All Jedi Force Healing (JFH) works according to the principles and limitations laid out in their philosophy. The Force does not grant eternal health any more than it offers eternal life. A Jedi must never attempt to wrest control over death. They must love, and learn, and let go.

ALL JFH techniques:

Require the practitioner to cultivate and maintain a singular intention to help their patient for the duration of the healing. This means providing aid in forms other than healing if they are more relevant to the patient. There is no meaningful separation between helping via healing, and helping via other means.

Interact with the will of the patient. It is impossible, via JFH techniques, to heal someone who does not want to be healed.

Have injuries and illnesses they cannot treat. This is especially likely to be the case if a patient could not naturally heal given the best mundane (non-magical) means.

Do their best work in collaboration with mundane medicine.

JFH techniques DO NOT:

Draw on the "life force" of either the healer or the patient. Instead, they work on the lack of meaningful separation between a healed and un-healed state, and the subjective meaning of health.

Physically exhaust the practitioner in any way. That said, the related physical or emotional labor may be tiring.

Permenantly prevent death or aging, though they may alleviate some of the symptoms.

Losing the Ability

There is at least one example of a Jedi losing the Ability to heal in canon. The main way this occurs is when a practitioner loses the ability to consistently maintain their sole intention to help their patient. This is a more difficult thing to cultivate than might be expected. It must be a focus on aid to the exclusion of other desires, like control, pride, or even the desire to be able to heal the wound. Meditation is an essential step in preparing for healing. It is not uncommon for master practitioners to remind learners, "Help or do not. There is no healing," and variations of the phrase. Meaning therein that the healing is incidental to the actual practice of JFH, and the helping is what is truly essential.

Losing the ability to perform Force healing in this way can can be a sign a Jedi is in great distress and losing their way, but it can also be a sign of a positive or neutral change of focus.

Other reasons a Jedi might be unable to perform JFH include not having/losing the ability to maintain intense focus, a lack of needed anatomical knowledge, attempting to heal something outside the realm of possibility, or trying to heal someone in a way they do not wish do be healed.
