Time for me to go crazy mode and explain why I think these two dogs were gay asf
(Ps. I’ve mostly only seen the anime, however im working on reading the manga- which yk, is hard bc theres no official eng translation that i know of-)

Jerome was the first and ONLY dog to show any kind of sympathy or empathy or kindness towards P4/Kaibutsu. He kept him company and tried to distract him from his pain, when everyone else willingly ignored him and his screaming. Kaibutsu literally says that Jerome was the only thing that gave him hope.

During his escape, Jerome is the only one he doesn’t kill (at least, the only one he doesn’t try to kill). He even explains that he couldn’t bring himself to kill Jerome, even when he was sent to track Kaibutsu down and kill him.

And although he claims he’d kill Jerome now,

He doesn’t. Even when Jerome’s quite literally got Kaibutsu’s heart in his jaws, he doesn’t kill him. They still fight, and you could say its just because if he pulled Jerome out he’d die, but I don’t think thats his only reason. Especially considering Jerome lets go at some point due to being so exhausted from the fight. He could’ve killed him then, he could’ve also let him fall to his death when they were both almost knocked off the cliffside. But he doesn’t.
From all that I can at least gather that, yes, they were friends. And that at the very least, Kaibutsu loved Jerome.
The real question is: was it reciprocated?
Well it’s pretty clear Jerome also considered Kaibutsu a friend. Spending days on end for several years talking to someone through a vent, describing the cherry blossoms and the weather, reassuring him that everything will be ok; not exactly something you do for someone just because you can. Also, I think Kaibutsu’s death changed Jerome’s feelings on humans, at least a little bit. And as the saying goes or whatever, to be loved is to be changed (or to love is to change, idk idc)
When the humans show up to check out the scene and collect their dogs, Jerome doesn’t go with them. In fact, he yells at them to leave. He’s angry and grieving. Assisting in his best friend’s death is the last thing (as far as im aware ofc) Jerome ever does for humans. His stance used to be that, as man’s best friend, its a dog’s duty to do/endure whatever their human wants. However, after Kaibutsu’s death, that seems to change (at least i think so). While he doesn’t act outwardly aggressive to humans, he also doesn’t just let them do whatever anymore and fights back when he has to.
Tldr: these dogs are tragic lovers to enemies🫵

I’m coming up with a storyline for them because I’m really getting into this crossover idea.
Right now the way I edited this- it was originally meant for Jerome to rescue Snufkin which would be halfway in the story I’m creating but it kind came out as Snufkin being a unintentional threat to Jerome and the others. So I’m sticking to that second version. beginning of the story, this is how they come across eachother.
#work in progress ;-;#jerome is gonna be slightly off canon but not by too much#shin moomin#snufkin#moomins#ginga densetsu weed#gdw#silverfang#jerome#crossover#au

Ginga mentioned on my dash & I'm thinking about when I was a kid and convinced my mom to order me merch off of Futago Shop or whatever. And I had to very awkwardly explain to her why the Hiro blind box figure description detailed a dog biting another dog's balls off.
If I remember right, I ordered the GDW soundtrack CD, a few manga volumes, and the uhh. Kyoushiro, Kaibutsu, Mel, and Rocket blind box figures? Maybe Weed too, I'm not sure anymore.
#also shoutout to the fact I got a Jerome plushie for 70 bucks that sells for like 200+ bucks normally lol#I also have the English volumes 1 & 2 of GDW that I found at my first anime convention ever#those things were like my holy grail.

Did... did they mistake a Tibetan fox for a German Shepherd?
I only just now discovered the Tibetan fox and was immediately reminded of SillyGinga's Jerome memes.
Did Studio DEEN just randomly find this face somewhere and redraw it as Jerome? 😂 Somebody mentioned the Tibetan fox looks like a taxidermy gone wrong, so this means Jerome looks like one too... first they messed up John and turned him into a horse and now this.

I'm not a big anime watcher, but GDW is one of my favorites, so for that last reply, I'm definitely channeling this scene with my Alastor as Jerome teehee. Just a little sneak peek at some of my inspiration LOL.

Doing a Last Wars reread, might post some more thoughts.
Spoilers ahead.
While Monsoon ends up being pretty pathetic, I think he starts out rather nicely. He takes Ouu by surprise and causes massive damage to their key players and distrupts any kind of strategy they could come up with.
Yoshi forgot how old Hiros kids are, and how many pups Lydia and Jerome had, lol. Maybe I'll headcanon they had a second smaller litter, and it was 3 of the older pups that got killed. (Lenov, Akira and the other one.
I like that Hiro sacrifices himself for Gin. I don't like that Hiro is dead, but its a nice drawback to GDW (Might of just been anime only? I dont remember) that becuase he lost his own father, he goes out of his way to protect his "new father" - the father of Ouu.
Kurotora is agressive as fuck but hes pretty useless in his old age
"Paradise has fallen" is one of my favourite pages in all of Ginga. Its just cool.
I like the Cross took the pups to safety at Daisukes house. But wasn't that village destroyed/uninhabitable from the events of GDOrion???
Gin should of dropped Orion over the cliff in GDO.
I'm all for having a protaganist that doesn't do what hes told and does his own thing, but they usually grow and learn from their mistakes (while keeping their "ill do it my way") and Orion...literally doesn't.
Bob is pathetic baby man.
Chapter 49. The beginning of the awful sickle saga..... It is nice that the dogs recognise they have better chances with a human weapon, like how they had better chances with Gohei's gun in GNG.
Kyou and Rocket literally forgot about Ken lmao poor guy
Uhh it was George/Jouji who couldn't save Minnie from the River not Ken? Chapter 60 makes it sound like Jouji gave up on watching Minnie and Ken had to go save her but couldn't.
"He was a teacher and guide to Tesshin in place of his father" Tesshin was raised by Ouu not the Koga Elder....I do like how Kurojacki and the Koga pack came to collect The Elder as he died. I would say living to 31 is a stretch to any normal dog, but look at Bobi the dog who lived on a farm in Portugal.
I like Zion, he's an okay addition to the Ginga gang, but its sad hes not really his own character, just a translator. And all he does is follow Sirius around because ""family""
I'm half with Sirius, half with Orion. Bears and dogs can/could co exist on the mountain, but like....thats regular bears. Bears who are just being normal bears. Monsoon and his brothers started a war with Ouu. There is a big grudge against ALL bears with Ouu, but perhaps that could of been left buried.
The last page of C72 is really nice.
Here comes to infamous sickle battle. Its mine! mine!!! mine 1!!! It would of been better if the dogs kept the sickle moving intentionally...to keep Monsoon guessing who has it next and keep him confused rather than squabbling like children over who gets a turn on the xbox
Everyone is desparate to become an "Ouu legend." Ouu has become nothing more than propaganda.
Sasuke should of died tbh.
I do like how the humans are taking action this time. They didn't do much in Akakabuto's time, but now they recognise the same thing is happening again and they are ready to help.
Akame should of died. This was a GREAT spot for it. His death should of been the last straw for Orion/Sirius. I'll forever HC that he died here lol.
It's sweet that Cross takes care of Tesshin, she did raise him along side her pups afterall.
"He's just as intense as his grand father, Riki!" Orion is nothing like Riki?? Orion is a brat. He was given control over an army just because of who his family is. He's never earned anything, not even respect. He's spent the entirety of the manga arguing and disobeying orders from those higher up than him who he's suppose to ""respect."" He's had to be bullied into not doing anything stupid while the army recovers. He is keeping a promise he made, but doesn't excuse his tantrums.
The way Monsoon acts sometimes reminds me of that baby from Spirited Away.
It is nice that hes different from Akakabuto. he has PTSD/Flashbacks, wants to get revenge and eat all the dogs that hurt. Scared of humans and tries to play around it. Akakabuto kept out of the humans way but didn't hesitate to turn them to paste if he found them in the mountains. Monsoon doesn't even try to attack humans. He has conflicting feelings.
Thats it for stuff on Sff Reader, ill have to go to Fantas blog to read from 121-end

Ginga 30 Days Challenge - Day 5:
Emotional Scene:
Assuming this means my favorite emotional scene, I’ve decided to go with Kaibutsu’s flashback, mainly the anime version. As dumb and bad as the GDW anime is most of the time, there is actually some things it did better than the manga. While the flashback wasn’t really changed, the music and gorgeous art style of episode 5 really made this scene memorable.
This scene isn’t just emotional because of the abuse Kaibutsu’s suffered, but also because of how Jerome ultimately betrayed Kaibutsu with false promises and a lecture that basically boils down to, “Dogs have a duty to be a plaything for humans, and they should take abuse”. I really do wish Kaibutsu had somehow managed to survive. I’m not excusing the murders of all the dogs and humans he killed but if Weed was so willing to let an ass like Hougen walk free, where the fuck was the mercy for Kaibutsu, huh? He was listening to the backstory too wtf

Yes I just traced again, but this time I did it for the purpose of doing a little design study and not a fully rendered drawing
I've always noticed that Jerome's facial markings in the manga were a bit different from his markings in the GDW anime, so I made a comparison between the two. The differences are VERY subtle, but they're there
Also note I did not make this to bash his GDW anime design or anything, I just wanted to make an observation of the differences between the two mediums

I feel like Thunder begging Dappled Pelt to heal Leaf could work if it was framed as him being so terrified of being cruel like his father, that even when he nearly kills someone out of self defense it's terrifying to him. Sure, it's self defense now, but what if he has to kill again? Clear Sky said he was just defending his cats, or himself, all the time. Is he no different, even in this moment where it's justified? Of course we're supposed to think Thunder is wrong for fighting in a life or death situation so. :/
I think it 100% could have worked in any other situation. If it was a border patrol that attacked them? It would work excellently and display Thunder's differences to Clear Sky as a character. That he has compassion, even for people who attack him, even for people as horrible as Leaf (known bully).
My gripe with it is that it's literally a life-or-death battle, this crazed, chaotic crowd of screeching, clawing, dying cats, and he has time to HALT and call for a medic, and for that medic to hop on over as if she shouldn't be prioritizing her own friends. Because god forbid Thunder defend himself against a murderer and kill someone in the process
Thunder even has time earlier to cry that Tall Shadow merc'd a guy who was attacking him, and then Shaded Moss moseys out of heaven to be like "uhhhh fuck you in particular, Tall Shadow, for killing someone in defense of your friend during the Murder Party. Who Are You To Judge Whose Life Was More Valuable"
As if she wasn't thrown into a crowd of cats trying to kill her unprovoked because Clear Sky wanted to make Gray Wing "watch his friends die." And then the whoooole narrative pivots to try and imply everyone was at fault for this totally 'unavoidable' battle, even though we just read 3 books of how this was completely Clear Sky's fault and everyone was desperately trying to handle him with kid gloves
There's a couple of good ideas under there, but like... they are really not worth the garbage piled on top
#I haven't seen commitment to nonviolence this ridiculous since GDW#but this time there is no Jerome for me to hoot and holler and root for#Weed: ''make sure you dont defend yourself in war because that makes us Just As Bad''#Jerome: ''i have killed 2 assassins who were going to reveal our position''#Weed: *evaporates*#Not that it lasts in DOTC though. Nonviolence is only for people the narrative arbitrarily decides are Good Actually#One Eye doesn't get to count because he manhandled Clear Sky or something#dotc hate
