursed, lets give it to Alys, lets not look too deep into it’ (it’s not like GRRM was thinking show things, F&B is just him having fun with world building stuff and I appreciate that). So I’m GUESSING we’re meant to assume that Alys is using her weird magic and bewitched Aemond to kill the rest of the Strongs there?

So Aemond goes to take Harrenhal. Larys is for the Greens. Killing every other member of House Strong (and I’m assuming there aren’t that many) is... a weird choice when you look deeper into it because the Strong family have declared for the Greens (regardless of Rhaenyra’s oldest son biologically being a Strong, but legally and on paper, he’s a Targareyn).

So are we meant to assume that Larys’ sisters both died then as well before having any children? The only mention of them is that they were there in King’s Landing. No mention of names, if they too died with their father and brother, etc. And how does Larys deal with that because sorry, it’s fucking WEIRD if he goes ‘welp it’s all good that you killed the rest of my family even though we’re on the same side’.

Claire brought up that Harrenhal is cursed, this all fits vibes, I agree, but now I need to figure out how this situation works. Because down the line,

What is Larys’ motivation? What is happening? WHAT

(also why the fuck is Alicent ALONE. She should have ladies! Her sister in laws? Nieces? Cousins? this is why Abrogail is Alicent’s cousin cause fuck that)

What are the Bad Kids' favourite Death Grips projects? (Fantasy High)

I've been having a blast watching Fantasy High: Junior Year, and I have also been relistening to a lot of Death Grips' discography. So, like I do with most of the fandoms I'm in, I'm going to guess what I think each of the Bad Kids' favourite Death Grips project would be. I will give reasoning for each one, but be warned that they are almost completely arbitrary.

Adaine Abernant: n-ggas on the moon

While on one hand I feel like Adaine would find some of the band's heavier albums a bit startling, I think she'd love n-ggas on the moon. It's got this whimsical atmosphere that I think a wizard would really vibe with, and I can see drunk Adaine wilding out to the more high energy tracks like Have A Sad Cum BB and Billy Not Really. Not to mention she'd have a great time deciphering what are arguably Death Grips' most cryptic and mysterious lyrics. This is a party wizard album for sure.

Fabian Aramais Seacaster: Fashion Week

As we all know, Fabian indulges in the finer things in life, and I think his taste in experimental Sacramento-based hip hop would be no different. Fashion Week is the closest Death Grips has ever come to luxury and I'm sure that would attract a young Seacaster. He's totally the type to brag about how refined his taste in music is, evident by how he chooses one of the band's more obscure, instrumental projects over the mainstream slop that is The Money Store. As for the music itself, I feel it's perfect for some wild interpretive dance, and I think Fabian would agree. I can already picture him doing some crazy sheet dance to Runway E.

Fig Faeth: Jenny Death

Jenny Death is the heaviest album in Death Grips' discography, almost acting as fully fledged psychedelic, punk metal album, so I can't imagine why Fig wouldn't adore it. The loud, abrasive guitars, the hypnotic production, the drums that practically punch your ears; it all just screams Fig to me! I mean when I saw the band live the songs from Jenny Death were easily the ones that caused the crowd to go completely wild, and we all know Fig loves a wild crowd. Even the names of the songs are perfect for her: I Break Mirrors With My Face In the United States, Centuries of Damn, Beyond Alive, and The Powers That B all sound like they came right from the Archdevil's own mind.

Also yes, I'm aware I missed an opportunity to assign her Bottomless Pit, but these are the sacrifices I make for accuracy.

Gorgug Thistlespring: Exmilitary

For a barbarian drummer, I can see no better fit than the band's debut mixtape, Exmilitary. This mixtape is so raw and primal, I mean the drums sound like war drums. We already know that Gorgug loves heavy, intense music, so I think he'd totally rock with this. I also think that the tape's unique, grinding production would appeal to his artificer side; it's a perfect mix of rage and technology, and I can imagine him blasting something like Takyon or Guillotine as he hacks through some enemies.

Kristen Applebees: Government Plates

For someone who's constantly riddled with feelings of doubt and confusion while also maintaining a general aura of weirdness (affectionate), I think Government Plates is a good pick for Kristen. It's the kind of album that you have to sit down and listen to a couple times before you really vibe with it; it doesn't want to be understood, but that doesn't mean you should stop trying! Not to mention the pure emotional intensity of tracks like You Might Think He Loves You... (I'm not writing the full title.), Two Heavens, and Bootleg (Don't Need Your Help) suit Kristen very well imo. An underappreciated album for an underappreciated character.

Riz Gukgak: No Love Deep Web

And for everyone's favourite little weirdo is what I consider Death Grips' certified weirdo album (They're all weirdo albums, but this one especially so). Though my reason for choosing No Love Deep Web as Riz's favourite Death Grips project isn't because of the music itself, but rather the history surrounding this album. If you didn't know, this album was released through a secret Alternate Reality Game on the deep web where fans had to solve incredibly cryptic puzzles over a few days in order to gain access to a link that allowed them to torrent the album, and I think that Riz would be all over that shit; I can imagine him setting up a little cork board with all of the clues and whatnot strung up. I don't even know if he'd even like the music, I think he's just invested in the mystery!
