"NEVER LEFT THE PLANET, DIED IN THIS SELFSAME TOWER"... ok. ok. so. okay so. if we're operating under the assumption that canaan house is john & company's labs, and that the other skeleton servants also died at canaan house and never left the planet, then one can assume that the bone servants in gideon the ninth are all of the cultists & ex-cultists in nona the ninth.
wow. so. after the cultists killed johns friends... he didn't fully resurrect them but instead kept them all to work for him and his pals and make food for them and rot until they couldn't even remember how to write anymore. okay. the implications.
Tumblr media
haha. anyway

"Pete, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that this is an incredibly complicated and dangerous mission to be doing solo, and if I had my druthers it would never be happening at all." Buddy said, usual easy elegance replaced by clipped words and forced wit. "But I will, and I am."
"Of course, Captain," his voice was only slightly destored by the comms, but it came through clear and confident nonetheless.
Nureyev's 'Ransom' voice wasn't much different then his regular one, though there were a few key differences Juno found. His Rex voice and his Duke voice had been meant to be annoying. Meant to rub people the wrong way and put them ill at ease. Ransom is less purposely annoying, but was made to be chatty. Not about anything that matters, just filling whatever silence with the sound of his own voice. It's a little lighter, a little whinier.
So it caught Juno's ear when the words that came from the comms were not actually Ransom at all, but pure Nureyev. A single, tight sentence. No flowers, no froof. His usual deference paid to Buddy, but that's hero worship from Peter Nureyev, not the ingratiating neediness of Ransom.
There were only two emotions that could reliably cause him to break character in front of the rest of the crew: terror or excitement.
Juno ran his eye over the map Buddy was frowning at.
Oof. A lot of locked doors, a lot of security, a lot of cameras and a lot of ground to cover until the rendezvous. Jet and Rita had already been forced to retreat, leaving the thief completely on his own and, for the first time in months, entirely reliant on his own skills to get him home. No safety net.
"You can rest assured I won't let you down," Nureyev was saying, when Juno tuned back in.
"Pete," Buddy near snapped, and Juno cut in on whatever bad advice she was about to give.
"Hey Ransom," he called, and was only a little smug when Nureyev seemed to startle, apparently not aware he'd been in the room.
"Yes, dear?"
Juno very determinedly did not shiver in front of Buddy.
The pet names were...new was all. And he was still figuring out how he felt about them in the light of day, in front of other people. Other then silly and giddy and...shivery.
"This whole mission has gone pretty much to hell, and I don't want to add any more stress on you," Juno started.
Nureyev sighed. "But?"
Juno smirked. "I love you."
The silence was so thick and went on for so long Juno checked to see that their call hadn't dropped and was almost nervous enough to rethink his plan.
Buddy was, plainly, looking at him as though he'd lost his mind, and it was a miracle she kept quiet, waiting, like he was, for Nureyev's response.
"Juno," Nureyev audibly fumed, using his name like a curse, and Juno grinned, shoulder's sagging in pure relief. Gone was the tight, nervous tone and in its place the same colder, pragmatic one that Juno remembered from a train and a tomb and a ball. "did you choose to say that to me, for the first time, right now?"
"Yup," he made sure to smack his lips on the 'p.'
"Knowing it stress me further?"
"Yeah, and if you wanna say it back, you're gonna have to get home, safe and sound."
"What? Juno!"
"Love you, gotta go, bye!" He stabbed the end call button on Buddy's comms and settled in for the wrath of their captain.
It didn't take long.
"Well," she said briskly. "I suppose you must have some very sane and logical explanation as to why you chose to cut off our only means of contact with our thief, knowing he is alone, knowing we cannot regain contact without Rita and knowing he must now complete this without back up, and I would dearly love to hear it, darling. Now, if you would."
"One - he never had back up in the first place, you two would just bicker about what to do and he would take your advice, even though you aren't there and are working off old information which could get him killed. Two - he studies all the schematics himself before a mission and you know it, he knows that place just as well as any of us and he's better at grifting on the fly. And three - he works better under pressure and with a time limit, don't ask me why."
Buddy studied him with that dark, blazing eye and Juno found himself shrinking from that gaze, like he always did when she turned its full force on him. He was right. He wanted to be right.
Finally, she hummed and reached her wine glass, taking a smooth sip of the pale yellow stuff. What it was, other then wine, was anyone's guess but his. Juno'd dated a wine drinker in his early 30s but he still couldn't tell a Chardonnay from a...another white wine.
"The first time?" She finally questioned.
Oh.
Juno ducked his head, pressing his lips together.
"I don't mean to pry because it's none of my business and frankly I don't care, but you two have been...involved for months now,"
"Yeah, well, we had a lot of history to work through."
Buddy hums again. "Then I suppose I'll be brief, with the debrief, darling."
Oh. Well. That was. A lot less embarrassing then Juno thought it might be.
"Although."
There it was.
"If you ever do this again,"
Oh. Threats. Juno grinned, "You'll have my heart on a platter, yeah, yeah."
"And Juno?"
"You can have my liver too, if you want it, but it's not in the best condition -"
"Congratulations, darling."

Note
listen i know this is sort of a cliche and silly idea but now i wanna see what you would do with vampire au
I mean, between Juno’s pain kink, his thing for Peter’s teeth, and Peter’s classic sexy elegance, it kind of writes itself, don’t you think?
Besides, I think I’ll always have a weakness for vampires.
The electrodes and silver knives are one thing. Those I can handle. After all, I’ve had a long time to get accustomed to pain.
Being locked in here, though? That’s the real torture. The hunger gnaws at my consciousness, demands I never stop thinking about it. Even when I try to force my mind elsewhere, it commandeers my thoughts back to the endless need for food. Even that I could take, if unhappily.
But I’m locked in here with Juno. The guards are well out of sight; out of earshot, too, unless one of us screams. And how could Juno possibly scream? He’s unconscious, after all. Perfectly defenseless at the moment when my resolve is at its weakest, and his face–
There’s so much blood.
The smell is everywhere, metallic and rich with the promise of satisfaction. It turns my hunger pains into fresh agony and leaves me shaking with need. On more than a few occasions I find myself crouching over him, inhaling that scent and wondering.
He wouldn’t mind if I helped to clean him up, would he? I could lap up just a little– just what’s drenching his skin. I wouldn’t leave a mark on him. He’d never even have to know.
It would be so easy, the hunger whispers. And it would be: the easiest thing in the world, just to take a sip. The question is whether I’d be able to stop myself once I started.
When they carry him in with blood on his face, I wipe it away with the washcloth they’ve provided, and I try not to think about the smell lingering on my hands.
It’s been weeks, and every day escape seems more like a distant dream. I can barely walk anymore. When the masked assistants take us in for our daily torment, they have to physically drag me through the halls. I don’t have the strength to fight them.I can’t think in a straight line long enough to form a coherent plan– every thought veers off course to the hunger and the need.
Maybe that’s why I don’t notice Juno’s approach until he sits down beside me, our backs to the glowing walls of the tomb.
“How long has it been since you’ve fed?” he asks flatly.
It won’t be good if his mind is going, too. “We ate a few hours ago, Juno.”
“You think I didn’t see you sneaking most of your food onto my plate?” His stare is unrelenting. “Besides, what they’re feeding me wouldn’t do you any good, would it? How long has it been since you’ve actually fed?”
It takes me too long to realize the obvious. “You know.” As with everything else, I blame the hunger, and I laugh. “Of course you know. You can read my mind.”
“I knew the first time I saw you smile,” he says. “Kind of hard not to notice teeth like that once you know what you’re looking at. Besides, you wouldn’t step inside my apartment until I welcomed you in. That was one of the first giveaways, you know, back when we did the case with the Kanagawas. You never needed an invitation; I figured you’d gotten one when you first came in to steal the Mask.”
Of course he did. My clever detective. “Most people think we’re a myth. How long have you known?”
He shrugs. “I experimented a lot in my twenties.”
“Sounds like there’s quite a story there. You’ll have to tell me about it sometime.”
“Maybe later,” he says. “After you’ve eaten.”
He extends his arm to me so naturally that I assume he’s trying to hand me something– one of those awful rations they’ve been giving us, perhaps. But there’s nothing in his hands. His sleeve is pulled back to his elbow, exposing the wrist.
“No.” I push his arm away before I can give into the temptation. “As much as I appreciate the offer, Juno, it’s alright. I’ll be alright.”
“You’re literally starving to death right now.”
I can’t exactly forget that fact when I’m looking at fresh blood pumping through his veins. “You’ve lost so much blood already.”
“Not like I’m using it,” he snaps. “At least we know Miasma will feed me if I start looking anemic. So how about we let her worry about me and let me worry about you?”
He thrusts his arm in front of me again, and involuntarily I touch his wrist. His skin is so warm. His pulse is so strong.
I’ve never been good at self-denial.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Juno,” I whisper.
“You won’t. I trust you.”
Dangerous words to say to a vampire.
Finally I bring his wrist to my lips. I’m dizzy with hunger, but I bite down carefully, cutting the skin without tearing it and opening his veins without severing them. When the wound heals, it will heal quickly and with little scarring. I can do that for him, at least.
Then the blood hits my tongue, and all conscious thought flees my mind. It’s hot and rich, drenching me after too many weeks spent parched. The fresh vitae surges through me, leaving me thrumming with energy I haven’t felt in so long.
I suckle greedily, licking the skin around the wound to encourage the blood to flow. The noises I’m making are obscene.
Juno should be horrified right now, but he doesn’t discourage me. His other arm is wrapped around my shoulder, pulling me closer with every gasp, and I realize absently that I don’t know which of us is gasping.
I can taste desire in his veins– the seratonin and oxytocin and endorphines that are quickly drowning out the bitter tang of cortisol, and they leave me giddy with secondhand pleasure.
“Oh Juno,” I purr, finally taking my mouth off his wrist. “Are you enjoying yourself?”
His eyes are glazed, but they’re fixed on my mouth. My red lips. My sharp teeth. “Yeah.”
I roll with strength I didn’t have before, settling on top of him, his hips between my knees. I can see his pulse jumping in his veins. Fresh adrenaline flavors the blood still seeping from his arm; I can smell it from here. His pupils are blown wide, the sweet blue of his eyes barely visible around the black.
“I can make it even better for you,” I promise, my breath soft against his ear.
His head tilts to one side, exposing the succulent planes of his neck. I trace those lovely veins with my lips. My teeth scrape his throat, and he takes a long, shuddering breath.
It would be so easy. The slightest pressure, and I could break the skin. He wants it, too– I can already feel the moans building in his throat. I could do anything to him right now. I could fuck him. I could drain him dry. I could kill him, and he’d thank me for the privilege.
I press a toothless kiss to his throat and pull back, struggling to ignore the needy whine that follows.
“You don’t have to stop, you know,” Juno says, almost pleading.
“I don’t have to take any more, either.”
He trusts me. I won’t betray that trust, even if a part of him wants me to.
I take his arm in hand and apply pressure close to his elbow to stop the bleeding, gently licking the excess off his wrist. We’ll need to wrap the wound so it won’t come into contact with the dirty floor– I’m sure the assistants will bring us some bandages if I call.
“How are you feeling?” he asks, still watching me lean over his arm.
“Sated,” I tell him. Not entirely satisfied, but I don’t dare take that much from him while we’re down here. Maybe later, when all this is over and we’re somewhere safe, I’ll hold him down and give in to every single one of my cravings. Later, though, when I’m certain he’ll survive the experience. For now, this is more than enough. “Thank you, Juno.”
“No problem,” he says. His fingers have already strayed to his throat, brushing the light scratches I left there. “Any time.”
I’ll be sure to take him up on that later.

notes on alecto
hii!! so a few months ago i did a full reread of the locked tomb and took note of anything i thought seemed particularly relevant. I want to share what I have but I'm not sure exactly how i want to format everything quite yet- but im just gonna go for it so bear with me if its a little disorganized!
throughout the process i've started coming up with some of my own theories, but i thought it would be cool to post everything i've compiled, so people could use that to make their own conclusions as well :D
I have sections for anything that seemed important about all the original lyctors & their cavaliers, so I'm going to start off with all my information gathered about alecto! buckle in, folks, there's a lot :-)
you can find links to the other posts in the project here!
(also ofc spoilers for the up to the end of nona ahead!)
ALECTO
titles:
Also referred to as “A.L.”, “Annabel Lee,”or “Annie Laurie”  John’s cavalier, the soul of the Earth. (And of course, nona <;3)
Annabel Lee poem  (mentioned htn. pg. 196)
Annie Laurie poem (mentioned htn. pg. 345)
notes from harrow the ninth:
Harrow's psychosis seems to begin after seeing Alecto for the first time (htn. pg. 51)
Augustine describes her as "more lucid" than Mercy as an insult to Mercy (htn. pg 168)
"'God, who did you bury?' [...] 'I buried a monster,' he said." (htn. pg. 195)
(depending on how much of The Body is real) Agrees that Harrow should kill G1dieon (htn. pg. 226)
“Augustine said, ‘To sisters, and to the women we‘ve left behind.’ God’s mouth was cheerful as ever, but his eyes were not when he said, 'Do I have to drink to that?’ For the first time, you were witness to the Saint of Patience discombobulated. ‘Apologies, John. Wasn’t meant as a jab.’ ‘It doesn’t hurt anymore- most of the time,’ said God, and he was still smiling.” (htn. Pg. 277)
"Even the devil bent for God to put a leash around her neck… and the disciples were scared! I cannot blame them! I was terrified! But when the work was done- when I was finished, and so were they, and the new Lyctors found out the price- they bade him kill the saltwater creature before she could do them harm… Oh, but it is a tragedy, to be put in a box and laid to wait for the rest of time." - Teacher (htn. pg. 328)
Says she has to go away for a while immediately after Varun appears (htn. pg. 334)
John says that G1deon doesn’t talk about her, but Augustine and Mercy still feel guilty about what happened (htn. pg. 345)
“When I first met her I just called her First, One. She had a real name, but I buried it with her, and nobody says it anymore.” - John (htn. Pg. 345)
“Annabel Lee was my- what do I call her? Guide? Friend? I’d hope so… [...] She was the first Resurrection. She was my Adam. As the dust settled and I beheld what was left and what was gone, I was entirely alone. The world had been ended, Harrowhark. One moment I was a man, and the next moment I was the Necrolord Prime, the first necromancer, and more importantly, a landlord with no tenants. [...] I was dazed… I was bewildered… and she was my defender and my sole companion, and my colleague in the scholarship of learning how to live again. It was bloody difficult. I had never been God. [...] She lived to see what happened at Canaan House. Not that she took much interest. My first Resurrection was not a normal human being, Harrow, and she struggled to pretend. Anger was her besetting sin. We had that in common. And when the cost of Lyctorhood was paid, when the emotions were at their peak… we found out the price for our sin. The monstrous retribution. To be chased for our crime to the ends of the universe, to have our deed stain our very faces and follow after us like a foul smell. She died after that first terrible assault.” - John (htn. pg. 346)
"That freak would have gone for me already… she could never act human." -Mercymorn (htn. pg. 408)
the lyctors knew some amount of truth about Alecto's resurrection, likely that shes essentially a resurrection beast (htn. pg. 478)
"'A monster, John!' Augustine barked. "She was a bloody monster in a human suit! She was a monster the moment you resurrected her, and then you went and made her worse!'" - Augustine (htn. pg. 478)
Gideon & Pyrrha liked Alecto despite the fact that the other lyctors (at least Mercy and Augustine) didn't (htn. pg. 479)
One of the reasons the lyctors wanted her dead was because the RBs were partially coming for her (htn. pg. 479)
Appears to claim Harrow's body after Gideon "dies" in the river (htn. pg. 500)
notes from nona the ninth
"Sometimes, [...] I don't like when you do- the necromancy word- [...] -but it feels nice at the same time. It's mixed up. It's like when you do that, it makes me sad- not sad that you did it, but sad that you can do it." - Nona, to Palamades (ntn. pg. 65)
"Nona loved the blue sphere as much as she loved everything else. She, and nobody else, could hear it sing." (ntn. pg. 125)
"'And I'm not scared of dying. Really truly, Cam, I'm not…' 'Why not?' said Camilla. Nona thought about it. 'Because I like letting go of the pull-up bars and falling off,' she said. 'I don't like the part just before you let go and I don't like the part where you hit the floor, but I like the letting go.'"- Nona and Cam (ntn. pg. 125)
"Dust of my dust- such similar star salt- what they did to you and what they wrung from you and what shape they made you fill- we see you still- we seek you still- we murdered- we who murder- you inadvertent tool- you misused green thing- come back to us- take vengeance for us- we saw you- we see you- I see you." - Judith, (as Varun) to Nona (ntn. pg. 164)
Nona likes Gideon's (originally Pyrrhas?? maybe?) sunglasses, but only so long as nobody wore them (ntn. pg. 165)
"then she told herself sternly, Stop it! If she was going to do it, she thought, she might as well do it. She had some vague notion that when you committed to a thing you had to do it all the way. Who had said that to her? Who had taught her that? Once you've stepped in, said the voice in the back of her head, you're in. This isn't the Hokey Pokey. She had remembered something- she had finally remembered something! Only she didn't have anyone to tell." (ntn. pg. 203)
"Nona had thrown exactly two tantrums in her entire life. She couldn't remember anything about the first one, but Pyrrha had told her about it. Pyrrha had been laughing with her mouth, but not with her eyes: her eyes had been very brown and distant and uneasy, as though this tantrum had reminded Pyrrha of something her brain didn't want to bring back." (ntn. pg. 275)
"'But you see, Palamades, I don't mind dying,' said Nona, trying to make him understand. 'I've been doing it for ages. I'm not scared.'" (ntn. pg. 289)
"'I am glad you did not tell us this. We had no idea there was any recourse from Varun the Eater's effects, nor any beast.' 'Its pure theory,' Camilla said curtly. "Something's being transmitted through the light spectrum. Absorption through the eyes is worse for the brain.' This made Nona think of something. It tugged at the edges of her memory and stayed there, nagging.'" - We Suffer & Cam (ntn. pg. 322)
Nona says that she never liked her hands (ntn. pg. 357)
"She wanted to shout. She wanted to be listened to. She wished the barrier had taken her hands. She wished she had thrust herself into it- become that big seething mass of flesh and meat and tendrils- ruined her body, just melted it; come back messed up, so that nobody could want her body but her, so that it would be hers and nobody else's. This was a horrible thing to think. Nona hated herself immediately and fervently." (ntn. pg. 358)
She hates having just two feet (ntn. pg. 390)
“You were the noise that was everywhere. It was like trying to talk to someone down a phone line with someone screaming through a megaphone in the same room. You drowned everything out. You were so huge and so complicated, and you were screaming, You wouldn’t stop screaming, You were so scared. You were so goddamn mad.” (ntn. pg. 405)
“You were screaming. I wanted you to stop, I wanted… I wanted you. I wanted you like a caveman wants a wildfire… or the sun. I thought you were going to take me, somehow. Purge me. Use me as an instrument. But you didn’t say anything…I was babbling, Show me. Come on. I’m ready. You kept screaming and screaming… like a baby in pain. So I tried to hurt you- I did hurt you. I reached out for you, and it hurt you… but I wasn’t strong enough. The caveman. The wildfire. The Neolithic priest staggering in front of the falling star.” (ntn. pg. 407)
“I wanted to make you the most beautiful body I could think of. He paused and said: “But I was stressed, okay? I was insane. Most of what had made me John had gone somewhere else. There were a few little thoughts left…a handful of things that made me me… a couple scraps of id. It’s not fair to judge me, right? I didn’t do this thinking… I didn’t do it like art. When I was seven, you know, all Nana had to play with in her house was some of Mum’s old toys. And my favourite out of all of them…” He gave a long, shuddering sigh. “My favourite was her old Hollywood Hair Barbie,” he murmured. “I loved her little gold outfit and her long yellow hair. She was the best. She got to have all the adventures. [...]” He said, from my blood and bone and vomit I conjured up a beautiful labyrinth to house you in. I was terrified you’d find some way to escape before I was done. I made you look like a Christmas tree fairy… I made you look like a Renaissance angel… I made you Adam and Eve… Galatea. Barbie. Frankenstien’s monster with long yellow hair. He said, As the world went up I remade us both. I hid me in you… I hid you in me. And when we were together… once the shaman had claimed the sun… I became God.”- John (ntn. pg. 408)
“Do you remember what you said to me once I had done it? When we stood here together?” She looked at him and she said, “Yes.” He said- “You said, ‘I picked you to change, and this is how you repay me?’” She said- “What else did I say?” He said: “You said, ‘What have you done to me? I am a hideousness.’” She said- “What else did I say?” He said, “Where did you put the people? Where did they go?” She said, “I still love you.” He said, "You said that too.” - John & Alecto/Harrow (ntn. Pg. 410)
Nona has some kind of blackout on top of the truck and something happens in that time that convinces Pyrrha of her true identity (ntn. pg. 413)
Also based on Nona’s reaction at that point, maybe Alecto didn’t like Pyrrha even though Pyrrha liked Alecto (ntn. pg. 413)
“She’s scared to die. You’re afraid of so many things, but she’s only afraid to die. Then when the disciples come to you and say the word Lyctor, she does not understand that they want the thing you did to her- she watches as you watch… watch them misunderstand the process.” - Harrow, to John, (ntn. pg. 434)
“In [Aiglemene’s] hands was a huge black-metal pike about the same height as her, with an edge that gleamed in the light. Nona couldn’t stop herself looking at that edge: for some reason it made her palms sweat, and the back of her neck itch again.” (ntn. pg. 454)
“I might not help you when.. I'm back," she said, not quite understanding I. “I'll be different. I'll remember everything. I'll remember the thing I'm trying to forget. And Palamedes-  I won't love him. I won't love Camilla, or Pyrrha, or Hot Sauce, or even Noodle. I won't love anything… I won't know how. I won't be me at all, or.. I'll be the me who knows the thing, and knowing the thing means I'm not Nona- I'm someone else." (ntn. pg. 460)
she recognizes the tower, and the devils (ntn. pg. 440, and 447, respectively)
“You let that monster out of its box," said Ianthe, "and you start us down a path nobody can save us from. If God truly wants her out… if Teacher set this all up… if he wants her…"  “Wants her? He told me to kill her. He said Make it quick, but kill her, said me with my blood could do it- said me with my blood, I was the only one… " [...] “He loves her! " Ianthe howled. “John loves Alecto - John needs Alecto! Without that piece of Goddamn fridge meat, he's nothing- and we need to keep him that way!” - Ianthe & Kiriona, accidentally prompting nona to remember everything (ntn. pg. 470)
“She had been taken down this corridor: she had squeezed through this crack in the rock- not a passageway, not at that point. John had told her he had something to show her. He had said, It's very pretty. You'll like it. [...] John loved her. She was John's cavalier. She loved John. For she so loved the world that she had given them John. For the world so loved John that she had been given. For John had so loved her that he had made her she. for John had loved the world. [...] She hadn't come on purpose; the scrap of black-eyed meat had asked for it- the chain of a kiss: the ice that burnt the flesh of the mouth that had stuck to the mouth that was frozen. The teardrop on the hand. The hand that John had fashioned. [...] John had said, It's so beautiful. Come and look. She had said, There are almost no beautiful things left. where is Anastasia? Let me talk to Anastasia. [...] Glowworms, she had told John. Technically beetles, said John, but I always loved them. Narrow beetles with long strands hanging off them- a carpet of shifting, dead, winking lights at the top of the grave. Greenish, orangish, yellowish, moving over one another silently with those long filaments hanging down. [...] And the water- the huge pool of real salt water, where she had knelt and drank- [...] John and she had swum to the centre hummock rising out of the pool. Not an island, not really. An outcropping. With the marble pillars, and the marble top, and the long low marble table. He said he thought it was a nice place to be. To lie down. She had liked hard things to lie down on. It was hard to endure having a spine.” (ntn. starting page 471)
“There she was; John had made her so ugly, so unbearably ugly. The terrible face, with the terrible arms and legs and the terrible middle part, and the terrible hair, and the terrible ears: the nose too short, the ears too brief. But there she was- and within her the child, asleep, with the strange sword. The sword- her sword- her own edge had been pushed out, her swinging edge, her toy. Her plain bladed sword. And her body was chained up…” (ntn. pg. 474)
“Then Alecto remembered the vow, and turned back upon the altar to face the second child and raised the sword with wrath in her heart, for they meant to bring destruction upon her. But when the black-eyed infant showed her countenance to Alecto, Alecto recalled her, for it was a face one dreamed in Alecto's dream. and Alecto stayed the sword.” (ntn. pg. 476)
“And Alecto said, Pyrrha, he laid me down as an appeasement to them; he fed you to them as an appeasement to them; but he has never appeased me, and now all he has done was teach me how to die." (ntn. Pg. 476)
"Alecto said, I am very sorry about Samael. The child made no answer. Alecto said, I remember my vows. As I swore to Anastasia I swear to you. I am in your service until you bid me the favour, and whatsoever you appoint I shall perform, and consider the vow rendered. This is what I promised, until such a time as you deal with me as you see fit.” (ntn. pg. 477)

Name origins, from the pronunciation guide at the end of htn: "NOTE: Cassiopeia's most famous namesake is the vain queen of Greek mythology who chained Andromeda to a rock, but this does Cassiopeia the First a disservice, as she was honestly just a universally beloved and clever human being who made beautiful meals with the occasional finger error. The evolutionary pressure of Lyctorhood has, alas, selected for jerks."
Came up with the magma metaphor for the river that John later uses (htn. pg. 94)
The only lyctor to last seven minutes in full physical submersion in the river (htn. pg. 97)
Died trying to lure an RB through the current of the river. It followed her, but the spirits killed her, and the RB emerged unscathed 20 mins later (htn. pg. 97)
Had a ceramics collection (htn. pg. 105)
Was able to perform necromancy her first time in the river (htn. pg. 156)
For some reason, the fact that Harrow was also capable of this was part of what gave John the idea that something was up with her birth… interesting!! What does this say about Cassiopeia?
Specialised in studying the river (htn. pg. 171)
Coined the term "periscoping" in regards to the RB's (htn. pg. 173)
Was great at cooking, but once cut off a finger that fell into the food and didn’t mention it until everyone had eaten it (htn. pg. 231)
was a lightweight lol (htn. pg. 268)
Died fighting the seventh RB, Varun (htn. pg. 333)
Brought the RB into the river alongside its brain (htn. pg. 337)
was the person to tell Mercy that blood wards can be bypassed with the genetic material of a close relative (htn. pg. 474)
notes from nona the ninth:
was originally brought on Johns team by oversight execs to handle contracts as their lawyer, but was "on their side before the first year was over" (ntn. pg. 13)
"C- was panicking because with the project over she was getting recalled to England and didn't want to go, she'd got N- and didn't want to leave her, refused to admit they were dating even though we all knew." - John 5:20 (ntn. pg. 73)
specifically worked in contract law (ntn. pg. 99)
when she found out about the cow wall they had to lock her in the kitchen so she could throw up in private for a while (ntn. pg. 192)
"C- kept saying, Pick one. Are we more invested in proving this new plan is bullshit, or in saving you? I was like, It's both, how can it not be both. C- was like, It can't be both. Pick one and stick to it. Decide what you give a fuck about." (ntn. pg. 280)
"'Does God know why the Sixth House left?' 'I'm assuming some grisly moral reason that you're about to impart,' said Ianthe, 'and I want to warn you against sounding like a tract.' [...] 'Cassiopeia the First left us instructions years ago,' said Camilla. 'We left for a lyctor.'" - Ianthe & Cam (ntn. pg. 335)
"Cassy played long games." - Pyrrha (ntn. pg. 336)
"C- had been saying, Can't we gin up an act of good wizardry? Any way to stabilize the North America glacier? Any way to trap the atmosphere over the Northern Territory, show them we can fix things here?" (ntn. pg. 397)
“C- admitting out of nowhere she’s dating N-. All of us like, What? We've known for a year? Go ahead and get married already, we've got a nun. N- was all, That’s not legal. C- of all people said, Who cares. That’s how bad it was. [...] C- and N- got married right over there, you can’t see it now ‘cause of the rubbish. I made flowers grow for them out of the garden, but they came out… weird. Some of the roses had teeth. C- and N- thought that was hilarious. [...] The dome meant we hadn’t had full sunlight in a while. It was beautiful anyway. I cried the whole service. I couldn't remember the last time I’d eaten food.” (ntn. pg. 400)
“At this point my people were like, John, what the fuck? What the fuck is happening? We were all yelling at each other. First time I’d ever seen C- angry.” (ntn. Pg. 401)
“C- said, John, your problem is that you care less about being a saviour than you do about meting out punishment. I said, C-, I was just your best man! C- said, You still are. That doesn’t change the fact that you can be quite the most appallingly vindictive person I have ever met.” (ntn. pg. 401)
“They’d shot C- first… and right in front of my eyes they shot N-. Bubble wrap. I don’t know what happened to them..” (ntn. Pg. 406)
“Cass and Mercy and I worked on cell thanergy- we need thanergy, fresh thanergy, to activate…” - Pyrrha (ntn. pg. 471)

notes on pyrrha dve
heres all the relevant info i took note of on pyrrha during my tlt reread, in one place!
(you can find all the other posts from this project here!)
PYRRHA DVE
titles:
Gideon’s cavalier, first gen, founded the second
greek mythological orgin of the name pyrrha
also, pyrrhic victory
notes from gideon the ninth:
G1deon & Pyrrha's room in Canaan house includes a drawing of a chimaera that Gideon describes as "familiar" and a picture on the wall of John and his pals (presumably) with everyone's faces scribbled out with a thick black marker. Also guns (gtn. pg. 205)
notes from harrow the ninth:
presumably lead the development of her and G1dieon's trial at Canaan house, as Mercy refers to it as "Pyrrha's trial" (htn. pg. 97)
The reason G1deon is named the Saint of Duty (htn. pg. 177)
Asked Wake to kill G1deon quickly (htn. pg. 205)
Was most likely the one conscious in G1dieon’s body when Harrow caught her fucking Wake in Cytherea’s body????? (htn. pg. 216)
"I will remember the first time you kissed me- you apologised- you said, I am sorry, destroy me as I am, but I want to kiss you before I am killed, and I said to you why, and you said, because I have only once met someone so utterly willing to burn for what they believed in, and I loved him on sight, and the first time I died I asked of him what I now ask of you / I kissed you and later I would kiss him too before I understood what you were, and all three of us lived to regret it- but when I am in heaven I will remember your mouth, and when you roast down in hell I think you will remember mine" -Wake's note (htn. pg. 252)
All the lyctors and John loved her (and also thought she was super hot) (htn. pg. 274)
Augustine developed his smoking habit to impress her (htn. pg. 275)
Was ten years older than Augustine (htn. Pg. 278)
G1deon & Pyrrha liked Alecto despite the fact that the other lyctors (at least Mercy and Augustine) didn't (htn. pg. 479)
Mattaius Nonius fought G1deon, and seems to owe Pyrrha a debt (htn. pg. 455)
"We compartmentalised from the Eightfold Word, just like you and your girl- though I'm an accident, and he took more from me than got taken from you. I was able to go underground, even from him."- Pyrrha (htn. pg. 494)
notes from nona the ninth:
Used to be a cop, made detective, knew Gideon from "way back" (ntn. pg. 74)
"'You should be draining and replacing her fucking brain fluid,' said Pyrrha. 'When Gideon and I designed that trial, I used to crack his skull and sieve it myself, just as a control variable. It's aggregative. I doubt you're testing her white blood cell count either. The only other people I put through that damn trial were Mercy and Cris, because only Cris didn't mind being trepanned on the regular. Fucking around with souls is the problem, Sextus… you can't ever get data on souls.'" - Pyrrha, discussing when Cam & Pal "overlap" (ntn. pg. 84)
"I visited her hometown back before Anastasia got settled, and it was grim as fuck then. Just spooky caves all the way down…" -Pyrrha (ntn. pg. 86)
"'Do they still do gravid carry where you come from?' 'On the Sixth, only for research,' said Palamedes. 'I helped at a birth once. Theres a lot of noise and run-up before the real thing happens.'" -Pyrrha and Palamedes (ntn. pg. 121)
"P- was great, but like, Ministry ties or no Ministry ties, a big part of her career was going around to the local high schools and telling the drugs kids that they shouldn't be doing drugs. She'd won medals for competition shooting back north in Hamilton, but we're not talking Jesse James. We're talking Hamilton."- john (ntn. pg. 191)
"She chose us that day, not her career. I always loved her for that. She'd adored being a cop." -john (ntn. pg. 191)
"and it was P- of all people who said, First things first. If they're going to let us fix the world, you've got to make them take us seriously. Get some leverage. If they want to make you into a bad wizard, be a bad wizard. We can write the history books to say you were a good wizard. Or at least an okay wizard. They're not going to listen because we talk nicely, they're going to listen because we scare the shit out of them. He said, Which goes to show you that only getting to NCEA Level 2 isnt going to stop you making waves in life, right." (ntn. pg. 271)
"Nona had thrown exactly two tantrums in her entire life. She couldn't remember anything about the first one, but Pyrrha had told her about it. Pyrrha had been laughing with her mouth, but not with her eyes: her eyes had been very brown and distant and uneasy, as though this tantrum had reminded Pyrrha of something her brain didn't want to bring back." (ntn. pg. 275)
She mentions disco?? how does she know what disco is??? (ntn. pg. 362)
"Gideon… G-, you died for nothing." -Pyrrha (ntn. pg. 390)
“I remember P- behind a barricade… not dead yet… telling me, John, run.” (ntn. pg. 406)
Died pretty immediately after Mercy and Augustine, but before G1deon (ntn. Pg. 407)
“Who are you, foreigner, that you know the mysteries of the Anastasian?” “I was here before it was the Anastasian,” said Pyrrha absently. “Painted a nursery. Mint green.” (ntn. pg. 453)
“Cass and Mercy and I worked on cell thanergy- we need thanergy, fresh thanergy, to activate…” - Pyrrha (ntn. pg. 471)
“And Alecto said, Pyrrha, he laid me down as an appeasement to them; he fed you to them as an appeasement to them; but he has never appeased me, and now all he has done was teach me how to die.“ (ntn. Pg. 476)

notes on cristabel oct
here's all the relevant info on cristabel i took note of during my tlt reread, in one place!
you can find the rest of the posts in this project here!
CRISTABEL OCT
titles:
Mercymorn’s cavalier, first gen, founded the eighth (with Mercy)
name meaning: in latin the meaning of the name Cristabel is: beautiful christian/follower of christ
notes from harrow the ninth:
The reason Mercy is the Saint of Joy (htn. pg. 177)
Mercy won't talk about her to Harrow, even though John thinks she would, and that her name would upset Augustine (htn. pg. 177)
Augustine doesn't mind talking about her though, and says: "A total delight. Effervescent. Kind to animals and children. A master of the sword. Did not have the intellect you'd ordinarily find in a sandwich or an orange, and was a sickening twerp into the bargain. The Eighth House will never see her like again." (htn. pg. 177)
“‘You know what I feel… you know I don't think she was the best influence on Alfred… you know I think they brought out the worst in each other, and I don’t think you disagree.’ God said, ‘They were very similar people.’ ‘No,’ said Augustine. ‘They weren’t, John. She was a fanatic and an idiot- yes, she was, Mercy- and he… was a man who regretted he wasn't. It took surprisingly little to lead my brother astray.’” - Augustine and John, discussing whatever happened between Cristabel and Alfred (double suicide, maybe?) (htn. pg. 274)
Augustine hated her for sure, but he’s ok with pretending he didn’t for dios apate reasons (htn. pg. 279)
"Cristabel always said I was tidy." - Mercymorn (htn. pg. 410)
"you picked the wrong man to enter a suicide pact with. I hate 'em. Cristabel might have undone all my good work with Alfred, but here comes the reckoning." - Augustine (htn. pg. 487)
notes from nona the ninth:
"The only other people I put through that damn trial were Mercy and Cris, because only Cris didn't mind being trepanned on the regular."- Pyrrha, about her and G1deon's trial at Canaan house (ntn. pg. 84)
Was Mercy's nun best friend pre-resurrection (ntn. pg. 128)
"I was worried I was going to get the Antichrist bit from her too, but she was just like: stop doing this! Read your Bible! This was Christ's whole problem! I was like, What are you talking about, Jesus cured the lepers and everyone was all, Hooray, thanks man. M-'s nun was all, Are you kidding, Christ never said no and never asked anyone to pay and got everyone to pay way too much attention and brought the heat down on everybody, Christ didn't keep to office hours, she said. Don't do that." (ntn. pg. 190)
“Me in my bedroom with a nun and a migraine, her thinking that if she pushed me enough we’d instantiate the Trinity and we’d all be saved.” (ntn. pg. 399)
“Eventually it was the nun who changed things. She knocked on my door and said very nicely, John, how are you doing? And I said, Not great, honestly. She said, John, how close are you to finding the soul? And I said, I can’t, Sister, It’s too big. I don’t understand why it’s so huge. I can’t find the soul inside the body, I don’t know where to look. I don’t know what I’m doing. She prayed over me, and then she went away for the longest five minutes of my life. [...] Then the nun came back and knocked on my door and said, John, I think I have it. I know you’re very scared right now, but I’m going to help you. Please let me in. He said: I let her in. She’d brought P-’s gun. [...] She just smiled at me. She said, John, don’t misunderstand. I want to help you. I truly believe that in our most terrible hours we don’t instinctively reach out to God; we push ourselves away from Him. Don’t feel bad for not rising heroically to the occasion right now, Fear doesn’t help us achieve a state of grace; it deafens the heart. John, I truly believe you can save everyone. So concentrate, please. She said, Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for our sinners, now and at the hour of our death. And she shot herself.” (ntn. Pg. 404)

notes on loveday heptane
here's all the information about loveday that i found during my tlt reread!
(you can find the rest of the posts for this project here!)
LOVEDAY HEPTANE
titles:
Cytherea’s cavalier, second gen, from the seventh
notes:
“I didn’t want to do it [lyctorhood] either…I didn’t want to do it at all…but I was dying. Loveday- she was my cavalier- she and I thought it could make me live. Instead I’ve just kept dying, all this time.”- Cytherea, to Palamedes (gtn. pg. 402)
"I had a nice girl as a cavalier too… once." -Cytherea, to Camilla (gtn. pg. 415)
“And I knew [Cytherea] was sick, but I had no idea how bad it was until Loveday brought her in, looking as though she wanted every one of us beaten to death” - John, about Cytherea and Loveday (htn. pg. 119)
"'I will say this,' said Mercy presently, acting as though Augustine had never said a word. ' I never mourned for Loveday Heptane. She did one good thing with her life, and she knew it." (gtn. pg. 122)
The only nice thing God can say about her in his eulogy of her is that she provided Cytherea for them (htn. pg. 122)

notes on cytherea the first
here's all the information about cytherea that i thought seemed relevant during my tlt reread :-)
sorry for the delay halfway through posting these lol! i started school again and got. distracted
(you can find all the other posts from this project here!)
CYTHEREA THE FIRST
titles:
Seventh saint to ascend, second gen, from the seventh
notes from gideon the ninth:
Briefly wanted to be part of the Ninth when she was young, until she found out about the facepaint (although, she’s pretending to be Dulcie here, so maybe not) (gtn. pg. 105)
Was sending Pro’s body to check-up on the lyctoral labs/her old rooms without her, assumed from Pro saying “it’s shut” upon his return from elsewhere in Canaan house (gtn. pg. 108)
Very likely knew about Gideon's parentage, including Wake being her mother, as she comments "nice hair" after the avulsion trial (gtn. pg. 229)
“Do you know, it’s not worth it… none of this is worth it, at all. It’s cruel. It’s so cruel. You are so young- and vital- and alive. Gideon, you’re all right… remember this, and don’t let anyone do it to you ever again. I’m sorry. We take so much. I’m so sorry.” -Cytherea, to Gideon during the avulsion trial. (gtn. pg. 226)
"I more didn't want to die alone.  I didn't want them to put me out of sight. It's a horrible thing to fall out of sight… The Seventh would have sealed me in a beautiful tomb and not talked about me again. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. So I came here when the Emperor asked me… because I wanted to… even though I knew I came here to die." -Cytherea, to Gideon (gtn. pg. 294)
"If you want to know what I think… I think that you're a cavalier worthy of a lyctor. I want to see that, what you'd become. I wonder if the Reverend Daughter knows what she has in you?" -Cytherea, to Gideon (gtn. pg. 295)
“I didn’t want to do it [lyctorhood] either…I didn’t want to do it at all…but I was dying. Loveday- she was my cavalier- she and I thought it could make me live. Instead I’ve just kept dying, all this time.”- Cytherea, to Palamedes (gtn. pg. 402)
Was planning what happened at Canaan house for 300 years prior (gtn. pg. 402)
notes from harrow the ninth:
“When they first brought her to Canaan House, I thought there'd been some mistake. You know that I'd been to Rhodes, to see the miracle, but I asked not to see the woman- just so I could be a disinterested party- and of course once I saw that she was necromantic I said yes, she should come to me to be a disciple. She was just shy of thirty then, I recall. And I knew she was sick, but I had no idea how bad it was until Loveday brought her in, looking as though she wanted every one of us beaten to death, and she could hardly walk… I went to kiss her hello and she said: ‘Lord, I can’t kiss you back. My lipstick's’ perfect and I refuse to smear it.’”-John, about Cytherea (htn. pg. 119)
The one to say they had the choice to stop (htn. pg. 121)
"'I still think it was a crime of passion. I'm not saying she didn't have other reasons. It's just that I think some of them were heartbreakingly simple. I could have gotten through to her, given time,' said God. 'Time- it's always time- she was overworked and underloved." - John, about Cytherea & Canaan house (htn. pg. 155)
“Everyone liked her. [G1deon] liked her” -John (htn. Pg. 228)
Her favourite conversation to have at parties was debating who had the hottest cavalier (htn. Pg. 278)
Tried to plant a bomb close to the physical form of and RB, didn’t even get close enough to touch the surface, and had herald madness for several weeks (htn. pg. 337)
notes from nona the ninth:
Gave BOE information on obelisks and steles (ntn. pg. 156)

notes on mercymorn
similarly to my notes on augustine, my notes on mercymorn are pretty sparse, because i wasn't taking down anything that hinted at her personality! nonetheless, heres all my notes on mercy from my tlt reread (a lot of these are just things that i thought were goofy):
(you can find the rest of the posts in this project here!)
MERCYMORN
titles:
Second saint to ascend, first gen, founded the eighth, the saint of joy, (from BOE) source joyeuse
notes:
Thought Anastasia was pretty (pg. 79)
ALSO thought Cyrus was good looking, and compared Ianthe to him as well as comparing Harrow to Anastasia (htn. pg. 80)
Watched Cassiopeia die from the bank of the river (htn. pg. 105)
Anatomist (htn. pg. 177)
John says that G1deon doesn’t talk about her (alecto), but Augustine and Mercy still feel guilty about what happened (htn. pg. 345)
Gideon & Pyrrha liked Alecto despite the fact that the other lyctors (at least Mercy and Augustine) didn't (htn. pg. 479)
Mercy won't talk about Cristabel to Harrow, even though John thinks she would (htn. pg. 177)
"Cristabel always said I was tidy." - Mercymorn (htn. pg. 410)
Was brought on Johns tream originally because of her medical experience (ntn. pg. 13)
"The only other people I put through that damn trial were Mercy and Cris, because only Cris didn't mind being trepanned on the regular."- Pyrrha, about her and G1deon's trial at Canaan house (ntn. pg. 84)
was providing BOE with fleet schematics, the location of the Mithreaum and other info (ntn. pg. 155)
“I was all, Next cult, let’s go for teenage girls instead, write that down somewhere. M- was all, Are you kidding, at least with these guys we have a chance of getting out alive.” (ntn. Pg. 402)
“Cass and Mercy and I worked on cell thanergy- we need thanergy, fresh thanergy, to activate…” - Pyrrha (ntn. pg. 471)

CYRUS THE FIRST
titles:
Fifth saint to ascend, (??) gen, founded/was from the third (?)
name origin

Drew the sixth RB’s physical form into an ultramassive black hole and is assumed to be dead along with the RB (htn. pg. 43)
brought valancy's clothes to the Mithraeum (htn. pg. 146)
Had probably the most opulent room in the Mithraeum, with the huge nude portraits of himself and Valancy (htn. pg. 148)
They figured out Lyctors need to drink water only once Cyrus was "half-mummified" (htn. pg. 186)

notes on gideon (the first)
here's all the relevant info on gideon the first i took note of during my tlt reread, in one place!
(you can find the rest of the posts related to this project here!)
GIDEON THE FIRST
titles:
Third saint to ascend, first gen, founded the second, the saint of duty
notes from gideon the ninth:
G1deon & Pyrrha's room in Canaan house includes a drawing of a chimaera that Gideon describes as "familiar" (the imaging & response construct) and a picture on the wall of John and his pals (presumably) with everyone's faces scribbled out with a thick black marker. Also guns (gtn. pg. 205)
notes from harrow the ninth:
the saint of duty (htn. pg. 177)
most likely really freaked out the first time he saw an RB (htn. pg. 173)
Doesn't respond to pain? (htn. pg. 188)
Made a pact with an authority John has no control over (Alecto???? Pyrrha???) that he would protect John from all dangers (htn. pg. 194)
“The Saint of Duty was a thanergy void. The Saint of Duty was the ultimate nemesis of a bone adept.” (htn. pg. 225)
“The closest thing to interest [Gideon] ever showed in anybody was in Pyrrha, and in the criminals he hunted. [...] When he kicked that Edenite commander out an airlock, it was like seeing a man on his wedding day. Not exactly romance though… Harrow, over ten thousand years I’ve known that man, and he is legendarily unamourous. I have watched six other Lyctors carry out a myriad’s worth of inadvisable love affairs with one another, because it is a very long time to be alone, but never him. He was unassailable.” -John (htn. Pg. 228).
Is described by Augustine as getting really specific obsessions, has stopped listening to anyone, and has caused Augustine a lot of trouble in the last 40 years (htn. pg. 268)\
Pyrrha was ten years older than Augustine, so pre-resurrection G1deon was besties with a cop probably at least 20 years older than him ?? (htn. pg. 278)
John says that G1deon doesn’t talk about her (alecto), but Augustine and Mercy still feel guilty about what happened (htn. pg. 345)
"Don't know why Gideon was always so obsessed with [Wake]... he never cared about beauty, and she was repellent to talk to." - Mercymorn (htn. pg. 409)
Mattaius Nonius fought G1deon, and seems to owe Pyrrha a debt (htn. pg. 455)
I think John at least had some idea about G1deons memory loss/what was up with his and Pyrrha's lyctorhood based on how Pyrrha (pretending to be G1deon) says she didn't know anything about the affair with Wake (htn. pg. 473)
notes from nona the ninth:
"'I'd need my necromancer to teach Camilla.' 'Why?' 'Because you need teaching to be an asset, and Cam wants teaching to be a killer.'"- Pyrrha and Palamades (ntn. pg. 28)
Knew John since they were kids (ntn. pg. 74)
"No, I don't blame you man… He was always looking for things to throw himself on." -Pyrrha, talking about G1deon to Varun (??) (ntn. pg. 116)
The parallel to Gideon's death… i'm sooo normal.
Was an engineer pre-resurrection (ntn. pg. 129)
“P- volunteered to go with him, but G- said he wouldn’t arm it if P- was in range. P- went off at him, but it was one of those times where he held his ground against her. I remember. She called him a stupid kid. [...] I took G- downstairs and I got him to face the wall, and I took his arm off. [...] He didn’t feel any pain, and I grew him a new one then and there. Bit of a gamble, but I was sure I could do that by then. I wanted his arm… his material. He didn’t even ask me to explain. That was the kind of guy he was. He and I had grown up on the same street. I’d spotted him for mince pies all the time as kids, so stands to reason he let me cut off his arm and carried a nuke for me. [...] Should still be around here. The arm, I mean. I stuffed it in the morgue so nobody would find it. I've got plans for that arm.” (ntn. pg. 399)
“He was immovable. That was why I wanted him in: G- only listened to two people in his fucking life.” (ntn. Pg. 402)
Died from John reaching out to stop his heart (ntn. Pg. 407)
“I liked you. He liked you-  Gideon liked you. my necromancer and I always liked you… and hey, what's like except a love that hasn't been invited indoors?” - Pyrrha, to Nona (ntn. pg. 461)

notes on alfred quinque
here's all the information i found about alfred in my tlt re-read, in one place!
you can find links to the other posts in this project here!
ALFRED QUINQUE
titles:
Augustine’s cavalier, first gen, founded the fifth (with Augustine)
(from the harrow the ninth pronunciation guide) "NOTE: Yes, Alfred and Augustine share an arithmonym: the implications of this so early in the timeline of the Nine Houses aren’t so developed as they would be later on, but are still present."
notes from harrow the ninth:
Augustine's brother (htn. pg. 165)
The reason that Augustine is the Saint of Patience (htn. pg. 177)
“‘You know what I feel… you know I don't think she was the best influence on Alfred… you know I think they brought out the worst in each other, and I don’t think you disagree.’God said, “They were very similar people.’  ‘No,’ said Augustine. ‘They weren’t, John. She was a fanatic and an idiot- yes, she was, Mercy- and he… was a man who regretted he wasn't. It took surprisingly little to lead my brother astray.’” - Augustine and John, discussing whatever happened between Cristabel and Alfred (double suicide, maybe?) (htn. pg. 274)
“‘Nobody could lead him where he didn't want to go,’ said God, and his patience took a solemn edge. ‘You know that.’” -John, about Alfred (htn. pg. 274)
"You picked the wrong man to enter a suicide pact with. I hate 'em. Cristabel might have undone all my good work with Alfred, but here comes the reckoning." - Augustine (htn. pg. 487)
notes from nona the ninth:
"A- brought in his little brother who was a hedge fund manager. A- Junior was useless but he was a darling, I couldn't fault A- for adding him to the mix." (ntn. pg. 191)
"It was A-'s little brother who said, Well, you have to understand money is one big shared hallucination, but I'm not sure they could have hallucinated this much, none of this is even in crypto." (ntn. pg. 273)
"Apparently A-'s little brother and her nun had been obsessing over bank movements and assets. Going crazy checking manifests." (ntn. pg. 396)
“The nun and A- 's hedge-fund-manager brother had teamed up to try to mediate, which as per usual made everyone pissed off at them instead.” (ntn. pg. 401)
“A-’s little brother was there… dead in the middle… shot from both sides. Nobody likes a peacemaker.” (ntn. Pg. 406)
