Bad Day - (Arizona Robbins x Fem!Reader)

It was the worst surgery I've ever been in. Nobody was focused. I was doing all the heavy lifting. It was a nightmare, and Richard wasn't helping me when I clearly needed it. Now, because of them, my patient died. Today can not get any worse.

Now I'm sitting with my back against the wall in the nurses' office area.

"What's up, Sunshine?" I hear Arizona's perky voice ask.

I look up at Arizona, whose face saddens once she sees me.

"Zona," I mutter, but before I could continue, she sits next to me and pulls me into her arms. Her warmth gives me such a sense of safety, I sob, with my head resting on her shoulder.

"Hey, hey," she speaks with comfort and awareness in her voice. "It's okay, Sunshine. It's okay."

Once my crying stops, I sit up and look at her. Her arms still around me, we stare into each other's eyes for a minute, but it seems like a lifetime. I lean in, until I realize what I'm doing. Then, I pull back in time.

"Oh my gosh. Zona, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to," I say.

She starts giggling. "It's okay. Believe me, it's alright," she says before she presses a short but sweet kiss to my lips. "I've wanted to do that for a while," she says, smiling at me.

Her pager beeps before I could say anything. "Oh, I have to go. I'll be as fast as possible. Then, I am taking you out for a night you won't forget. I'm going to turn that frown upside down. I promise, Princess," she says.

I smile and nod my head in approval.

"Wow," I say under my breath.

"You're okay?" Meredith asks looking down at me. She must've been passing by.

"Yeah, I'm... I'm okay," I say before getting up to start walking with her.

A few I put together in my head while driving, a few after seeing her in concert, a few on her birthday this past year, and a few after watching her documentary (multiple times) snuggled up with a daughter (or three).

Her deep and wide talent for songwriting (& poetry) and its ability to feel wild and measured at the same time is always included. My awe at her work ethic and how she seems to work as hard as anyone l've ever seen or known is always included. Her generosity and kindness in person and in real life when there are no cameras and no one is watching is always included. Her understanding of just how much music can affect change in things and in people is always mentioned.

Taylor, you are lighting up the world with your very particular and unique brand of magic. I am so grateful to have your music blasting out of so many rooms in my home. I feel every word when we drive around with songs blaring from the car while screaming/singing. I love that your lyrics put together all of the most vulnerable and powerful pieces that make up the whole of living. And what I love the very most is the deep and unending love and devotion that our girls feel for you. It is a beautiful thing to watch the inspiration, courage and HOPE that you give them on the daily. So, thank you. You make it look easy but I know that it is anything but. Thank you for being you and for sharing yourself with all of us.

Jessica Capshaw is checking back into Grey Sloan.

The actress, who spent 10 seasons playing Dr. Arizona Robbins from 2009-2018, is returning to reprise her role in the upcoming 20th season of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Capshaw will be joined by Alex Landi, who returns as Dr. Nico Kim, and franchise newcomers Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares as guest stars in the milestone season of the Shonda Rhimes-produced medical drama. Additional guest stars are expected to be announced as the show inches closer toward its strikes-delayed return on March 14 at 9 p.m.

Capshaw exited Grey’s in 2018, at the end of its 14th season when Arizona moved from Seattle to New York so her daughter, Sofia, could be in the same city with her other mother, Callie (former series regular Sara Ramirez), as the fan-favorite former couple “Calzona” appeared poised for a reunion.

Capshaw was written out alongside Sarah Drew (April). Both actresses have since returned to Grey’s as the series has made it a point to provide closures for some of its most beloved characters. At the time of their exits, producers said their departures were creative decisions, though sources maintained both Capshaw and Drew attempted to negotiate a higher payday together.
