With Season 13 complete now, here's the updated season length comparison!

Season 12 remains on top with a total runtime of 6h 31mins, with season 13 a close second (comparatively) at 6h 12min, though it has one episode fewer. It thus decisively beats the third place, which is season 5 at 4h 52min.

This time, I also plotted the runtimes per episode within each season: their average (shown as the blue line), as well as the longest (yellow) and shortest (red) episode.

The longest episode for most seasons was the finale (seasons 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13), with the runners-up the first episode (pilot and seasons 4 and 12), so, who's ready for season 13.5 to have two 1.5h-episodes? as well as the penultimate (seasons 1, 6, 9; though note that season 1 only had 3 episodes).

Initially, I expected the disparity between longest and shortest episode to be the largest for season 13 -- after all, the shortest episode had been 42 minutes, while the finale was almost twice as long at 1h 20min -- but the lead here is season 5 (Race to the End of the World; 23min/55min) followed by season 8 (Arctic Escape; 22min/58min). Both of those are very similar game formats. Season 1 only has four minutes of disparity between the minimum and maximum, or a maximum of 15% difference between episode runtimes, followed by season 4 with 9 minutes of difference, or 20%. Meanwhile, the maximum difference for seasons 5 and 8 were 57.7% and 56.2% respectively (i.e. the shortest episode was less than half as long as the longest, see above). Season 11, 12, and 13 all hover just below 50% difference (48.4%/59.5%/47.4%)

I found it very interesting to see episode length go down over the pre-channel opening seasons and then almost continually up from there-on; though, of course, the games have tended to get longer, too. Season 3, 7, 11 were the tag seasons, though even those have gotten longer as time progresses (for all that I believe each tag game is still only 3 filming days long).

I'm very excited to see where the journey will take them, stats-wise!

Who are the jet lag boys?

Hi anon! I am SO glad you asked :))))

The Jet Lag boys are the main creators associated with the YouTube/Nebula show Jet Lag: The Game. This is channel I first started watching about two years ago, but started to get much more into in the past few months. The concept of Jet Lag is that it's a public transport-focused travel show based around playing games on large geographic scales. Some of the seasons include car travel, but not most of them. For example, one of their more iconic series, and the one I discovered them by, is their tag series. (A good place to start watching, too.) So the concept of tag across Europe is that the runner is given a head start to hop on a train going anywhere towards their set end location, and the others have to find a way to chase and intercept them. The runner has a tracker on them, but ones tagging them do not, so the runner never knows how long they have until they're caught. Along the way, there's normally challenges or curses that force them to do silly stuff to keep going :)

Another recent series was hide and seek in Japan--the hider would get a head start to hide anywhere in the country they could reach in a given amount of time, and the seekers have to use questions to narrow it down to find them. They have a lot of different styles of games they've tried out though, and the game designs are very unique and well-thought out.

You'll like it if you: are really into trains, enjoy the process of travel just as much or more than the destination, enjoy seeing completely random parts of the world, enjoy watching grown men complete silly challenges, and like light-hearted entertainment that still hooks you in with its stakes.

As for the boys themselves,

Sam Denby is owner of the channel Wendover Productions, which includes Jet Lag and Half As Interesting. He's in every season.

The other two core members are Ben Doyle and Adam Chase, also in every season. They're also writers for Wendover and Half As Interesting, and do a lot of the game design and editing for the series. (Also who I'm normally rooting for to win--sorry Sam!!)

They also frequently do seasons with guests--the last few guests have been Tom Scott, Michelle Khare, and Toby Hendy :)

Hello Jet Lag tumblr!

I decided to make a blog for this fandom because I've been obsessed with the game lately.

I've been watching Wendover and Half as Interesting FOREVER (they were among the first youtube channels I watched) and watched the first four seasons of Jet Lag when they originally released. I stopped watching after a while, but recently found the show again after they made a bunch of new seasons (which is very good for me)!

I can't wait to scream about this show with all of you!! :)

I'm rewatching jltg season 2 and Ben and Adam are simply adorable. Them piggybacking around the park, constantly giving each other encouragement, Adam looking after drunk Ben and calling him buddy 24/7, Ben earnestly telling Adam that the world is a beautiful place and I'm glad we went around it together.

Today was so much fun, we managed to name 35 women in total so I wasn't able to claim Czechia. Also most of these women are dead so my hypothesis that there may not be more than 8 women still kinda holds.

i havent watched s13.5 </3 and i probably wont ever tbh im sorry sam and adam and ben but im a little preoccupied with other things rn (tom and also university, yes in that order sadly). IF i were to watch another jltg season in the near future it would probably be one of the toby ones because she seems awesome frankly. and i think your brother is lying to you lmao. theres no info available for s14 rn besides the fact that its in korea and we definitely know that tom had nothing to do with it. but he will be back sooner or later i just know it. theres no doubt about it in my mind.

i have a problem which is that im obsessed w sam in very insane and granular ways and my jltg fixation returned after like 2 years & i feel like nobody sees him the way i do. do you understand what i mean.

well yknow i think the versions of people that exist in our minds are never going to be quite the same as anyone else's just because that's the nature of being human. personally i think my version of sam is really only like 75% based on reality LOL

ELYN yes i love all the new options for questions!!! and you're right the curse dynamic is so much better now ! i miss the cozy small-scale feeling of switzerland but i have to admit that summer is the better season for this game (hiding in a tower during subzero temperatures was insane) and they managed to keep the slow pace very well (i will always prefer this over any tag across europe season)
