people are being fucking annoying, yes. i completely understand that this sport, like any other, makes people feel things very passionately. like, yeah, it's one of the loveliest sports in the world. but because we only have 20 drivers on the grid it can create a really tight vacuum effect where people's opinions are...extremely heightened and a little dramatic? idk. the need to create drama comes with social media, i guess. unnecessary, if you ask me.

there are a few things going on here, yeah. i think people expected oscar to be danny ric 2.0 or carlos 2.0 and, well, while it's true the car is of course a large part of it, oscar is not them. he's lando's direct competitor at the moment, which wasn't ever really the case with them. and that's tough to handle internally, and to understand externally. so, there's an underlying expectation for oscar to roll over and let lando win. i think that's problematic for a few reasons, but specifically cause lando is adamantly opposed to it. and oscar shouldn't be expected to, either. all of a sudden oscar is no longer the happy go lucky guy who's making eyes at lando and fits people's narratives as a 2nd driver. that's the problem with having two consistently great drivers, i guess (again, not complaining, i'll take this every day of the week). but yes, ultimately, i think it's human to want to pit them against each other, but so, soooo counterproductive.

!!! yes. again, the social media effect. i gotta say as someone who's been around the sport for years, and who's attended a gp etc, i gotta say that most of the takes i see on x, for instance, are SO far removed from the actual things people say in an actual gp, it's unreal. there's a lot of animosity and hate and you know, the whole "easy to talk behind a keyboard" could not be truer. i attended last year's gp in austria and sat in the max verstappen grandstand (kind of by accident, but that's another story) and i gotta admit i was NERVOUS AS ALL HELL and thought i'd get strangled, basically. turns out the people around me where SUPER NICE and totally okay with me being a mclaren girly in a sea of dutchies. so. again. vacuum effect. sometimes we also need to learn to not engage (i say this to myself every day before getting into petty fights with people on x, lol). mclaren's the only one responsible for this mess, and they should be the only ones held accountable for it.

Not even that it’s anything I would necessarily say myself, but I think the level of harm/cringiness/negativity attached to it was kinda disproportionate and I think that’s mostly what reminded me of the other post I saw later on. To say you don’t pass judgement seems a bit removed from the rest of your argument. It seems like maybe there’s a slight projection going on about not getting something that other queer folks do get and feeling left out bc of that. Which is fair bc that is frustrating and difficult and it’s okay to not enjoy things and voice that. I think for me the biggest thing is that since puritanical values are so incredibly rampant if someone (especially someone of a historically oppressed group hence mentioning it before) feels love, respect, and tenderness in kink it’s pretty much always okay to leave that alone! Stays are such an interesting fandom. I literally just watched a fight unfold between multiple Felix and Hyunjin accounts, and Lee know vs Felix stans. I even ran into a minsungjin fan shitting on Seungmin and calling him annoying and bothersome, saying his energy is too “heavy” and that he has a negative aura around him, calling him a bully. I also witnessed accounts saying that Felix was faking his personality for the company.

I will never understand the wars within its own fandoms, and I think personally Stray kids has it the worst. I feel so bad for Stray kids, and I know not every stay is like that, but it’s such a disheartening thing to see. Why can’t we just love everyone ot8?? Why do people have to go out of their way to separate each member and bring others down. It’s so sad to see, and it may not be that serious to some, but as someone who really cares about the kids it really breaks my heart.

it’s moments like this why I refuse to call myself a Stay. Not for negative reasons, but because I’d rather just associate myself with the group rather than the fandom. I’d rather just indulge in strictly stray kids content and not bother interacting with stay fan accounts/stay accounts I know aren’t toxic. Like I said, I know it’s not everyone, because I have made some great friends by associating myself as a Stay, but this fandom is getting worse and worse by the day.

But YEAH this is a pretty good summary of many things said before anon...in particular it's genuinely disheartening how Qi Xiaotian's experiences have brought him from a state of being excited at the thought he could be like Sun Wukong to now being terrified that he's destined to be like the Monkey King...but then again how could be not be. We're now 4 seasons in and everything just gets worse and worse for the little monkey lego man in large part because of the things his shifu did or failed to do. At this point even with the hints of the torture headband making a significant appearance, trying to defend or even understand SWK's actions in the present kind of seems like a fool's errand, and I genuinely am worried that no backstory Flying Bark gives their version of the Monkey King will provide a satisfactory reason for why he acts the way he does. As it is there's been a pretty consistent flow of popular fan works about the Monkey King getting punched & yelled at & portrayed as completely in the wrong, and well I do not see that ending any time soon given the events of canon material :(

As always I want to note that I'm fully capable of being too negative and pessimistic & forgetting the good sides of SWK's lego show character and that yeah obviously there's a lot of other characters running around with more antagonistic intentions (including perhaps this mysterious person who may be behind Azure Lion being freed as part of some greater scheme). But between this already firmly established characterization of SWK as a liar who's ideas routinely end in nothing but catastrophe for even those he loves and the show itself pretty clearly having little interest in including SWK in the story's adventures outside of an explodey ending or being a problem that needs to be dealt with because of his disastrous decisions (given how much he keeps getting shoved out of the plot), well...you can see why many people think this could easily end with even Qi Xiaotian thinking Sun Wukong is a lost cause.

I don't think it's fair to assume someone's always free and is required to respond to us. Especially because, as mean as it sounds, we all have a life. Responsibilities, work, school, personal ish, and mental health can all restrict us from being active. At the end of the day this is just a hobby. It's supposed to be fun! You should never feel obligated to respond to someone!

On the other hand, I can kind of understand their frustration to an extent. There are times where it seems like you choose the same couple of users/anons to actively respond to (Which again is okay) But due to this, I can see how some people may feel hurt!

I think it might be helpful to both you and all of us, if you try to respond to your asks before releasing another fic - only because releasing another chapter/fic is going to lead to more feedback, which is only going to add to the overloading amount of asks you have so far! (I hope you don't take offense to this, I truly don't mean this in a negative way and am sorry if it seems that way!)

i do understand when someone feels frustrated about it — i think it's absolutely okay when someone asks "did you get my message", too. i just appreciate it when the tone is kind as well and not straight up rude, and for some reason i got more than just one of those yday lol. bc you're right, life does get busy, and there are days when i'm just able to answer 2 asks bc i'm either tired or busy. on these days, it gets hard to answer every single ask that comes in, and i hope everyone understands that, bc i'm definitely not ignoring anyone on purpose!!

i will also say — while it might seem like i only respond to messages by the same people, in reality i do actively answer most of the stuff i get.. or at least i try to do so for as many as possible, those by unsigned anons, too.. just not always all at once. i think it might seem that way bc some ppl send in messages every day or more often than others, so they end up being on my blog more often, does that make sense? sometimes they send 2-3 asks and then i even try to combine asks or space them out and answer other stuff in between, so it doesn't look like i prefer anyone. so yeah, i can assure that i don't actively pick out ppl to answer to. and with anons, unless they're signed, i can't even pick specific ones since you guys are.. well, on anon :')

I could see Lewis with someone like Taylor Russell like that other anon said. She’s a fashion it-girl (and I mean high fashion, in the way Lewis is), she’s famous and has her own career but not too famous to the point that I feel they could never see each other (I mean I actually don’t know her schedule but she seems quite private and she’s not one of those celebrities that you see papped or at events every other day). I could also see him date a fashion director or designer. And this a bit off topic but isn’t it “sad” when you see that almost every wag has no career outside being a girlfriend/wife, or the most they do is being an “influencer” but you can see it’s more a hobby than a real job for them? It’s so interesting to think about Lewis’ dating history bc the only long term relationship and the only woman he called his girlfriend was someone that at least at the beginning was more famous than him and has a strong personality, but in recent years he’s had no serious relationships and the only women he “”dates”” are almost kept hidden. If I had to play psychologist for a second (keep in mind this is just a random theory and I’m aware I might be totally wrong) these might be the reasons: 1) these women are “willing” to sign ndas (I’m guessing maybe someone famous wouldn’t be as willing to do it) and therefore he can be more private with his personal life in a way that he wouldn’t be if he was seen with famous women 2) he dates women he knows he won’t fall in love with since he’s been clear that his only focus will be f1 until he wants to retire. I don’t see him with someone like this long term but who knows. What do u think?

  you always spoke with him. sat with him on the bus, at lunch, in class, sitting. talking. more of he spoke, you listened. even though the other students came to ask questions, they never stayed. the simple existence of two of you, two kids, with the parents you had was too much.

  the old stories of l’manburg, manburg, pogtopia, the infamous button room, the burnt mushroom house, the obsidian walls, logstedshire, the disc confrontation, pandora’s vault, all of it. every story, every tale, included your father. in history class you were stared at, you and the piglin boy. when students wanted to ask about the historical figures they learnt about, it was to the two of you. and you hated it.

  the attention, it was never on you. always him. whether it was from students, teachers, family, friends, hell, even the hecking sheep that belonged to the fading soul of a long gone man cared more for the kid. not even tommy, your father, paid more attention to you. he was always out, causing trouble even now. tubbo and ranboo, despite their efforts to keep michael safe, had somehow ended up with him becoming even more of a trouble maker than the three of them combined. you would much rather spend time with the fading soul, listening to his songs as you sat on the glass covering a crater. he claimed it gave him inspiration, to sit above the symphony he never finished.

  so, when you saw the small boy talking to others at lunch, you were conflicted. was it good, good he had gained more people, more friends? you never enjoyed sitting with him, having to listen to him speak for hours. he never even realized he was being annoying, causing trouble.  so, shouldn’t this have solved your problems? knocked them down the drain?

  and yet, you felt bad. staring at them on the playground, your soul hurt. you didn’t want to be like the fading soul, to feel like this. michael, turned to look behind him. the look on his face seeming like it was begging for you to walk over there. but you felt guilt. and so, you ran.

  “ghost!” you ran above the glass, making sure your steps weren’t too heavy footed.

  he looked up, from his sheet music and the guitar. “oh, hello. are you just getting back from school?” the area around was abandoned. after so many years of being near such a negative place, everyone left. deserted it. all that was left was the glass and the small, somehow still standing structures. at the very bottom of the pit was a sea of red, always growing but never moving, sitting dead yet alive.

  “yeah. it was a long day today. and i need advice. but first, do you have any music for me?” you sat in front of him, pulling out extra snacks from lunch out of your back.

  “music later, speak now. what’s wrong? do you need some blue?” anytime you seemed upset, ghost gave you blue. when tommy saw, he was nervous. more distant. you didn’t want him to see it, you didn’t want to drive him away. so, you used the dye for other things. your pants, your shirts hoodies, what ever could be dyed. all of it, a deep blue the color of old, burnt suits, used for a country few actually remembered.

  “no, no blue today, ghost. i still have some from last time, so thank you. and i need to ask a question. if i do not like someone, should i help them when they are in trouble?” you laid back, the cold of the glass hitting your neck.

  “it really depends, what has this person done? in the past, i’ve been wronged by others. heavily.” in his eyes, you could see the healing wounds that may never form, as he felt the blue wool in his hands. the memories of a father and a brother and a sheep, you could see them in the fading soul. 

  “i was helped, or at least he tried to help me. i didn’t like him. as far as my knowledge goes, he did not like me. he hurt those i loved. even so, he helped me. tried to save me. it backfired, badly. but he still tried. i owe him my gratitude, i wish i could repay him. for all he’s done.” he stared down, reminiscing. the ever living dying red shone in the setting sun.

  “so, to conclude, you should help him, in my opinion. i think its good, to help others, even when they’ve wronged you. build amends, y’know?” he looked down to you, who was sitting silently.

  “thanks ghost. can you play me something now?” you watched him sigh. you needed to think about what to do, how to go about this. slowly, you heard the faint sounds of a guitar begin.

  “the cute bomber jacket you've had since sixth form…”

  in the morning, you were ready. at school you pestered michael to no end, speaking when he didn’t. he looked sad? here’s some blue dye my friend gave me , its supposed to make you happy! it’s even the same color of that sheep you like. when the older boys tried to approach him at lunch, you ran with him over to the swings.

  “michael, push me on the swings! after i’ll push you and we can try to knock each other off!” he pushed you higher and higher and higher. piglins are stronger than you expected.

  for weeks, it was like this. constant talking. michael, despite his usual talkativeness, was quiet. it was tuesday, and you couldn’t find him anywhere. what if those boys were rude to him? is he gonna get hurt? he may be strong, but he’s small. you found him surrounded by taller boys in the corner.

  “hey!” you screamed at them, inwardly terrified. dad had always said to be strong so be strong, ‘don’t be a pussy’ he would say (in a joking manner of course).

  “the hell you gonna do, shortie?” on of the boys turned around, laughing at you.

  “go away!” the boys chuckled again and you felt the anger flow through you. “fuck off you pussies! you cunts!” you screamed at them, using words you’ve heard your dad say. you pushed them over and grabbed michael’s hand. time to run. the boys chased you throughout the woods as you made your way to the location. once you reached the small forest clearing, they were gone. you started walking with him to the crater.

  michael was silent before looking at you. “... why’d you help me? i thought you hated me.”

  “i... i don’t hate you. not anymore at least! i was mad for dumb reasons and found you annoying because of that. but now, i know that its fine.” you tried to explain your self to him.

  “i always talked to you because i don’t like talking to others. i didn’t want you to feel lonely. i know uncle tommy doesn’t talk with you much. he gets nervous.”

  this was new information. “why does dad get nervous?”

  “i think it has something to do with his own dad. he might be scared of being like him, disappointing you.”

  “...oh. i’m sorry. for being bad to you.”

  “it’s okay. we’re friends now, right?” he looked over to you, smiling.

  you stared down at him. “yeah, yeah we are.” after some silent walking, you arrived at the crater. ghost was sitting on the glass.

  “ghost!” you ran to him, dragging michael with him. “ghost, this is michael. michael, this is ghost.” you proudly stood, making michael shake hands with him. he visibly cringed at the coldness of ghost’s hand.

  “oh, hello michael. would you like some blue?”

  you all sat, talking. you told michael about ghost’s guitar skills and the two of you forced him to play you songs. you were friends now, and it would stay that way.

  when the sun went down and you got home, your parents were pissed. your dad was on his knees, crying. he held you in a hug around your waist. “why are you crying?”

  “i was so worried about you. don’t do that shit to me again, okay?” you looked up at you and held your face in his hands.

  “...okay dad. okay.” you bent down and hugged him as the fading soul watched from a distance.

I feel like the nature of Light’s ideology and his methods get caricatured a great deal in the fandom (especially by those who only viewed the anime). I keep seeing popular memes about Light killing petty shoplifters who are only attempting to feed their family and I always get the sense that they’re largely inaccurate (for the most part). Light notices in the Yotsuba arc that Kira’s sentencing spares those: who’ve served their sentences and improved their ways, who committed justifiable crimes, and who have shown remorse. So it feels off to seeing portrayed that way, especially when Light’s elimination of innocents (such as the FBI agents, Naomi, etc...) are usually for strategic purposes, intended to help him progress ahead. Not to mention this pervasive belief that Light apparently didn’t know that he would be bound to sentence some innocents to death (with his large kill count per day). Wouldn’t it be more likely that Light knew that it was inevitable and was willing to sacrifice those lives for “the greater good,” in his view?

This is a doozy of an ask, anon. But it is GLORY bc these are all excellent things for me to ramble about Light (thank you!). I’ll take them point by point, strap in cause this is a bit long. *cracks knuckles*

You’re absolutely right that fandom often boils Light’s character and ideology down to a few basic elements that are distorted, mostly to drag him. Let’s be honest-- it’s fun to drag characters, even our favs-- and pretty much everyone in Death Note deserves it. But it does become annoying when its inaccurate, like with your example about who Kira focused on killing and some others I see. To be clear, this isn’t any kind of apology for the bastardly things Light DID do, but clarifying what he was and wasn’t about.

Did Light kill petty criminals?

The only time it is mentioned that Light kills criminals for non-serious crimes is when he was under surveillance by L (the infamous potato chip scene) and had to kill someone on the news right then, as well as the immediate coverup. In that circumstance, he couldn’t afford to be picky-- he needed L to see a signature Kira death (heart attack) when Light supposedly couldn’t be doing it. The crimes that appeared on the news that night (in his chip bag TV lol) ended up being non-serious criminals, and Light wasn’t so thrilled about this. 

Mainly because it meant he had to cover his tracks and kill a few more minor criminals so it really did look like Kira’s work. 

But his focus was putting himself in the clear with L; those minor criminals were incidental, and when he had choice/freedom again, he did not focus on them. The ruse didn’t completely work because L thought minor criminals dying was suspicious since it deviated from Kira’s usual MO. So, L knew the real focus.

This was a strategic move in service of, versus reflecting, Light’s ideology. This is something we see pop up again and again for Light. He is willing to do ‘wrong’ for the greater ‘good.’ We also see his distaste for killing petty criminals later when Light rebukes Mikami’s off-script killings in his thoughts. If Kira had been acting this way all along, then the Task Force wouldn’t have been surprised and Light wouldn’t have been pissed off that Mikami was doing it. 

Kira was looking for violent criminals who had escaped justice, that’s his main goal. He’s also disagreeing with Mikami’s methods of punishing wrong-doers who paid their debt to society (as opposed to the Death Row criminals I discuss below who haven’t ‘paid their debt’ yet). He doesn’t want people to fear Kira and thinks shooting fish in a barrel, so to speak, would do that. His ideology is not punitive; to him, its about prevention. Petty crime wasn’t on his radar until he had to make that a temporary focus for his safety.

Did Light focus on criminals already in prison? 

I’ve seen plenty of posts in the Death Note tag grousing about how Light was ‘dumb’ because he only focused on criminals in prison, but that’s not wholly accurate. The first two names he wrote were criminals he witnessed in the process of a crime with actual victims that needed help (a hostage scenario where the perp had already murdered people, and a man about to rape). Then he went for the Big Bads in the news- the most vicious criminals world-wide.

Other than criminals at large, he DID kill some criminals in prison. The times he did so were:

1) Killing criminals on Death Row who, in the eyes of law enforcement, “deserved the death penalty several times over.” These are criminals who had already been sentenced to die and Kira enacted the ‘justice.’

2) During Light’s ‘testing phase’ of the Death Note when he was trying to understand the rules in a population he could control 

3) When he was trying to be conspicuous about deaths for L’s benefit, like throwing off the assumption that Kira was a student. Light knew that those deaths would be found immediately and attributed to Kira. 

For 2 and 3, these criminals were likely to be on Death Row given what was said by INTERPOL about who Kira was killing behind bars. Ironically, even L thought Death Row criminals needed to die-- he chose Lind L Tailor from Death Row for his stunt, and said on TV he’d seek the death penalty for Kira. Hmm.

Why did Light kill innocent people?

The innocent people that Light killed include Raye Penber, the rest of the FBI agents in Japan investigating Kira, and Naomi Misora. L and Watari might be considered innocent per Kira’s ideology (Watari had probably murdered people but L had probably not, directly). Rem technically killed L and Watari, but Light certainly wanted them to die and orchestrated it that way. The innocent people that Light WOULD have killed include the Task Force (Mogi, Aizawa, Matsuda, Ide) and the SPK (Halle, Gevanni, Rester, Near,) if he’d won in the warehouse.

The main thread tying all these people together? They were all imminent threats to Light and were actively trying to stop and/or kill him. Killing them would never have crossed his mind if that hadn’t been the case. THAT DOESN’T MEAN HE DIDN’T ENJOY IT. Taking out his enemies was something Light did savor, he really loved that win. But it wasn’t like he wiped out the entire FBI or Japanese police force. Those were not his targets; these were individuals who threatened his goal and life, and he saw their killing as self-defense. 

Did Light kill any criminals who were innocent or wrongly convicted?

It’s certainly possible that he did but the manga never touches on it. Given that his MO for killing incarcerated criminals was limited to Death Row, he probably felt like those were safe bets (we know that’s not always the case in the real world, of course). But let’s say that Light, in canon, found out he’d killed someone wrongfully convicted. In the beginning of his journey as Kira (at 17-18), I honestly don’t think he’d given this a lot of thought. What’s funny is that Light was naively, and paradoxically, putting a lot of faith in the human justice system while simultaneously enacting his own justice that relied on having zero faith in the traditional channels. Makes my head spin, but Light is a fascinating character because of that kind of thinking. He championed sweeping ideals of right and wrong, but couldn’t be bothered with getting in the murky details. 

But by the time he’d grown up and matured some, especially after becoming part of the police force himself, he would have know it was a possibility. At that point, I agree that he’d view it as an inevitable sacrifice in service of, but not directly reflecting, his ‘greater good,’ like the previous choices he’d made. 

So why is Kira’s ideology so often distorted? For one thing, his thinking is kind of convoluted. The anime has less nuance about what Light’s about, and many people just watch that. Another common reason I see for this is that someone really, really hates Light for defeating L, and once we dislike someone it becomes easier to roll in more and more unlikeable qualities into a nasty villain pie. Any trait that is ‘bad’ can be overlaid onto Light because he is ‘bad,’ so it fits right?? Ha....no. He has plenty of bad traits and actions of his own to drag him for without inventing new ones. At the same time, I see L’s flaws and negative traits/actions being hand-waved away or justified because he is their fav. It happened with Minoru, too.
