A/n: dearest anons, i always see the requests you send in unless they get eaten by my ask box (which i think happens more than i'm aware off sometimes). i'm also more than happy to add more installments to this fic as well as other TROS fics i have written in the past upon request in the future if you guys request them.

The moment Changwook’s face popped up on the tv as he was drinking his cup of coffee sitting across the table from you the hosts of the show went wild. Apart from the fact that he looked like a million bucks even with his wild and out of control bedhead and was still trying to wake up, they were freaking out over your unannounced appearance. From the start of your relationship with the well-known actor, the two of you had tried and succeeded to keep your identity private and hidden. In fact, some people had the tendency to forget that he was even married until he casually mentioned you from time to time when talking about how you helped him prepare for different roles or, most recently at least, your three year old son who had begun providing him countless stories to tell that had people in stitches at his silly little antics.

Given that information, many were stunned yet equally excited at the announcement that he would be appearing on ‘The Return of Superman’ with his family - especially given the privacy that was clearly valued. Yet there sat the two of you giggling and looking equally tired as you chatted over those two cups of coffee one hand from each of you resting on the table, his thumb rubbing circles along the back of yours as he held it.

“I almost don’t want to go,” you admitted silently. “I feel guilty just leaving him.”

Changwook nodded as he understood your predicament. Since the birth of your son, you’d taken a backseat at the law firm you were a partner at. The both of you made the decision to raise your son as best as you could with the two of you around, even if it meant decreasing your caseload and him taking less roles than before.

“The two days will go by faster than you think,” he assured you. “You’ll be back home in no time.”

“It’s just, it’s the first time I’m leaving him alone with you for more than a few hours. What if he thinks I’m not going to come back? That I just got up and left?”

“It’s only natural to feel that way when you’re around your child all of the time,” one of the hosts sympathized. “She’s a good mom.”

The other host nodded, “My wife felt the same even after we had our youngest. It’s hard and one feels a lot of guilt when leaving their kids whether it’s to work or even for the show. I feel that way too.”

“He’s not going to think that,” Changwook said firmly. “He loves you and knows how much you love him. He also knows that you have a really important job that helps other people. Trust me.” he looked at the time displayed on the stove and let out a small sound. “You’ll be late for your flight if you don’t leave now. I know how much the meeting with the clients means to the firm. Go out there and kick some butt Attorney (y/l/n). And come back safely.”

His words seemed to help ease your worries as you finished the rest of your coffee before getting up and heading to your bedroom - the cameras also showing it for the first time revealing the still asleep figure of a small boy panned out like a starfish on the bed. You bent down placing a kiss on his forehead before hesitating to pull away, your hand caressing the plump skin of his chubby little cheek. Changwook was directly behind you, placing a reaffirming hand on your shoulder and squeezing it.

“Come on,” he whispered softly. “You’ll really be late.”

The two of you left the room with you sniffling slightly as you went to the front door of your home. You wiped away the tears before your husband pulled you into a tight hug pressing a kiss to the top of your head, pulling you closer by the second not wanting to let go before finally pulling away. Placing a sweet kiss to your lips, he whispered something inaudible to the countless cameras and mics before pulling away, seeing you off, before rushing back inside at the sound of your son calling out to both of you in a panicked tone.

Changwook sat in front of the cameras with his son clinging to him tightly as he continued sniffling from the nightmare that awoke him quite rudely. His small hand was clenched into a fist balling up the fabric of his shirt. Both of the boys wore similar bedheads. As best as he could, Changwook bowed, greeting the viewers. 

“Hello I’m actor Ji Changwook and this is my three year old son Ji Subin,” he whispered for the little boy to wave at the camera only for him to turn away hiding his face in his father’s chest. “He’ll wave later…maybe…he’s quite the character as I believe you’ll come to find out.”

The writer asked a question to which he immediately smiled, “Ah, the wife. We’ve been married for a little over five years but have been together for seven. And as many people seem to have found out, she is a partner at a very prominent law firm in the city. As for when and how we met, that’s quite a controversial question for us. I argue that we met back in elementary school, second grade in Mr. Cho’s homeroom class, my wife would argue that we met eight years ago when she took a case for the company I was signed to at the time. She actually turned me down a few times in both instances when I asked if we could date - although dating as adults is much different than ‘dating’ as little kids.

“We actually discussed whether or not to join the show for a while before deciding to do so. While we were dating and more so after our son was born, we doubled down on keeping this part of our lives out of the limelight. We didn’t really want Subin to grow up with this spotlight on him at all times, but we’ve watched the show for a while now and even if it means giving up a bit of our privacy, we want to make memories with him and felt that coming on the show would not only allow us to, but also make sure that never lose the footage and watch it years from now.

“So yeah, thank you for the opportunity to be on the show and I hope you all enjoy seeing our family’s shenanigans.”

True to his word and Subin’s own reputation, everyone soon found out just how chaotic this little family of three could be. And it all began when the father son duo had decided to make lunch. Changwook knows he can’t hold a candle to your cooking skills - a given based on how much of the soup powder he dumped into a pot of cold water with the stove not having been turned on, followed by the soup burning because he didn’t stir it once he did turn on the stove, and the paper towel roll catching on fire while he listened to his Subin talk animatedly about the ‘case’ he was going to win - but he tries, even if has to end up ordering in because whatever he did end up making was not edible.

“Mommy’s taste better,” Subin replied with no hesitation when Changwook gave him a spoonful of the soup he’d made. “”Mommy makes good soup.”

Figuring that his son’s words meant it wasn’t too bad, Changwook took a bite and cringed at the taste, “Yeah, Mommy makes better soup. How about we have some bibimbap.”

It was easy enough to make and didn’t require much skill until it came to actually feeding the small boy who tried his hardest not to eat any of the vegetables in the bowl. He ate the fried egg first, followed by the meat that was mixed in with the other ingredients, and finally after eating no more than two spoonfuls of rice - that didn’t have a speck of green in it, he said he needed to go to the bathroom.

“Subin’s on what my wife calls the ‘white diet,’” Changwook explained, arms crossed over his chest as he spoke during the interview. “If he even sees a speck of green he won’t eat it. We’ve gotten better at introducing foods to him, but he still has an order that he goes in when eating foods he isn’t sure of. First he goes for the proteins and meats, then the grains, and before he gets to the vegetable he says he needs to use the bathroom. We’re slowly getting better though…”

“At least he got him to eat something,” the host complimented. “And by using food that is familiar to him to introduce new ingredients into his diet they are making progress.”

“Maybe we’ll see development in Subin’s palette during their time with us and Changwook’s cooking skills,” the other added with a chuckle.

“I hope we see some development. I don’t want to witness a kitchen bursting into flames again!”

Pre-Joseon Sageuks: a Biased and Incomplete List

So, as promised way earlier, a post on pre-Joseon sageuks that I’ve either watched or plan to watch so am aware of them. I am sure there are others but here is what I got. Obviously my takes on them are subjective blah blah blah.

Jumong - arguably the Daddy of all Traditional Sageuks, this one ran for over 80 episodes and had insane ratings. It follows the rise of the mythical founder of Gogureyo tho it takes fantastical elements of his story and changes them for historically plausible ones. It’s very long and very meaty and politics/battle heavy and has a large cast of complex characters (including pretty nifty women and a LGBTQ supporting OTP) but it is anchored by the incredible performance of Song Il Gook as the titular character as he slowly but believably grows from nothing to a hero if at the cost of losing his marriage.

The King of Tears Lee Bang Won - this is basically a half and half beast as (you can tell by the title), it’s set in the last days of Goryeo and early days of Joseon. The time period covered is the same as in My Country and Six Flying Dragons, but this is the most traditional take of them all, even more so than 6FD. Not a single pretty face in the cast (tho Joo Sang Wook is a mighty fine man, emphasis on “man”), this is for the real fans of traditional sageuks. I enjoyed it a lot but if you want to check out pre-Joseon sageuks but have mainly watched youth sageuk stuff before, you should probably start with another drama on this list.

The Great Seer - set in the reign of King Gongmin, the last proper king of Goryeo (his son King U is technically the very last but there are questions as to his status), this is for those of you who want to watch Ji Sang in a sageuk. It’s centered around seers but don’t expect mysticism, this knuckles down to politics.

Shin Don - hi there, another story set in the reign of King Gongmin! From the title, you can tel it centers heavily on the powerful monk who ruled for the King at one point. This has been on my to-watch list forever because this appears to devote a decent chunk of its time to Gongmin X Noguk and I am dying for a proper drama for those two. This is from 2005 so if you do watch, keep that in mind in terms of visuals etc. That cast is lit!

Bicheonmu - this is sort of cheating because it’s pretty much set in China but it involves Koreans so. It’s a drama take on the same story told in a pretty awesome movie. Tragic love, battles, young Joo Jin Moo etc. i am very fond of it. This said, find and watch the Chinese version, Korean one was shredded.

The Iron Empress/Empress Cheon Chu - set in Goryeo, this was another of women ruler centric dramas that had a mini popularity peak in late 00s/early 10s (a trend I wish continued.) it got overshadowed by Queen Seonduk but by all accounts is a solid drama. It’s on my list but I haven’t watched it yet.

The King’s Daughter, Soo Baek Hyang - by the writer of The Rebel and My Dearest. Have I got your attention? Another woman centric ruler tale set in Baekje. Yes, there is a love story. That cast is great, to boot. I have started and liked what I’ve seen but got sidetracked. Need to get back to it. Before you look at the ep number and faint seeing the number 108, keep in mind that the eps are half an hour long so it’s an equivalent of a normal 54 ep sageuk so if you can watch eg Empress Ki, you are good with this.

My Country: The New Age - Lee Bang Won but make it gay. OK, I kid, sort of (not really) but this is smart and passionate and heartbreaking. If you want a wide scope or lots of politics, probably not a take for you (Six Flying Dragons is RIGHT there), but if you want an intense, emotional tale, come right in!

Six Flying Dragons - to me, this is THE drama about Lee Bang Won. It’s smart and emotional, deals with politics and has heart. It has a large cast of characters I got invested in, OTPs that will blow your mind etc etc.

Faith/The Great Doctor - if you are a fan of old school shoujo like Red River, Basara or Fushigi Yuugi, this or Moon Lovers are your best bet on this list. A time traveling tale with other fantasy elements about a modern day plastic surgeon who ends up being kidnapped into Goryeo during the early days of King Gongmin’s (hi!) reign by a tormented, oath bound warrior played by Lee Min Ho at his hottest (and playing historical General Choi Young. Do RPS at your pleasure), this one is one of my all time favorites.

Seodonyo/Ballad of Seo Dong - I am actually currently watching this one tho I haven’t been posting about it. Set in both Baekje and Silla, this is an angsty love story with a side of politics. It’s filmed in 2005 and looks accordingly but if you don’t mind dated visuals, this is pretty great!

Emperor of the Sea - set in Silla and Tang, this was a huge hit and deservedly so. Our protag is a slave and gladiator and a great naval hero. This is grim and smart and epic. It’s from 2004 so once again, if dated visuals are no-go, skip, but if you want a great story and performances, this has your name on it.

The Kingdom of the Winds - an epic cursed prince narrative, our ML (Song Il Gook at his sexiest) rises from abandoned prince and slave and abused assassin to general, royal and king, sparing time for an angsty delicious love story with an enemy princess. This has serious sageuk bits AND the best shoujo tropes in the business, plus enough whump to keep anyone happy.

Gye Baek - Lee Seo Jin, another sageuk stalwart, stars as the title character in this tale of a Baekje commoner, war slave and general. This is grim but glorious.

Soldier/God of War - this is a traditional war-centric sageuk and grim as hell. Another slave to general tale.

King Geun Chu Go - this is on my watch list; it’s about a warrior king of Baekje. Haven’t seen it but heard good things.

Ja Myung Go - smart and unrelentingly tragic, featuring Jang Ryeo Won and Jung Kyung Ho as doomed lovers and Park Min Young in an evil role, this is great and has deeply flawed characters in the very definition of doomed by the narrative tale.

Arthdal Chronicles - this is obviously a fantasy but the tale of prophesied twins, magical priestess, wars and mysticism is clearly set in a pre-Joseon in terms of aesthetics world.

Alchemy of Souls - like Arthdal this is pure fantasy but also like Arthdal, a lot of its styling is pre-Joseon so on this list it goes.

Moon Lovers/Scarlet Heart Ryeo - ok I think if people have heard of only one drama on this very long list, it’s probably this one. Modern time traveling heroine ending up during the reign of Goryeo’s King Taejo, in the middle of his sons’ fight for the throne, having an epic but doomed romance with shoujo catnip tortured bad boy Lee Jun Ki.

Shine or Go Crazy - if you want a more historical take on Moon Lovers succession fight but still with plenty of hotness, angst and doomed romance, come right in. This baby stars Jang Hyuk, so you know it’s bound to be good. I actually started it and enjoyed it but got sidetracked. Need to get back to it. Fun fact: while Moon Lovers was hugely popular internationally, domestically Shine or Go Crazy (they aired around the same time), did much better.

The Legend/The First King’s Four Gods - for a long time this was my favorite kdrama of all time and is still probably in my top 10. Ignore the odd first episode, the rest is perfection. Expensive and wonderfully written, this was Bae Yong Joon’s last drama before he retired to rest on his pile of money (if you are young, you probably don’t remember what a big deal he was, bigger than all the Hallyu stars nowadays put together. He basically was singlehandedly supporting the kdrama industry at one point), but what a worthy way to go out. It’s an epic Goguryeo fantasy tale of a prophesied prince coming into his own, with such amazing characters and relationships and OTPs and battles and points about destiny versus free will. It is everything and I kinda want to rewatch now.

The Blade and The Petal/Sword and Flower - ostensibly a star-crossed Gogureyo love story, this really is more about politics. It’s a mixed bag. The visuals are insane but Uhm Tae Woong, while always solid in modern dramas, is out of place in a sageuk (in QSD Kim Nam Gil stole his thunder; there is nobody to do so here but that doesn’t help him.)

Queen Seon Duk - probably the most famous entrant into female power sageuks, this was a mad hit and centered on the titular character’s rise to power and fight for the same with her female nemesis Mishil. If you want love stories, angsty fighter Bidam propelled Kim Nam Gil to stardom as he stole the leading man mantle from Uhm Tae Woong.

Empress Ki - currently rewatching this. It’s set in the waning days of Goryeo but takes place mainly in Yuan. Still, the FL is Korean and a lot of the story revolves around one of her suitors’, a deposed Korean king, attempts to get his land back. As you can tell by my rabid posts, this is a great drama - politics, romance (I ship FL and the Yuan emperor like mad), murder, dysfunction and everything good.

Hwarang - it’s so brain dead it might as well be a brain-eating amoeba in drama form but it did give us both Park Hyung Sik and Park Seo Joon before they made it big in drama world. It’s terrible tho, stay away.

River where the Moon Rises - I have such a love/hate relationship with this drama - I loved the beginning, with our tormented assassin heroine slowly being warmed by the loyal rustic ML with his own trauma. And then Ji Soo’s bullying scandal happened and he was replaced by Na In Woo, aka the actor I like least from any country in all my close to two decades of watching dramas. I tried but I simply couldn’t and I am still mad. This said, if you don’t share my NIW allergy, it’s probably worth a watch.

The Great King’s Dream - if you liked QSD and can’t get enough of the period but want an even more traditional tale, you can do worse than this drama. I liked what I saw but this baby is 70 eps and lacks Bidam so I peaced out. Maybe I will get back to it sometime, but probably not.

Jeong Do Jeon - as you can tell by the title, centers on JDJ and the last days of Goryeo. Not really my bag (time period been done plenty in other dramas and I don’t have that much interest in JDJ) but supposed to be solid.

My Only Love Song - a short silly mess but still probably better than River (which tells the same story) because it doesn’t have NIW.

King Gwanggaeto the Great - 92 eps. I can’t!

The King Loves - delicious love triangle (that goes ALL ways), angst, prettiness, a side of bodyguard romance. What’s not to love in this Goryeo tale?

The Forbidden Love I Love

I realized all my favorite ships and pairings are from a "they were not supposed to fall in love " trope. All from a tv series, too. It doesn't matter if they were the end game. They just clicked and their story were damn epic and memorable.

Here are my top 3 couples in the last 20 years

Tommy and Grace from Peaky Blinders (British)

Top 1

Never had a thing for Spy x Gangster love story even on books but this one hits different. All major thanks to the actors who made is so fookin believable. Annabelle Wallis and Cillian Murphy. Both were perfectly casted. To hell with haters. Chemistry on Fire. Epic tv series but mind you, very dark, too and disturbing. Yet it has a haunting, heart wrenching beautiful love story. It makes you forget, the show is not a love story but because of these two, its a freaking ode of a Mob Boss who fell in love with a an enigmatic undercover and who moved heaven and earth grieving and trying to move on. They ended up together, short lived though tragically he is still in love with her even in the after life.

Emperor Ta Hwan and Empress Ki (Tanyang couple)- Empress Ki (Korean)

This was my number one until PK came along but this still holds a very special place in my heart. Still the better show than PK and still has my favorite kissing scene of all time in this underwater scene. A magnificent korean tv series, with numerous awards and all star cast. Ji Chang Wook and Ha Ji Wony favorote korean pairing, ever. The 50 episodes were nothing short of incredible. Based loosely from a real Empress Ki. An epic, powerful portrayal of sad, another tragic love story with war, madness, politics, ambition and power at the forefront. My forever top Koreanovela. Very Top Notch!

Lana and Clark - Smallville (American)

In the movies, its always Lois Lane but here, nobody can deny Kristen Kreuk and Tom Welling were pure magic on screen. It made a fandom war because Lana was supposed to be this highschool crush only yet here I am one of the "Clana"warriors lol but for 8 seasons, their love story became a star crossed one. They had so much depth and made it through more but yeah, got to stick with the comics. Still, devastatingly beautiful yet tragic and their chemistry was also insane! To this day, Smallville for me is Clark Kent and Lana Lang.

A/n: i do have a reaction of him find out that reader is pregnant so you guys can read that here if you want a recap of his reaction which will explain some of his actions in this headcanon

Early on in the pregnancy, maybe shortly after finding out

Changwook is still quite unsure of whether or not this actually happening

It wasn't planned

But he didn't mind

Even if he was shocked

Which is why his initial tone of uncertainty changes so quickly

Once it fully settles in his mind that you are pregnant

With his child

Your first child

Together

He's on top of everything

The more taxing chores, which he did his best to do before, are now completely off limits for you

He always checks in on if you need anything on his way back from work

Or if there's something he can get you so you don't have to get out of whatever comfortable position you were finally able to find

During the more intimate moments where it's just you and him

Either sitting on the couch watching something

Laying in bed getting ready to call it a night

Waking up early and just admiring you

Watching you do something in the kitchen

His eyes never leave you or your lower abdomen

He notices the way your hand caresses the bump that at first is nonexistent and as it keeps growing and growing

He doesn't hesitate to let his eyes linger on you

Honey dripping from his eyes as he admires you for everything your body is doing

For the indescribable beauty that seems to radiate from you in a different way than before

His hands always seem to make their way to your bump in this moments holding it and caressing it just as you do

And when he has the chance, he gently lays his head on it or beside it as your fingers rake through his hair while he has a little conversation with his little one

Or sings to them

But even in these moments, he's plagued with the thought of not being a good father

His dad died when he was younger so he can't deny that he has no idea what he's doing or is going to do

Did his dad experience these moments when his mom was pregnant with him?

Is going to be able to be a good dad?

Will he screw it up and end up being an incompetent father?

Will history repeat itself?

And those worries aren't kept to himself

He raises his worries and you do your best to reassure him that everything will work out because at the end of the day:

He is the only person who is capable of raising his child, even if he may be the most incapable parent

And as your due date nears, he's filled with nerves of excitement and fear

The entire time you're enduring the pain brought upon by bringing your child into the world, he wishes it could be him so you could rest

So your body wouldn't hurt and bleed the way it does

But he also admires the bravery you possess and is at your beck and call throughout the 14 hours it takes for your little bundle of joy to arrive with a good set of lungs crying into the air

Tears streaming down his face he places kiss after kiss along your sweaty hairline thanking you over and over again expressing his love for you and how incredible of a person you are

All while your newborn daughter/son rests on your chest finally calm

Which brings us to him as a dad

This little girl has his wrapped around her/his pinky

He would do anything for her/him

But he's also strict - more so when she's older and needs to be disciplined

That's not to say it doesn't break his heart every time tears well in her/his eyes when she/he gets in trouble

He's a good partner to raise a kid with

He doesn't leave you to do it all alone

Child rearing is his job as a father and husband too

He has no problem taking her/him out of the house for a few hours on days when he knows you need some time to yourself in order to recharge

And he takes initiative in doing things that interest her/him even if he isn't good at it or is the only dad at that cooking class for kids

Does anyone else remember the paper towel burning and his quick reflex in Youth Actor Retreat?

He slowly grows into his role as a parent little by little, but it is the most natural thing in the world to him

And he realizes that while yes, he was right about worrying over being a good dad, it was just as you said, he was capable of being a good dad

And he has you to thank for it

Because he wouldn't be able to do it without you by his side supporting one another through it all

It is worth mentioning that with your first kid he's on edge

It's a learning curve, but with your second, he has a better feel, even if he finds that needs to change a number of things to better suit your child's needs

First time our MLs meet and all that is running through my head, is "gentlemen, you will be a sharing a woman soon enough." (Sadly seriatum and not a MFM situation,it's a kdrama :P)

Honestly, the amount of times Togon gets manhandled is epic. And I both get why WY wants to strangle him and feel terrible for Togon, who gets zero genuine care from anyone, at the same time. He's clueless and arrogant and also very very young and very very helplessly alone. Also, everyone in this cast has mad chemistry with everyone else and I catch myself thinking that Wang Yu x Togon could be pretty interesting. (Wouldn't be the first time JJM played a Goreyo king into pretty pretty men.)

I totally get why WY says and thinks that but jeez, the number it's got to do on Togon's psyche that literally everyone either wants Togon to die or only wants him to live because it would be inconvenient for them otherwise. Literally nobody gives a fuck for him himself (not even his monster mom as we will see later.)

Honestly, this is 100% my favorite Ji Chang Wook role because honestly on paper Togon could be a hell of an annoying character and certainly not the show stealer. I mean, Wang Yu is traditionally heroic. Togon is not. But even this early on, when he's immature and weak and etc, he's so fun to watch and I genuinely just feel for him.

CHAPTER ONE : ON THE RUN

He dreams of her. Of Padmé, his fiance. The scalding heat of Tatooine bears down on her, which causes her cheeks to flush a rosy red. Anakin peeks from his truck, the dry wind ruffling his unkempt hair. He sneaks a wink and blows her a kiss. In return, Padmé turns away from the negotiating politicians before her, sending him a scolding glare.

He blinks, and she is gone.

Anakin wakes to the sound of a gunshot echoing in his ears. He gasps and grunts, holding down his injury, bandages long since soaked in blood unable to absorb any more liquid. The hotel he rented is old, the white paint had chipped off at the corner of the room and it is even dirtier now that he had blood spilled about the room.
