So as I said yesterday I'm gonna work through adding Izan's family to my not so berry save. The Rasks are another HUGE family like the Novas. This is probably the best group shot of Izan's immediate family even though some of the details are not canon to me anymore.

Anyway, I'm going to add the youngest four. I love Lolly but I fixed my family trees and she cannot exist on the new timeline. Her mother's generation of the Nova clan (Nika's a Nova believe it or not) is like four removed from Ollie's gen. The oldest twins I'm reserving for my Raskland co-writer @boolproppin if/when she comes back cause she was super attached to them so their lives will be whatever she decides.

So that leaves Summer, Esai, Ima, and of course Izan. When I did my major family tree update I did decide to make Ima and Izan seperate births BUT they were originally twins.

And as shown before Ollie has a four brothers.

So there's lots of cousins on that side to choose from but I'm not 100% sure which I'll go with (other than Joss and Carina of course cause they're already in the NSB).

My relationship with my dad was a mixed bag. I didn’t mind him. He wasn’t malicious or anything. He just wasn’t all there. He’d always preferred a good time with the guys over the chaos of our home life. That was mom’s domain and as long as she was happy, he was happy. He was that kind of dad and if I could help it, I wanted to be nothing like that. I wanted to actually know my kid. 

Ollie: “Hey Sam, did you get my text? I’m really sorry for any trouble.” 

Samus: “It’s no problem man. I don’t mind at all. Shit happens. Besides I owe you one…. You know for how things went down the other night? Sorry again... Umm.. anyway, I talked to Nika and we thought maybe you’d want to have Lolly for Christmas? Like two or three days maybe?” 

Ollie: “Of course I would.” 

Samus: “Great, we’ll figure out where to meet up and text you the details.”

I hated this. All of it. 

Worse still I knew my nephew was watching. The kid had taken a shine to me long ago for some reason or another. Who the fuck knows why. I’m about the worst person for a child to look up to. Fuck help me if I ever have any of my own. What a disaster that would be.

Anyway, as he got older Ferris only leaned harder into the types of rebellion his favorite uncle was best known for. Girls, green, and the teen delinquent scene. The real mystery why Matti still lets him around me.

I did my best to help Sancha lay out the muffins but let’s be honest I probably just made more work for her. I had food service experience but when you work at a diner the expectation for high aesthetics is rather low. 

“Didn’t my mom pick these up already?” I asked as she put the finishing touches on the display. 

“Yeah but she asked me to make a few extra because they keep running out.” She replied, it seemed now as if the initial anxiety in her voice had dissipated. It probably helped that she was doing something she loved.  

“They do seem very popular.” I agreed, instantly recalling the conversation I had with my mother. Luckily she was happily chattering away with my older brother and sister-in-law and too busy to notice my mild act of rebellion. 

“So I take it you’ve never tried them?” Sancha asked sweetly. I couldn’t help but enjoy the way her beautiful brown eyes fixed on me in anticipation. Maybe she didn’t think I was all that bad after all? 

“Sweets aren’t really my thing.” I explained, “Especially first thing in the morning.” 

“Well...” She replied with the hint of a clever smile, “Maybe there’s something else I can bring you next time? Anything you think you might like? It’s not all cookies and cakes.”

All in all my mother had always been reasonable despite what it may seem sometimes. She only had a few rules she asked me to keep while living under her roof. Paramount to all of them though was the stipulation regarding church attendance. That was the only thing we bickered about from time to time but I was positive it was the one that mattered most to her. 

“We’re headed out now okay?” She shouted up the stairs while I further prepared for the awkward morning ahead. “Olin, please don’t be late.” 

“I’ll be just a few minutes behind you.” I called down, knowing that it’d probably be more like a half hour but they were always extremely early. More than I’d ever want to be. That was just a recipe to be cornered by that little Sunday School teacher and her cascade of small talk.

“Olin Sebastian Rask, so you finally decided to do your due diligence toward this family? To honor your father, mother, and your brothers with your presence for a short time for the first fucking time in a long fucking time?”

“Yeah... I guess? Want me to leave?”

“Fucking hell kid... you have always taken shit far too seriously..” 

“Heh...” 

“Listen I recognize shit’s not great but.. like probably the worse it has ever been but fuck... lighten up a little. You only live once Olin, you don’t need the fucking stress.”

“I’m telling you we should just go, Matti can tell them later...” 

“Matti can us what later?” 

“That Tali and Fin went out, probably to find trouble.” 

“Not trouble, in fact you should know we’re just going to visit family. Wanna come Ollie?”

“So is there anyone special in your life?” 

“Mom...” 

“I’m sure there are many special someone’s in Ollie’s life Love.” 

“Ugh... Joss don’t be fucking crass.” 

“What?! It’s true and it’s perfectly normal young Null men to sleep around...” 

“But he’s not a Null...” 

“I am very careful mom, I promise.” 

“Well you fucking better be, just what some poor girl needs is a surprise blue baby. You know this is why we all stay in this fucking town Olin. Most people here have gotten used to us as long as we’re not open about shit. You need to find someone you can trust to fuck around with and make sure they know what they are getting into. You understand me?” 

“What the fuck mom, seriously? I told you I’m fucking careful, let’s just leave it at that.”

“Hey Love, someone’s here to see you.” 

“Is that... that my little Ollie?” 

“Well not so little these days I’d say... I am really sorry I didn’t come to see you before now. Life... well I’ve kept pretty busy and just didn’t know.” 

“It’s quite alright my heart. You were always happiest when you had a lot to do. Tell me, are you still playing your music? Do you sing for others like you do for me?” 

“Sometimes.” 

“That makes me happy to hear.” 

“Good, I’m glad.” 

“I am glad too, glad you and your brothers are under one roof again. It’s loud but the best kind of noise.”

“Before we go in, just know you’ll feel a bit of a drain on your system. It shouldn’t shift you but it will tug at your cells a bit.” 

“So it’s that bad already? Why the fuck didn’t you tell me before now?” 

“Olin, not to be a tool, but it’s really fucking hard to reach you. Like I can’t even get to grips on what kind of hours you’re keeping. I’ve even shown up in the middle of the night and you’re not there... and then you don’t answer your phone. You know you’re like this right? You have to, I mean you’re fucking twenty-four and the last girl you brought home to meet us you met in grade school.”

The Free Market in November was not exactly a hopping place and the start of that week mostly left my uncle, cousin, and I wet and bored out of our minds. Thankfully we had family festivities to look forward to later: A night out with my cousins, our sort of Thanksgiving Eve tradition we started in our teens, and of course The Rask Family meal. It was usually a pretty good time.
