“Ssh, ssh!” Nie Huaisang whispers, eyes wide and bright. He can barely do it, trying to stifle his giggles so they won’t leak through, and Wei Wuxian laughs.

“Who’s gonna catch us?” He grins, leaning in and pressing a kiss to Nie Huaisang’s nose. “Everybody’s in class.”

Nie Huaisang doesn’t protest that, leaning up to press a kiss against the other’s chin. “Our brothers are gonna kill us,” he says mournfully, even as he kisses his boyfriend’s chin a second time. “You’re never making it back to Lotus Pier.”

Wei Wuxian snorts, pressing a kiss to his temple now. “Jiang Cheng doesn’t scare me,” he says. “And your brother won’t kill you, he’ll kill me. I'm a bad influence.” He looks very pleased at this idea.

Nie Huaisang doesn’t know how much of that is true, because he feels that yes, his brother would absolutely kill him for skipping class to go kiss against some rocks in Gusu, but there’s not really arguing that when there’s better things he could be doing. “You’re not scared of him?” he asks, because his brother tends to intimidate most people, and he presses a kiss to Wei Wuxian’s neck.

His boyfriend considers. “I haven’t met him,” he says after a moment. “So I don’t know.”

Before Nie Huaisang can offer up anything in response, to note that no his brother might not be scary (he’s not! He could never be actually scared of his brother) but that he will NOT be happy, Wei Wuxian goes in to kiss his lips – finally.

There’s a kiss, a brush of the faintest lips against lips, and-

“Wei Wuxian?” calls a familiar voice, and he whirls around and oh god, Lan Xichen is standing right there. The older teen blinks at them both. “Huaisang?” he asks, startled, now spotting him as well.

“Oh, no,” Nie Huaisang groans. “Please don’t tell my brother.”

Lan Jingyi: What is the wildest thing you have ever done?

I.. do a lot of stupid shit.. but probably this last summer i went camping with my family, a few friends, and my then gf and my friends, gf, and I all went out to the ghost town that was a 10-15 min walk away and explored around 12-2am jfkdsfjsd

the reason it’s crazy is mostly that the ghost town is on a cliff and it was pitch black, as well as there being a lot of uneven ground and the harbor being right there without good fencing fjksfjd... lots of opportunity for us to hurt ourselves all to ghost hunt and then play bandori in the dark while stealing the visitor center’s wifi

Jin Xi likes it when it rains.

He doesn’t like it when it storms – when thunder andlightning crash, when the sounds and the lights are too much, too much! Thatjust makes him cry until Mom or Father or Dad comes and scoops him up and holdshim until he stops, lets him hide his face until all he can hear is the thump,thump, thump of their heartbeats and soothing whispers and their warmth.

But rain? He likes the rain.

He sits on his little chair and watches it. Listens. Itdrips drips drips, drops drops drops, and he closes his eyes. It makes himthink of Mom. Of her holding him, listening to the thump of her heart and thedrip of the rain and the quiet words she says, the stories and how much sheloves him.

Jin Xi… really misses Mom.

He screws up his face and he counts as high as he can go totry to stop himself from crying because- because- it would make Mom really sad,if she knew he was crying, and he’s… he’s not supposed to cry, Father said, andeven if Father and Mom aren’t here right now, he… he…

Dad walks in as soon as the first tear slides down hischeek. “A-Xi?” he says, quiet, his voice a familiar sound and then he’s holdingJin Xi and wrapping him up in his arms and he can hear the thump of Dad’sheartbeat and he starts crying.

He can’t- He can’t helpit, it’s too much too much and he shakes, burying his face in Dad’sshoulder and crying crying crying while Dad murmurs nonsense words, holding himholding him and squeezing him so tight he can’t hear the rain and that. Makesit better, somehow.

Dad holds him and keeps him warm and blocks out the noise ofthe rain with the squeezing and his heartbeat until the tears finally fade,until Jin Xi is so tired he can’t cry anymore and then Dad’s arms relax. Heturns his head a little, so his ear rests on Dad’s chest and not his face, andDad sweeps a gentle hand through his hair. “A-Xi?” he asks, quiet, always soquiet. “Can you hear me?”

It takes him a moment. A moment to think and to process andthen he nods quietly. Dad touches his hair again, rests his hand there. “Whatwas wrong?” he asks.

Dad likes to ask that. Father never did. He always got alook in his eye that Jin Xi saw but didn’t understand – he doesn’t understand alot of faces people make, a lot of looks in eyes, but the one that Father hadis one he hasn’t seen in anyone else. Jin Xi tried to make it in the mirror,once, thought if he could make it in the mirror he could show it to Dad andunderstand what it means, but he hasn’t managed it yet and he doesn’t think hecan.

But Dad always asks. Mom sometimes did, depending, andFather never did, but Dad always likes to ask that even if Jin Xi doesn’talways have an answer.

The grip Dad has on him is relaxed enough to move his arms,so Jin Xi pulls them out so he can clumsily sign. “Mom,” he signs, and that’senough for Dad to understand and squeeze him again.

Jin Xi wishes he could see her. He… doesn’t get it, notreally. He wants to. He wants to see Mom and he wants to see Father and A-Lingand Uncle and he misses them – but he can’t.

It’s not safe, Mom had told him, and that’s why he came tolive with Dad.

He likes Dad. Faintly remembers him from before he was Dad,when he called him something else, but he can’t remember what that was and itslips from his mind before he can really form it.

“A-Xi,” Dad says, and Jin Xi tilts his head just slightly sohe can look at the bottom of Dad’s chin. He pulls out a fan and taps Jin Xi’snose with it, and that makes him smile even though his eyes are still kindawet. He grabs for the fan with one hand and Dad lets him grab it, wrap his handaround it even though Dad makes the kind of fake face like he’s mad but Jin XiKNOWS is fake, and he giggles.

“Let go,” he says, fake mad, and he wiggles the fan in hisgrip but Jin Xi knows this game and grabs on with his second hand and shakeshis head and soon they’re doing a crazy game of tug-of-war, back and forthback-and-forth until Jin Xi manages to yank it away with a grin.

He opens it, hiding his face behind it like Dad does andblinks rapidly at him and Dad giggles too and leans in to press a wet kiss tohis forehead, so Jin Xi wrinkles up his face and wipes it off. He gives him anormal kiss after that, not wet, and Jin Xi doesn’t wipe that one off.

“Do you want to paint with me?” Dad asks. “You can paint apicture for your Mom.”

Jin Xi thinks about that – but he doesn’t really have to think about it. He likespainting with Dad, or writing poems together, and he hops off of his Dad’s lap,not letting go of the fan, and offers Dad his other hand. He’s very helpful andhelps yank Dad to his feet, who pulls out anotherfan and flutters it with a “Thank you, A-Xi!”

Dad takes his hand in his own, bigger than Jin Xi’s but nottoo big, and they go to get the painting supplies. He’ll paint a beautifulpicture for Mom, something she’ll want to keep with her – and maybe he’ll paintone for Father, too. Jin Xi doesn’t write letters to Father, not like he doeswith Mom, poems and codes and secrets, but he thinks Father must miss him, too.

But he’s here with Dad, for now, and even if he misses them…Jin Xi flutters his fan, just like Dad, and smiles up at him – Dad smiles back.

He’s happy.
