i definitely think. a lot of the wider fandom that ships them does NOT do it in a way that's accurate to either of their characters (and good GOD i know how annoying it is when ur just Not Into the Token Main Ship of a fandom. i feel your pain so so so so much) and like honestly. my ideal klance dynamic is kind of a qpr situation where they are very important to each other but it's not necessarily Romantic or whatever. but i'm the resident aspec qpr enjoyer of this world so. Hello! Sorry for replying to this so late!

Basically, the "fandom" as such or fanbase has been so small online, that to me I was not sure it existed even xD But yes! I am still a Jade fan :D Jade Armor is the best cartoon! It's not even that old to me, I just started watching it in the spring of 2023, when it started airing here again. So I've been a fan for just a year or so since march!

I'm curious where this question comes from!

Would be nice if there were more fans online, but honestly, I have always thought that maybe that's a monkey's paw wish - and that really, it's a bit nice exchange of fate in a way - that it seems that while the online fandom is small, perhaps the show has many offline fans, people actually watching it across multiple channels! (since it's available both on big channels like RTL, but also online in their online versions, maybe it just has many viewers from there)

and it's a fun show with a very cool style and premise, so I'm happy if it has fans at all, whether I actually see them online or not. So I haven't been very active in fandom spaces myself, mostly posting fanart online, because I just don't have time + energy as much for some fandom stuff anymore I guess xD

bc there's so few fancontent online, I really appreciate that the official jade armor insta has so much info and posts about it.

I've seen a lot of shows go under after it's been decided they're not profitable, or similarly, many fandoms sorta dwindle and become smaller after the show has been cancelled, so... it's nice to know that, if a 2nd season really has been put into production (as we've seen announced online), that the shareholders behind the show are willing to fund the studio to make another season. I'm really curious to see where they could be going with the story and characters, since the world and relationships they've shown feel really well-built, like they're real and there's history there. So I'm just happy to see if it will really be aired and that the team has put as much care and effort in as in the first season. I really like the show!

I might put up more fanart, since I've been doing sketches recently, but have been thinking of posting more fanfic too. The show should have at least one fanfic on AO3 (by me), but havent had time to finish more. I'm curious to see more but not really as sad about it since the fandom itself is still very new!

One thing I'd maybe like to personally change is like, make a small wikipedia for it? not on the current main fanwiki site, but just a small one for reference? and another thing is... the tvtropes page? TVtropes in general has so much misinfo sometimes since no one is obligated to keep refs and it's based on "fandom memory" haha... but it's so weird to me how much of the text there is ppl comparing Jade Armor to Miraculous, even tho they are such different shows after the first glance xD Seriously! you can make normal comparisons without letting ppl know how much you hate the other show xD

it's a similar situation to earlier fanbases like ppl comparing Winx vs WITCH, Jake Long vs Juniper Lee, The Book of Life vs Coco... it's as if online cartoon fans apparently just have nothing better to do than make their shows fight xD

This is the part where I have to shill The Devil's Crown again, which probably is the series that really leans on that sort of oedipal weirdly affectionate/resentful/close relationship a lot when it comes to Richard and Eleanor, even moreso because it shows their relationship and interesting attachment to each other over time (one of those cases too where when you cast the motherson actors around the same age they tend to develop a certain chemistry...) You can DM if you're interested in that.

Also if you like crumbs, the Dan Jones documentary about Henry II's dramas is very cheesy but there are some *hm emoji* moments by the reenactors that I of course find very amusing

Honestly it also is fun to just read the historical writings as well with The Goggles bc even though there's not a lot of records of course of people's internal individual thoughts and feelings kind of the Professional Structure of people's relationships are always very fascinating. For me, I'm always drawn to stories where Maternal inheritance plays a big role and that's a theme that comes up in all the stories I feel when talking about Eleanor and Richard, they're connected not just bc of familial affection etc but with very material and practical connections of land, wealth, and ancestral title (being invested with the symbols of the rule of Poitou and Aquitaine early on as extension of her authority as well, Henry bringing her out of jail to manipulate Richard into giving her his claims, etc). It becomes an interesting basis and skeleton, I guess, to project emotion upon...TLIW takes a lot of advantage of this where a lot of the story is about the characters who have human emotions towards each other but it's channeled through desperately demanding and wanting to control each others lands.

The oedipal kind of interpretation of seems to be kind of almost taken for granted in some of the earlier writings from the 1970s and before such as in the writings of James Brundage in his Richard Lion Heart (1974). I also can't find it now but I also remember coming across some amusing blogs that wrote about the two of them in very hmmm Romantic-ish ways that on one hand was interesting to me but also clearly felt like it was doing a lot of projecting on these people's emotions and motivations XD in general.

I believe those kinds of assumptions of the era are the ones that John gillingham and Jean Flori were criticizing and pushing back on in their scholarship since it relies on some pretty wild assumption making about Richard and Eleanor's personalities and internal motivations that are impossible to know, as well as very dated and prejudiced ideas about "aberrant sexuality" (obviously, if u hate ur dad and love ur mom this is clearly GAY HOMOSEXUAL behavior according to these ppl...) . Overall the psychoanalyst fanfictions are not great for an objective historical analysis but they ARE fun for the literary freak goggles definitely

Just wanted to know your opinion but do you think Wu Xie has abandonment issues? I've noticed in Ultimate Note that he's always panicking when Xiao Ge leaves or disappears for a short while. Is he also like that in the main novel/spin-offs?

Tbh no, I never felt like he has any abandonment issues in general. It's just his Xiage issue haha

It's just.. in the books Wu Xie's feelings (since its all from his point of view) for Qiling and their relationships while slowly and perfectly developing during the whole story, have these two points when the tone of them drastically changes and they make a huge jump. And both after after bronze gates. Ultimate Note is set after Heavenly Palace, the first time Xiaoge goes behind the bronze gate (just not for a long time), and that was the first time Wu Xie got scared that he might not see him again. Thats why in UN he's so panic-y about his sudden disappearances. Before that first 4 books, its just them bickering and getting to know each other. I mean Wu Xie is clearly curious, interested in finding out more about him there, but mostly its just he's happy when he's there (but at times pretends like he's not lol), happy when he feels comfortable enough to laugh and joke with them and they just love to annoy each other too xD It's mostly silly and even when Qiling suddenly disappears, depsite the "que???", it doesn't bring out any anxiety in him.

But after Qiling disappears behind the bronze gates the first time without saying anything and comes back (that's when UN takes off), and this whole period up to the 2nd major most painful 10 years separation, Wu Xie's feelings and the way he behaves with him majorly change from the first 4 books. During UN times, its the first time when Wu Xie becomes upset about Xiaoge not telling him things, like in the books he was just pissed about the whole "no one's gonna miss me if I'm gone" Xiaoge's no past, no future talk. Thats also when starts to get jealous of ppl hanging out with Qiling, and he gets very pissy when someone implied that he acted like a jelly bean. It's where he starts to have all these feelings he doesn't know how to handle, where the realization comes that he misses him and he doesn't want to be apart from him, and also start to appear his most idiotic thoughts that'll blow up soon about the "I'm just a random person he passes in his long life, obviously I'm not important for him lalalalala" (WHICH FUCKING U DUMB FUCKING STUID I"M LMAO).

So yeah, during UN times he's very... easily irritated when it comes to Xiaoge things. And he literally just doesn't know what to do with himself there, bc he doesn't undestand what it is for real.

And the 2nd major change in their relationships ofc goes after the 10 years separation and him going behind the gates for the second time. Then it all goes kaboom. All of his confusion, constantly being scared of losing him and leaving without explanation stuff make him angry and it all just blows up. All that walking him to the mountain thinking he was going there to die, Wu Xie not wanting to let him go anymore, but being left with no choice by Xiaoge himself... and the dam was broken. Heart crushed, tears, anger T_T

All this period from the end of the HP to this, Wu Xie's mp3 can be Birdy's version of only know you love him/her go, you know "and you see him as you fall asleep, never to touch and never to keep".

After that he just loses him mind and goes on his bananas "fuck our ancestors, I'm gonna kill all of you fuckers" spree. And its all too painful for me.

So the 2nd time his boo returns to him and the "Restart" part is again when Wu Xie's behavior with Xiaoge again drastically changes. The anger is gone, all that's left is this heartbreaking longing and he just treasures every second, every look, every touch but doesn't push it, cause with his whole dying situation he thinks of himself as no one special for him, like an idiot he is, even after Xiaoge's "you're the only thing that ties me to this world" and everything, he still goes on his "I'm just a dust, a no one he'll soon forget blah blah" (🙄) that he's going through the first part of the Reboot. And that period when he's sick after the dream he also realizes that his feelings are a romantic ones. So its just... I'm fucking tired of these moron. I've never been this exhausted by the ship lmao. But it's worth all the pain. All their soft, married things are killing me, so thats my fav period now xD

In Restart Wu Xie is very "I accepted that its impossible and accepted that you can leave any moment, but I'm gonna treasure each moment you're here". And like he just knows that eventually Qiling will return to him, he is 100% sure about (in UN I feel like he wasn't sure, so that got him so jumpy), but bc he was in so much pain after these 10 years without him and wants him to stay, but can't ask, it's horrible each time. He's just so silent about it there, but his thoughts are gonna make you cry. Like he won't yell or be pissed about his sudden leaves like in UN (xD), he's just depressingly waiting for his return and gets extremely happy when he's with him again.

So yeah, in UN he's still young (but not too young for it not to finally hit) and after the first separation it all kicks in but he's kinda mad about all the "weird" feelings so he's like that. And he's still very sensitive and doesn't hide his emotions very well. I mean, in the show he's pretty decent actually, in the book its much worse, its hilarious lmao.

So the way I see it... it was just that he got the first taste of "I might not see him again" after the bronze gate sight scare, and the feelings were developed by then and started to break through, but they were not in the stage when he was like "he'll always come back to me, he's not actually leaving leaving" yet (like later on), so thats why the panic. Its just all new.. and unsureness is there.

So he's different about Xiaoge leaving during different periods of time.

I didn't feel like he has any abandonment issues like in general while reading the books. I mean, yeah, there's Wu Sanxing thing, but Wu Xie he's like he's always surrounded by many ppl who care for him a lot and I didn't feel like he has some reactions to anyone coming and going. It's all pretty much okay. It's just the Xiaoge "abandoning" him issues LOL... Or just love I guess :) Since it wasn't always like that, but then the times came when he just didn't want to be without him anymore <3 (and started throwing tantrums like "its not you anymore, it us" since UN xD)

They didn´t like the fact that you did not make others work for you while you did nothing but enjoy life as a royalty. (Not gonna lie I was inspired by a character of another anime I recently started. XD). They wanted you to follow the words of the elders and simply focus on your appearance so the prince can fall in love with you.

- You hated your life there. You hated your family. You hated the norms and values they lived there. The only thing you wanted was to get out and live your life as a normal human being when Ace appeared out of nowhere and dragged you around the island in hope to find a good restaurant that served good meat.

- This might sound ridicoulus but that was your first encounter. Your first encounter with a man that did not bow in front of you, placed a kiss on your knuckles, made you tons of compliments and had a stupid conversation about the weather.

- He came up to you and asked if the old grumpy looking man was botheting you and if you wanted him to punch him. He was ready to fight the stranger for a stranger. But when you told him that the grumpy man was your father he shrugged his shoulders and just repeated his question. His beahviour made you laugh and you told him that as much as you wanted him to be punched in the face he still was your father. So you asked for his name and lead him around the park you currently were at. But the poor man got bored and made you lead him to the market so he could eat.

- Whenever you would think about your first encounter with him you would be smiling and thanking the gods for sending you such a good hearted and nice man. A man that slowly and with more days and weeks passing turned into your boyfriend who turned you, a well mannered and raised royal into a navigator of one of the strongest pirate crews.

- Ace never held you back from doing what you liked or wanted to try. In fact he always encouraged you to keep doing that and always made sure no one was bothering you.

- There was one think you really appreciated. And that was his habit of always being around you. No matter what the circumstances were. There was a party? He always made sure to keep an eye on you. The whitebeared pirates were docking on one of their islands? Ace would be holding your hand and show you around. He would go out to eat. He would always drop by at your cabin to ask if you wanted to join him.

- Ace knew that you didn´t like being alone since you were always left alone by your family so he alwys tried his best to accompany you.

- As much as you loved and appreciated him, there was one thing that always and forever will be overwhelimg to you. and that’s the fact that the most energetic and reckless man was able to fall asleep in a blink of an eye. Like you could be talking to him and look away for a second just to find him snoring on the ground when you searched for his eyes. Like WtF! How is he able to sleep on the ground so peacefully?!

i’ve seen quite a lot of ppl saying that no one said WKX died in the end XD so it’s not a BE - technically not wrong. in the last monologue by YBY overlaying WKX’s sadass flashback and shit, he does indeed not say anything about the person having to give up his life BUT- seriously semantics. and since when because a direct word isn’t used =/= death? you get what i mean? 

it’s pointless to say the word ‘die’ or ‘dead’ wasn’t used which = he didn’t die. this is really the saddest argument i have ever seen. i’m pretty sure we’ve all got a tad bit more creativity in prose and tropes and metaphors and what not. 

Exchanging a life for someone else 要用你的性命去换

1. YBY first off asked WKX if he was willing to use his life in exchange for Zhou Zishu’s. It is exactly what he said. This is exactly what the phrase means - you don’t give up your life in exchange and continue living. That’s not how to phrase works, well at least most of the time as far as I’ve seen the phrase being used.

2. WKX was prepared to die. His dialogue and flashback, him deceiving ZZS into thinking that this would be a happy, safe procedure that would do WKX no harm. I mean... it is portrayed that he is ready to die in exchange for ZZS. He said, “The one who keeps on living is the one who’ll live in pain.”

for all purposes, WKX and YBY knew WKX was gonna die. There really is no arguing with this.

of course, did the SCRIPTWRITER intend for it to be that way, who knows? Yes, ZZS did grab onto WKX twice and symbolically he “held on” and kept him from dying or there are theories that WKX was more powerful and managed to escape any deadly effects, or even some wild ones where YBY comes in somehow to save WKX after. Been there, read a dozen of theories.

i’m saying it’s a BE because YBY sent WKX there to die in ZZS’ stead. That’s what that sentence means. OF COURSE whether YBY had some backup plan in the works we don’t know right, but the end of 36 was gut wrenching because WKX was there to die. His speech showed that he was there to die. 

if you didn’t have a dollar to spare and didn’t see leaks you would have thought it is a BE, and because it WAS set up as a BE. we all definitely would have tried to convince ourselves that it’s an ‘open’ ending - but you can’t deny that at the end of 36, the grief and anguish on ZZS face, and WKX being non-responsive, AND also the rest of the episode not mentioning them. it was a BE set up. 

cast said they did film two endings (or more, according to GJ, but can we trust him he’s such a clumsy dumb dumb hahaha), they didn’t say it was both HE.

my point to this is that, yes, yay we got the HE in the end, after some erm surrender to capitalistic evil, but i do still think that they went full on BE with 36. they set it up right there, just looking at it. we don’t know what goes on in between or after because we are never shown, and don’t tell me yall have zero confusion as to how he’s still alive.

this ain’t me trying to convince you that it was a BE, it is me trying to say that I feel it is a BE, so don’t come and try convince me otherwise hahaha like i’ve seen in comments lmaooo to my incoherent ramble post last night after the finale. i ain’t trying to deter you from thinking it’s a HE or open ending or shit - although i honestly stand by the fact that the comments of “no one used the word dead or die!! he not dead!!” are a tad bit ridiculous if that’s what you’re going on XD

25. What scene in I'll keep you safe took you the longest? What was difficult about it to write?

Honestly, probably the fight scenes at Cider Lake. Probably bc I find it pretty challenging to write fighting scenes in general. Another scene that took long to write was probably the recent Aether scene when he talks about his time with Dainsleif. I didn't know how to approach that particular moment. It was so dialogue heavy and I still don't know how to feel about it. To me ch 27 sounds so choppy, idk. I think ch 27 took me the longest in general so far. :D

28. Any scene that you are surprised no one has picked up on yet?

Ohhh a tough question and I've been skimming through I'll keep you safe for that. And honestly only one scene comes to mind. I think it was the first Diluc scene? Where they met up at Angel's share. After Albedo, Kaeya and Venti were kicked out, there was a bottle landing on the wall inside the tavern. Wait let me look that scene up

I Finished Tsumugu Logic!! Overview/Rant

It took me a month, but I finished the last chapter of the game and got the true ending. I will keep playing to get all of the other bad ends, etc. 

I have so so many feels about this game, y’all. I will be highlighting a few chapters in the game, so if you haven’t finished it. Beware of spoilers!!

[MANY SPOILERS/ENDINGS BELOW]

To recount my feelings throughout the game for each character: 

1. Tsumugu is a cutie pie. I actually really related to him, because I’m also at that point in my life where I have to decide what exactly I want to do for the rest of my life. I just finished university, but I’m still unsure about my career ahahah. So, seeing Tsumugu struggle to figure his life out was refreshing. 

2. “Sosei” is so hot. I laid eyes on him and thought, uh-oh, he’s my new addiction ahahah. I would buy his merchandise if there was any. The dude loves sweets (how cute is that) and he has such a good head for mysteries (my dream man). Plus, he’s a tsundere but really cares about Tsumugu, often giving hints and advice to him. He’s a very trustworthy older brother/senpai. I could gush over how much I love Sosei for ages. His drunken habits -> those are to die for. He becomes so lewd and straightforward. I love it. 

“Koyo”, on the other hand, I didn’t like him as much as Sosei. Which is weird, cause I love ikemen. Maybe I’m just drawn more into the withdrawn, mysterious guys?? I do like the concept of twin brothers though. I have a bit of a dirty mind so when the twins said they shared everything, even their gf, I was like ohohoho, 3p? 

I absolutely enjoyed the twins together though. I love seeing them pretend to be the other. I wish they had more of an appearance lol. I could even say that Sosei and Koyo are a scale higher than Tsumugu for me. I wish the twins were the main protagonists ahahah. No offense Tsumugu. 

I’ll just summarize my first impressions for others real quick: 

3. Kotoko - I thought she was cute, but I never really liked her and couldn’t quite pinpoint exactly why. This feeling will come into play later on. So at first, I was like meh, she’s okay, I guess. But, as I learned more about her, I really didn’t like her character that much. I mean, I wouldn’t say I hated her but I didn’t find her as a good fit for Tsumugu. 

- When she told Tsumugu to be a salesman or whatever. I was like, do you even know Tsumugu? Lmao. I didn’t know if it was just me empathizing with Tsumugu cuz I’ve often been told of what I should be, but no one asks what I want to be. 

- When she didn’t want to help Mirei, I thought how odd, for someone who tries to befriend everyone, she’s not doing so well as a heroine. I mean, it was realistic, at least. But, I think the chapter where she admits that she tries really hard to fit in so others will like her was starting to draw some red flags for me. It made me wonder how much of her was ‘real’. Idk if I’m making any sense though.

- When she swung the knife at Tsumugu, I didn’t hate her as much as I did when she swung the knife at Sosei (who protected Tsumugu) and killed him. I was furious then. 

4. Sally - I admit I was really turned off by the girly lolita style. Mainly because I’m more tomboyish irl. But, she had a good sense of justice so I actually liked her. It did come as a shock to me though that she was the “gorilla” girl that was forced to kiss Nozaki. Tbh, I was kinda sad she died at the end. Like, I know she killed Hikone, but I could understand her motive better than I could understand Kotoko’s motive. Maybe cuz I have an older brother and can’t see myself being a brocon? ahahah. 

5. Toma - In terms of hotness, he comes 2nd right after Sosei. He’s a really good friend. And I absolutely adore how he scares ppl with his glare lol. i love yankees ahaha. He’s not afraid to speak his mind. He’s a very solid character.

6. Daimon - My girl crush. High key curious who she’s arranged to marry because her fiance seems boring. Who takes an hour to choose a handkerchief? Anyways, Im sad that Daimon and Sosei never got to meet because I’m low key shipping them. Idk if they’d click well romantically because they’re so similar, but I would’ve loved for some sort of interaction. They’d make for an epic couple, solving mysteries. I really wanna write a fic for them. 

7. Tsukasa Tsukasa - I didn’t like him because of the cheating and blaming on my poor Toma, but after that, he was okay. Plus, he helped write the Tsumugu’s love letter to Kotoko. Which I find is funny, because Kotoko copied Tsukasa’s writing, thinking it was Tsumugu’s. Ahahah. The lesson here, folks, is that don’t use your own handwriting in love letters, you never know if you’re crush will copy said handwriting into your own suicide letter. 

8. Mirei - that girl can sing. I kinda cried after hearing it cuz I was going through something at the time and it really encouraged me. 

9. Landlady & Hikkimori - Both names that I can’t remember off the top of my head. I think both people are fun. The landlady is super supportive. And the hikkimori refusing to talk with Sosei made for a fun dynamic. I genuinely enjoyed seeing Sosei offended. Nice way to see emotions on my fave character. 

10. Other characters (Rindo, Happy, Travel Club Members) - I genuinely did not care enough about ahahah. I think I even enjoyed seeing some of them murdered, tbh. They were really horrible people in different ways. 

The Black club members headed under Fumi. Like what? How do you control victims to be assailants and live with yourself to be a future kindergarten teacher? Like what? I couldn’t live with myself if I was her. Plus, her disproportionately large boobs were really weirding me out. I can’t believe Yu died all because Fumi wanted to f*ck him. It’s like one day you’re living your best life and someone thinks, ah, I wanna ruin this person. 

Don’t even get me started with Nozaki. That dude is a piece of trash. Human garbage. He knows how it feels to be a victim and yet thinks it’s his right to assault women. I wanted to slap that guy so hard. So many times. He was like the boy who cried wolf. He kept pretending to be dead and eventually died in the hands of Kotoko. XD I wonder what his last thoughts were. To have died in the hands of someone he trusted. 

Hikone was another nutcase. From what I understood, he just saw everyone else as characters in his book. Sure, he didn’t physically harm anyone, but doing nothing and observing is just as much of a crime as committing it. 

Shun. I never really like cutesy guys. But when he turned out to be an ex-pimp plus lover of Fumi, he fell off the likeable scale. 

Yoshimoto being an uncontrollable drunk murderer was the only thing needed to complete the psycho Travel Club members. Tbh, I thought he was the one behind the killings at first ahaha. 

Suguha. I thought she was a tough chick. It was cool to know that she had another motive to get closer to Fumi. Because I thought it was weird how she took her cellphone at the BBQ restaurant. It’s nice to know that SEEC still foreshadows like that.

Ahhh yaknow what you’re right. I just went back and looked over some of the rod, and I didn’t see Langa explicitly agree to not to skate with Adam. He promised that he wouldn’t quit skating with Reki, but he only acknowledged Reki’s warning to not be reckless. It actually makes a bunch of sense why Langa would be confused by the distancing and argument. I see now why you were upset with Reki’s behavior. It feels kind of like a ‘secret contract’ sorta thing where Reki got upset over a broken rule Langa never realized he was supposed to abide by. And not only is that unfair like you said, but it flipped the situation as if Langa was being untrustworthy to his word when really Reki didn’t trust Langa not to quit skating with him just because of danger/injury. And especially since I’ve seen people make solid arguments for Langa being neurodivergent or neurodivergent-coded, it’s really not a stretch at all for him to see the situation like you did. Langa most likely saw the issue as solely reckless behavior leading to quitting. But clearly Reki’s own jealousy/insecurities added Langa preferring better skaters as potentially leading to them not skating together without ever discussing it until Langa was blindsided during the argument. I would’ve looked a better apology from Reki where he fully explained why he was upset when they were making up. It’s human for his feelings on the issue to change, but that should’ve been better expressed to Langa. Although Langa did a great job of accurately smoothing over what was bothering Reki without that. Maybe that’ll be rectified if he apologizes to Miya. I think Miya deserves one especially since Reki physically shoved him after he opened up about why his actions were such a sore spot for him. I actually thought Miya’s words would help Reki see the other side of things so seeing Miya get pushed was like a “Bro wtf??” moment for me. Again it’s understandable that people act out when they’re angry and Reki was obviously already struggling with his emotions, but it should be acknowledged again how wrong that was. Boy are you opening my eyes to a lot of problematic stuff lol.

Also, I’m very curious as to why you hate Shadow. For me, it’s because I can’t move past that comment in ep 1. I know ppl brush it off as just an (unnecessarily misogynistic) act for his persona, but that woman literally didn’t say anything to him and he insulted her for no reason by using her body as trophy to be defaced if he won. Ew. And just because he’s super nice to the flower shop lady, he does not get a pass. If he’s only respectful to women he’s attracted to and jumps at any other the opportunity to degrade women, he’s still a misogynist. And I’m pretty sure that he already new flower shop lady when the series started, so I don’t think you can argue that his character developed to be better towards women as a whole because of her or that he wouldn’t do something like that again at this point in the story. Especially since the goal of proving yourself as a “strong man” has not historically worked out to men being compassionate with women. (Tho within a vacuum devoid of his other actions, I can appreciate his commitment to a makeup routine)

Oh! And I would totally wanna read that fanfic if you write it!! I’m not even as gung-ho about Adam going to jail as most fans and Adam-haters tbh. Mainly because it’d probably be for political corruption via money bribes which is already kinda common and I don’t think the show has stated him to be doing anything particularly bad with it I don’t think so?? Like it seems to be mainly for the purpose of keeping S secret which is indeed a waste of money and effort when he could just buy it, but on the other hand, there doesn’t seem to be any ill consequences on the citizens the politician represents. So yea, it’s illegal so the jail time is technically deserved. But also like... no harm no foul🤷‍♀️ If he would be getting charged for assaulting other skaters than I definitely think that’s fair, but I doubt that’ll happen in the show just because I feel like no one will actually say anything when the time comes partially due to the shock of his arrest if they’re even involved. And I mean, Cherry was pissed at Adam for getting skaters hurt but still rolled out the hospital and joked like he was fine, so I just don’t particularly see anyone calling him out on it to the point of it being apart of his sentencing. The end of ep 11 with Cherry and Joe arguing about one of them going against Adam just doesn’t sound like condemning him to battery charges to me XD

But yaknow I’ve been loving hurt/comfort type fics lately, so I’d be really interested in seeing Adam truly work and change himself for some type of redemption in that setting. I can see hitting rock bottom as being really good for him given it may provide a reprieve from having to manage his image. Adam is underrated in complexity so it’s always cool when people try to flesh him out more and dive into his inner world. And of course Tadashi is kind of my fave (if you couldn’t tell) so I love anything healing for him as well :)

Yep, I was majorly pissed at Reki for how he treated Langa and Miya. His behavior is absolutely problematic. Not as bad as Adam, obviously, but with everything I’ve said and you’ve realized... yeah. I’m glad he made up with Langa and will probably make up with Miya, but it doesn’t invalidate everything he’s done before. Yes, he’s still an immature teenager, but I don’t think he realizes how messed up his behavior was, even after making up with Langa (the resolution seems to be based on him accepting that he’s not an ace skater, rather than recognizing how toxic his behavior was), so I’m still not satisfied. But hey, it’s probably just me being hyperfixated on trivial details that nobody else even cares about. /shrug

(I’m glad to know that I wasn’t misinterpreting the “promise,” or lack thereof, though!)

And I have two major problems with Shadow. My first--and biggest--problem is, as you’ve pointed out, that he’s an enormous misogynist. At “S,” people have the freedom to be exactly who they are beneath the facades that they show to the world. For example, Adam is someone desperately searching for someone who can understand him, not the perfectly put-together politician Shindo Ainosuke. Cherry and Joe are more true to their “real life” selves, but there are differences in their behavior on the track and off. And then there’s Shadow, the overcompensating “strong man” who threatens to make a guy tattoo “Dumpster Slut” over his girl’s name. So I 100% agree with everything you said about Shadow. He’s a chauvinistic pig.

The second problem is that I honestly think his actions when he’s racing are worse than Adam’s, and the only reason it’s not made out as such is because he’s the buttmonkey rather than the villain. I believe that, as problematic as Adam’s antics are, he does not intend to cause severe physical harm to his opponents. I’ve discussed this idea in more detail in other posts, but in short, even in the most extreme case--Cherry’s--his injuries were far lighter than they would have been if Adam had seriously wanted to hurt him. Death, coma, etc. were all highly probable outcomes of that situation, so the only reason they didn’t happen was because Adam was holding back. Or anime logic. But even anime logic can only stretch so far. And against lesser opponents like Reki, he generally holds onto them to ensure that they don’t accidentally hurt themselves when they’re panicking.

Of course, Shadow doesn’t intend to cause severe physical harm to his opponents either, but he does not exert any control over the situation after he throws fireworks at his opponent or shines a laser in their eyes. We’ve twice seen his opponents fall off the course as a direct result of his actions: Reki in the first race, Harry in the quarterfinals. They could have just as easily fallen off the cliff or slammed into a wall (at full speed) and been badly injured. If Shadow were an actual villain, I fully believe that he would have an actual body count of people who died racing against him (as opposed to Adam’s trail of injured opponents). So it bothers me that people shrug off what Shadow does while screaming for Adam’s death.

As for the scandal subplot... I’m *pretty* sure it’s a lot more serious than Adam bribing the police to leave “S” alone. I think he’s actually involved in some majorly shady/illegal activities politically. Like, in Episode 7, when the other Diet member gets pulled over, arrested, and has his house searched... there’s no way that has anything to do with “S.” At the very least, the two of them were collaborating on something really bad, something serious that Adam lied about under oath, and that’s enough for Adam’s staff to worry about what’s going to happen, especially Tadashi. We don’t know what it is specifically, but it’s definitely a lot more than just passing out bribes to hide “S.”

Lol, I’ll have to see how it goes. Probably won’t start it until after the anime finishes at the very least so I can see how it turns out for Adam and Tadashi, plus I have another half dozen WIPs at the moment and nowhere near enough time to work on them all. xD

 Edward knows he technically shouldn’t, but he’s bored at work and for once, the kids are actually quietly doing their own thing. There hadn’t really been any ongoing chats at the moment, so he’s pleasantly surprised and looking forward to hearing from his friends.

 He’s only a little disappointed when he sees that it’s not from any of his friends, but instead from a guy he’d met just last Friday in the most strangest of ways. (His friend had hosted a garage sale and had asked for help. Edward had gone. He’d brought along some of his own stuff. This one man – Charles – had bought his old wooden shoe rack. Charles had chatted Edward up. They’d exchanged contact information and had more or less chatted since then. It was a strange way to meet someone – but, not the strangest.)

 Charles is – cute and they had a pleasant chat. Edward certainly hadn’t minded the attention, even if it had come from out of nowhere. He’d been looking forward to meeting up with him again, but as the days had gone on and their conversations had progressed, he’d found himself slowly losing a bit of interest over Charles’ over-eagerness.

 There were just so many times Charles could say he thought Edward was attractive in an hour before it got redundant and annoying.

 Edward was flattered Charles was interested in him, but Edward didn’t want to rush this either. He’d just gotten out of a serious relationship and with the end of the school year looming close, he had other things to deal with. Once summer break arrived, he would have more time and more energy. In the meantime, however, he didn’t need this stranger he barely knew to wax poetics and tell him he wished to wake up beside him to see how he woke up – or whatever garbage he’d been told. Edward was willing to give this a go, but he wasn’t looking to settle down and get married with Charles after knowing him for three days and it quite honestly felt as though Charles had already booked their venue at times.

 He was – over the top and intense. Edward had appreciated the fact that Charles had told him he’d found him attractive when he’d first seen him and he liked that he had actually returned to chat him up. It had been a little weird when Charles had called him his beloved and stranger still when he’d apologised from taking up his time and keeping him away from his friends when they’d talked that first time, but Edward had let it slide and had almost found it charming – in its own bizarre way.

 Now, it feels as though Charles is trying too hard, when really he doesn’t have to. Edward thought he was attractive, had even told him so and was more than willing to see where this would lead. but if However, if Charles doesn’t slow down, Edward will back out and move on. (Which reminds him – there’d been that whole other conversation where Charles had told him that he looked forward to living their lives together and that he didn’t want to lose him. To which Edward had politely told him that it would be best to get to know each other first.)

 Edward wants some fun – not some intense long-term lovey-dovey besotted nonsense. At least – not after three days of talking with the man.

 Still, he opens the conversation, curiosity, and boredom getting the best of him, and at first, it’s nice, until Charles asks him if he could have a photo. Edward lets out a long-suffering sigh and is glad his students are too busy with their work to notice.

 Charles has asked to send him a photo right now, of all things.

 Edward is so not in the mood for any of this.

 “No. I’m in class teaching. My students are taking a test.” He writes out. He doesn’t care if he comes across as annoyed, but this man is being irksome in his own infatuated way and it’s – pathetic. He likes the attention, to a degree, he enjoys feeling wanted, but Charles needs to calm down his ardours.

 He leaves it at that and doesn’t bother with Charles for the rest of the day.

 By the time Edward’s done, he heads to his car and figures he’ll check again to see if he’s gotten a new message. There is still part of him that is curious about this whole ordeal and so he’s a little bit pleased when he sees that Charles has sent him a few messages after their last chat.

 He’s less enthused when he gets to the last one.

 The first was in regards to the whole photo debacle, saying maybe next time. The second mentioned that he was going for a jog. And the last message – the kicker really, was a photo Charles had sent of himself, shirtless and thankfully from the waist up.

 And to think Edward had nearly sent him a post-work exhausted face selfie for the fun of it.

 He grumbles, puts his phone away, and figures he’ll deal with it when he gets home.

 It’s not that he necessarily minded the photo – he did find the guy attractive to a point, but – it had been unprompted. Unsolicited. He hadn’t asked for a photo. He hadn’t been expecting a shirtless photo. He wasn’t in the current mood to receive such a photo. He could have been at school on break and gotten this photo.

 He’s angry and annoyed by the time he gets home.

 Edward putters around and leaves Charles on read. It’s one thing going after sex and expecting these photos and it’s another to get them out of the blues. He lets his friends know of this debacle and relishes in their reactions. He’s glad someone gets it.

 Finally, after making dinner, playing a few rounds of video games, taking a shower, getting his lunch ready for the following day, and having a nice chat with his friends, he decides to answer Charles.

 “Even if a photo of a woman, man, or person shirtless may be nice to receive, it’s always better to send it with consent and with fair warning. Especially when you’re not expecting one and that with my work, there are often children nearby.”

 He doesn’t expect an answer so quickly, especially since it’s been five hours since the photo was sent, but Charles, true to form, answers. Edward laughs out loud when he reads how very sorry Charles is and how he genuinely thought Edward would appreciate it. Edward sighs again and groans, passing a hand through his hair.

 He tries to find a polite way of trying to get this man to understand and he’s only a little surprised by how easily the words come to him, “There’s a time and place for everything. You don’t send these types of photos willy-nilly whenever you feel like it. There’s context, time, mood, etc. Consent and fair-warning. Imagine you were sitting with your family, friends, or kids and you received such a photo without warning. You can’t assume that the person on the other side is in an appropriate setting to receive these types of messages and images without checking beforehand.”

 It’s at times like these he wishes men could be less – like this. He likes a good shirtless photo just like anyone else who’s into men, but he hates that this seems to be a norm. And at least this was only a shirtless photo! He doesn’t want to think of the number of times when he was having a nice conversation about literally anything unrelated to the human body, only to find himself with a photo of a man’s junk, completely unprompted.

 Sometimes, he almost wishes he were into women just to be spared this.

 Edward figures he’s given Charles enough etiquette lessons for the night and puts his phone away. He pulls up something decent to watch on television and does his best to forget about the incident for now. If anything, he reminds himself, he doesn’t need to commit to anything with this besotted Romeo.

I find your Edward really interesting in ways you seem to characterize him… I always find it fun seeing the other ways people make their Edwards- Your the blog that has actually gotten me to develop my own Edward further, and think about his childhood more. Ahh, side tangent! But I just find him fun. Also, the way you draw him is REALLY good, love the design! ❤️ (also your welcome, love your blog and love to see riddler rp blogs- and I’ve been mostly reading a lot of stuff from your blogs.)

Is there perhaps a favorite riddle of his? Or is he all across the board with his puzzles? How does he come up with his puzzles? Do they suddenly come up, or thought through before hand?

Is there a favorite universe you like to roleplay with Edward in that you rarely rp in? If so, which?

What is his relationship with other rouges? I notice a lot of content with him and the Sirens, so I’m curious to know what his relationship with the Sirens are… (Inclusion of the Gardener, because she def deserves to be in there- I think)

Thank you very much, about everything! It makes me happy that people read that stuff! I tend to write a lot because I just have too much on my mind. xD Now, as for a favorite riddle? I sweeear I’ve thought of one before. But right now? Nothing is particularly coming to mind. But ironically, despite writing as Eddie, I... am terrible with riddles! As for thinking of puzzles - it... just depends. Some do just pop in his mind from sudden inspiration. But many are usually well-thought-out. He tends to search for things for inspiration; many of his puzzles involves cultures from all around the world. Typically, he goes for symbolism in his puzzles. Something symbolic like let’s saaay... he sets a puzzle up in a slaughterhouse, because he’s the slaughterer and vigilantes like Batman should be slaughtered like pigs.

As for universe? Nooot that I can think of? My own Ed is an original interpretation - which means I don’t really write him as his Animated Series depiction, or his Nu52 or anything like that. He’s just another Riddler. haha! Though, I do tend to take a lot of inspiration for characterization from the Arkham verse, and the Animated Series. Since those two are my favorite Canon Eddies. The only thing I wish I could RP is uhh... I feel there are still a lot of DC characters I haven’t quite gotten the chance to write with. (Haven’t really written with a Batman, yet! Even though I’ve been writing Ed for nearly a year now, and that dynamic is pretty important!) And I definitely wouldn’t mind writing with more Marvel characters, since I enjoy Marvel a lot. (More than DC, if not for Batman.) And it could work! I wouldn’t even have to make up a Marvel AU or anything. ‘cos there used to be Marvel and DC crossovers back in the 90s! So, I like to think they can exist in the same universe.

And honestly, his relationships with the rogues tend to vary depending on whom I’m RPing with! Just ‘cos, many ppl tend to write the characters differently than others do. Therefore, Ed can be friendly with some, but hate others. Though, in general - I like to think my Ed is friendly with many of the rogues, and even sees them as “friends” in a fucked up way. (Since he IS willing to manipulate them if it means furthering his own goals.) And even if he doesn’t always see eye to eye with them, either. He still views them as friends. Buuuut... not all of them. There are some rogues my Ed will often dislike, those being: Black Mask, Falcone, Zsasz, Hugo, Joker, Bookworm, King Tut. Black Mask & others like him just because Ed has a... distaste for mob bosses. Like ones that are legit mob bosses. Because mobs, in Eddie’s opinion, might as well just be more corrupt billionaires. They kill innocents for profits, and some mafias even deal with trafficking. So... Yeah. They’re icky to Eddie, and doesn’t align with his own set of morals. Ed doesn’t like Zsasz or Joker because he feels they both just kill kill kill for no good reason. And killing just innocents at that. Eddie, really does, enjoy killing, too. But he only targets specific people who he believes should die. Eddie doesn’t like King Tut because he feels they’re plagiarizing his style. Eddie HATES copycats.

I honestly really enjoyed Ed’s friendship with the Sirens in the comics. Therefore, I do love writing them as friends, or at least friendly toward each other. But as said, this could always change depending on whom I’m writing with. And I really miss Ed & Harley’s relationship in the comics. It had a lot of potential. But alas, now for some reason they always got to be at each other's throats. It sucks. In my own canon, which I have a fancomic in mind that I’ll probs never do but - Harley actually helps teach a reformed Eddie how to fight.

AS FOR THE GARDENER. Not gonna lie, I don’t really know much about her character. I don’t really know much regarding any of the new characters, that includes Miracle Molly. Or much of what’s even going on in the comics currently other than what I hear on my dashboard. I just kinda gave up on reading most of the newer comics, especially since the Nu52. Just because all comics I’ve read that involved Eddie in those... I didn’t enjoy. The ones I haven’t read but heard too much about (like the War of Jokes and Riddles) are REALLY BAD. I feel like they’ve really butchered his character now. The only comics I have enjoyed since Nu52 is Zero Year (and even that has its flaws) and Solitaire. (And ironically, that’s actually one of my, if not my favorite Riddler comic.) There’s one from Black & White I thought was okay and enjoyable enough. Still had the issue of Eddie potentially harming children. But at least it’s kind of played off as a joke in it (because they were orphans. The joke was if something happened to them, then Batman will have no more resources for Robin. Kind of dark humor there, but it did make me laugh. xD). But that’s really all I’ve enjoyed. So... I just don’t really bother with the new comics anymore because I got tired of ‘em, and how they do portray Riddler (and really, other characters) in them.
