Demonstration march, London, United Kingdom. April 22, 2017. Archive Photo: ©Edmond Terakopian “Joe Biden has become the first US president declare formal recognition of the Armenian genocide, more than a century after the mass killings by Ottoman troops and opening a rift between the new US administration and Ankara. “The American people honour all those Armenians who perished in the genocide that began 106 years ago today,” Biden said in a statement on Saturday.” I’m so emotional right now, having got this wonderful news. Over a century of denial by the perpetrators of a genocide that killed 1.5 million Armenians and deported many more on a march across the desert, in the hope of killing them all. A perpetrator of a mass action of ethnic cleansing that later was applauded and repeated by Hitler when he said “after all, who remembers the Armenians?”, who then went onto to commit his own Genocide of the Jews. If countries are not held accountable, they will keep repeating such barbaric actions. Last year’s was during the pandemic on Arstakh and Armenia by the modem day Ottomans of Azerbaijan and Turkey is proof positive. Thank you so much @joebiden for your courage and honesty. Wreath laying ceremony and prayer service in memory of the 1.5 million Armenians killed in a Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire, which started on April 24th, 1915. This year, U.S. President Joe Biden, is expected (on Saturday, April 24th) to formally recognise that the 1.5 million Armenians killed during the atrocities which began on April 24, 1915, was an act of Genocide. This systematic ethnic cleansing also resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Assyrians, Greeks, and other minorities living in the Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey. For decades, U.S. presidents have refrained from calling it a Genocide, impeded by concerns about relations with Turkey and intense lobbying by Ankara. 30 countries around the world have recognised the atrocities, however the UK remains a denier of the well documented Genocide, which Hitler later based his Holocaust on.
