S2.E4: Tibb’s Eve and Newfoundland Christmas Slush
Season 2, Episode 4
Title: Tibb’s Eve and Newfoundland Christmas Slush
Time: 52 minutes
Locations: Terranceville
Story: Rockyfoot
Guests: The Duds (Melanie O’Brien and Philip Goodridge); Jeremy Whey (aka @stuffthatinyourgob)
Listen:
About The Episode:
Part One: What is Tibb’s Eve?
For me, and a lot of other Newfoundlanders, the 23rd of December is Tibb’s Eve. It is Christmas Eve Eve and the unofficial start of the holiday season.
For some people, Tibb’s Eve has become synonymous with a good time, full of partying and alcohol. The connection with drinking is so strong that, for some people the day is known as Tipsy (Tip’s) Eve.
In this episode we did into it a little and chat about Tibb’s Eve customs. To help me out, The Duds (Melanie O’Brien and Philip Goodridge) discuss their connection to the day and what lead them to record their holiday track ‘Before the Night (Tibb’s Eve’).

Part Two: Newfoundland Christmas Slush
I’ve celebrated 40+ Christmases in Newfoundland and, until surprisingly recently, I had no idea ‘Newfoundland Christmas slush’ — a fruity, frozen cocktail — was a thing.
It is though. For a lot of Newfoundlanders the holiday season would not be complete without this batch-made cocktail.
I reached out to food blogger/instagrammer Jeremy Whey (aka @stuffthatinyourgob) to discuss his history with Christmas slush. He shares his recipe and variations he’s tried. From there were drifted to dark/light Christmas cake, moose stew, salt cod and other Newfoundland food traditions.
You can follow Jeremy on Instagram at @stuffthatinyourgob.
Here’s his slush recipe, as shared in the episode:
Jeremy’s Newfoundland Christmas Slush
1 cup sugar
6 cups water
2 cans of frozen concentrated orange juice
2 cans of frozen concentrated lemonade
1 large can pineapple juice
1 flask of vodka
Boil the water, stir in the sugar. Add the remaining ingredients and freeze. To serve, scoop slush into a glass and top with as much 7-Up or Ginger Ale as you’d like.
You can find some recipes for alternate versions of Christmas slush here.
Jeremy and I confessed that some of our Christmas baking efforts have been less-than-successful. We used the word ‘dunch.’ It occurs to me that non-NL listeners may be less familiar with that word. Here’s a link to the definition in the Dictionary of Newfoundland English.
And here’s the recipe I mentioned for my mother’s dark Christmas fruitcake. I’ve had great success with this one — nothing dunch about it.
Part Three: Monstrous Things
Normally ‘Monstrous Things’ features tales of Newfoundland sea monsters that have been reported in the mainstream media. This episode, is taking a different tack and veering into the realm of full-on legend — with tales of boo-baggers, boo-darbies and a strange Christmas creature called Rockyfoot.
What do they have in common?
Like Krampus and Santa Claus, they’ve all been used to encourage good behaviour in children.

cannot wait for Jeremy to be the first one to ever touch Jean tenderly. lacing their fingers together and kissing him like he’s the only person in the world that matters. letting him have a say in everything they do or don’t do. Jeremy brushing his fingers through Jean’s hair and reminding Jean that it’s ok to stop at any point. whether it’s first base or second or third. Jean finally being shown the respect and affection he should’ve been given from the start. Jean being able to erase the memory —slowly, it’ll take time— of teeth sank into his neck and the taste of “whey protein and oat milk.” Jean being loved without question.

Citation Page for Blood In The Water
I did a surprising amount of research for this so here's where I got a lot of my sources:
The title comes from The Golden Raven, page 616
Jean was sent to Grayson on the fourth night: The Golden Raven, page 616 (It's my personal headcanon that Grayson hurt Jean so badly that he's the reason he stopped fighting back on the fifth night)
Grayson liked to make Jean kneel: The Sunshine Court, page 181
Luke, Martin, and Ellison. Riko specifically has the male backliners break Jean in: The Sunshine Court, page 180 and The Golden Raven, page 616 Ellison is mentioned by name, and implied to have gone just before Grayson, in the Golden Raven, page 616 Luke and Martin are listed as backliners on the wiki. They're also mentioned in The Raven King, page 257 but their positions aren't noted.
Jean is not allowed to say no to anything the Ravens do to him: The Golden Raven page 615/616
Grayson tastes of whey protein and oat milk: The Sunshine Court page 181
Jean was not allowed to speak French in the Nest: The Golden Raven, Page 62. The Raven King, page 266
The defense racquets are wooden according to the wiki
Phil is a Edgar Allan striker, according to the wiki. He's also mentioned in The Sunshine Court, page 80, though not his position.
Grayson's stats: The Sunshine Court, page 182
Grayson nearly dislocates Jean's arm during his night: The Golden Raven, page 617
Riko ties Jean up with racquet laces, which are not meant for human skin: The Sunshine Court, page 14
Grayson bites Jean in multiple places (Jean says Grayson is "a biter" and I took this to mean multiple places. Plus when he attacks Jean in TSC, he bites his wrists as well): The Sunshine Court, page 181
Grayson bites Jean specifically on the junction of his neck and shoulder: The Sunshine Court, page 288
Ellison brags about his night with Jean: The Golden Raven, page 616
The Ravens made Jean beg for more and say that he liked it: The Golden Raven, page 615/616
Jean has had oranges and kiwis in the Nest: The Golden Raven, page 110
Grayson ran his hands through Jean's tears: The Golden Raven, page 616
Grayson makes Jean beg, specifically saying "You like this, right? Ask me for more": The Golden Raven, page 616
Jean's begging seems to "fuel Grayson's hunger": The Golden Raven, page 617
The Ravens make up their beds with tight corners: The Golden Raven, page 623
Cameron: Cody Winter's cousin, which is mentioned several times and I straight up forgot until I was looking for a different reference and stumbled across it
Jean cries so hard he nearly pukes after Grayson: The Golden Raven, page 617
Jean keeps Zane up half the night, sobbing, after Grayson: The Golden Raven, page 617
Zane, as a male backliner, was in the room when Riko offered Jean up: The Sunshine Court, page 180 and The Golden Raven, page 616
This isn't really an official citation but in The Golden Raven, page 752, Jean flinches and lurches backwards when Jeremy leans forward unexpectedly to kiss Jabberwocky, who is sitting in Jean's lap. This frightened reaction to someone leaning in towards Jean's lap is what inspired the blowjob in Blood In The Water, Chapter Four

FNAF AU: Renegade AU Chicago Location
Tumblr media
https://www.deviantart.com/paigelts05/art/FNAF-AU-Renegade-AU-Chicago-Location-866670265
Published: Jan 10, 2021
TW for mentions of fictional charaters with depression and fictional character suicide in the charater descriptions of the two charaters in the bottom right. °•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•° The reason whey I've not been able to redraw the drawing of all of the main guards together is the same reason why this was a pain: when I draw all the main guards together, I always feel like I am going to mess one of them up. I messed up a lot here, but I managed to recover some of it in the linework and later down the line. And for the one instance where even the linework was bad, I redrew it and glued the paper over the bad one - one blank layer of paper to cover the original, and then the redrawn one glued over that. And then, I just redrew the two that I realised looked bad on the sheet below, cut out the two, and glued the two sheets together. Now it looks a bit neater too, dispite all the glue. Here we have PT, Krasnyy Guy, Mike Schmidt, Fritz Smith, Jeremy Fitzgerald, Vincent Taylor, Daniel Discord, Sami Fern, and Ryley Fern. You probably already know the top six characters, but you may not recognise the bottom three. The leftmost is Daniel Discord. I've drew him a few times, and he's the manager and boss of the Chicago location. The only two people above him within Fazbear Entertainment are Adelaide and William. His entire life has become centred around providing William with information regarding electrical ghosts and trying to prove that the location isn't a failure, as electrical ghosts are useful to them. Now the other two, bottom middle and bottom right, have existed in my AU for a while, but I've not posted a drawing of them here yet. One illustration of the rightmost existed on my Deviantart, but I took it down as the comic no longer represented the AU properly as the personalities of all charaters involved have changed. These two are Sami, the janitor, and Ryley, the security guard. These two have been through a surname change and a massive plot overhaul since the start. Whilst they both still were orphaned in a car crash at 10, rendering Sami mute, her brother is no longer depressed as that no longer works for his story and would falsely tie up too many loose ends regarding his death. Instead, Ryley is a skilled tracker and a solid friend of Mike's. He has a carefree nature, and only works at Freddy's part time, but part time is enough for him to do enough digging and find that the corpses were not inside the suits anymore, and more than enough time to do a little more digging to find the true location of the corpses. Just before his shift for the night begins, he finds this location in person and confirms his suspicions, but his boss finds him and gives him an ultimatum: if he (Ryley) lives through tonight to tell the tale of where the corpses are, he (the boss) will send his best to kill his (Ryley's) sister. The only way for his sister to live would be for him to die. The method didn't matter, and as the animatronics weren't moving, even at 5 am, he had to do something. But that's a story for another day. Sami has also been through some changes. Now, she's cold, but only kind to her brother, and after the car accident, has suffered from chronic pain. She may seem rude, but she can't help that she's always gritting her teeth and scowling. Whilst she'd love to make friends, resent bread resent, she seemed cold so she became cold.

When to drink protein shakes for muscle gain
Drinking protein shakes for muscle gain is a popular approach to gaining weight and building muscle. However, there are some things to consider before starting a shake-based diet.
 What are protein shakes?
Protein shakes are a great way to boost your muscle gain while following a healthy diet. Protein shakes can be made with milk, protein powder, and other ingredients. They can be a great way to supplement your diet and help you reach your goals.
How does protein shakes help with muscle gain?
Protein shakes are an excellent way to increase muscle mass and strength. Many people believe that protein shakes are crucial to muscle gain. However, this is not always the case. In fact, a number of factors should be considered before drinking a protein shake to ensure that it will help you achieve your goals. Here are four things to keep in mind when drinking protein shakes for muscle gain:
 1.     The type of protein you use is key. Whey protein is the most effective because it contains all the essential amino acids and has a high-quality protein content. However, other proteins, such as casein or egg, can also be effective if mixed with enough water and flavored with fruits or vegetables.
2.     The amount of protein you consume is also substantial. Most experts recommend drinking about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight each day. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you need about 30 grams of protein daily.
3.     Timing is also critical when drinking protein shakes for muscle gain. Most experts recommend drinking them before or after workouts to help improve your workout performance and maximise muscle growth.
4.      Finally, make
What are the benefits of drinking protein shakes for muscle gain?
There are many benefits to drinking protein shakes for muscle gain. One major benefit is that they can help to increase your muscle mass. Protein shakes are a great way to supplement your diet and ensure you get the right amount of protein. Additionally, protein shakes can help to boost your energy levels and help you to stay hydrated.
When should you drink protein shakes for muscle gain Sports Nutrition Brand in the USA ?
When it comes to gaining muscle, timing is everything. You should eat plenty of protein throughout the day, but you also need to make sure you're consuming the right type of protein to maximize your results.
That's where protein shakes come in—drinking them before and after workouts can help to spike your muscles with essential amino acids, which can help to increase muscle growth.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind when drinking shakes for muscle gain:
- Make sure the shake contains enough protein. A typical shake containing 20 grams of protein will provide the equivalent of about three servings of regular protein foods. If you're looking for a more substantial meal replacement, aim for 30 grams or more per shake.
- Choose a high-quality brand. Cheap shakes won't provide the same level of benefits as quality products. Look for brands like Optimum Nutrition, Combat Sports Nutrition, or Universal Nutrition.
- Drink plenty of water with your shake. Protein shakes are high in calories, and thirsty muscles will tend to consume them quickly -- which can lead to weight gain! Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily when including protein shakes in your diet.
How to make a protein shake for muscle gain Genetic Edge Compounds ?
When it comes to muscle gain, protein shakes are a top priority. But which shake is best for you? And when should you drink one? The answer to both questions is different for everyone.
Protein shakes are your best bet if you're looking to pack on size and strength quickly. "Protein synthesis is greatest after a protein ingestion in the range of 20-30 grams," says Jeremy Blau, MS, CSCS. Aim for around 30 grams of high-quality protein per shake to maximize muscle gains from shakes. This means choosing lean protein sources like chicken, fish, or soy over beef or eggs. Additionally, make sure your shake contains enough carbohydrates and fats to help fuel your muscles.
Regarding timing, drink your shake post-workout for the most impact. "Protein synthesis peaks about two hours after exercise and then slowly declines," says Blau. "Therefore, consuming a post-workout protein shake has a greater anabolic effect than consuming one before or after the workout." This means that you're giving your body the best possible chance of building muscle by drinking a shake right after working out. Just beware:
 Conclusion
Drinking protein shakes for muscle gain should be done in conjunction with a balanced diet and regular exercise. By eating a well-rounded diet and exercising regularly, you will see the greatest results in muscle growth. However, if you want to add a supplemental source of protein to your regimen, drinking shakes can help increase your muscle mass and improve your overall fitness level. Make sure to drink plenty of water while consuming protein shakes to stay hydrated and maximize their benefits  sports nutrition brand  Genetic Edge Compounds

Note
I may regret asking this but...what is the second thing that happened that you just posted about? Is there more than what happened at SDCC? I'm on the side of kindness and not hating, but I'm just curious what I missed.
Oh no it’s not about anything at the SDCC, it’s about past things that people disagreed about how bad they were. And then when things at the SDCC happened, they were like “so we were right!”
Like... of the top of my head, what Melissa said when asked about Mon-El,
“That relationship especially, you know, I don’t think Kara’s ever felt anything like that before. So it’s really important, I think, to her advancement as a woman and her growth to, uh, try to balance that with being Supergirl and her career that she cares about, you know, and following her heart.”
The supposed erasure of her feelings for James was a separate issue (One which I also disagreed with. Kara’s connection with Mon-El is gonna be deeper by default, because she was actually in a relationship with him. And she’s saying this is the first time she’s gotten this deep. The party line from the show has has been that Mon-El is her first real relationship, and thus first time she’s felt this much, but people were interpreting it to mean the first time she’s had feelings for anyone.)
But the issue people took with this quote was that she said that Mon-El helped her grow as a woman. They singled out the part “So it’s really important, I think, to her advancement as a woman” and left out the part where she tied it back into how Kara has to balance things. So she was really talking about how it all helps her grow. But if she had been talking about how her first relationship helped Kara develop, I wouldn’t consider that??? a big deal????
People were ‘canceling’ her.
Plus I think it’s important to note that she continually has brought discussion of Kara’s relationship with Mon-El back to Kara as an individual person as much as she can.
And then there’s how people decided that Chris was as bad as Mon-El because he ships Karamel, and after his sarcastic ‘sexuality is about what other people think you are’ (paraphrasing) thing, whey were like “see, we were right!”
But the list of his ‘transgressions’ includes:
Not recognizing the massive issues in the relationship he and his girlfriend portray on tv
Expressing bitterness at shippers for reading characters as gay (which, as it has been pointed out to me, likely indicates toxic masculinity in response to being ‘accused’ of being gay as a theatre kid. Same deal w Jeremy.)
It’s does not include:
Slave ownership
Ignoring his girlfriend’s explicit and reasonable wishes
Sexist refusal to trust Supergirl’s ability to do her job
Anything Mon-El has done
There’s more, so much more, because sections of the fandom react like the sky is falling every three days, and I disagree with their reading of what happened 90% of the time.
It’s like the boy who cried wolf, except when the wolf finally actually comes, the boy goes “See! I told you the wolf was coming!”

Rustic Canyon – Santa Monica
The last time I ate at Rustic Canyon was in 2011, when Chef Evan Funke was serving up drippy burgers on Monday nights. It wasn’t until I picked up a copy of On Vegetables at my local library that I was reminded of the restaurant recently.
After zipping through Chef Jeremy Fox’s thoughtful forward and skimming some of the recipes, I immediately made dinner reservations for two. I wanted to experience firsthand the cooking of an ambitious chef who had finally found peace and balance in a professional kitchen. I hear it’s a rarity…
The Astronomer and I secured a sitter and made the trek to Santa Monica on a Saturday night. We were greeted with warm smiles even though we managed to arrive 30 minutes late for our reservation. The Westside is always further than I think it is.
The first dish was a fun take on the classic wedge salad. In place of iceberg lettuce was an array of endive, while the ‘nduja breadcrumbs and egg bottarga roughly approximated bacon bits ($18). A blue cheese dressing, blue cheese crumbles, and pearls of pomegranate rounded out the plate.
The duck ham on rye ($19) with preserved kumquat and salted spruce, essentially an open-faced sandwich, was as thoughtful as it was delicious. The citrusy puddles delighted with each bite.
The pozole verde ($21), one of the restaurant’s most popular and long-running dishes, was brimming with local mussels (four or so, but who’s counting 😉), hominy, radish, and tortilla chips. Is there anything better than tortilla chips soggied with soup?
The monotone ricotta gnudi ($22) with white beech mushrooms and Neal’s Yard Coolea cheese was comforting but unmemorable compared to the other dishes on the table.
Stuffed with burrata and prettied with pomegranate seeds, hazelnuts, and sour honey, the stuffed Delicata squash ($18) made for a hearty main course. The edible skins were as delicious as our waiter promised.
For dessert, a most delightful Vahlrona chocolate pavlova ($13) with espresso, mascarpone, and hazelnuts…
… and an apple hand pie ($13) with whey caramel and almond frangipane. I trust anything sweet that comes out of Zoe Nathan’s kitchen.

Roger, o insólito canguru bombado, morre aos 12 anos
O canguru morreu.
