I gotta say one of the things I find the most challenging about cosplay is finding a way to make my body and face mimic the characters.  Like I spend far too long staring at people playing characters I like and figuring out how they are doing the things they are doing.  Did you know that Crowley’s facial expressions are easier to do when you jut your bottom jaw out?  It helps to make sure that the face keeps its grimace on it all the time and helps the whole face look better like him.  I just watched David Tennant talk a lot and try to get my face to be like his.

This only gets more challenging when they are drawn or video game characters.  I try to find live-action or other cosplayers to supplement, but sometimes I just end up watching scenes and acting like a puppet.  I keep going over ow Johnny Silverhands throws out out his arms when he gives speeches or how Miles Edgeworth looks when he is shocked and trying to mimic the face and body or the way Vanessa Ives looks when she possessed.  I look ridiculous, in the process.  It’s even worse when there are wigs involved as I gotta make sure that doesn’t get out of alignment while I am doing such ridiculous posing.

I just gotta hope it all pans out in the end.  Because the clothes are nice but I gotta make sure I actually /look/ like them, you know?  Without the gestures, all you are is wearing a costume.

I have a desire to put together some type of Johnny Silverhand cosplay(I have the pants, cute boots but Idk how to do the arm? One of my favorite artists to work with is Hugo Pelcastre. As an artist his work is phenomenal, as a person he's friendly and a joy to work with. No matter what idea I've ever come up with he's taken on the challenge. Here are just three of the multiple covers he's drawn for me. 1. BRZRKR issue 1 I wanted the idea that the immortal Beserker saw all the different lives he could of lived. The plan was a front and back piece, but turns out only the front cover was blank. We ended up going with John Wick, Ted Logan, Kai, Johnny Silverhand, & Neo. 2. Spider Squirrel issue 1 This is an independent comic done by my friend Charlie McElvy. His hero Spider Squirrel and sidekick Trash Panda. I had a wild idea to do them as Ranma 1/2 characters cosplayers. 3. Disney Comics & Stories issue 1 For this cover I let Hugo know I was thinking about a battle between my wife's favorite Ursula (from the Little Mermaid) and my favorite Kida (from Atlantis). Hugo came up with everything else. I last spoke to Hugo in October 2022. He was about to send me my latest batch of covers, including these three. We had just spoken about a new piece and then he was gone. Earlier this year I had created a cyberpunk costume inspired by the anime film AKIRA with a mechanical prosthetic arm. I enjoy the aesthetic of that film and that it takes place in 2019. Shortly after cosplaying as “CyberPunk AKIRA” at the Megacon Orlando in May, it was announced that Keanu Reeves would be in CyberPunk 2077 as Johnny Silverhand, and that there would be a big Cyberpunk 2077 cosplay contest. From the debut announcement at E3 I just thought Johnny Silverhand was such an awesome character to cosplay as next!

When I was creating this costume back in July, there were only 2 photos and a short 15 second clip of Johnny Silverhand at the time so I used those as reference. For the arm I created a template by wrapping plastic wrap and duct tape around my arm and then built the structure with EVA foam. I layered 6mm and 2mm craft foam to create the shapes and hot glued a bunch of wires to it.

For the hand, I downloaded an “IronMan” Pepakura PDO template from online and used a Cricut machine to cut the finger shapes out of 2mm foam. I then hot glued these small finger pieces to a glove and pained the arm and hand with silver and black paints. I purchased the tactical biker vest online and used the Cricut machine to cut out the 2-tone Samurai stencil on Heat Transfer vinyl. I then applied the stencil to the vest with a hot iron. The vest was additionally weathered by scratching and cutting it with tools and covering it with black pants and dirt. Overall, it took about 3 weekends to create the arm and vest.

I debuted my Johnny Silverhand at Tampa Bay Comic Con in early August (less than 2 months after the E3 announcement). Most people did not recognize who I was, and just thought I was Winter Soldier from The Avengers. The few people who did recognize me thought the costume was great and would yell “Wake the fuck up Samauri – we got a city to burn!”  Maybe a more interesting story though is how my Johnny Silverhand costume ended up in the European Black Market…

When I had initially shared my finished Samurai vest on Instagram, the weekend before the Con, it actually generated more attention than my normal posts since it was the first of its kind (not sold in stores yet). The picture of my Samurai vest was being reshared on several Cyberpunk fan pages on Instagram and even one of those accounts – @cyberpunk.dynasty –  was claiming ownership and was actually “selling” the vest for like $200 on European Black Market. This was really shocking that my fan-made creation was stolen and people were potentially being scammed by these fan pages. After calling out @cyberpunk.dynasty – they actually blocked my account and other accounts (including other Cyberpunk fan pages) for exposing their shady business!  

I have only been doing cosplay for about 1.5 years now, but have been creating wearable art / glass fashion with my Mirror Visionwear project since 2012. As an artist, I’m learning new ways to create realistic sculptures with EVA Foam, papercrafting, and mold making. Cosplay has been a motivational factor for me to also live a healthier lifestyle to attain the heroic physique of the characters I want to portray. This past year I have lost 50 lbs through consistent diet, exercise and supplementation! Setting those non-fictional heroes as role models and then becoming them through cosplay is a very rewarding experience.

Cyberpunk 2077 fan film has an eerily on point Keanu Reeves lookalike • Eurogamer.net

A trailer for new Cyberpunk 2077 fan film Phoenix Program is dazzling the internet – and has impressed developer CD Projekt Red.

The footage, shared by CD Projekt on Twitter, stars a group of talented cosplayers in action directed by Marvel stunt coordinator Vi-Dan Tran.

To be clear, this fan film does not contain Keanu Reeves – but you’d be forgiven for thinking so. An eerily similar-looking Johnny Silverhand cosplayer pops up for some skull cracking. The film’s male V protagonist also looks near-identical to the one seen in Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage so far.

Work on Phoenix Program has unfortunately now been put on pause while its cast of cosplayers self-isolate. But if nothing else comes of the project, this trailer is certainly worth a minute of your time.

CD Projekt Red will next share news on Cyberpunk 2077 in June, before the game finally arrives on 17th September. A next-gen launch also on the cards.
