neat parallels from this week’s leaks

1. a chunk off the left part of torsos.

though unlike toji, yuuji is a jujutsu sorcerer, just as he proclaimed in a moment of self-actualization in the last panel of this chapter.

2. the passing down of duty/will onto yuuji.

and kenjaku a couple chapters down, too.

inheritance is such an interesting aspect of yuuji’s character, kenjaku notwithstanding. yuuji, a child, and the concept of blood family and found family (another geto-yuuji parallel methinks…).

3. “i’m a cog.” —> “i’m a jujutsu sorcerer.”

there hasn’t been a clear stated distinction between what being a “cog” and what being a “jujutsu sorcerer” entails in yuuji’s perspective, but this is growth, if i’ve ever seen it. there’s more weight—more meaning—in saying, “i’m a jujutsu sorcerer,” than, “i’m a cog.” there is a sense of duty and a will to embody it, not just a come-what-may attitude.

after sleeping on it, i want to reiterate what a close friend says about Jujutsu Kaisen after I vented my frustrations to him last night cause it was so profound and made me see everything that's happening in a new light:

there's a theme and the characters are being used to communicate that theme. the whole series yuji has been transforming into a person who only thinks of others and not himself. nanami died because being kind isn't enough to give people a good death. gojou died because being the best at killing curses isn't enough to give people a good death. if higuruma dies it's because being self-sacrificing also does nothing to give people a good death. that'll also be true if he somehow survives. they're fighting a man who lives only to please himself and no one else. yuji's gonna have to discover some other way of thinking about his life by the end of this. i think what gege is getting at with all of this is to die a good death you first have to live a good life. and to live a good life you need to want to live a good life. if you're denying yourself a good life then you won't give anyone a good death.
