New ways being at our finger tips and sharing their discovery, is like another opportunity to care.

I won’t say much. Ugandan Photographer – Jjumba Martin’s says it all, in this magnetic visual composition of a northern Ugandan mother, protecting her baby from the sun with a calabash.

Love giving birth to innovation.  

The gift that drew me to these stills, was my very own sister, who is the ✨ Founder of NNJEH Apparel. I couldn’t help but take another look at Jjumba’s work but through her craft’s eyes, briefly processing the images from another perspective.  

Innovation truly has many ways.

It was the last day in Gikongoro and Sumba Primary school had been one of the most fruitful schools (photo-wise) we had been to by then. At this evening hour, me and Nazil had packed everything, awaiting Emmanuel, the Cordinator to take us back to Kigali. We seemed idle for some time and the young ones kept staring at us with our piles of bags. We just stood there, admiring the sunset at the hill on the other side. Suddenly, I heard shy voices from the crowd of kids asking for a photo. My mind never thought more than to have them stand in front of the sunset. This was a challenging photography project, yet probably the most beautiful I have worked on this year. In the end, we conquered. Every story is unique, but their story is similar. They have been married and had children at a young age. They have been forced to stop school and had to fight to support themselves and their children. 15 year old Patricia Ngoc got Married a year ago. Today, she is a widow and lives with her father. “At first, my father didn’t accept that I had come back home but now, my child and I live with him. I am convinced that this project will give me the opportunity to support my child in the future and give us a better life” she says. Patricia is part of the work of @erikshjalpen Uganda, in a project which among others, offers mothers vocational training to help them bring back power over their lives and create safe existence for themselves and their children.
